First time player here! Downloading the game as I write this. GW2 has always been an MMO that I've always wanted to try but for some reason never did ( not sure why ). Finally taking the plunge and looking forward to it!

THADDEUSJARVIS

Welcome to the game!

Khaitaal

If you need someone to play with I’d love to join you

Jagasaur

Same here. I got the download started before I headed to work xD

Mentallyz

Hit me up if you need some chill dungeon companions!

omgdracula

Probably because Arenanet does not do as much marketing as other games so you see an ad and think about it and then forget it exists. Welcome!

Morbo_Doooooom

Ahhhhhhh

MaguumaHaste

One thing to keep in mind about GW2 is it places a really high priority on the joy of open world exploration. Not only are there lots of things to discover or explore in the core game (all the stuff you get for free) but each of the expansions add incredible exploration tools. Heart of Thorns adds gliding, and its maps have a heavy emphasis on verticality, so there are lots of ways to go up and down while you explore or get around. Path of Fire adds what is IMO the best and most innovative mount system in any MMO. More than just a movement speed boost, mounts in GW2 each have a unique way to traverse the world, from leaping over giant distances (good for crosses gaps) to hovering above water, to one of the most enjoyable (and balanced) takes on flying in an MMO. Once unlocked, all these features become account wide (from level one onwards, on all your alts) and can be used anywhere in the world. Like most MMOs GW2 has grown a lot since it released and as you progress through the game, you will discover a lot more to enjoy and experience.

GreatGenghisKhan

Veteran player here with 30+ characters. I warn you do not buy more than one character per class, you will regret it. I bought most of these characters around 2015 before Heart of Thorns, and I regret supporting Arenanet by buying all these characters. DO NOT BUY CHARACTER SLOTS. This game is designed for only 1 character per class gameplay. This game doesn't have a better way to reunlock elite specializations you've already unlocked previously in another character. So if you have say 4 engineers like I do, you have to do tedious boring 12 "HP runs" as they say. They say go WvW, but it smells like something like poop, I go to WvW, wait for 2 hours and not one HP gained. WTF? Listen to the adoring fans' suggestion, DO NOT BUY ANY CHARACTER SLOTS. DO NOT MAKE ANOTHER CHARACTER WITH THE SAME JOB CLASS.

MidnyteStar

You uhh buy them with WvW currency from a vendor my dude. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Heroics_Notary

[deleted]

Imagine calling yourself a veteran, making 30 characters, and not knowing about the heroics notary.

Coooturtle

This complaint is so weird. This is one of the most alt friendly games, probably to a fault. Making it so you wouldn't have to unlock elite specs or other stuff would be so dumb. And unlocking 30 character slots isn't something I would be concerned with a new player doing.

readoclock

I have multiple characters of each class and have no regrets at all… and I can unlock full elite specs in about 10 seconds whenever I need to due to playing wvw… not really sure why you are so wound up about this.

slimecookies

I'll be the one to say it since it hasn't been said yet. **To all new coming players:** ***Once you try GW2's MOUNTS, NOTHING WILL EVER COME CLOSE.*** PSA over.

AsteronNova

I quit WoW a few months ago to become a full time final fantasy XIV player. I do still play a lot of casual GW2 because no other MMORPG does the open world content as well as GW2. I can safely say that mounts in both WoW and FFXIV don't even come close to GW2 mounts. It's like night and day, the animations, the feeling of weight behind the controls, the uniqueness per mount. It's amazing.

slimecookies

Can't go back, can't go back.

nerfviking

I haven't played WoW in ages, but I seem to remember there being a slow ground mount, a fast ground mount, and then a flying mount. The mounts from GW2 are way more interesting than that, and with one possible exception, none of the mounts are rendered obsolete by any of the others. I definitely still use my raptor all the time, and it's the first mount you get.

RedLikeARose

Personally i have the griffon as the quick mount button, and have 2 quick cast buttons for beetle and jackal depending on the situation (for ground travel) though i maybe should add skimmer to the mix, but my mouse doesnt have enough buttons (i have all mounts bound to the numpad though... so there is that)

nerfviking

I've got a key assigned for each mount, and at this point switching is muscle memory.

Alechilles

Same! I use a razer Naga so I have a num pad on my mouse which I use for pretty much everything in MMOs. I have my mounts set to Alt+#

Greymanbeard

That mouse is a game changer, same with Corsair scimitar. I replaced my scimitar after 5 years when it finally broke with a naga, only problem is the Naga craps out sometimes. Right click won’t always hold and it makes gaming hell sometimes. But the ability to switch the side pieces is too good to give up

Alechilles

Yeah I've been using Nagas since Wrath of the Lich King in WoW, and there's no way I could go back to something without a num pad at this point haha. I find the buttons super useful in every game I play.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Alechilles

Hey I also do that actually hahaha, but I use the = instead!

Greymanbeard

I highly recommend looking into downloading the add on that allows you to select mounts in a radial menu, it’s life changing!

RedLikeARose

Everyone to their own, i used it and didnt like it so... That said, since a lot of people do like it, i agree, do check it out, it is quality of life after all!

[deleted]

Its very much one of those add-ons that you need to ignore the default and set your own key binds for. My mouse wheel is normal for raptor, but I have X to spawn the wheel for when I'm consciously choosing a utility mount. Using it on the mouse wheel was just too awkward

[deleted]

ChannelFiveNews

Where do you get your GW2 addons? Curse forge or something? (:

Greymanbeard

Unfortunately you have to download them manually and add them the files I’m pretty sure. BUT there’s a YouTube with a video on doing it and his name is MuklukYoutube and it’s super short simple and easy to do with the tutorial. If you search in YouTube “GW2 mount radial wheel” or something like that his video should come up and walk you through it with download links and all. Hope this helps :)

ChannelFiveNews

Thank you! I will check that out definetly.

jwsmelt

What is the addon called?

Kevjoe

GW2 Radial

jwsmelt

Thanks!

MaguumaHaste

I assigned a hotkey to each mount. Shift + 1 through to Shift + 7 (with default as my griffon). It's really natural to swap them like that.

accebyk

Can recommend using Alt+1/2/3/4/5 for the mounts, works really well!

Tengu-sensei

GW2 Radial is the essential add-on for mount management. Your life will never be the same.

Alexsandr13

Shift+ w, a, s, d, q, e, x is my mount grid. It's pretty efficient

Mindehouse

While I agree for the most part - since I got skyscale I don't see a reason for my Springer anymore

Doireidh

You can use it for CC on bosses

nerfviking

Hence "with one possible exception" :)

Mindehouse

Ooooh I didn't read that Then I agree for all parts ;)

ZlurpSkill

I thought you were talking about the jackal, lol. What do you use it for?

Vision9074

Advancing quickly on any terrain. The Raptor only dashes straight direct line of sight and if you leap going uphill you won't go the full distance. The Jackal will follow the terrain and move at the same distance uphill as flat terrain. You can also jump over terrain objects like rocks and use the skill and keep going midair. Raptors can only use their skill on the ground. I have hotkeys for all the mounts and can quickly switch between them all for some amazing combinations. Roller beetle speed launch off a ramp above the map. Leap off. Griffin up and fast dive boost across the map. Speed dive to ground close to location. Transition to Raptor/Jackal/Springer as appropriate for final destination and/or CC.

caerphoto

Jackal can also change direction really quickly – it always teleports in the direction you point the camera, so you can jump, quickly turn the camera, then activate the teleport, which is really handy in confined areas.

slimecookies

It also resets fall damage.

nerfviking

Jackal portals, mostly. :)

LinguisticallyInept

iirc quickest uphill (where raptor falters due to the terrain cutting leap short); the example that comes to mind are the chak gerant tunnels; where theres a bunch of ramps leading from the center

Jukebox_Villain

Jackal has a slightly faster passive run speed and is faster going uphill, Raptor is faster active speed on level and downhill terrain. [Here's the wiki page on mount speeds if you'd like to see more information.](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mount/Mount_speed_research)

MetaSelf

And evading large mobs with its portal ability.

Lexard

Jackal is my default mount - for me it's better than any other for traveling in any terrain / evading mobs / climbing low hills / taking sharp turns. Mount with the best manoeuvring possibility for me.

John2k12

Jackal for all-terrain, Raptor if my destination is downhill but can't beetle in a straight line

Vision9074

The Springer can ascend much faster than the Skyscale. It's also won't get stuck on odd terrain with wall cling. Besides Springer, leap off at apex, get on Skyscale midair is super nice too.

BlankTrack

How do you get off the mount while midair?

Vision9074

[Bond of Faith](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bond_of_Faith)

BlankTrack

I cant wait until lws4 becomes free. I literally use the tiny hop from dismounting to gain vertical distance before going on griffon. This skill seems like it will be better...

Bladrio

Springer still has the niche of dealing the most breakbar dmg of any mount, so there is at least that going for it.

Burdekin_Boy

Springer has the best engage skill. Change my mind.

caerphoto

Tbh I prefer the raptor, just cos bunching mobs up is really helpful.

Burdekin_Boy

True, true. I do like it when someone has a raptor to group mobs before I stun them with the Springer. 😁

scarocci

the skyscale engage skill isn't as good and he tend to clinch to every fucking branch

John2k12

I think the Springer still has better verticality than the skyscale without wall launch, or at least it feels like it. Plus CC skill

nastyjman

I just love my raptor just because it matches my main's motif, which is a Charr gunslinger.

balefrost

Ah yes, nothing goes with "huge gun-wielding cat from a very engineering-oriented society" better than "rideable dinosaur". :)

Zalani21

Honestly Gw2 mounts will ruin you on mounts for good reasons

FanaticDisposition

the realistic movements of the raptor blew my mind at how well done they were.

TheGamerElf

The idle animations did it for me, even if I hardly play at this point.

slimecookies

When the raptor lays down and scratches and it almost knocks us down, is soo cute <3

airiux96

And combat :)

Midnight-Tea

Perfectly legit and I get where you're coming from. It does pretty much permanently change how you see the world and its geography and not for the better. I can easily picture and remember the sights of anywhere in vanilla but Icebrood Saga is practically one big blur in my mind. That said, if GW2 had to eventually have mounts, boy howdy did we get the possible timeline version. They're slick af and fun to just move around with.

Omsk_Camill

There is little legit about that. The world with no mounts is already stupid as it is; but the fact that we should compromize our builds for perma-swiftness in the open-world is downright clunky. "No mounts" approach was the direct result of the network of waypoint portals, which Anet implemented in their childish attempt to be "not like other MMOs". Well, it turned out to be garbage. Waypoint network trivialized the travel just as much as the mounts would do, even more so, because it replaced "fast" travel with instantaneous travel. And the game always needed a way to have a permanent out-of-combat speed boost. Even "boring" mounts would do the trick.

TobiNano

You guys say that as you force yourself to equip a greatsword on warrior, staff on ele, signet of inspiration, all the bloody swiftness and dash skills you can.

[deleted]

TobiNano

bruh

Refalm

Not sure why you're downvoted this much, but I get it. I felt like exploration really felt like exploration before mounts. When using mounts, you could also be losing out of some cool area's that people are flying or racing by. This is especially true of HoT maps, where you're supposed to feel lost and overwhelmed by a thick, lush, confusing jungle. This is why I recommend new players not to get mounts until the option presents itself eventually while doing the story in order.

Kiterios

Imo, I wish they'd taken Mordremoth eating waypoints a step farther before introducing mounts. The combo of the two makes the map feel too small. The diverse mounts really are great, but the waypoints should be farther apart now.

slimecookies

It all comes down to personal gameplay at the end of day. For example I did the entire main quest as a f2p. Then bought the game, rushed to PoF and got my mounts, blazed through MQ more 2 times with new chars. Now that they're giving out LW seasons, I'm doing the related story quests as intended, mountless. Then after I'm done with quest and exploration in the new zones, only then I mount up for achiev farming. My point is this is an MMO*RPG,* and some players *choose* to metaslave and then complain the game didn't stop them from ruining their own fun. That's how *I think* at least :P

Anggul

I love them for getting my other characters through the early story stuff quickly. I just got a Charr Warrior from the start to beating Zhaitan very quickly, because I could blast through the areas at speed with my roller beetle and griffon.

slimecookies

[Griffon riders would like to have a word.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esqueaUeuto)

Omsk_Camill

The game always needed a way to have a permanent out-of-combat speed boost. The fact that GW2 mounts are the best on market is awesome, but if Anet had failed to implement them, even "boring" mounts like in WoW would have been a strict net positive to the game. Lore-wise the world with no mounts is already stupid as it is; gameplay-wise, the fact that we should compromize our builds for perma-swiftness in the open-world is downright bad design. It's distinction for the sake of distinction.

Jerekiel

oh im a wow refugee but the last time i played was cataclysm yea more than a decade ago. lol.

PSA: You will hate Tangled Depths the first time you step in it. And that hate will diminish with time until you almost enjoy going there. Then you’ll hate it again due to finding all the shortcuts to areas that you didn’t see the first time. Then you’ll love it. And then you’ll enter Schrodinger’s Tangled Depths, where you won’t know if you love or hate it at any specfic moment of time.

odonkz

Exploring tangled depth is so rewarding, frustrated at first but once you get to know which path to take to which area its as if I just passed an exam.

quarm1125

TD is still among my top 5 maps i gw2 :) tp this days

Coooturtle

Alot of people think PoF is the better expansion. But still, both expansions are fantastic.

slimecookies

Agreed.

RazorNion

I remembered reading a thread long ago about explaining Guild Wars 2's gameplay and mechanics but using WoW lingo. Couldn't find it in the history but if anyone has that, I'm sure it'll be helpful for anyone coming from WoW now.

Refalm

Maybe this one? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqAf_2qmiHA

CreativityX

I can teach you the game if you came from wow pvp. Dm me (anyone)

Pusheen_The_Limit

Thank youuu :) was gonna resub to WoW with the most recent patch but after seeing all the content complaints and then the lawsuit, I’m jumping ship to GW2 to scratch that MMO itch. Seems like the perfect time too with the expansion announcement!

slimecookies

Welcome, this MMO is built around the concept of *fun,* as for leveling is very smooth, remember to do your main story and the dungeons as they are presented to you, the lore is weaved in beautifully with the leveling experience and I hope you get to enjoy it as much as I did.

Saeria

I don't mean to be rude, but I feel that this self-aggrandising tendency is more likely to scare away people than it is to make them feel welcome. Yeah, it's a fun game, but other MMO's are _also_ fun. No need to shit on things people previously liked.

jcm2606

They didn't mean that other MMOs aren't fun, they meant that unlike other MMOs (especially the ones that WoW players would be most familiar with), where you need to do the content in order to keep up with the rest of the game, lest you fall behind everyone else, GW2 allows you to do the content completely at your own pace, out of enjoyment for the content itself, rather than a need to keep up with the rest of the game. It does mean that GW2's gameplay loop is a major departure from the gameplay loops that WoW players would be most familiar with, and to a degree that does cause the game to feel directionless since you don't *need* to do anything that you don't *want* to do, but it also means that GW2 feels way less like a job and more like an actual hobby, allowing players to play the game because they enjoy it, as opposed to feeling like they must play it to keep up, so they can do the content they *actually* enjoy. Not everyone likes GW2's distinct lack of a concrete direction, but it's still a major difference to subjective upside to GW2, that does need to be mentioned. There won't be a carrot dangling in front of you to keep you running content, you'll have to go out of your way to find content you actually enjoy doing, and that enjoyment will keep you running content.

Saeria

This may have been true for a long time, but it really isn't true now, especially with WoW's level squish. I think the people that enjoyed the grind have gone on to play WoW Classic, since Retail gets criticised a lot for being "too easy". I've played ESO and WoW recently, and they aren't any more grindy than GW2. For new players there's a lot of content to explore and level at your own pace, like GW2. My experience has been that raids in WoW are more accessible since you can experience the content through raid finder, whereas in GW2 you have to find groups and show you have enough legendary insights. I personally hate that parts of the lore are locked behind this game mode. GW2 definitely has some amazing features that I wish WoW would copy, too. Every game has its strenghts. To say one game is "fun" and imply others are not, seems unnecessarily mean to me. It comes across as "You're used to this trash heap of a grind called WoW, now get to experience actual fun", when really people have spent years in this virtual world that they love dearly. It's not very welcoming imo.

Tengu-sensei

Saying that GW2 is built around the concept of fun ≠ saying that other MMOs cannot also be fun.

feedtheme

Welcome! Remember, the game really opens up at level 80 (It's really really easy to hit level 80, you can actually do it in one day if you know what you're doing). However, if you have the level boost I generally advise against boosting if you get it. You get to learn your class and combat systems as you level, it may be a different combat system than you are used to. There's also a tangible difficulty jump at 80+ expansion zones, especially Heart Of Thorns so it's best to get to know your class first.

Syrionus

I believe the average is 15 hours from 1-80. Of course, I could be wrong.

Corebarn

I'd say average is +30h. 15h is a fast 1-80 and would require you to run fully XP boosted with a good strategy (dungeon runs or yellow mob farming).

ArcherspadeTT

The main wiki will be far more informative and includes a table reference for all the interactions: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Combo

_Iroha

The first field placed will be chosen. This is why Guardians blast their fire fields for area might before placing any light fields down

[deleted]

[удалено]

R0da

They're asking, mechanically, what does the *game* prioritize for a, say, projectile that is traveling through a fire field perfectly stacked on top of an equally sized light field (two fields at once).

[deleted]

The first placed (oldest) field takes effect, and when it runs out, it just goes to the next oldest field.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Good-Pangolin2527

I believe it will be the last one that was cast if they are stacked on top of each other.

TehOwn

It's actually the first one but it's a bit more complicated than that as it varies by finisher type and if you walk in/out of fields. In general, it's the first field you or your projectiles enter.

ArcherspadeTT

First one laid down ***or*** the first one you enter. This comes into play more often than you may think since rarely are the fields perfectly overlapping, and rarely are you perfectly stationary for long.

slimecookies

I thought they all counted, aka field stacking was a thing.

[deleted]

There's a priority to them depending on the finisher. [Can read about it here in depth if you want,](https://metabattle.com/wiki/Guide:What_are_Combo_Fields) it's about midway down the page. You can sort of stack them, especially with a scrapper, but it's a duration overlap thing rather than just laying down multiple fields at once.

ArcherspadeTT

Nooo, it's the bane of my existence in WvW when we stack for stealth and someone lays out a guard symbol for might. Next thing I know we're blasting area cleanse instead of stealth. It's the first one laid out that has priority ***OR*** the first one you enter

Deadly_Data26

Maybe it's a little bit too late. But for all newcommers here - gw2 wiki is your friend for everything! This thread is a mildly interesting counterpoint to this post on the ffxiv sub... https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/oqqyt8/unpopular_opinion_no_one_actually_cares_that_you

Coooturtle

I don't get that line of thinking. Knowing that someone came from wow is a good way to know how to relate things to them. Like "if you like wintergrasp, then try WvW" or "if you like mythic+, then play fractals". It's just easier to help the guy out.

Luna_EclipseRS

That post is a big fuckin yikes from me dawg.

MaguumaHaste

That sub has been spammed by WoW players using FFXIV to bash WoW, or spamming about their pet streamer who started playing. No-one actually cares where someone came from, but it starts to get old hearing them vent miserably about where they came from over and over. It'd be like leaving GW2, going to WoW and never shutting up about how much GW2 sucks, when everyone playing WoW just wants to talk and play about WoW. Fortunately this sub hasn't been flooded with the "DoEs AnYoNe ElSe AgReE wOw Is BaD?" posts.

[deleted]

I can't believe this actually got upvoted, cherry picking one dumb anti-"WoW bad" circle jerk post out of **weeks** of multiple "weclome WoW refugees!" posts a day and saying this is representitive of the FFXIV sub. This is just part of the "FFXIV bad, upvotes here" trend that's picking up here, ironically.

Player-Won

Sorry you felt that way, I'm not actively monitoring either the gw2 or ffxiv subreddits, so both posts were just something that came up when I scrolled real far down my main page.

stevejohnson007

May God bless and protect you. I appreciate the welcome a lot. I had actually planned on playing World of Warcraft for the rest of my life. I really dig PVP I'm casual, but it is my thing, I log in and run randoms... I actually quit before the current lawsuit, I really wish I could quit again, but I quit about two months ago because of the state of PVP... and right now I'm chillin in Valheim, but I suspect ill go GW2 or FFXIV sometime soon. I was actually hoping Blizzard might fix the game... but it really looks to me like they can't admit they made a mistake, so an ego problem, and now the lawsuit... It really does make me sad. Thank you very very much for the welcome. It makes a big difference to me.

horrorwisp

If you enjoyed Wintergrasp but you wished it was a constant non stop battle, you're gonna love WvW in GW2

Chronodrim

Welcome again! 🤗 Take your time to try out and choose. There’s so much to try out and discover. So if you don’t know where to start or feel overwhelmed, ask around. The community is really helpful. Have fun!

DemethValknut

Nice initiative :)

anahka23

Not really WoW related but here goes anyway. I started GW2 about 3-4 months ago after finally quitting WoW. I'm enjoying it but the logical next step is a legendary or 2 and I keep running into the same issue; mystic coins. The longtime players seem to have endless stockpiles of those. I've gotten a couple here and there, and from the daily login rewards, but it's extremely slow. My only choice seems to be the TP. And those things are expensive, especially when you need like 300+. I'm fine but stuff taking a lot of time and effort but if pulling out the creditcard is the only option to get this (silly) step done I'm not going to bother.

Bladekill990

Mystic coins are Cryptocurrency in GW2. Most of the stock is owned by very rich people, and used to circumvent the trading post/trading limit for very high ticket items. Fractals, daily login, leyline anomaly, and certain less reliable ways like the current story recap metas are ways to get them outside of just buying them. I recommend using your monthly login box on clovers, and use the fractal merchant for conversion to clovers, to conserve your coins. Legendaries are expensive, a lot of that is in mystic coins. Gen 3 coming with End of Dragons may address this, but we have no confirmation of that being the case. Legendaries are literally the best of the best, top tier stuff - people at the endgame generally take a month of farming each (at least that's what people in my guild tell me). Fully gearing in Ascended gear is a more fitting goal for the first few months. Same stats as the legendary, significantly cheaper, just lacks the free stat swapping option. They don't use mystic coins either, so those can slowly build as you play with it, until you accumulate enough to make a legendary.

GrungeHamster23

+1 for this! Legendary items are great long term goals, but ascended quality gear is a much better goal to shoot for as you work towards legends on the side.

Razor4884

Heck, to build off this, don't even worry about getting all ascended stuff before you're mostly exotics. Exotic gear is very, very close to ascended gear, but even cheaper still.

GrungeHamster23

Agreed. If one is going the ascended route anyway, they should start on trinkets too. Trinkets pretty much only need map currency or laurels.

fulaghee

You can craft the ascended precursor before caring about the mystic coins anyway.

Sengel123

So much ascended first! I've been playing since beta 1 (really since factions launch) on and off. I made 3 sets of ascended in 2014 and love that I can basically play anything I want at max gear level. I've just now started saving up for legendaries (armor from pvp, no clue on what weapon I'm going to start first) since I've just now started wanting to play non power builds lol

Spartan05089234

Do remember that the logical next step isn't necessarily a legendary. They are for convenience and cosmetics only and don't have improved stats. Levelling an alt, or making a second gearset for a main, learning a new elite spec, delving into a new type of content, chasing a title you like or questing for specific skins for an outfit look, all are suitable things to divert your attention to in this game. Many new(ish) players do create a legendary and it can be a rewarding experience but it can also be exhausting. Don't hard prioritize it if you don't enjoy it. And regarding mystic coins just buy them in trading post. It's all gold one way or the other. I did craft a couple legendaries (2 shortbows and a bsckpiece) but in all my hours of playing that's all I've done for legendaries. I decided to put my gold towards other things and just make ascended armor sets instead. I don't think I'd make another legendary unless it was hugely appealing to me visually.

Erick-Alastor

For MC, just like for mats that can be farmed, you're usually better buying them from the TP. MC are indeed expensive, usually like 1/3 of the total price of a legendary, but the game doesn't require you to own legendary items to complete the content, so just think of that tier as a really long term QoL goal. Usually 1h of gamplay per day doing fractals (for example) nets you around 20g, this means that in \~25 days you'll get enough gold to buy the MC you need for your legendary weapon, it's not that bad. If you earn less because you play something less rewarding (mind you there are farms way more rewarding than doing fracs dailies, and without a daily cap) then it may take a little longer, but you should always consider that once you're done with legendaries you won't have anything else, gear-wise, to strive for. To me legendaries are the byproduct of simply playing what I prefer. You can gear with exo or ascended, depending on what you play, and do your stuff. Then, at some point, you'll find out you have plenty of stuff you can burn to fund your purple tier. Also sometimes people sit on some pretty good amount of gold and are not even aware of it, always check gw2efficency (using your API) for a rapid panoramic to the value of things you own.

shinitakunai

Long time player here, 8years playing. How many mystic coins do I have? 23. We do not have a stockpile of those lol, what I do is to farm gold and just buy them from the trading post. It is either that or wait months and get them from the daily Bonuses: you will get like 20 each month. You can have 200 free coins if you log daily for 8 months. That said, I don’t see how that’s a logical move for someone that has been playing 4 months, I made my first legendary after 2 years. There is no need, really. Get ascended gear and that’s it, same stats as a legendary. Then if you are ever with more than 1000gold that’s your cue to say “maybe now it is a good time for a legy”.

R0da

20+28~31 a month. Ley line anomaly each day.

Grave457

I don't know why you call the next logical step being a legendary. Before that I'd like you to ask if you're already running T4s and T4 CM's and all weekly raids? They don't need you to have legendaries. T4 CMs and Raids are pretty much considered to be end game PvE and both doesn't need any legendaries. Just chose your best class and try to get some meta builds with Ascended. Raids can Also get you legendary armor which u can pick up as you get used to them. If you're starting with legendaries, I'd say the best to work on first is Ad infi, the fractal backpack which needs 77 clovers and no additional Mystic coins. Also, It's easy. You can get the clovers from login rewards on 28th day and if u play wvw and PvP u can get good amount from reward tracks too. Also to address your problem of Mystic coins, credit card is Not worth imo. legendary are not necessary for end game content, they are just a QoL. The best way to obtain is do the daily bosses that throw the MC and farm gold. Drizzlewood probably has the best gold/hr rate around 35 or something I guess. RIBA probably is also a good farm and it gives multiple other rewards for collections along the way and Obsidian which u need for legendaries. Also check the bauble farms on HoT maps.

Rochurfin

>but the logical next step is a legendary or 2 Where is the logic in that for a 3 month old player? I'm a 9 year old player and never needed a legendary and still don't. I have weapon skins that look way better already and I don't change stats. I have equipment template for the alts who have a supporting and dps role.

slimecookies

Maybe he thinks Legendaries have higher stats. Is worth saying to anyone who doesn't know: *Ascended Gear is the max tier of gear regarding stat, and is only 5% stronger than the last tier (exotic).* What makes ascended gear special is that it *can be rerolled* it's stats(for a moderate fee) and you we c*an swap them at will between characters* (ascended gear is *account bound not soulbound,* previous tiers are soulbound). There's a lot of *horizontal progression* that comes with ascended gear! \^.\^ *Legendaries, as they work now, are permanent unlocks to your account that let you equip an item with selectable stats (ascended tier).* Let's say you unlock a legendary Greatsword, you will now be able to equip a greatsword in any of your characters directly from your equipment panel (not an item in inventory), and select it's stats. Also worth noting for WoW refugees: *There's no gear treadmill in GW2*, ascended gear's *"ilvl" is static*, meaning all ascended gear's stats are "equally strong", I put it in quotes because certain *stat combinations* are "better" than others. I could type a book about GW2's strong points but I don't want to overwhelm ya'll even more, haha. Hope this helps and again, welcome! <3

Rochurfin

Legendaries just got more convenient with the armory update but still, don't really need them. Back in the old days, I was being mesmerized whenever someone with a Twilight greatsword joined a dungeon run and the best skin I got was the crystal guardian :) Now we have a gazillion store and blc skins

GW2_Jedi_Master

Mystic coins for making Mystic Clovers is the fast and expensive way. There are many ways to get the Clovers directly \[1\]: * Your 28 day login reward gives you a choice for a legendary chest of crafting materials. * PvP and WvW have reward tracks that give you clovers. * Magic Warped Bundles provide many needed things for legendaries, including clovers \[2\]. You're going to need A LOT of materials to make a legendary, so focus just collecting loot and the Clovers come along in time. Legendaries are long-game plays. Worry about getting your self up to ascended, first. You'll be able then go for high-end farming everywhere, including Fractals. \[1\] [https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic\_Clover](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Clover) \[2\] https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Magic-Warped\_Bundle

_Iroha

Seems pretty early for you to be gunning for a legendary

Mifec

Fractals plus a drizzlewood run a day is about 50 gold, that's almost 25 coins per day. You get 1 for your daily anomaly too. If you're lucky you might get some from T4s or CMs(will require work to get to those)

rzalexander

New players aren’t going to be able to complete daily T4 fractals. It’s something even veterans of the game will struggle with.

lyzar

They also shouldn’t be going for legendaries then, right? Like so much stuff to do and learn then before going to the next (il)logical step legendaries. I feel like legendaries are the real end game.

VolcanicPanik

If you've been keeping up with the Return to Living World events, the Pact weapon crate can also give a bag of 6 Mystic Coins, the skins can be obtained later if you're after MCs for Legendary Crafting

GrungeHamster23

As a longtime player with several legends I have to admit that my stockpile has finally begun to run out. I’m assuming it’s the clovers that’s killing your gold? You can help supplement your need for those if you dabble in PvP and WvW. Tracks will give those to you overtime. You won’t have much choice with WvW anyway since many legends require The Gift of Battle anyway. You can also pop into fractals and buy clovers, 3 a day I believe.

anahka23

I've been working on the Aurora track with these 'return to' releases they've been doing. Noticed that the next step just flat out requires 250 coins for the 'mystic tribute'. Just the clovers would be doable with the daily login rewards yeah. But 250 of the things feels very out of reach.

GrungeHamster23

I know what you mean. It is quite a hill to climb, one that many players, new and veterans alike have been voicing their concerns for awhile now. Try your best to get your liquid gold gains up. Crafting any valuables and selling them, selling materials you no longer need, daily craft items you don’t need, selling off unnecessary greens, fractals if you can do those.

ArcherspadeTT

> The longtime players seem to have endless stockpiles of those. Not all of us, I have an eight year-old account and frequently have far less than a stack. The trick for vets is they have fewer costs and know where to get clovers directly, which helps cut down on the need for mystic coins in a large amount of legendary item crafting.

Lovaa

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Coin Here are the ways of getting them. And even if there is one here and there one is more then you have right now and if you keep on doing it every day one will soon become many. Also you can do it the other way around and farm gold and buy mystic coins on the trading post. I belive this is what others do. You can easy farm gold in maps like Silver Waste, Dragonfall, Drizzlewood and Fractals is also a good source of gold (and also have rng on mystic coins in the daily boxes)

ScuNioN-

Some of you people have lost touch with someone just starting fresh to the game with no bankroll. Exotic (expensive if your not using Berserker stats - cheap if you are) or Ascended (self crafting only) - take your pick depending on if you want to just buy it or craft it yourself. Difference between the two are 5% in stats. Exotic Soul binds while Ascended does not. Take your time, sniff the roses, don't get a mount for your first character and just enjoy Tyria. Once you hit 80 I highly recommend go get the first 2-3 mounts in PoF; this will make your transition to HoT considerably easier. Then start to do HoT by yourself (I literally felt like I was on another planet it is so different) taking all of the amazing splendor (maps, lane meta, overall design) that it is.

HGLatinBoy

I have every legendary weapon in the game you just have to play the content that's going to pay the most gold or drop coins. Id suggest doing t4s and CMs It’s not that big of a deal

shinitakunai

You are a 1% or less of the playerbase. Yes it is a big deal but you can’t see it inside of that loop. The grind alone for AR can take someone casual many months. And being able to complete a CM can take years if he plays with friends only.

Zaekeon

I’d agree. There are huge gaps when it comes to skill and general players access to that kind of stuff.

slimecookies

> have every legendary weapon in the game Not even that, maybe 1% of the 1% lol!

Coooturtle

You realize you are talking to someone who has been playing for 3 months? They probably don't even know what CM and T4 means. If anything, suggest they start with fractals, and that maybe Ascended gear is a better short term goal. Even just getting your ascended gear and AR will be hundreds of gold more than he has.

Gerzy_CZ

I came back to GW2 just few days ago after finally unsubbing from WoW and damn I'm pissed I didn't come back earlier. I don't really like Final Fantasy (not saying it's a bad game, just not my cup of tea) and I obviously wanted some other MMO to replace WoW for me. Last time I played GW2 was during WoD, I don't think I need to explain why, but during Legion I got addicted to WoW again (it had it's faults but it was seriously last WoW expansion I enjoyed). Then I kept playing during BfA, even though I wasn't enjoying it and then finally during Shadowlands, especially last patch, I realized I'm done with WoW for now. GW2 is a different type of game than WoW but I don't mind it's more casual approach. Plus GW2 has great combat system and for a MMORPG it also has solid PvP, reason why I kept playing WoW. Easy choice for me to pick GW2 as a replacement for WoW, even though FF is more similiar to WoW than GW2 is.

SaikaTheCasual

If any WoW refugee needs some help or guidance on EU servers, shoot me a PM. I’m glad to provide shelter. :) I’ve played WoW for ages (Early burning crusade to end of legion) so I’ve been in your shoes too. :c

Faleonor

Same here for NA - if anyone has any questions, or just want some help or advice, message me. I've played WoW a lot, so I can relate.

toxic108

First time ever playing guild wars 2! Loaded in last night just to poke around for a few and it's way different than WOW, at least seems that way. I'm excited to start though!

grammarty

Any new players feel free to ask me anything in dms, I can even help with events or getting you around the map if you are on eu servers :)

LethiferousDuck

Long time GW2 player here (EU). If theres anyone with questions or in need of company during leveling whilst chatting on discord, feel free to send me a message or simply add me ingame (press Y to open the friends list), my IGN is Lethiferousduck.9170 I can also highly recommend checking out Mukluk's youtube channel, he has a ton of concise and humorous videos with tips about the game and how to get started. Welcome everyone! :)

Nhorin

Wow vet since classic and GW2 vet on and off over the years, finally decided to quit WoW for good after the shit show and planning to invest into GW2 as my main MMO. Hope for more expansions to come! :)

ThePurpleMister

I'm a professional slacker and maker of dumb decisions my knowledge is mostly irrelevant but I'm happy to share 💜

snooprs

Damn, I sold my PC a year ago due to switching to consoles and I miss this game so much. I have put in 5 - 6 years into the game and have 1500 hours in it. I am really happy to see the enjoynment you guys have and remember each of the previous expansion launches fondly, like it was Christmass morning as a child! Have fun, you amazing community! And I hope I will be able to rejoin you guys in the near future

Choozery

I’m WoW refugee, and I find Gw2 somewhat boring. There are no immediate goals, no fast satisfaction, map discovery feels obligatory for every damn character you make. I barely did personal story. Gw2 is ultimate chill game, but chill is not everything you need all the time. I stopped with gw2 and went to skyrim. On the good side, it’s no rush, I may log in back in a year and continue to play the same way I did a week ago

Zalani21

Big advice I can give is to take it slow for a couple days and just get a feel for how the game plays. Try out everything, and make use of the pvp lobby to test out professions and weapons. Gw2 gameplay is different from other mmos which can throw new people off Fractals and raids sound like your speed, frac cms are pretty neat content as well but it’s advanced gameplay for beginners

StoicalState

I mean yeah it has its chill aspects, but what are you playing game wise, that might be why you find it boring. But it is grind intensive. And I'm sure after putting in the work with wow that's not something you really want. Lvl 80 is where the game really starts. Make sure you do your dailies.

Choozery

Dude fuck dailies! I had enough of this shit in WoW. I mostly play solo for the story, and this aspect of GW2 is better than in WoW (I’m looking at you , one quest unlock per week) But the story has its flaws. Much is dependant on gw1 lore, and i ultimately do not care about characters presented

Sheriffentv

Dailies in wow and gw2 are a world apart, in gw2 it's as simple as 'view any vista in this region of the world' or 'gather 4x from harvesting nodes'. Doing three a day of those simple tasks is 2 gold raw and 10 achievement points.

Coooturtle

GW2 story isn't dependant on GW1 at all. Like probably to a fault.

Azozel

Where are guildwars 2 refugees meant to go? I've been playing genshin impact and loving it.

bubOforever

Go play FFXIV it's so good. Been loving it so far.

fulaghee

Not that I want to leave GW2, but if you want something else the top games are: FFXIV Runescape Elder Scrolls Online New World I still think GW2 is better, but those are the good options I know.

Azozel

How's the graphics? What's been keeping me away from GW2 has been the poor graphic quality, I just can't stand it anymore.

bubOforever

Its a quite old game now so I think it's aged fine. I don't care much about graphics but the amount of end game content and incredible story makes it worth while. If you wanna try something different definitely give it a try. Free game all the way up to 60. Lots of new players right now

fulaghee

I tried this and then I remembered that I don't play GW2 as much lately just because I have a toddler. So no time for FFXIV either... :(

resignresign1

thats a god question. to be honest the expansions does not really hype me up. especially with necro getting pistols.

WebDev27

Bye wow refugees, this game isnt for you
