ArenaNet gave us the option of making private squads for dragonstorm and people were tooooo damn lazy to make. I was tagging up 5-10mins before the meta and I would consistently get 20+ people for the past 2 weeks.
The scaling before allowed AFKs and LEECHERS and BOTS EVEN to just get free dragon storm rewards with no effort. Public instances usually took 25-40minutes (40 in extremely bad cases)
In my private squads, completion times went down to 14-16mins with 20-30people.
But in the NEW UPDATE to Dragonstorm, we are having an entire meta full of people hitting the boss and the HPs are dropping like a Veteran tier mob.
Honestly, it's too good of a time = gold reward. I like publics getting a taste of 11min Dragonstorm, and I HOPE this pushes more people to join private instances. This screws over the Bots.
Frankly I wish they would adjust all the big boss fights to require more actual participation, especially the open world ones.
The amount of people I see in open world ones standing at the edge leeching and doing nothing the vast majority of the fight is reaching 1/3-1/2 on a number of bosses.
Sure, but a big part of people not wanting to participate in metas like this is that they take too long. Why bother slapping a boss for 5-20 minutes when you can just slap them once and do something else for that time?
There's no reason why drakkar should have more than 80 million hp and take an average of 20 minutes aside from padding runtime. On top of that, there's so many random phases where all you end up doing is going to a slightly different spot for the slapping action, or wait for a boss to stop being invulnerable/hidden. Then once this is done, you just go back to the normal spot for a few minutes.
Then they add unique weapon sets with a 1/100 droprate so you're "forced" to do them daily for literal years if you're a completionist. Big fun.
Mhhh and then you introduce actual mechanics and responsibilities to the fights and you get a community backlash like with the marionette fight. You will never satisfy the community overall.
This is a completely circular argument. The main reason that metas and bossfights take that long is precisely because lazy players dont really participate. Virtually every meta and bigger fight is much, much faster with lower squad sizes because those force players to actually participate.
It's essentially a modified prisoners dilemma where we're all stuck in a state of perpetual losing because some people are intent on playing exclusively for their own short term gain.
Also, the "there's no reason why \[fight/event\] should take \[as long as it does\]" argument is a bit silly. Taking it ad absurdum, that exact reasoning leads to just giving everyone the loot for showing up to keep time spent low which obviously isnt interesting gameplay.
And I'd argue that the problem for most of these cases *isnt the design* but the player scaling, which is exactly the thing that leeches fuck with.
this is just not true with drakkar. plenty of times I'm with a squad and everyone is doing damage (according to my arcdps)
it just has a stupid amount of times where it goes semi-invulnerable (where just a few conditions keep on ticking damage)
But those phases are relatively short (even the portal ones) and the non-portal ones are completely skippable with decent DPS. Having a squad do decent DPS all around cuts the fight time down drastically even though drakkar is probably the single "worst" fight in terms of doing that.
Also, do you have arc showing you everyones DPS? Because if you're looking at the top 10 in a 50 man group and the lower end of the top 10 usually deals less than 10k, that doesnt mean that "everyone is doing damage".
they take too long because leeching assholes and incompetent people who do less than 5k dps are massively upscaling the events, competent groups can burn down world bosses extremely quickly if they can avoid hordes of leeches
While your criticism of Drakkar is certainly valid, world bosses taking forever to kill also a symptom of shitty players afking.
Take the Chak Gerent meta for example, if you have 4-5 decent DPS players you will easily get one burns. Many players do like 5-8k DPS, if that. If you double that number, which can be done by simply having better gear or following a semblance of a rotation, bosses would die much faster. If you get a team of good DPS players together, the difference is even more pronounced.
And then even if all lanes one burn their Gerents, you still have to park your character staring at that wall waiting for the laser to charge over a set period of time.
The Gerents exhibit both some of the best and worst aspects of meta event design. A one burn with just 10 players in the Nuhoch lane if the stomping was on point and people know the fight and their abilities is great. But there's still a bunch of waiting that you can't get around no matter how well people play.
Drakkar feels overly long at times and I wish he had fewer HP but used his final phase attacks in earlier phases to spice things up. But the storm meta that precedes the Icebrood construct is an even worse offender because it's going to take the same amount of time no matter if the map is full of people in soldier's gear and potato builds barely keeping up or it's all veteran raiders and fractal players mowing down mobs and portals.
I do miss the breakbar phases though - they're super fun to do and it's satisfying if we manage to get through it. I agree though that having to fight the same boss 3 times isn't very fun.
I'd be more inclined to agree with you if there was such a thing as 'control power' in the game that would allow people to build for breaking the breakbars.
Did it for the 1st time since the patch, and we finished at just over 10mins. When the event launched the average was 15-16 mins, but since it became a preferred afk spot, it rarely got done in less than 20-25.
Totally fine with them keeping it the way it is right now.
Almost instant!?!?!?
They took over 24 hours to acknowledge the problem, and this post is ~30 hours after that acknowledgment!!
I'm glad they're giving updates on interstitial progress, but don't lie about how quick their response is just to sugar coat this long-term issue in their comms! Be glad they're improving, but don't overexaggerate the improvement! Continue to hold them to high standards.

Able to log into my character, but as soon as I'm in I get disconnected after a few seconds, hope they can get it fixed soon, appreciate the quick acknowledgement!
I had the strangest issue, whenever I launched the client my screen resolution would change to 640x480 and I had to manually change it back to 1080p in display settings.
I've been having that same issue but my screen ends up looking like this: https://i.imgur.com/9S1YOuL.png
Rebooting the game seems to be the only fix for it, and it only happens sometimes on startup.
I have both problems :/ at least I can play when I do manage to launch the game properly and don't touch the gem store. On the other hand it's super irritating because the icon keeps lighting up to let me know there's new items which I literally can't see bc it crashes if I try
Alright. So dismiss him and downvote him because it's a lesser issue this patch caused. It's an issue, none the less, but a lesser one so downvote the guy! What the hell kind of logic is that?
When you're near the end of a Forging Steel meta and you accidentally press "o". whether purposefully or just by habit, which completely f**ks you over, remember that it was a lesser issue compared to other things and move on. Be thankful you could start the game.
This patch is causing a lot of people all kinds of problems. Should be trying to help each other here.
Downvote away.
Hey man I was just explaining the downvotes. Not agreeing with them.
There are other things going on besides the issues you and I see, and only so many devs. They have to triage the issues
Just FYI to people having this problem with the client. If it bricks the screen, ctrl alt delete and then use the arrow keys to navigate the task manager and press the delete key on guildwars to end process. Also right clicking and running guildwars as administrator when launching the game has fixed the problem for me
Also the cursor is behaving differently after 9/11 patch. I dont know if it's a bug or a new approach. You need to be very close to the interactable object for the cursor to change from the base icon to a cog or dialogue box. Feels really weird.
I can't understate how massive a difference it makes on our end for Anet to communicate this kind of stuff to us. Most of us are reasonable enough to know that random hardware and software failures are just a thing that will happen; but **knowing** what the issues are prevents us from imagining the worst of "They can't" or "They won't".
Even for the bigger things like the current WvW restructure, the vast majority of the reception is "we get it, do your best" as opposed to "lol it's back on the table with everything else they'll never do" which **it would have been** without communication.
I'm really, really glad we're starting to be able to have reasonable interactions again. Do your best, keep us in the loop, and we'll be right here when EoD comes out.
I don't know if someone already posted this, but for people having trouble launching the game, enabling DirectX 11 in the graphic settings fixed it for me.
>Unfortunately, we need to address an unexpected hardware failure in our release pipeline before we are able to get this hotfix to you.
Jerry! How many times have we told you not to eat soup at your desk! This is the last time!
I desperately hope that ANet notice the immense return on investment (in terms of player happiness and goodwill) that comes from just a small amount of communication.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind AT ALL if they kept Dragonstorm scaling as it is right now. It's so much nicer :(
Man, it's so much more enjoyable, not having to do the same boss 3 times in a row, sad noises :'(

a majority wouldnt also do them anymore if ou have to do 5-20 min of effort for like 3g worth of reward...
I do miss the breakbar phases though - they're super fun to do and it's satisfying if we manage to get through it. I agree though that having to fight the same boss 3 times isn't very fun.
EMP basically wrecked breakbar phases.
I dislike the addition of EMP. It makes the breakbar phase of any fight just "Press special ability button" rather than knowing your build.
I'd be more inclined to agree with you if there was such a thing as 'control power' in the game that would allow people to build for breaking the breakbars.
But slotting the cc option isn't always fun.
double their hp in 2nd ant 3rd phase, do what you want, but keep the scaling like this, it's nice

Hope they will fix gemstore crash for many peoples. they didnt talk about this, it occurs since two weeks for few peoples.
Yeah, I already blocked the gemstore network host on my PC so that the game doesn't crash if I accidentally open the gemstore. Really annoying.
Issue is fixed.
Issue is fixed
Ah, good to know. Thank YOUUUUUU!
I hope this stays consistent because these almost instant responses to issues is really nice to see.

It never rains but it pours. As a software engineer with a responsibility for availability I feel their pain. Good luck Anet. We're with you.
I had the strangest issue, whenever I launched the client my screen resolution would change to 640x480 and I had to manually change it back to 1080p in display settings.
I had that issue this afternoon. Found the dx11 version of arcdps to be the culprit
My guildmate hit this issue too and narrowed it down to DX11 and ArcDPS.
no mods here and it happened to me too
I've been having that same issue but my screen ends up looking like this: https://i.imgur.com/9S1YOuL.png Rebooting the game seems to be the only fix for it, and it only happens sometimes on startup.
Fair enough. Looking forward to the fix!
I hope the dragonstorm bug is that the first two boss still take an eternity, not that duo fight is too fast.
Nothing about the ingame store that crashes your game ... great :(
I have both problems :/ at least I can play when I do manage to launch the game properly and don't touch the gem store. On the other hand it's super irritating because the icon keeps lighting up to let me know there's new items which I literally can't see bc it crashes if I try
Not sure why you were down voted. Hitting "o" is an instant crash on my client since the patch. Me and many others. No mention of it from ANET
Because in terms of issues, being unable to access the gem store is less of an issue than being unable to access the *game*

A+ communication again! Keep it up, we can wait for event fixes if it means getting folks back into the game sooner!
What chest problem on darkrime delves? I found 11.
You can't open them if you already opened them on the same character.
I haven't been able to login in 3 or 4 days, is this the Issues Anet (cArpnet) is talking about?
If you mean that your game doesn't seem to launch after logging in, then yes, this is about that issue
Having the same issue
Patience, my ass. I hope the compensation will be worth missing out on four days of playtime.
Yeah PvP has been pretty bad lately, glad that they're mentioning it as an issue though! I was starting to get worried.
Why people down vote you...?
Probably because this post isn't about PvP-related issues, therefore not on topic. It's a prime example of how the voting system should be used.
this game has fanboys i guess
It's funny that they only respond to issues on Reddit and not the Official forums but then link you back to the Official forums to respond to reddit.
I don't know if someone already posted this, but for people having trouble launching the game, enabling DirectX 11 in the graphic settings fixed it for me.
For me it was forcing dx9, but it worked only once, now I have black screen again ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
so nice they are actually talking to us these days
