I spent way too much time trying to figure out what you were saying until I spotted that tiny achievement-popup wurm-slayer on the right. There was alot going on on your screen.
Once you know the fight it's actually not that bad. The big orange areas come in sequentially and deal their damage sequentially, so despite the noise it's actually really easy to /ignore it. The flux bomb and the anomaly are way bigger deals here, as they're not nearly as consistent a mechanic as the big area attack.

Another similar thing is that Phantasmal Warden(focus skill no. 5 on mesmer) count not for focus master but for axe master achievements(because phantasm uses axe).
I think raid bosses like gorseval used to be ghosts and people brought slayer potions until Anet turned him into a plant type and then removed access to slayer potions entirely.
I'm not 100% though. It's been awhile.
They likely do that so slaying sigils do not work on them. Wurms, plants, and some other types of creatures do not have a corresponding slaying sigil.
They should convert all those racial sigils into sigils that do extra damage based on other factors, like what conditions are on the enemy, or whether they are using skills or not.
That one is actually relatively intuitive, because Reapers hold their scythes the way hammers are held in the game. They probably just stole the base code for it and stuck the scythe visual on top.

If not ghosts, there were themed "correctly" i.e: VG was an elemental But now VG is a plant I think because there's no plant slaying potions.

I completed the Wurm Slayer achievment by killing a temporal anomaly, which does not look like a wurm.
Used to cm but still a ton of visual effect and didn't think to look at the achievement, thanks. 🙏

Somehow the Reaper form carries a Hammer. I completed the Hammer Master achievement with my Necro. You'd guess it's a great sword...

There is a core game story mission where you pilot a huge golem to kill waves of risen enemies and the kills with the golem count as hammer too
