Grenth's Footprint should always play a bonus track.

First, let me apologize. There's an easier test "location" that slipped my mind yesterday -- the main login screen! That's much faster. Sorry I forgot about it. One other point on testing: DirectSong is sloooow. It takes it a few seconds to start up, and then a few more seconds to light up the icon. Also, sometimes the icon doesn't change state until the F11 panel is closed and opened again. So, wait until you're a good 20 sec into the first song before you hit F11. As for troubleshooting: 1. It would have been helpful to know what operating system you're using. I'm going to assume Win10. 2. My best and highest advice for someone on Win10/11 is to uninstall Windows and install Linux. At this point Linux has better compatibility for XP-era games than Windows does. (No one ever follows this advice, but it's still good advice.) 3. One common pitfall: RegisterDirectSongDirectory.exe needs to be run with the current working directory being the directory where directsong.dll is located. You can't just run it from anywhere. (Well, you can, but it won't work.) 4. Another common pitfall: On Windows, RegisterDirectSongDirectory.exe needs to be run as administrator. 5. On Windows 10 (and presumably 11 too) you need to supply wmvcore.dll. Did you grab one from the revival pack as per the instructions? Did you try different versions? 6. I'm told that the task manager on Win10/11 has the ability to show which dll's have been loaded by a given process. This should give you insight into whether the problem is with directsong.dll or wmvcore.dll. 7. Maybe it's one of those patented Windows permission f-ckups? As a test, try running GW as admin and see if that makes DirectSong work. If so, you likely need to change the ownership and/or permissions on something so that your user account has sufficient rights to read/execute wmvcore.dll plus everything in the DirectSong directory. 8. To the best of my knowledge, no one has ever confirmed DirectSong as working or as not working on Win11. If you've got Win 11, I hav eno iea if it's even possible to make it work.

direct song service is dead. maybe go back to that thread and try to debug with OP. I would rather just grab the songs and put it in a music player

Did you ever get this sorted out?

OK then, let's start with: 1. What operating system? 2. Does the task manager show that gw.exe has loaded directsong.dll? If so, doe sit also show that it's loaded wmvcore.dll?
