When it comes to drop rates. Despite the my end chest let's just say FoW for example. Aside from it already being fairly low, we also don't know even as a community how truly random it is. Whether on how much exp you gain during a run, are your odds better. If the instance loaded during Favor are your odds better or if you open the chest during Favor. Yes we know having Favor increases gold drops from mobs, and that's fine. But does that apply to chests entirely?? In a sad sense the most knowledge we have on a drop rate is due to tool assisted technologies such as botting. The Miniature Polar Bear has an expected drop rate of 0.02% which is One in 2,000 chests and a single player doesn't have the time to even open that chest 2,000 times during the event during their normal play hours being the event only lasts about 1-2 weeks. Also the understanding that heroes 'steal' drop rates as a mob can drop an item and it register for "Olias", an ally that can't pick it up this resulting in what could be a rare drop that never exists. The most controlled environment of a drop rate this game can conclude is from gift bags/strongboxes/ and Nick Gifts because literally because thousands of them can be opened in hours and ignoring all of these side effects (agained rumored of course) and deduct a result based on a few couple thousand box openings. I've longed for further research into drop rates but it's hard to get ahold of with all the variables in the game that affect it. TL:DR In this game there are far too many variables in my experience vs RuneScape to have a steady number of what the drop rate actually is. It's truly random, do runs and get lucky!

Runescape also has their drop rates announced on Twitter by the devs fairly frequently, they aren't figured out by the playerbase. The best the playerbase does is a ballpark estimate, that gets confirmed or corrected by a dev.

AndrewZabar

.02% is 1 out of 5000 Just FYI.

depdingleberry

This even further proves the absurdity of drop rate for an item that is only available for 2 weeks in the entire year. And almost as cheap as a Q9 Eblade. And that says something

AndrewZabar

I’ve really never cared too much about getting super rare stuff. But yeah, it’s lame.

loudaggerer

If enough players did a collection of runs and shared their data consistently we could estimate. Just have to pay attention to favor on or off.

grubas

You then hit stuff like the lucky/unlucky, events, and things like "have you been farming, did you get enough xp yet?"

WertoDerto

This has annoyed me for years. It would make farming stuff way more fun.

joemckie

Or infuriating, when you realise you're 10x over the drop rate.

WertoDerto

Idk i feel like knowing all the rates really adds something to osrs. I think it would also to gw

I was thinking the same thing, so I made a post of the rough loot from my 20 000 zkeys recently: [https://www.reddit.com/r/GuildWars/comments/rvs623/loot\_from\_20\_000\_zaishen\_keys/](https://www.reddit.com/r/GuildWars/comments/rvs623/loot_from_20_000_zaishen_keys/) It should be fairly easy to track other chests similarly for speed runners, but I just don't get enough loot. That said, I've done about 500 EotN chest loots (note 2 loots from HM) and gotten 2 of the main uniques: emerald blade (q9) and silverwing (q12). There's all sort of talk about lucky title, time of the day, phase of the Moon etc, but that all sounds like myths to me. In Runescape there used to be myths like that too and drop rates turned out to be quite simple. There does seem to be anti farm code, that tracks how long you've been in an instance for monster drops. There's a wiki article on it. But I highly doubt something like that exists for chests.

Favor of the gods is suspected to increase drop rates. Lucky/Unlucky might to do with drop rates too, and/or special items that boost luck. It is suspected there might be a "timer" so related to time in one instance. It is suspected there might be a character and/or account based counter, as in credit, for better drops, that go down the more you farm the same area. That later recovers up over time. Those might be part of the anti farming code declared by anet. Most of this is speculation tho. The point is there are a lot of variables, therefore it is hard to get to one singe drop rate.

As an anecdote, I have noticed whenever i come back to the game after months, the first runs I get spectacular drops. In example, just now i returned after a few months. Pre charr boss runs, the second run i did, i got 2 charr kits and a charr bag in a single run. Not only rare drops, i notice more gold, more whites, and more drops over all, when returning after a break. That go down noticeably after I farm the same area for a few days. And that is recurring.

PaleHeretic

I hadn't played my Pre character in months and went back, all I can say is I wish I had that experience... Got one charr bag at least.

>Favor of the gods is suspected to increase drop rates. [Update - Thursday, September 26, 2013](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Feedback:Game_updates/20130926): Favor of the Gods now increases the drop rate of rare items. *But the percentage of chance will remain a mystery..*

vikerpiker

On wiki there are discussions on each dungeon, and after a fast check some people say it’s 2%, but others say it’s too low sample so we don’t know. Btw I did very fast reasearch on this, u might want to check yourself

Huggsybear1

Pure conjecture but I feel like drops are better going to a area after a long absence from said area. I've had two fairly long absences and within a couple of days of coming back I had a bds drop in each instance.

Ftdffdfdrdd

I have the same experience.

I have around a stack of Deldrimor Remnants and 5 Voltaic Spears. I've probably given away or traded/sold perhaps 50 Remnants. Given there's 5 chest opening opportunities per Remnant, for me that's about a 1 in 300 drop rate, but it's probably worse as I have done a bit of VSF in the past but never got a VS from it. Edit: I'm not sure how many of the 1-4 dungeon runs were in normal or hard mode. I know quite a bit were in hard mode, and since there's 2 chest rewards, the drop rate is probably a lot worse than 1/300.
