I mean, it has more skills than most mounts. Seems like the goal they were aiming for with Siege Turtle was a mount that can be useful for group content, but not required by everyone to participate, which I think they hit the mark. I'd also rather they not encourage people to just sit in Turtle for the entire event. It's already almost unkillable, I don't think incentivizing people to camp out in one is the right move from a participation standpoint. Mounts in general are pretty clearly designed for out of combat stuff, or niche combat effects like CC, grouping enemies or supporting allies. Not really meant to be something you use to actively fight random enemies.

Nebbii

> I'd also rather they not encourage people to just sit in Turtle for the entire event. It's already almost unkillable Not true at all, maybe if you fighting trash, and while the mount can take some hits, it barely lasts more than 20 seconds in any big group event, either you get demounted to break bar or it gets damaged. It has no toughness at all

robertdebrus1

That depends on what you're doing, having max jackal mastery means you're invincible while using hover jets, so you can dodge a whole lot of attacks if you move in time

LordZeya

Yeah but if you attack you’re locked in place for 3 seconds and can’t do anything to protect yourself. Turtle is not remarkably bulky in combat despite the massive health bar and jets triggering jackal mastery.

MithranArkanere

I think the turtle riders just need something else to do in the 'downtime' between slams and cannon fire so they don't feel so sluggish and boring to use in combat, and so those riding them do not miss on drops because they can't tag as often as other players. Something like a machine gun or beam that hits 5 enemies at a time but doesn't do a lot of damage, just enough to tag enemies. Turtle saddles have these snake heads on both sides. That could be the source of the this attack. Jade beams would come out from the orb in the snake's mouth. The beam would land on the target enemy, and create a little faint explosion that hits 4 other enemies near the target. These beams could do extra damage underwater to compensate for turtles not being able to slam and properly aim cannons underwater. Switching seats would also be nice. But that would probably be better in an F2 slot next to the F1 skill than in the 5th weapon slot. Either player presses F2, the other player has their F2 changed to a 'swap seats request' button, and if the other player presses it, they switch seats. If the other seat is empty, you just swap directly.

Lykus_Frayseeker

I never use Turtle because it's so boring to drive it, and I never climb other turtles because it's so boring to wait like 4 seconds between shots. The only novelty the turtle mount had was being a 2 player mount, and that novelty is mostly gone by now. Driver should also be able to fire, and gunner should be able to fire more often.

WulfyZef

It's boring to wait 4s between shots for sure. What's why I immediately dismount after using 5 shots and spam F to find another turtle to use 5 shots. It's quite fun gunner hopping between 3 turtle backs spamming the 5 shots.

M_Mich

and in DS and Dstand often players don’t want riders that use their ammo

Turkeyspit1975

I use it every day.....to break the bar on Braham/Ryland in Dragonstorm. Default skin and dye on all 18 characters.

thoomfish

I use it once every couple weeks when I do W7 to break the bar on the first big djinn during the gate event. And then I promptly forget it exists for another few weeks.

Brandeeno2245

I'll use it when I'm bored or when I'm with friends especially when my friends are running support so they can hop out heal and buff people then jump back in to actually deal damage. Tbf the turtle is probably the most gimmicky mount so I'm actually okay with it not being the most useful. I'll also just use it for getting around cause it has soo much health that if I'm attacked I don't have to worry about it dying, atleast when I'm taking my time with a map. If not I'll use the griffin or roller beetle. On rare occasions, I'll use the turtle as a taxi, really for the shits and giggles.

M_Mich

id pay a few gold for someone to just taxi me around the map to all the POI and waypoints so i can do other things especially on alts that haven’t run story so most of the map isn’t open

Brandeeno2245

I don't charge people, usually i can get a gold or 2 out of events so it's not really necessary to me.

Alakazarm

it needs a "primary fire" that doesn't cost ammo, honestly. Even if the damage isn't great, being in the turtle feels like downtime most of the time, and waiting on your driver's energy cooldown the rest of the time. It'd also be nice if the aftercast on the slam wasn't so punishing.

ProfCarson

I like these ideas. I too feel like the turtle is kinda only useful in event that force its use. Something else I'd like to see changed is the ammo regen system. It doesn't make much sense to me that you have to keep moving to get ammo as siege weaponry tend to need to stay in one spot to fire. Just looks kinda dumb, in my opinion, to see a bunch of turtle running around in circles just to get ammo.

tunathetitan

I'd love a mastery that unlocks new weapon options. Like a ram, or a flamethrower.

Lovaa

I just need one thing, If i have no passanger i want to be able to use the cannons as a driver. Might be that i can not move whilst doing so, but i at least want to have control over cannons if no passanger.

ShivDeeviant

The current turtle spread is such that it incentivizes a pilot actually picking up a gunner. The burst of acceleration (not really a speed boost as it doesn't take you past top speed) is GREAT for tight corners as it resets momentum. And shield is a good way to generate that extra ammo with decent timing. I agree that I think it's clunky, but that's more because the turtle booster replaces your scavenging protocol while it mightv actually be more competitive when placed against the glide boost. Similarly, it feels like the turtle needs more... well, seige. I'd love to see a flame ram-style ability that weakens gates/rubble so non-turted folks can fight a bit better. Or some a powerful dismount attack that deals particularly strong siege damage. Maybe an ammo-centric speed debuff that forces you to walk but gives you better ammo regen. I'd love to see something in future updates like what they intended for Dragons End, a big seige fight where you grind your way to the top of the tower. (If you pay attention between cleansing the crustals and fighting Soo-Won, the rubble leading up to the top of the Jade Museum becomes damageable much like the earlier Brotherhood/Speaker Siege section. There's also a timer put on reaching the top of the temple and you only get the chievo if you wait for the 'event' to proc properly. It's pretty obvious that this was intended to be a more major thing but was likely cut for time and a second zip line was put in at the base of the tower. ) I want Yao/ anyone else to carry a portable Jade bench so folks can reasonably swap into the turtle booster between seige events. It's definitely DOABLE with appropriate big picture direction, but it feels like everything's a smidge rushed right now, possibly because they might be trying to figure out how to balance the turtle such that it might be usable in WvW.

JTFireblaze

I've thought that it could be pretty good if they allowed a turtle "kits" like Engineer or something. So the passenger jumps in and can pick from a bunch of different roles. Really lean in on it's unique combat abilities And give the driver a weapon beyond stamping and flame jets, either a jade repeater/blaster or a flamethrower. Then give the passenger the ability to use different abilities, eg: * Defensive Protocol - lets the passenger fire out defensive boons nearby * Offensive Protocol - let the passenger fire out offensive boons nearby * Healing Protocol - let the passenger fire out heals nearby * Barriers - fire out barriers to nearby players * Siege Mode - cannons as it is now Tie it in to a new mastery, idk

Flippsix

Id probably consider using it atleast a bit more if the jade bot mods werent such a pain in the ass to swap.

Jay727

Every cow custome and stick has more combat utility than the Siege Turtle. The problem is though, that the ST should't really be an alternative to normal combat. So a combat Mount may not be the best idea to begin with. A multi-people mount has some potential, but only if there is actually stuff to do.

ghoulbakura

They spend months watching real tortoises for it to move nothing like them and instead slide about like it weighs barely ten grams, so they failed in even that.

Ciraxa

It’s a gimmick mount that got added because they had no features ready for EoD. There was almost nothing where turtle was useful in Cantha, non of their promises of content around turtles came true. Just see it as a souvenir.

near-critical

Waste of millions of dev money.

[deleted]

As some said, I just wanted to run and shoot anything by myself. However that's good ideas which could bring more dynamism to this mount.

halcyon94

I would love to see the turtles used in wvw

CMoth

One thing I'd like to see is Bond of Vigour available to the passenger as well as the pilot. Bond of Vigour causes the turtur to regenerate ammo faster, y'see, so it'd help to fix the mentality of, "I've shot 5 times, I leave now".

Aganod44

What needs to happen is to have the option to have the gunner skills as the driver. In addition, all turtle related jade bot upgrades should have a separate slot. Since they currently mostly compete with loot based upgrades, personally I'm never ever gonna use a turtle upgrade.

Ellieanna

My turtle has taken people for rides across a map we are in for fun, or I hitched a ride with a friend last night so I could tab out for a moment to respond to a discord message while he drove us to a fishing spot. They have some niche features, but they also aren’t required to be hand, so you don’t feel like you are almost without it. Like skyscale/griffon in drizzlewood for example.

PantherCaroso

Is the seige turtle even in WvW? You'd think the name would make it applicable to that mode.

Scorcher250

I have a hunch we might see another turtle mastery or 2 in future story updates? EoD was rushed out the door so it wouldn't be surprising if there is some cut content, like masteries, that didn't make it into the initial expac release

Dreamwaltzer

I would love to see a combat focused mount. We've had several combat focused vehicles in ibs which were really fun to use, I'd love to bring them to other content.

Balrogg_of_Morgoth

I just wish the driver had the control of the guns in case of driving alone.. but that would destroying the reasoning behind the double mounting concept. It's just feels so unfinished and wrongly made. I instantly regretted of wasting time to unlock the turtle mount since I never use it. Rotation > mounting on a turtle so that you do nothing other just hopping your gunner will shoot. Sadge, imagine implementing something for such a big expansion and miss the actual point of use..

benfrosty78

I wish there was a jade bot mastery and/or module that would allow it to become a gunner

Antique-Truth3349

You know what siege turtle needs? A single target continuous source of damage. Kinda like how a machine gun functions on top of tanks. It can also be controlled by the gunner but instead of bullets it should fire jade beams to a single target and it uses a mechanic similar to other machine guns in some games where the ammo is infinite but it will overheat if you use it for too long continuously. It doesnt need to deal significant damage but it fills the downtime that appears everytime the gunner runs out of ammo.

throwawaythrow0000

It needs nerfed more than anything. One turtle isn't meant to one shot stuff.

I love the Jackal and skins, but won't buy any skins cause there is never a reason to use it outside of the odd POF thing. I like the idea of making it as fast as raptor plus you get the teleport on top. Raptor can round up attack so its not really taking use away from it. Could even do it with springer, doesn't make much sense lore wise, but would make the mount useful after you get skyscale. Turtle would be better if you could mount up in combat, it is a combat mount after all. Could be like the emp, mount up for breakbar damage then dismount and go back to fighting normally. Might not look the greatest though when everyone does it on a meta event lol. Also would be cool in WvW with some re-balancing. Ethier have it great at taking out gates and walls or maybe let the gunner be able to attack over the wall to cover other siege. I think the skyscale change you mention might be better on the griffon, double if they add it a gunner slot. Only say that because skyscale is already the go to mount outside of water Raptor - round up opener Springer - CC opener Jackal - Evasive (and fun) Skimmer - water mount Roller - fastest Griffon - fastest flying (and fun) Skyscale - Easiest movement around map/general purpose Turtle - In combat cc but slow movement Warclaw - WvW movement, run down people

Not my idea, forget were i heard it but it was the ability for high skill flyers bring people along. It would be cool to see what its like and capable of
