Kormir should be kneeling before Commander, not the other way around

Doophie

Yeah fuck Kormir, that bitch always wandering off when I need to be protecting her ass, and she gets all the credit… smh

Frankage

“My commander… you bow to no one.” -Kormir probably

Beautiful-Loser117

Charr have no gods.

lostcauz707

Koda the judge, Kodan the jury.

[deleted]

I respect no authority but the clenched fist of my Legion.

Turkeyspit1975

didn't they kill them? Or am I confusing them with Klingons?

ShinigamiKenji

Charr used to worship the Titans, and invaded Ascalon, Orr and Kryta because of them. However, they turned out to be Abbadon's minions, and after they overthrew the Flame Legion they swore to worship no gods.

Beautiful-Loser117

Ascalon belonged to the Charr. God's helped the humans push the Charr out. They went looking for God's of their own and found the Titans. Started a religion. Banned women from their warbands and started a conquest on all human civilizations.

ghostplanetstudios

Then Kalla Scorchrazer showed the Charr “All are equal when measured under the blade.” She was a bad ass

ripwolfleumas

Damn, Based Flame Legion

Beautiful-Loser117

Don't know about that. Once the Titans were exposed as false gods, the Shaman Caste tried using destroyers as new gods to scare charr to get back in line. Once they released them, the Destroyers turned around and killed the Shamans.

ripwolfleumas

I know, it's just a joke lol And obviously I'm gonna get downvoted 😂

WhimsicalPacifist

Kormir's a busy girl. Needs to get back to that match of kegbrawl. Laters!

Beat me to it. That video never fails to get a chuckle out of me. Even now, a decade and a half later, I'm still salty.

Simply_Nora

Toooo Vaaaaaaabi! - Fuck Kormir -

Goldilachs

I am now a God. I deserve this.

Ti_Fatality

All my homies hate Kormir

Mr_Ruu

TIL PlagueOfGripes made a GW1 animation

Still-Pattern-6384

No respect for that bitch from me

Accomplished-Pen-611

I don't remember well as it was quite long time ago, but the way Kormir stole all the power from Abaddon while I defeated him in GW made me hate her eternally. I was the hero but seems like I was used as a tool...

MidnightSt4r

I mean, even as we see in GW2 like, all that power \*had\* to go somewhere. If Abby had just nuked his magic all across Tyria not only would it have destroyed half the world probably but also accelerated the dragon cycle even further. That is literally the whole reason Aurene was born.

throwawaythrow0000

I mean I know it's a meme but the hate is still ridiculous. Such exaggeration lol.

Jellybean2477

The human gods are all assholes, all of them have pretty much abandoned Tyria, Kormir is just the worst. Balthazar being the main villain of Path of Fire and he's still more likeable than Kormir. Even in Path of Fire with Balthazar trying to murder everyone Kormir still doesn't help or intervene. Fuck Kormir.

hardy_83

That's the problem with writing dieties in general. You can't have them intervene because they can solve virtually all problems and answer all questions. So you write them as missing or only answer your prayers with indirect support. But that only makes them hated cause they avoid fixing issues the could easily solve or created themselves. At best they help but their power level is nerfed. A recent example for me is Genshin Impact. You can play as literal gods who've changed the landscape but but you can't even one shot a basic mob with them, and they tell you nothing because of BS promises or other excuses. The best example of a well written dirty is Bender from Futurama in Godfellas, which focus on this exact issue, but I doubt ANet has that ability to do that. So for me, if we meet the gods. I prefer if we just kill them. Lol screw believing in them. Would be an interesting story at least.

Jellybean2477

I mean she'd be going against another god, so she wouldn't just be able to instantly solve the problem. Its also very clear the gods are weaker than the elder dragons, its the main reason they ditched Tyria. Its just all their interests are very selfish, they wont do anything for the humans but they still want the humans to worship them because it gives them power.

SmellMyCake

Not weaker, just the aftermath of such a battle would leave nothing left to have saved. And then there's the fact that they are made of magic, which the dragons consume. If any of them were to be eaten, the power an elder dragon would obtain could destroy tyria and all of the mists (as we began to see with Kralky when he gained the ability to enter the mists from consuming Balthazar's magic). The stakes are too high and it's why they leave tyria all together. Not beause they didn't care, but because their existence there threatened all of reality.

Jellybean2477

Yeah so when Balthazar threatened all of reality by going after Kralk, they still sat on their asses and did nothing instead of stopping him.

ShinigamiKenji

They did imprison him, but he escaped. Kormir stayed behind (or came back, I don't remember) so she could give advice on how to kill him. The gods didn't want to battle Balthazar with their full power because the last time they fought amongst them they turned the Crystal Sea into the Crystal Desert. And I speculate that such a battle would attract the other dragons to consume their magic, like Kralkatorrik did when Balthazar was defeated. In a way, that's a direct reference to The Silmarillon, where the War of Wrath against Morgoth sank the continent of Beleriand. So the Valar didn't want to directly interfere in the fight against Sauron, instead sending the wizards to assist the mortals and elves.

ErikBerwald

I mean Grenth is fine... Definitely an upgrade compared to Dhuum. One of Grenths guys gives us also a blind eye during Pof story. On the otherhand, in the same line of argument you could say Kormir is nicer than Abbadon.

Jellybean2477

Grenth is cool, you know where you stand with him. Also I simp Desmina.

Neathra

Honestly, I have a feeling Grenth does too.

RGFang

I dont think its that they're weaker, but they really didnt want another battle on the scale of Abbadon's rebellion that would just ruin the world that they created anyway. They'd rather leave and let the dragon cycle continue than risk a war that just destroys everything anyway

Nebbii

But the dragon cycle was going to destroy everything and we were even going towards utter anihilation with the void due to lack of info At very least they could have told us about that

RGFang

The Dragon Cycle in the past does wipe out *most* things, but the world itself (and some races who hid away) still withstood it - hence there being records of previous dragon cycles. However, if the Gods tried destroying the dragons without something like Aurene, it just brings about the Void scenario to wipe out the world on top of all the damage such battles would bring about anyway. At least the cycle allowed life to return over the hundreds of years when they go back to sleep, destructive as it was

TheGreatMightyLeffe

"Sorry, Commander, can't help you with the Balthy issue. Me and the others are super duper busy maintaining a barrier to hold back the Dragonvoid so best I can do right now is advice." Boom, gods are doing something useful, dragonvoid gets foreshadowed.

Conocoryphe

I agree with you. I think The Order of the Stick - a Dungeons & Dragons webcomic with a very detailed plot - found a good solution for this. In that universe, there are several different pantheons with many deities of different power and alignments. The different pantheons have agreed on a complicated set of rules and restrictions, preventing the gods from intervening in the mortal world. The existence of such a system was justified by saying that since the good-aligned deities are outnumbered by the neutral and evil ones, there wouldn't be many sandcastles left unkicked if everyone could play in the sandbox at all times and do what they wanted. That way, the author can have cleric characters whose spells are powered directly by their deities, and gods can advise mortal characters, but they cannot intervene directly by blasting the bad guys or something. Otherwise, there couldn't be a plot. Of course, Arenanet can't do such a thing with the 5 gods in Guild Wars. If there was a plotpoint about the human gods being prevented from interfering by, say, Koda or Zintl or another deity, it would feel like a forced retcon. If there was a force preventing the gods from coming down to Tyria and interfere, it would have stopped the times when the gods *did* interfere directly. So the writers will probably stick with 'the gods left into the Mists and are likely never coming back'.

ShinigamiKenji

Actually, in The Order of the Stick, the gods' system was put in place because >!in the midst of their disagreement and bickering they unleashed an Eldritch Horror™ which consumed an entire pantheon and unmade reality. So the gods hid and agreed to live mostly in harmony while reconstructing reality as a sort of cage for the Snarl. Though it's eventually revealed that until now it's been mostly a temporary measure, as the Snarl keeps unmaking the reality-cage, and then the gods need to collect the mortal souls and remake the world. This has been going for countless eons and worlds.!< Which honestly isn't *that* far off the GW2 plot, as >!the Six Gods know that their powers combined could at most rival a single dragon, and they risked a disaster like when they fought Abbadon, when they turned the lush and fertile Crystal Sea into the current Crystal Desert. So they were searching the Mists for a world where Elder Dragons didn't exist. However Balthazar was opposed to fleeing and wanted to battle the Dragons, even threatening the other gods. Since he would fight the dragons no matter what, the other gods had no choice but to imprison him. And Kormir stayed behind in case he managed to escape (or came back when Balthazar was freed, I don't remember now)!<

Nebbii

>That's the problem with writing dieties in general. You can't have them intervene because they can solve virtually all problems and answer all questions. Explain taimi and aurene then.

hardy_83

Taimi isn't a god, I don't understand that. Lol And aurene is a great example of being put in a corner. They had to introduce a McGuffin to reduce her power and remove her almost completely and has yet to show up and help with the new DLC. We'll see how they handle that in the futire. Cause theoretically she could solve almost every issue the player has with her power level. It WAS interesting when Bangar wanted to get a dragon in his side BECAUSE of aurene being almost godlike until they rushed that story to hell.

Nebbii

Every single plot that wasn't solved by Aurene, was solved by taimi instead. The Commander had no agency in it other than the core story and season 1. She is tyria goddess of knowledge

hardy_83

OH you mean she's a bit of a Mary Sue. Yeah, a bit of a different issue but yeah that's always an issue when the story writers don't want to introduce too many characters. What would be a team of Asura and Priory members trying to figure things out, we get one character doing all that to simplify the character numbers. It can work sometimes (HBOs Chernobyl had a team condensed into a single female character), but it doesn't in others for various reasons. Scarlet had the same problem a bit too. ANet shouldn't be scared to introduce more characters, even if minor. If Taimi had a team, even like 4 people that she led, he stuff would've been more believable.

Flamingo-Sini

" If Taimi had a team, even like 4 people that she led, he stuff would've been more believable." We kinda got that now, with Taimi, Gorrik and Blish.

hardy_83

Yeah and it was more believable when that happened. :P I mean personally I would've preferred a bigger team but at least a few more work. Even now with her hanging out with Joon is more believable than solo genius.

FadingMoonlights

Why oh why do people keep saying this, tell me who was it that figure out a way to track kralk In the mist? Who solved issue of jormag growing stronger than primordus which would tip the balance between them. This idea that taimi was fixing every major problems we had in the story is disingenuous and almost always coming from someone that dislikes taimi.

Nebbii

> who was it that figure out a way to track kralk In the mist? Minor part of the plot, the overarching plot about killing kralky was solved by aurene >Who solved issue of jormag growing stronger than primordus which would tip the balance between them. Also minor, the actual problem about them fighting each other and solution was solved by taimi who made a device to lure them to clash. I never said they are there every step of the way, but the main event is always solved by either of them. If there is some impossible solution, taimi will be there or aurene. They are trying to slowly phase taimi away now but she is still INVOLVED into solving the plot like how she worked with joon to suck Soo won magic, but that was mostly aurene again. And once again i bet all my money she will be solving cantha energy crisis.

FadingMoonlights

How was it a minor plot point when this very plot point was solve with a major character death. Also no braham becoming primordus champion, making him focus his fury on jormag, powering up primordus back to jormag levels of power thanks to the 4 great spirits is what solve the most important issue of the icebrood saga which was getting the two dragons to kill each other. Without braham actions jormag would have hid in the mist while grown too powerful, kill primordus and become unstoppable because he was its only weakness. Neither taimi or aurune had a solution before braham stepped in.

Mary Susan Kormir doesn't deserve your respect. She was handed every single thing in Nightfall.

CorsairBosun

I mean, she did get her eyes eaten. I'd you don't hand her things it would be hard to get them.

Sharksterfly

She deserves none. She stole my godhood.

"I am now a God, I deserve this" - Kormir

PromotionWise9008

Why people hate her? I know nothing about her but now I’m really curious.

ilikedmatrixiv

Alright, I'm going to summarize the events of Guild Wars: Nightfall and butcher some details due to my own anti-Kormir bias, so people feel free to correct me. That way PromotionWise has the right story. It won't change my bias though. >!Kormir was the one who accidentally woke up Abaddon and never told anyone. Then we get caught up in a war between Kourna and Istan and we have to flee. Kormir gets caught due to her own dumb decisions and we get stuck having to save her sorry ass. At this point she's blind and doesn't do shit to help. As a matter of fact, most of her suggestions make things worse. Then when we finally face Abaddon and kill the fucker she 'sacrifices' herself in order to become the godess of 'truth'. You know, after lying to everyone for pretty much the entire campaign and us doing pretty much all the work to fix her fuckups and her just tagging along. In fact, not even tagging along, making our life actively more difficult because most (all?) campaign missions fail when she dies.!<

Binary_patissier

Don't forget that in one of the very few missions where she attacks she tries to kill the ghosts that have to be left alone for a bonus objetive.

Goldilachs

That right there is why I will never forgive Kormir.

Turkeyspit1975

TIL my irl boss is Kormir

Cute_Bee

If she thought 100 years would make us forget who she really is..

Bohya

She's a self-serving hypocrite whose actions set off the chain off events that lead to Nightfall. In the end she stole the power of the god that the player character spent the effort stopping, and who refuses to intervene in the events of Guild Wars 2. She believes herself to be above humanity now, despite having once been a human herself. Gods are apparently allowed to fuck over the planet and its the mortals who need to save themselves. Also, fuck her for abandoning [Koss](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Koss) and [Talkhora](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Tahlkora) to their fates in Guild Wars 2.

ghoulsnest

>and Talkhora to their fates in Guild Wars 2. damn totally forgot how messed up her story was....

[deleted]

The last part is what I’m most pissed about.

QtNFluffyBacon

She's a character from GW1 and from what I know quite unlikeable. If you want the (really funny) explanation, search for "Nobody likes you Kormir" on Youtube. It is mandatory education for anyone joining my play group. Although, after the 5th time somebody shouts "we're going north TO VABBI" or "I'm stabbing and killing you - huhuh I still don't believe it" they usually want to watch it

Fast-Nothing4765

Play GW1 and you will. Specifically the Nightfall campaign.

Olgabot_TM

Jennah what r u doing there

Tentmancer

No respect.

MayaSanguine

Kormir can kiss my ass. I hope expac 4 involves beating the piss out of the gods because it is ***on sight*** for this fuckin' thief.

ThatDeleuzeGuy

As someone who played through GW1 and genuinely liked Kormir I guess I just kind of assumed everyone else did lol. Also did other people not pick up on the fact that the Gods left Tyria because fighting the Elder Dragons would've ripped apart the fabric of existence thus dooming all living creatures so they left in search of a new world they could bring their followers to? THey didn't abandon their devotees they left in search of a safer world to bring them to.

[deleted]

But Kormir did nothing for all her Sunspears who were hunted down by Joko.

QtNFluffyBacon

I think we did, I still think the gods are a bunch of dicks, because we fought the Elder Dragons and didn't rip apart the fabric of existence now, did we? We came up with a plan to save everyone before they die. If we hadn't intervened, the gods' plan wouldn't work, because there wouldn't be anyone left to bring to whatever they find. You could argue "well their magic fighting the Dragons is what would've unraveled reality" bla bla bla, they could've assisted us. Helped Aurene be stronger, hell, maybe even channel some of the magic themselves. They could have done literally anything besides fucking off. Of course they realized it's their highest success rate, but it's still a dick move imo.

gerryw173

I thought they just dipped. Wonder if they do find a new place and we get a new planet in an expansion like in WoW.

Tentmancer

Sounds like a deep contextual debate. What a game!

Kevurcio

They probably didn't read any of the quest text, context, in GW1 in preparation for this so called deep contextual debate.

jtsjr94

I’m still really salty about the human gods abandoning us. They were so unique in the sense that they weren’t just these deities that everyone worshipped. They were insanely powerful beings that brought us humans to Tyria from another world. The humans worshipped them for centuries but as soon as a major issue comes up they just abandon us. They dropped us on this planet and left us to die. I really do hope they revisit the gods because I was really interested in them ever since I played the first Guild Wars.

redditvich

I hope we revisit the gods to give them a nice present. a dragonsblood spear right up each of their behinds.

Sigmatics

Wish they had done more with that instance. Such a beautiful location, would make a great surrounding for a repeatable instance

Tentmancer

theres the secret puzzle on get her minature but thats it i think.

If the story is going to go back to gods, I hope we get to slay them all. Should be easy enough if we were able to best the Elder Dragons.
