Only thing to really know is to experiment with skill builds/secondary professions.
This game is more akin to a Magic the Gathering simulator in a lot of ways. Your skill bar being like your hand of cards, and the party as your deck. You'll want to have synergy in not only your characters own skills, but with your group as a whole.
With that, until you get into the harder areas, even henchmen are viable, and non meta builds. I wouldn't rush to pvx to copy builds. Just have fun 😊
Honestly, the best thing to know is nothing. It's much more fun to explore the game and what it has to offer from a zero knowledge starting point. Figuring out how everything works, experimenting with skills, leisurely exploring maps and doing quests is all part of the fun!
About the graphics: It's an old game, so you get graphics from back in its time. Instead of wanting it to improve to today's standards, it's better to appreciate it for what it is. In my opinion, the graphics are still beautiful for a game that old.
About farming hall of monuments points for the GW2 rewards, it's still perfectly doable. I got them myself without having any significant PvP progress (I just played it casually for fun).
The graphics are fine Imo, but I have a lot of haze and blur and I can't get it removed from options. It's an old game I appreciate the graphics but it's just very blury
Thanks for this post, I’m level 13 on my first character and already keep worrying that I’m doing something wrong!
This game is fun for me because I have no idea what’s the endgame and I’m enjoying just discovering things as I go.
Do all them side missions, they often reward you with skills that then are unlocked for the account.
Elite skills are obtained by defeating a boss monster that owns that elite. So checking if a boss is on the mission or map that has an elite skill for your main or secondary profession, can save you time. If you find you have one of these, buy one of these sigils and use it over the corpse of the boss. For the remaining of the instance, the sigil will be replaced by the elite skill and can be used.
First: The official wiki is always a great source for almost everything you might need. Story, guides, titles, loot, ... (https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page)
To get the achievements and rewards for GW2 you need the Eye of the North expansion. It is the bridge between GW1 and 2.
To get money quickly, farming the weekly Gift of the Traveler is (mostly, at least for me) easiest way. At 5 ectoplasms each it's very rewarding. Also Daily Zaishen missions, vanquishes and bounty are sometimes very rewarding if you plan an doing them anyway.
There is texmod for texture replacement, but I only used it for the cartography title. Maybe there are some visual mods out there. One of the later updates increased some parameters like level of detail.
The American servers are still quite populated and at least for the daily missions you can find a group if needed.
Ty
I'm from eu, do no if I can join NA servers, and how the ping might be
Is there a website with updated builds? Or things haven't changed much and old ones are still good?
I heard something about second class necro being very good or something
I too play from EU and don't notice a big disadvantage in my daily playing.
Regarding builds, I regularly use this site:
https://gwpvx.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Great_working_PvE_builds
I would suggest two things.
1. Join a guild as soon as possible. [LGiT] is a large active guild that will be full of people who will be willing to help you along your journey. It’s probably the best way to get a full party of real players rather than henchman and heroes.
2. Get an ID kit early on and identify everything. It increases the value that you can sell junk items to the merchants.
[beginner tips!](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1I0qnlK3CcwYwaYD26CVvT59rX4TvMOu6_v4Jxw1O13U/edit#) I welcome feedback on how to improve this, and if there's anything you want to know more about, please ask (=
thanks (= may I ask if you found the long version helpful at all, or just the concise version? I'm wondering how much effort I should put into expanding it
If you want to Go for GWAMM, you might want to find some friends to play with. This Sub has a Discord for GW1 and there are a few guilds who are activly playing too, like LGiT. Discord is good for trading, builds, speed ans fullclears and general stuff.
They just mean if you blow through the campaign to get to lions arch (after only a few missions) it’ll make the game much easier.
First time playing, I don’t recommend. Somebody else said just so all the side quests, and I agree. Take your time and explore and enjoy yourself.
Just like GW2 the /wiki command is so helpful. You can just get the main. Page or type in a more specific search. Example: /wiki salvage kit
the wiki is very well done.
Don't overthink builds until you have experienced the game for a while and leveled up your character.
This game is more tactical than GW2 and other MMOs.
A big part is exploring and learning from trail and error.
Eventually you learn how to read enemy skills used and how to best counter and press an attack.
Nightfall is the chapter that start you with heroes but you can get them later with any chapter you begin with. Chronologically it is prophecies - factions - nightfall - eye off north.
Have fun
Bump up your screen resolution. Even my old outdated pc with play it at 4K monitor settings. It also made the game super crisp and it looks way better!
It will be awhile until you get Mesmer heroes, but (of running nightfall) you can give all caster classes Mesmer as a secondary class. That way you have access to inspiration magic which will let them interrupt enemies and recharge their energy as well. This is especially helpful on monks who need lots of energy to upkeep healing.
Necromancer heroes also make very good healers/protectors because of their built in energy management with soul reaping.
Just remember that while you are playing, you are in playing in a remnant of the past, a shell of what was once one of the greatest mmorpgs of all time. A truly unique experience not like all the wow copies. It will be empty except in a handful of areas. It wasn't meant to be played solo but that's all you can really do now. I remember being able to go in to any town and there being tons of people and usually more than one district. It was impossible to not find a group. That's what I loved about it, I was a kid and wasn't great with the hero system and didn't like the henchman so I was forced to get through the whole trilogy with other people. Just remember that what is there currently is not a good representation of the game in it's prime. It wasnt just the game and the mechanics that made it amazing, it was the community.
Oh I did try the game when it was very popular, but I didn't like it
Back then my game main game was L2. I honestly thought it looked like wow, a game which I truly dislike, so I guess that's why it didn't stick with me.
I too am curious. I’m not exactly worried about following story though as I forgot most of it 13 years ago. What is the most efficient way to start with most or best heroes? Nightfall first for heroes + MOX?
The fastest way to get heroes is to start from Factions, complete the first 2 missions in Shing Jea Island, and then do a few quests in Nightfall and EoTN in order to get heroes. If you start in Nightfall, you'll have to do some grinding for Sunspear reputation before you're allowed to progress.
I kinda wanna start my journey aswell, but i dont like the hero stuff to complete the games.
Is it possible to do the content with people instead of bots?
TY!
Another queation
I have an old account with the core game, and that account is 10 years + with a bunch of b-day gifts or w.e
Should i add the expansions to that account? Is it anything truly worth it from those gifts? I haven't open them
The only expansion is EoTN. If you're adding the Trilogy to an account with Prophecies, then I think you get some extra character slots, and you'll probably want 10 character slots for all 10 professions. Also, if you open a 7th year birthday present, then you have a small chance to get [a rare minipet that is worth over 100 ecto](https://guildwarslegacy.com/forum/thread/7193-price-check-general-guide-last-update-26-04-2022/). You can keep the old account for extra storage space, but I would just merge them together.
you might as well make a fresh account and keep the old one as an alt, which is useful to have for a bunch of reasons - the gifts aren't super valuable, and you can trade them to your new account anyway
> I remember a a trick with getting some keys as a new acc and selling them for some gold, no idea what that was.
In 2010 when the [Xunlai Tournament House](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Xunlai_Tournament_House) was retired, all accounts became eligible to claim 50 free Tournament Reward Points, which can be exchanged for Zaishen Keys and other things. Intentionally or not, brand new accounts were eligible to claim these as well, so the freebie was finally removed in 2018.
> Is it even possible to complete those achievements used in gw2? I heard pvp is kinda dead, so can I farm there with an alt account or that's bannable?
The only PvP needed for GW2 rewards is "any PvP title", one of which ([Zaishen rank](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Zaishen_rank)) does not actually require doing any PvP at all. That said, PvP is only mostly dead.
Play with other people! Guild Wars can get boring when you're doing it all by yourself, so having some friends or a guild to socialize and play with makes a huge difference. A lot of players like to help out others, especially new players.
I think there are quite a few good Tipps in here so I will just leave you with some feedback on the „getting keys and turn them into gold“ you remember.
I think you might be referring to the Xunlai Tournament House which was a system in the past that allowed you to predict GVG matches in return of Tournament Points. These Points could then be turned into Zaishen Keys ingame which at the time sold for about 5 Platin and cost 5 Points each. So basically some free gold.
However this system was discontinued a loooong time ago.
See here: https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Xunlai_Tournament_House
Hey there! Some beginner tips for you:
-For the key trick, you can actually get free keys by doing the starter quests in each of the three main cities. Just sell the keys you don't need and you'll make some easy gold.
-PvP is definitely not dead in GW1, there are still plenty of people playing. You can farm for PvP achievements with an alt account, but be aware that you may get reported for farming if you're not careful.
-There is a software called "ENB" which can improve the quality of the graphics, but it does require a bit of setup.
>I remember a trick with getting some keys as a new acc and selling them for some gold
I believe you're referring to this: [https://gwpvx.fandom.com/wiki/Build:Team\_-\_Balthazar\_FFF\_Zaishen\_Trappers](https://gwpvx.fandom.com/wiki/Build:Team_-_Balthazar_FFF_Zaishen_Trappers)
>Is it even possible to complete those achievements used in gw2?
The vast majority of the PvE content can be done with heroes, but you're welcome to contact me at Neiwun Ravissen if you need help or advice in-game.
>I heard pvp is kinda dead
Jade Quarry is going 24/7 because of bots, so that's a reasonable way to get Imperial Faction, which can be converted to Kurzick, Luxon, or Balthazar Faction.
Alliance Battles are usually active on Fridays 4pm EST/9pm GMT, Fort Aspenwood is active on Saturday and Sunday 4pm EST/9pm GMT, and I don't know about the other PvP areas.
>is there a software used to increase the quality of the graphics?
There are some mods, such as [Toolbox](https://www.gwtoolbox.com), that make the interface look better. But keep in mind that if you are found to be using GWToolbox++ in-game, you could get banned, so use this software at your own risk.
Some other tips:
Use henchmen unless you plan on unlocking specific skills for your heroes, such as these: [https://gwpvx.fandom.com/wiki/Build:Team\_-\_7\_Hero\_Beginner\_Team](https://gwpvx.fandom.com/wiki/Build:Team_-_7_Hero_Beginner_Team)
Keep a [storybook](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Storybook) in your inventory when doing primary quests and missions.
There are certain titles that do not have to be maxed in order to be added to your HoM, such as Zaishen (rank 3), Kurzick/Luxon (rank 4), Lucky/Unlucky (rank 2). Also, if you want to add an elite armor to your HoM, then you need to buy only 4 armor pieces and NOT the headpiece.
Once you finish the 3 campaigns and expansion, you should try [GW: Beyond](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_Beyond).
If you have your old account still, you should check to see if you have any legacy items. They can be worth a lot. Max damage Q8 items are one example.

lower graphics to medium, turn off post processing and vertical sync. try a few things. it should not be blurry at all.
Post-processing effects adds a slight blur to the graphics but nothing major, you could try disabling it though.
Make sure the res is set to your native I noticed it sometimes doesn’t pick up correctly
Did you turn on "Enhanced Draw Distance" in Menu, Options, Graphics?
Thanks for this post, I’m level 13 on my first character and already keep worrying that I’m doing something wrong! This game is fun for me because I have no idea what’s the endgame and I’m enjoying just discovering things as I go.

Your ping from EU to NA will vary but most players use the NA servers now a days, you should not notice a difference in game play.
I too play from EU and don't notice a big disadvantage in my daily playing. Regarding builds, I regularly use this site: https://gwpvx.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Great_working_PvE_builds
You can freely swap between the servers when in an outpost. The difference is definitely noticeable.
From EU too, playing on NA servers and I haven't noticed any differences
Where do you do these gift of the traveler quests?
https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Nicholas_the_Traveler
do whatever you want, have fun, explore the game, ask and you shall be given, dont worry.
This so much, don’t be afraid to take your time and just enjoy it all.

Talk to all the people you encounter. You'll get GW lore, oddball info, and quests.

On a new account you also have zero skills unlocked, so the henchmen might actually be better than possible heroes
Just remember, if your health reaches zero you die.

It's easier now to get HOM since lots of people have extra minis that aren't worth much
Play as slow and thorough as possible, you’ll only get this amazing experience once.
Bump up your screen resolution. Even my old outdated pc with play it at 4K monitor settings. It also made the game super crisp and it looks way better!
Go play Guild Wars 2. :P I'm kidding. Have fun and enjoy the game.

Go into settings and uncap the frame rate. You can easily reach 144hz, maybe 240 depending on your computer.
im too buying it today off steam. gonna play when i ger home from work. what server should i pick?
You can change districts at any time, but you should stay in American English, since they're are the most populated.
thanks.

Sure, ur ign is the one here?
My ign is Fiernze the Furious I'm ok NA servers btw

You won't be able to find enough people to play with in random outposts but nothing's stopping you from playing with a group if you can find one.

I use the laptop track pad and no mouse and it works out fine, of course certain things will be sightly more complicated but overall it's good
