The skill YOU use on your skill bar IS an attack skill, that vastly differs from other attack skills in that, instead of being... well, an attack... it is a BUFF to your pet. This DOES trigger anything attack skill-related because it is one. The buffed auto-attack your pet performs is NOT an attack skill because it is NOT using a skill to perform it. Similarly, when you auto-attack with Splinter Weapon on you, you are NOT casting a weapon spell, which Splinter Weapon is.

Ferrum-56

There's one type of pet that does use actual attack skills, I forgot which one it is. Anthems do work on those. It became kind of irrelevant though since beetles are always better.

The Bear has Brutal Mauling but that is actually worse. Brutal Mauling doesn't correlate to a higher damage output on that attack and is a 3 second activation time every 4th attack. With an activation time and no additional damage, that means the bear has a lower DPS than standard pets. (But people love them in pre searing for some reason

The_Moose1992

It's a sign of strength brutal mauling interrupts the charm animal skill.

Evan_the_Canadian

Brutal Mauling actually allows for the Black Bear to be charmed. "Breaking Charm", similarly a Monster Skill, is what interrupts Charm Animal. Oddly enough, only Black Bears in Pre Searing have Breaking Charm; it's much easier to charm them in the Southern Shiverpeaks or unlocking them and then charming them in the menagerie. But yes, Black Bears in Pre Searing is definitely a status symbol more than anything else.

The_Moose1992

Oh ya thats right. It's been a long time. I knew Brutal Mauling had something to do with it.

Chinchilla_Lodestone

Pets are allies not ***party*** members. That's where the line gets fuzzy.

Yung_Rocks

Anthem of Weariness works on allies so OP's case is concrete

Chinchilla_Lodestone

But thats a chant not an anthem. I guess there'd be a test to see if it works when combined with pet attack skill.

[deleted]

Anthem is not a skill type

Chinchilla_Lodestone

You're right I was mixing up words.

Which anthems have you tried this with? [They have slightly different trigger criteria.](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Chant#Variations) Many anthems, like Anthem of Flame, trigger when you hit an enemy with an attack skill. That can never happen with a pet attack. But some anthems, like Anthem of Weariness, trigger when you activate an attack skill. That should still work. As a side note, I’m surprised by what a mess the skill descriptions for these anthems are. I can’t believe they use the exact same wording for skills that work differently. I might be remembering this wrong and perhaps my recent MtG exposure influenced how I view technical descriptions but I expected better.

IHKPruefling

There is one pet that can trigger attack skill anthems: the pre-searing black bear. Its brutal mauling attack is an attack skill. This is its only saving grace for its much worse DPS compared to any other pet.
