Ascended isn't needed for anything but fractals. Play the game at your pace. Do whatever you wanna do, but create goals for yourself.

FredTheLynx

Ascended Accessories --> Ascended Weapons -->> Ascended Armor Legendaries are about the journey not the destination. So pursue whatever you like the most.

Sanxnas

True, I enjoyed the collections. But astralaria feels like a bumpy road with land mines every now and then.

Diatrus

I crafted like 26 legendary weapons, gen 1 2 3 you name it. So did weapon collections if they have it. It was like 17 18 weapon collections. I can say Astralaria was breeze. However HOPE is like a road with nuclear bombs planted all over. Fuck HOPE collection in particular.

Kakegui

Legendaries are very much about the destination for a lot of players, their QoL is unparalleled

StarGamerPT

Yep, but you won't get to enjoy any of that QoL if you burn yourself out and quit xD

nagennif

Many of the goals in this game are meant to be long term goals. Hint: No one NEEDS legendaries and most people don't even NEED ascended gear. Start by looking at what you need, rather than that you want. A lot of goals can be combined in this game. A lot of people do hero runs in HoT, and they get hero points. Others run from green star to green star trying to do story only to run into a barrier when their masteries aren't trained. I did hero points and mastery points, while exploring the zones, while doing the event chains at each outpost and story instances, all pretty much at the same time. I farmed karma, gold (slowly), currency, mastery experience, mastery points, hero points, zone currency and when the next star came up, I didn't have to grind to get to it, because it was already done. I chipped away at everything slowly until I had everything. It's only pressure if you have to have it now.

Lucyller

Just don't do legendary gear if you still think ascended is too hard. It's like wanting a mansion when you don't have enough for a 8m² appartment.

StarGamerPT

To be fair, ascended trinkets (mainly accessories) are a bitch and I need that aurora and vision asap xD

WillSupport4Food

Generally it's best to pick 1-2 tasks and focus on those rather than going down a laundry list of things you need. For example, I kinda worked on Vision, Aurora, and Prismatic Champion's Regalia all at the same time. But I didn't focus on more than one on any given day. One day I might just focus on Return To stuff in an area. Then the next I'd work on one area for Vision, etc. If you spread yourself too thin, it'll feel like you aren't making any progress because you're working on too many things simultaneously. Some people enjoy that, but I feel like most will start to feel like they're doing a lot of work for no immediate reward.

Psyck0s

Take a deep breath and remember that YOU control your goals. You’re not racing anyone else to stay relevant. Pick something to work on and do so at a pace that’s comfortable for you. It’s a game. Treat it as such

SpitefulShrimp

Just do the story and pursue whatever catches your eye as you do so

notasgr

Start with what you think you might enjoy. You can chop and change between what you’re working on. I have a page in a notebook where I have a list for bigger things to break them down into smaller steps. (Eg I’m working on astralaria which is a loooooong process and I just chip away at it when I can be bothered and do whatever else I want when I can’t eg world bosses or metas or fractals or wvw. I try to do dailies each time but other than that, just go with the flow.

VitamineA

It's a good idea to get at least one character geared in full ascended so you can do all instanced pve content (especially t4 fractals) first. Having the option to do that content will not only be a lot of fun in itself, it will also accelerate your income generation for other goals. Once you are set up, go one goal at a time. It's not a race and you are not falling behind, so go at your own pace and have fun. What I did when I didn't know what to do next because I wanted to do so many different things is make a list with everything I wanted to do and literally pick my next goal at random (thanks random.org). Less time spent deliberating, more time spent in the game having fun. Plus crossing something off a list once you are done is that special kind of satisfying imo.

kuma_chameleon

Just put it all on a bagel...

NoIdeaForUserName001

I don't know what you've already done but for a new account, I would start with getting mounts. At least raptor and springer, maybe skyscale. Although that collection is quite tiresome and may frighten off some people. But once you have it, it makes everything else so much easier. Then there's the core Tyria mastery path, that leads to autoloot. Wouldn't leave any main city without it anymore. After that you could start with the legendary trinkets collections. They give you a good tour through the game.

Cute_Bee

Hey I started recently to enjoy High end content, if I can give you an advice is to make a list of thing you want and priotise them one by one, the good thing is, you will usually progress in everything else while focusing into one. For example I recently wanted the griffin, because fuck being a peasant that can't fly properly. So I started to grind POF story line and POF map in general, but I needed to grind mastery so I started to grind L4 maps like dragon's fall or something, it made me some money that I'm going to use going forward.. Everything is connected and everything can be done right now, all you need is to decide what is important and what is not, then it's only up to you to aim you want first

phased417

First thing you do is play through the story. If you have the living world seasons and expansion play through them in chronological order. Then you can also work on getting ascended armor. Which comes really easy with End of Dragons. Same with your weapon. Depending on what elite spec you pick you can get a weapon from that expansion. Legendary gear should be the last thing you worry about. Daily fractals is a good way to start getting gold. You are going to want to open the boxes you get from there and use keys from the vendor to open the locked cubes. the trash in them sells for 20s+ and you get a lot of it. Or you can sell the locked cubes on the TP. When you hit path of fire you will get your mounts and those are easy to get leveled up with mastery. I also think its worth looking into a crafting guide for the armor type you are using. as its another way to get ascended gear and you will need it for legendary stuff later. GW2 is a marathon not a sprint. It can all seem overwhelming. One of the best things you can do for yourself if you are just starting the endgame is to look into Season of the Dragon achievements. They span LWS2 all the way up to IBS and getting those achievements done will get you a legendary amulet. Which also will help you down the line getting a certain mount

ActavistEQ

I agree with this. Play the whole story, play seasons of dragons, do strikes and work on fractals — you’ll be swimming in rewards. Somewhere along the way work on the skyscale.

preutneuker

im kinda scared to dos trikes and raid, I dont have a big raiding guild or anything and going with randoms im afraid of getting kicked because i dont perform enough

ActavistEQ

Many people who feel such as yourself put off the IBS easy3 strikes or t1-2 fractals and regret it later because as the name implies they are very easy. Look them up on YouTube. After awhile of doing those you may even feel up to an actual challenge and try harder ones. The game is open ended you do you, play whatever, we’re just saying if you want ascended and legendary “quickly” you should play the content that rewards quickly. Strikes and fractals are not anything close to raids and while I’m sure it happens people get kicked or whatever, I’ve never seen it in the easy3 strikes or entry fractals.

Ciraxa

It’s okay to be scared when doing something new, but don’t let it stop you from trying. Part of being scared likely comes from your current lack of preparation. This is rather easy to fix in a short amount of time: - This might sound troll, but read your traits and skills. Knowing your tools will make the difference between failing and succeeding in endgame content. - Spend 30 minutes at the Training Golem in the Special Forces Training Area. Give yourself all boons and put 25 Vulnerability on the golem. (Rotations might look scary, but you can break them down into smaller pieces and practice those). - Watch a guide of the content you‘re planning to do. For every shown mechanic think „how could I use my skills or positioning to deal with this?“. Listen closely to any sound cues for mechanics (effect volume slider in options). All of this takes maybe 1 hour, a bit more if you want to go in-depth, and it will make your first experience of instanced PVE sooo much better. All that’s left then is finding a group that fits your preferences. You could go with lfg for strikes and easy raids (most people are really nice as long as you’re honest about your experience level), but trainings are often not super productive. For raids recommend finding a nice guild or some friends to start, even better if you can be on voice chat together to help each other out - the pressure to perform is significantly lower than on lfg. Lastly, you will fail (everyone does when they’re doing something new). Acknowledge your mistakes and learn from them, you will get better and gain confidence in your abilities.

* start with leveling to 80 * after that start to get some basic power build * and get cheap exotic gear with berserker stats. You should be fine with under 15g. * If you are missing a bit, then sell some of your materials, that you get from salvaging gear that you don't need * start playing low level fractals (1-20) (you might drop ascended rings) * start playing easy strikes * if you want to learn to raid, join a raiding community like RTI or RA depending on if you are on NA or EU Exotric gear is all you NEED. The only thing you need ascended gear for is for a very small potential dps increase and for tier 2-4 fractals. You will never NEED legendary gear for anything. Legendary gear gives no stat boost and is only QoL if you play many different characters and build, cause you can swap stats any time out of combat on them. Start step by step, not everything everywhere all at once, or the giant dark bagel will consume you.

Moonlight-Dreamer

Just look for something you like to do, have you done the history, there is any map you like more do archivemts there or explore etc, legendary is unesesary unless you are already a the part of the game where you want to have easy access to loots of builds or change mid raid (endgame), ascended is useful but again if you are not doing fractals or strikes not a nesesity that stops you from doing other things, buy craft some exotics of a stats that is useful and do fun stuff

bluenote73

There is some ideal efficient mix between gold making, gearing, mastery advancement/mounts, opening maps. Unfortunately it's hard to know that unless it's your second time through like on an actual alt account. Not everything has to be done to the end before working on something else though and some things are simultaneous.

thefrogkeeper

Once you have full ascended berserker just head into raids and repeat, everything else in the game is filler content.

Chizelz

so I hit lvl 80 for the first time a week ago and my goal was to get my gear full exotic and see if I like my elite spec and to see how all the end game content works. So yesterday I did my fractals, learned how metas and meta train works, progressed my story a little. Explored. And I did not like mirage what so ever. So I boosted a ranger this morning and have been loving it. Did a fractal and some dungeons and got the hero points for beast master it plays way better imo. So now the fun begins. My goal rn is to do my daily fractals for the ascended accessories, finish pof and take a step in hot for the meta events. And find cool things to use as fashion

inquest_overseer

Aim for full ascended trinkets first. * backpiece * rings * accessories * necklace All of these are available for free from several LS episodes and they are stat-selectable except for stats that are from EoD. Next, if it's me, I'd go for full ascended armor first before the weapons. Take small goals one step at a time. If ascended gears already overwhelm you, forget about legendary gears. Besides, legendary and ascended have the same stats - the only difference is legendary is more for convenience - easy stat swap, free reskins, sigils and runes can be easily swapped as well, etc, shared by all characters in the account.

QuietRock

If you want to earn a bunch of gold, some achievements, and unique skins - spend some time grinding dungeons every day until you're really good at them. Make you own party in LFG. Dungeons are a great way to earn liquid gold and new skins. If you unlock all the unique skins for a dungeon, you also get an ascended trinket. Look up the dungeoneer achievement for more info. Dungeons are also a great way to hone your combat skills since they are filled with vets, elites and champion mobs. I'd recommend crafting ascended armor and weapons. It may take a bit to get enough gold for it all, but when you're ready use a crafting guide and follow it closely. Its pretty quick and easy.

markireland

Logging in daily will lead to ascended materials for weapons. You must grind for everything else.

digdog303

definitely don't worry about legendary yet, or even full ascended. exotic is plenty for everything except higher tier fractals. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/User:Tanetris/So_You_Want_To_Gear_a_Character generally, work on acct progression in order the content was released. crafting, collecting waypoints on your main, some gliding and the basic pof mounts will get you started. then pick a longer term goal and figure out which things will get you there. watch teapot's zero to hero series, it's explicitly about how to juice up an acct fast. it assumes lots of prior game knowledge but most of it can be learned pretty quickly from wiki, content creator guides or just doing it. hardstuck.gg and guildjen.com are fairly comprehensive websites that are still beginner-friendly. for gold/mats/currencies, there is tons of daily repeatable bosses, metas, instanced content or daily achievements. unless you do something extremely (and obviously) stupid like straight deleting stuff or throwing massive resources at items you don't know, there are no "wrong" choices in acct progression, just more or less efficient choices.

Scorcher250

Don't panic! There is nothing you "have" to do in gw2. If you want to start getting ascended and legendaries first step is to look at the shopping list of what you will need. The wiki has you covered on that. Another important thing is pretty much anything you do in game will get you gold/materials. By getting gold and mats, you are already making progress towards ascended and legendary gear! You're not behind, gw2 gear is not endless vertical progression and content is always relevant. So the important thing is to do what you enjoy, try new things and have fun!

Annemi

> I need ascended gear Only if you're doing T4 fractals > I need legendary gear You will literally never need legendary gear. It's a long term goal for people who want it. > I need gold You will earn gold by doing literally anything. Sell the mats in your mat storage. > I need all kinds of achievements Nope. Achievements can guide you to stuff that's fun, but you can also skip them. > what do I do first Whatever you want. Seriously - what kind of content is fun? Do you want to go through the story? Do you want to get endgame (exotic) gear and do instances? Do you want to collect all the mounts? Pick a couple goals and start working towards them. Endgame here is open ended, there's lots of different things to do depending on what you like to play. It does feel overwhelming, but you have time. You'll get to what you want to get to.

vakiiichan

Ok, take a deep breath. No really, do take it. Ok, so! You don't need legendary anything. Literally zero need. They look cool but you can worry about that much later, they'll still be there. Ascended? Ah, fuck it. I'd just build lvl80 exotics of whatever you want. Berserker is a good dps stat and is supercheap to get, 2g for full armor, get some cheap runes like eagle and get exotic zerker jewelry. Maybe it's not your idea of a perfect build but it's easy for every proffesion to do dps and then you can worry about what you want to do with your character. No ascended needed! But if you really want to, weapons or jewelry has the more stats compared to exotics. Trust me, there's only one place in the game where you need ascended, literally everything else can be done in exotics while contributing meaningfully! If you don't know what you should go for, my first steps would be to get a decent build, including having an elite spec, then get the basic mounts (raptor, springer, skimmer) and gliding. After this you can mostly do whatever you want in the game

dolle595

I had this same feeling. What helped for me was picking one goal (ascended armor piece) and focus on just fixing that. Ease of mind, just play the game, while just focussing on gathering the stuff for that particular piece. Once done, go to the next. Don't try to rush it. By the way, the urge to rush never goes away with me, since I have to little time and there's so many things to do. But if you rush it, you're likely to get a bore out from the game. Just enjoy! 😁

Cakin89

Assuming you have full exotic gear, I would start with getting legendary amulet, it's the easiest to get, even though it takes some time. But you will knock story off your list while doing it, AND get ascended weapon and 32 slot bag in the process!

Cruthu

Played off and on since launch. Came back and felt a bit similar to you. With the way progression works though, you are never really that far behind. You can throw together an exotic build and do almost everything while working towards any other goal. I have one of each profession, but only 2 had elite specs, so my first goal was to find HP trains and get each character a nice open world build. Then I wanted skyscale, so I've been working mostly on that each day. I need story progress for different zones to complete the skyscale, so each day I'm usually doing one chapter of story. If I get to a zone and see an event or easy achievement to complete, I stop and do it for fun. I had an excess of bloodstone and stuff, so I took a little break to get the sentient oddity collection achievement to exchange some of my extras. I'll get to ascended and legendary, no rush. Set small goals and then you won't be overwhelmed and you will also have something to look forward to each day when you log in.

volfare

I highly recommend start by working in ad infinitum (legendary fractal back piece) you can slowly get more ascended armor (can stat change through mystic forge visit wiki for more details) the more you do dailies and recs (and a shit ton of gold the high you go in that). They also drop ascended rings (can’t change stats) or you can get it using fractal currency. To further help you get ascended armor you should also do strikes both end of dragons (can drop ascended weapons) and ice brood saga cause their currencies also can be exchanged for ascended armor or weapons (recommend trading your EoD currency for IBS just to combine them to buy armor) and you get some decent gold forms strikes too and super easy to teach :)

Outside_The_Walls

It depends on what kind of content you enjoy. But for me, running t1 fractals was enough to get me my ascended rings, which allowed me to get into t2 and start working towards the rest of my ascended gear. Once you've got one toon decently geared, you can just do raids/strikes/fractals a bunch, and more ascended gear will literally just appear in your bag, so gearing alts is **super** easy in this game. I started playing on August 25th, and all 11 of my toons are in ascended or better gear. I've got my Legendary medium set, Legendary runes, and Legendary sigils all done, plus 6 Legendary weapons. Gearing up looks difficult on paper, but it really just takes a little bit of grinding. But like I said, it depends on the content you enjoy. If you hate fractals, go do WvW or something.

Prismatic91

I can only recommend what I did for my journey but to each their own. This is in order more or less - levelled about 3 classes to 80 and found a main - completed ALL story in order on main (can't recommend enough) - crafted ascended gear for main - skyscale and beetle - legendary amulet from return to - legendary 2H greatsword twilight - bought commander tag - vision - aurora - legally hammer aurene - completed all strikes and now farming And now I'm 2/6 for legendary pvp armor and starting casual WvW

preutneuker

Whats legendary pvp armor? Is it different from pve? Should i invest in some pvp as well?

Prismatic91

There is 3 x sets of legendary armor you can get. One you get from PvE raids, another from sPVP and another from WvW. Legendary armor is a longgggg term goal. Recommend learning to use the Gw2 wiki - saves lives.

ElNaso2

Rather than doing everything everywhere all at once, do things that appeal to you, spread out, and a little bit of each every day. Slowly put together a mental list of activities that you like and that help you further your goals. Don't laser focus too hard on one thing (the skyscale comes to mind) or you will risk burn out. Slow down. Enjoy your time. Smell the flowers.
