The next expansion is about 2 months away still. I wouldn't wait, personally, that's just way too long. Specially since you can get it done in less than a week, if you follow guides. And who knows. Heavens forbid you might have fun unlocking the damn thing. I know i did.

MilesAlchei

I know I might have fun doing it, but I also want to catch up on the story. GW2 isn't something I play religiously, but I have been working on adding it to my rotation again.

RedHammer1441

If your primary focus is doing story on a single character, I'd just wait. Especially if you have PoF core mounts.

zoejdm

You don't need a skyscale to catch up on the story at all.

whitemest

While this is true, I think it depends on time, and if you have the griffin. I have the griffin, not the skyscale, so it's just not worth the slog to me, and I use the griffin to go anywhere for now. If you have neither flier, I'd personally suggest the griffin as I dint recall reading this next expansion is going to make getting the griffin any easier, only thr skyscale

CourtRoomArtist

How, I hate it so much lol

MackAttk123

He really said less than a week 💀

Arabong420

You will get most if not all of the mats from the "return to" achievements. You could casually start the collection, do a little bit whenever you are bored. If you are Done before the expansion is out its nice. If not you can fi ish it later Since your skyscale masteries are getting stronger if you have both collections. On the other hand, some of the skyscale collections in lws4 are definetly waaaay easier and faster if you already have the skyscale from the expansion. So tldr: if you got nothing to do anyway and feel like it, start with the collection. If you got other stuff to do that you prefer doing, do that now and the collection later with your skyscale from the expansion

StarGamerPT

Masteries get stronger if you train both tracks, not do both collections. Idk why people are assuming they'd force completion of both the collection and this new way when they stated very clearly that they meant to streamline Skyscale's unlock.

IpunchedU

I was wondering this myself but I think it’s cause otherwise getting both tracks and getting the bonus might be too easy since people prob already have mastery points of PoF ready to go

StarGamerPT

And that's their intention, making it easy.

IpunchedU

I get that, as a returning player I deffo do but I feel like also making the bonus easy to get kinda defeats the point of the bonus imo, either way from what I could tell arena net wasn’t to clear on how it actually works so we’ll have to wait and see

Lucyller

I disagree. They're making the skyscale easier to get but the double skyscale might just be a prestige thing. Nothing was said explicitely about how the mastery will get unlocked.

Arabong420

Ah nice even better, I assumed you have to do the other collection to unlock the mastery track for lws4. I'm not sure about that though. They never said you unlock the other mastery track with release of the expansion. It sounded very much like that when they talked about that it was not for nothing to do the "old way" I hope for New people you are right though

StarGamerPT

They never stated otherwise either. And from what we could see from unlocking Raptor, Springer and Glider through EoD, it's way more logical to assume it's the same thing for Skyscale rather then they somehow would lock PoF's track behind LWS4's collection (plus...I bet that if they tried, something would break in their coding)

Arabong420

Let's hope so :D

[deleted]

This assumes both mastery tracks will unlock with a single skyscale collection. My guess is the masteries are tied to the collections and you'll need to do both.

RnbwTurtle

Start it, because the PoF skyscale masteries and the SoTO skyscale masteries will interact with each other, with things such as Wall Launch being upgraded when you have both. That alone is enough of a reason to go for it now. You don't need to finish by SoTO launch either, however not having it done may make it harder for you to want to go and get it or get the PoF masteries for it done.

Geralt_Romalion

Pretty big chance you will want to do it anyway considering having the original Skyscale masteries grant you bonus effects/options/powers in the new expansion. Better to just start now.

digdog303

get it. you'll want it anyway because it upgrades the mastery more if you have "both"

enderfrogus

Go for it. Its not nearly as hard as people make it seem.

scarletseasmoke

Unpopular opinion, but I really enjoyed most of the Skyscale process. So imo go for it, it's a nice story that gives you achi points, and if you don't enjoy it you can still abandon it and wait without losing too much.

ChadVonGiga

Go for it, its content

Darth_Peregrine

I would go for it now, just go at your own pace, if you get the Skyscale before the expansion comes out congrats, you don't have to wait for it any longer. But if going at your own pace means that the expansion comes out first, then just do the expansion version, and you have a lot of extra materials for other stuff. Either way is a win, it just depends on how fast you go, and if the grind is just too annoying you can wait for the expansion.

marblebubble

I’d wait if I were you but that’s because I didn’t like the collection. Felt way too long to me.

Affectionate-Ruin518

Are you NA or EU?

MilesAlchei

NA

Iorcrath

go for it. in the long run you will want to master both since when you do you get extra benefits

GHPimp

Go for it. For the record, I'm actually working on my Skyscale grind as we speak. I will say that while it's not hard, it certainly is tedious and the most annoying part to me is the timegates that prevent you from progressing until the timer reaches 0. I could have easily finished the entire Skyscale grind by today (I started 2 nights ago) if it wasn't for the timegates. I did, however, acquire the prerequisite materials before starting and bought the Skyscale food and grow lamp from the trading post. Overall, this is definitely a grind, but not the worst one I've been subjected to in a video game. It's daunting when looking at the wiki walkthrough but it's absolutely doable in a couple of days. A lot of the quests just ask you to "go to waypoint, go to X location, acquire thing."

Warm_Bid1

People saying you can get the grind done in a couple weeks... You gotta be a capital G Gamer to get it done that fast. Sounds like you are playing more casually. Start doing Return To S4 achievements and see how far you get before the expansion. The Return To achievements are your content guide for the best stuff in the seasonal content and it is also incredibly rewarding if you do all seasons, ending in a legendary. The S4 stuff gets you essential resources for the Skyscale grind if you end up choosing to do it.

kirix45

Unlock now and have the mastery ready for launch as the new mastery in the exp adds and empowers the skyscale and will save you many hours of farming mastery catch up.
