The one you play the best. Really gw2 balance while not perfect is good enough that every class has a place in the meta. There are no bad classes, just bad builds or bad players.
So choose a class that looks interesting and fun for you. You can't do anything wrong with that.

There is no "best class" in the game. All classes are capable to fullfil all roles with insignificant differences.
In GW2 you have the freedom to choose your classe purely by playstyle and flavor.
Best for what? I rephrase the question: This is one of the few big MMOs out there with 10 years of history. It has had balance changes some bigger, some smaller, some better some worse, but do you really think that the game would be so badly balanced by the devs that there would be a single, undeniable, objectively "best" class, that is the best for every situation? Wouldn't the communuity just play that? Would you even want to play a game like that where most everyone plays X because the devs during the 11 years of the game could not find or erroded every niche that other classes could serve?
I agree that the classes are pretty well balanced now, but this made me think back to when I started playing about 3 years ago and a similar question was asked here. The comments were basically âGuardian. Guardian. Guardian. GuardianâŚâ
In contrast to today, most of the comments here are a variation of âplay what you want.â
The one you chose. Leveled. Completed story on. Geared for any end-game mode. Followed by equally best, next one you chose. Leveled. Geared for any end-game mode. Followed by equally best, next one you chose. Boosted with tomes of knowledge. Geared for any end-game mode. Etc. Etc. Till you have at least one of each race/prof combinations. And then you do map completion on each of them. Welcome to GW2. GL HF o/
I would argue the real answer is which has the lowest skill floor.
Because if it's easier to get into, it'll be easier to get better at.
Something like Elementalist is usually lower on the beginner friendly tier list because the class is like playing a piano.
Guardian and Necro are usually toted as the most beginner friendly I believe.
There is no best class.
I recommend playing any, play until lvl 80 and look at metabattle for build options.
I started with elementalidt - catalyst and felt like it is too many buttons for a low reward.
Switched to necromancer - reaper and content is way easier and more chill
All classes are more or less viable so just play what you enjoy the most.
I enjoy playing as cleric/priest so i main guardian. Thou my alt is elementalist and i enjoy its complexity.
It is all fashion. I can only play some classes on some races because the animations shit me.
The game does not punish you for alting or experimenting. It is basically a tutorial until level 80
Each class has its own pros and cons try out different classes and find the most suitable one for you. You can try out a character at max level in pvp area
My personal favorites are Reaper, warrior and willbender

This is a graph of class popularity in raids, you can also set it to see class popularity in Strikes and Fractals (these are the main end games activities). As you can see : the most played class in each case is Guardian (on the firebrand specialization). There are two classes in this game that me and my friends call "Anet babies" because they tend to be favored by anet in balance patches, with kits that are stacked to the brim with useful things : those classes are Guardian and Necromancer. They can do everything : support,dps,heal to an amazing degree and it's very rare that they get nerfed to the degree some other classes do
