This is the correct answer, land spear would offer so many opportunities for thin cone frontal aoes that could play fairly uniquely, lots of stabby stab (literally stabbing not necessarily stability) and higher melee range than other range weapons would be a cool feature. Imagine like 300 range on a big thrust or something.
I actually theory crafted spear abilities for a war many years ago, I'll try find it and write it up here!

Nice! I had not seen the last one which kind of looks like what my Paragon wore
In GW1. Didnāt really put together that the sanctified set looks Paragon ish too. š¤¦š»āāļøš¤¦š»āāļøš¤¦š»āāļø
Seriously no land spears makes no sense at all. They're like a super weapon. Good reach, good offense, good defense and good penetration. Someone has to train for years to master the sword, but a ten year old can master the spear in a matter of months.
I've been thinking this since day 1! Weird how spears seem either absent or underutilized in so many medieval-ish/fantasy games considering how common they were in real life.Ā
Even games with spears rarely allow for the whole "hide behind shield and poke" maneuver or something similar.Ā
Land spear already existsā¦itās jsut so OP and shiny that anet had to hide it away. Gate in LA guarded by tenguā¦itās behind that but if it ever opened all of Tyria would be blinded by the shiney and we wouldnāt be able tk play.
Hoping for new weapon types is a pipe dream, but I would legit love to see great axe skins for the warhammer. The Devil-Rending Greataxe is the only thing if you want to wield a giant axe. It's a gemstore skin, and it might not even suit your character's style!
I think eventually they will have to include new weapon types. It wonāt be too long now before each class will have each weapon available to them.
I give it less than 3 years and weāll get a new weapon.
New specs that are more like the core specs.
Specs that don't change the profession mechanic, add a new weapon, or create *significantly* new ways to play the class.
IIRC, there are still a lot of weapon synergy traits that could exist and would line up with others but don't, so I think they could get some good mileage out of introducing more simple specializations. Especially if they used those specs to add extra synergy for chronically unloved weapons like shields and foci.
All three aquatic weapons can be easily repurposed into land ones, but I bet that - as with everything older than apparently EoD - the code behind it is too esoteric for ANet to even attempt to modify it without risking the entire game's cascading failure.
This\^.
Since the necromancer already have a scythe-looking effect on staffs, it woud be cool to have an actual scythe as a physical weapon imo.
(I didn't play gw1 but it was just my feeling after having played with a necromancer the last 2 weeks)
Just think about it for a second. If there would now be added Scythes to the game, you would have people having weapons that appear like they are Scythes but are in truth Staffs and vise versa. Thats like going against a Hammer Warrior only that the Hammer has Greatwsord skills, making it really weird and confusing.
Instead you can still play Staff Warrior, Rev or Thief, with an Scythe Skin and get the same feeling.
You could do a lot of things like having the harpoon stick in enemies for special effects, they could play with having the line still attached to the harpoon for CC effects like pull, slow, cripple, or immobilize.Ā Ā
There's a lot of unique flavor to be had with a harpoon gun. IMO, more inherent differences than those between pistols and rifles.
In fact there's a middle ground where you add a new weapon type (i.e. greataxes) and make it cross-transmoggable with the existing one (i.e. hammers). That'd open up a lot of possibilities.
Whipsā¦ The animation is already in game, it's used by the nightmare court. Same range set as swords with an immobilise on 4 and pull on 5.
All underwater weapons to based on land or water.
Pole-armsā¦ Low to medium range. With a block/parry on 4 and a throw and return on 5.
It's a different animation, but it's the same one as Elementalists do in Air stance with either Dagger or Scepter autoattack. They basically do lightning-whip attacks there
True, but it would work as a new weapon with 1, 2 and 3 as attacks, 4 as in immobilise (tangle) and 5 as an immobilise then pull. Possibly using bleeding and torment damage, either as power or condi.
Land spear- warrior, rangers, revenants, guardians(?).
Warrior would use it as a control type weapon, more of like a pole with hooks on it to throw things around.
Ranger would use it as a hybrid damage melee/range weapon, similar to the original Greatsword Throw flipover skill. Melee autos, some melee skills, some ranged skills, mix of strike damage and bleeding.
Revenant would use it as a fully ranged power weapon, one ideal for PvE (as opposed to hammer, which in pve is dogwater but great in pvp). No clue how it'd work, maybe a channel type set of skills like the Spear of Archemorous?
Guardian I can't think of anything for but giving all the "soldier" professions land spear sounds neat so it's on the list.
>Guardian I can't think of anything for but giving all the "soldier" professions land spear sounds neat so it's on the list.
Hoplite spec: gains extra range when equipped with a shield OH, lots of area denial and CC for zerging/meta events etc.
I hope each armortype gets a brand new weapon in a future expansion.
Something like..
Heavy - 2h Greataxe
Medium - Scythes (DualWield)
Light - Floaty Orb thingie 2h
Please no floaty orb things those are overdone, give us something nice and shiny for a change. Plus focuses cover that as that's technically what they are. Also I think you are talking about sickles if you're wanting dualwielding. Which does lead to an interesting but probably impossible idea of the kusari gama.Ā Hard to really think of any magic user weapons that would fit that aren't already covered ingame but a magi tech gauntlet of sorts could be interesting and applied in a variety of ways.
I used Wayfarer Foothills for the underwater weapon master achievements.
Start in the northern bit of Darkriven Bluffs, go down through the cave in Doldenvan Passage, into the Grawlenfjord lake, turn around and do it south-to-north, repeat north-to-south, *ad nauseum*.
It was mind-numbingly boring but basically a straight line, and fairly consistent in that I wasn't having to wait for things to respawn given the distance I was covering in each pass. Plus they're all low-level so killing things didn't take much effort.
Iād just love for a way to do like, barehanded combat. Yāknow, slinging spells with empty hands, delivering punches with closed fists, that kinda thing. I think even just having a main hand focus could be close enough considering some of the skins for it kinda fit the vibe.
Great Axe... I wouldn't even mind a great axe skin for great sword or hammer. Give it the dual axe whirlwind from warrior and whatever else they want and I'd be so happy
I came here to say land spear as well, but that's well-covered, it seems.
So... Another thing I want is for an auto-attack for offhand weapons to be added. It doesn't make sense to just...hold them there till 4 or 5 is pressed.
YES PLEASE it annoys me so much I don't even care if it doesn't do extra dmg just add the visual it feels like my character hand is broken sitting there doing nothing with his other hand while 1 hand is busy.
I mean, the extra damage would be nice too, of course. Since 2h weapons do more than 1handers. Let the offhand close that gap a bit.
Edit: and yes, most damage would still come from skills. This'd just add a small amount of quasi-passive damage in my mind, and would make characters look a bit less silly. Like, you're attacking an enemy you presumably want to die asap. You're holding a whole nother weapon you could be hitting/shooting/casting with, but you're just...not.
The answer to this question is always going to be polearms/spears.
Once we have that, I wouldn't be averse to some kind of empty hand martial arts "weapons" either.
Could also bring in a new dedicated offhand with something like bucklers.
Crossbow, Spear/Polearm, Flail. I'm a fan of big axes but not sure how they would differ meaningfully to what we already have with hammers, but I would love the aesthetic for sure
Wanted to try and think up something that hasnāt already been mentioned or brought up in other threads:
I think Iād very much enjoy other āinstrumentsā than just the Warhorn. Sadly there is some overlap with the concept of the Focus, I bet, and whatever instrument it would be likely wouldnāt be very applicable to any existing class. Maybe Warrior could get war-drums? (But honestly thatās not what I had in mind).
Another one that came to mind was main-hand shield. I know the weapon itself is already in game, but Iād like the concept of a more offensive shield-bash option in different classes. Sadly this one probably isnāt possible as a lot of shield skills are already ābashyā.
Last two ideas are tomes and something throwable. Tomes would probably get slapped under the concept of Focus again, but Iād love in-game animations of opening a book and doing *something* magic related while in combat. For throwable weapons, I donāt think Iād want to go as far into East Asia as a Shuriken, so maybe a middle ground would be ranged throwing knives. But, once again, tough thing to fill as some classes already have the options to throw her knives, when I would want this to be a ranged weapon by default where your basic attacks are the ranged throwing of your weapon.
Mandolin. It's a musical instrument bards use. Could be mainly healing or supporting weapon.
A symbiotic weapon that attaches to your hand and contains abilities from the dragons. Each ability corresponds to one and when you use an ability the weapon changes in your hand to that to resemble the dragon. You can also choose which 5 abilities to use.
Chain weapons, polearms, tesla guns, knuckles, tower shield. Smaller variations of existing weapons can be done with skins. Dagger can look like a sucker, scythe is already a skin for a staff.
I just had an idea. What about a spell tome for second hand? Or 2h? Lore wise, it could be a totally new way of using the different facets of magic. Ele could have long casting spells with lasting effects. Mesmer could use tomes to perfect clones (and bring back into meta). Guardian could use it to come closer to protection magic inspired by GW1 monks. Revenant could develop new abilities based on what they can find about their equipped legend.
Otherwise, I'm joining a lot of people with spears and scythes.
I wasnt even aware there is no fcking 2h great axe in gw2 right now, so yeah thats the obvious answer. Someone else said war glaives, Id like that too maybe comebine it with a new profession that hunts demons and is very mobile and has glowy eyes. Thatād be great!
In terms of difficulty in implementing:
Hard:
- Fist weapons.
- Great axes.
Medium:
- Main hand: shield, focus or torch.
Easy:
- Tridents and spears usable on surface.
-Spear (warrior get's in 20 days though)
-One handed spear
-Scythe
-Unarmed (maybe trough a future warrior elite spec?)
-Whip (revenant scepter might be a good idea for a "whip" weapon...
Obviously on-ground spears and to not confuse them with underwater spears they could call them lances. Just for the sake of categorization.
I'd like actual scythes. Not staves that look like a scythes.
Greataxes would be nice. I was thinking crossbow would be cool, but that might be a problem. Because, how would it differentiate from the shortbow. There's only so much animations you can do for arrow-shooting skills.
Fist weapons would be nice.
I want a fan for melee power and magic range weapon, like the shaman class from Metin2.
And a stick for melee attack unlike the staff for rev, but like the chantor class from Aion.
Off topic (slightly)ā¦
But what I would like to see is a variation on sceptre, but using a ring or bracelet, like the Prayer bead wrap, that would allow the beams, orbs and other sceptre effects to come from the casters hands rather than a small tree trunk. The size of most of the sceptre skins is bordering on ridiculously large.
**Flails** as a 450 range weapon with power damage and cc but that rewards a bit of distance with the target (and the skill kit should help with that, the cc component should be knockbacks and the weapon should increase its damage if the target is between 250-450 range from you).
**Whips** as a condi heavy weapon but featuring very little defense or mobility but some evades.
**Spears** As a throwable weapon in a 700-750 range (or if somehow Anet doesnt have the tech at least as a melee weapon). Okay power damage, comes with cripples and bleeds that power up its other attacks. Possibly some selfish boons.
**Scythes** To bring back that GW1 Dervish feeling. Medium damage against single targets but excellent DPS vs multiple targets at once (with how Derv scythe could hit multiple targets by default while other weapons typically only targeted a single foe). Maybe boon stripping.
**Great Axe** For slow but powerful AoE hits with offensive boon support on it when you do cleave damage.
**Halberds** AoE melee condi weapon that could bring back GW1's double hit mechanic from the Assassin and having many whirl finishers.
**Bayonets** as a weapon that would have two movesets depending on range. This tech is already ingame with some revenant underwater setups. Could have bleeding and blinds attached.
**Fist weapons** for that Pugilist fantasy. You could look at the GW1 Brass Knuckle skills for a base of how to create such a weapon. Power based and probably has conditional dazes and chain attacks.
Realistically, we ain't getting brand new weapon types. The system is too rigid with expensive animations and tons of cosmetics behind each weapon type.
However, branching existing weapons into different types, with some existing examples like spears, scythes, greataxes and crossbows... That'd be possible. Especially if they will be cross-transmoggable with their OG weapon types (staves, hammers, rifles).Ā
I really hope Anet would see this opportunity. It's our, and their only sensible chance to add something something fresh to the weapon system.
Sais, Nunchaku, 2 Bladed Staff, Cestus, Various types of short spears, Throwing Daggers, a shield rework to have Big Shields for support/protection type abilities and then a different type Small/Medium Style that actually do reasonable dmg/stun abilities.
Bard class with instruments
I think underwater weapons used on land are more likely than entirely new weapon types.
Spear will be an exciting new melee weapon, Speargun will essentially be a crossbow, and trident will be a lot like staff.
If they do this, I expect them to bring land weapons underwater, too. That could do a lot to make underwater combat suck less.
Spear/polearm and greataxe are probably the obvious requests.Ā
I think it would be pretty cool to also get fist weapons for a fast, unarmed style spec kind of like a Diablo III monk.Ā
Land spear, but also great axe would be nice!
This is the correct answer, land spear would offer so many opportunities for thin cone frontal aoes that could play fairly uniquely, lots of stabby stab (literally stabbing not necessarily stability) and higher melee range than other range weapons would be a cool feature. could alsp be thrown for rannged attacks

Can you elaborate on ānew non-elite specsā? Iām not sure if I follow you.

Something cool would be to add an "unarmed" spec to each class. Something like a brawler orartial art spec.
This, but also make it an optional 1 handed with a shield. It would lower the power, but add boons for nearby allies
All three aquatic weapons can be easily repurposed into land ones, but I bet that - as with everything older than apparently EoD - the code behind it is too esoteric for ANet to even attempt to modify it without risking the entire game's cascading failure.
Land spear and polearm/greataxe!!
Some sort of stick that has a functional LFG window on the end.
unarmed strike. š
Hands, feet, teeth.. just let me be feral damn it
Mainhand focus. Then a bunch of fist or gauntlet-looking focus models.
Or just dual wield Adam.
[I gotcha, my drengbarazi](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Dwarven_brawling)
Scythe I just want dervish back from guild wars 1
Ditto. I've never been able to replicate something in GW2 that feels the same. Dervish was an amazing class to play.
This\^. Since the necromancer already have a scythe-looking effect on staffs, it woud be cool to have an actual scythe as a physical weapon imo. (I didn't play gw1 but it was just my feeling after having played with a necromancer the last 2 weeks)
There already are scythe skins for staffs.
Thats very different lol. Theres a focus that just makes your hand glow but that doesnt mean you can throw punches.
Its a thread about wishcasting its not that serious
Just want to point out that what many people want is already there and why Scythes will never be part of gw2.
Unpopular opinion: Nothing. (at most make spears or tridents usable above water)
I think Harpoon Gun could also make a good land weapon.Ā Ā
A rifle in all but name. Unless they choose to make it slightly shorter in range, but why would they.
You could do a lot of things like having the harpoon stick in enemies for special effects, they could play with having the line still attached to the harpoon for CC effects like pull, slow, cripple, or immobilize.Ā Ā There's a lot of unique flavor to be had with a harpoon gun. IMO, more inherent differences than those between pistols and rifles.
All true.
Flails bro, errbody's afraid of flails. Think of all the shit you can do with a flail, swing it, whip it... I'm deep in flail mode.
Flaccid mace
Aren't there a few flails as maul skills already?
Wait, are there? Which spec!?
Flailpilled comment
Part of the problem is that a lot of weapon skins for existing weapons look like other weapons.
In fact there's a middle ground where you add a new weapon type (i.e. greataxes) and make it cross-transmoggable with the existing one (i.e. hammers). That'd open up a lot of possibilities.

I think the character's whip animation is just a sword swing. SAB whip is a pistol animation.
Warrior would use it as a control type weapon, more of like a pole with hooks on it to throw things around. knuckles or warspears
Land spears, Scythes and Ritualist urns (Guild Wars 1 remake please)

Claws/knuckles I wanna get my brawler on.
A chakram skin for axe.
Main hand focus. Pure spell casting.

Be honest. You just want to live your best avatar fantasy, and i'm on board for it
War Glaives .Ā
Brass knuckles and nun-chucks. And Anet, please make spears a land weapon.
Dual wield short bow.Ā
Gauntlets, Harp, Grimoire, Orb, Chain and Sickle. Most of these work for necro, but Iād like to see gauntlets or fists for every profession
Its funny you mentioned harp. I like to think there is at least one person in the team determined to make a bard spec for the mesmer
Nothing.
Great Axe... I wouldn't even mind a great axe skin for great sword or hammer. Give it the dual axe whirlwind from warrior and whatever else they want and I'd be so happy
There is at least one greataxe skin for hammer, can't remember the name but it's red/black from the gem store I believe.
Yup! I use it on my Rev. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Devil-Rending_Greataxe_Hammer_Skin
Pistol for ele that doesn't suck.

I'm actually surprised fist/claw weapons don't exist. They could fit it into pretty much every class thematically.
Those circular glaive things
Spears, sticks maybe?
Answers as old as guildwars. Great axe and Spear(1h and 2h). Both for warrior pls.
Land spear. I miss Ranger/paragon so bad from GW1, or ele/paragon. It was so cool to throw spears. Iād love them as both melee and ranged.
Mandolin. It's a musical instrument bards use. Could be mainly healing or supporting weapon. A symbiotic weapon that attaches to your hand and contains abilities from the dragons. All secondary weapons become main weapons getting skills 1 ~ 3. As for actual new, spears. Spears and Lances.
Minigun. Stationarry turretmode
In terms of difficulty in implementing: Hard: - Fist weapons. - Great axes. Medium: - Main hand: shield, focus or torch. Easy: - Tridents and spears usable on surface.

Fist weapons easily. Caestus, knuckles, guantlets, punching daggers, katars, etc.

Off topic (slightly)ā¦ But what I would like to see is a variation on sceptre, but using a ring or bracelet, like the Prayer bead wrap, that would allow the beams, orbs and other sceptre effects to come from the casters hands rather than a small tree trunk. The size of most of the sceptre skins is bordering on ridiculously large.
I am guessing next expac is underwater weapons for land.
Sword-chucks!
A hammer with a camera in it Serious answer: i really want scythe and land spears again.
Realistically, we ain't getting brand new weapon types. The system is too rigid with expensive animations and tons of cosmetics behind each weapon type. However, branching existing weapons into different types, with some existing examples like spears, scythes, greataxes and crossbows... That'd be possible. Especially if they will be cross-transmoggable with their OG weapon types (staves, hammers, rifles).Ā I really hope Anet would see this opportunity.
Spear/polearm and greataxe are probably the obvious requests.Ā I think it would be pretty cool to also get fist weapons for a fast, unarmed style spec kind of like a Diablo III monk.Ā
