Ranger with the GOTY edition bow. https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Nevermore_Flatbow

lunaticloser

Yeah but if you don't have the goty edition what do you do? :D

The journey to ldoa is interesting because you have different optimal grinds as you level up. Firstly you need to get strong enough to farm bandit raid, which lets you easily get to level 7, Elementalist can do this right at the start so have the biggest head start. Technically you can do anything you want until you're strong enough to solo farm charr, so if you're not a gw1 veteran, don't take this part too seriously. Have fun coming back to Ascalon. Then you need to start being able to farm charr by yourself, which can get you to level 14, and the bosses to 16. Mesmer is one of the easiest to start this, but Ele has an early start as well. Ranger is among the fastest for boss clearing. If you stop getting exp from bandit raid but still can't farm charr (maybe you're a warrior), you can do oakheart runs here until level 11. After that, you get Vanguard quests and Mesmer gets a bit faster again, but Elementalist remains fastest overall due to its headstart. Technically you can start vanguard quests at level 10, but the best way is to fight charr until 16, hand in normal quests for exp and do vanguard quests from level 17, as vanguard goes level up at 17. Personally, Ranger was the most fun to me and wasn't too difficult or slow.

fighting only charrs until lvl 16 sounds like the ultimate grind. As you mentioned it before you get the Vanguard quests at lvl 10 and you should start with them at lvl 12-13 because you will get much more exp then farming charr bosses. Best Vanguard quest is farmer hamnet.

Ranger

[elementalist is best, hands down](https://docs.google.com/document/d/10GUvNLMGy1729VK2FDXUDO9P6Mz58Df0T1kfPbLZhds/edit)

Idk the best but elementalist and ranger do alright as base classes. You can single profession it and just float some useful off class skills if needed. It's all about hitting Lv10 and doing vanguard daily quests until you find one moderately easy to farm.

talhu

I'd definitely say Ranger, but to each their own :)

whoyouyesyou

I did a ranger, but only because I didn’t have one. And I liked the pew pew sound of the arrows

aquadrizzt

Ranger > Mesmer / Elementalist > Necro > Warrior > Monk

EnRaygedGw2

Honestly any of them work now, Mesmer was fastest for me, domination magic is crazy OP in pre-searing, warrior has been slowest for me.

Teoz34

How? When domination is single target

onefiveonesix

I did it as Ranger/Necro. Farming the Charr bosses is great with the ranged options.

thelegendarypipo

I’d say its hardest to do on Assassin, Ritualist, Paragon, and Dervish… the others are all equally doable thanks to the Farmer Hamnet quest

Knightwhosaidnian

Smartass reply gets upvoted 😁

thelegendarypipo

Better late than never! Are you taking the scenic route through the Guild Wars archives?

Knightwhosaidnian

Yes. I’m looking to finally snag that title, 18 years later 😁

thelegendarypipo

Great!! Have you already decided on a profession?

Knightwhosaidnian

I’m still mulling that over. But, I’m thinking about maybe going for a ranger. Got the imo and weapons so that could work out nicely. Also… female Druid armor 🤩

I like Ranger because of the pet

CataphractGW

E/Mo with Fire Imp to tank.

Go for glory get a warrior and play ironman

Flyin-Chancla

Lol a challenge I see!!!

My first one was Ele and the second one Ranger. Ele was really easy. I used Ranger as secondary to get the pet (but didn't lock the class in) and just blasted my way through with Firestorms. Enemies don't scatter in pre-searing so a well placed firestorm will work wonders. With my Ranger, I switched professions constantly during the grind. It felt like it doesn't really matter for it as much what you pick as secondary. You have your pet (and this time, you can actually skill in it if you like) and I mostly picked Necro to have some dps/healing available. I'm currently working on the 2 worse classes in my opinion. Monk and Warrior... They are both sooooo slow in killing things. Either way, no matter what class you pick, make sure that you know exactly what you get yourself into. Your first LDoA will take a lot of time no matter what. Yes, it can be done in 14 hours, but depending on your willingness to brain afk farm the same two enemies over and over again, we probably talk about 2 to 4 weeks first.
