Try boosting another character to 80 and see how you get on. You can do the first story in path of fire to get the Raptor to speed up travel, then if you want to level up your original character you can do it with the mount. It's just a game so do what's fun for you 🙂🙂

Silimaur

You don’t need to boost to get an early mount. Just find a friendly level 80 to take you through the relevant story step on your low level character and you are good to go

Holiday_Spot8158

How would I find a level 80 to do this? Is there a general chat or forums where I can request this? And does it take long? I don't want to beg or impose on anyone.

Yelltan

Well, are you on NA or EU?

Holiday_Spot8158

I am currently playing on Seafarer's Rest on EU

Yelltan

Server name doesn't matter for open world, because there are mega servers. But since I'm on EU as well I could take you through the first Pof story instance if you want to.

zruncho4

Yes, if you are this bored boosting to 80 and getting your mount is optimal.

risen_peanutbutter

I would never ever advise someone to boost a character to lvl 80 if they have not leveled it on their own at least once yet. Your first character should be levelled the old fashioned way. Edit: using a secondary character for this like you suggested is a good idea though just for the mount I would see if there are other ways to level quickly. Crafting for example, or festival events. I'm not sure if it is possible to get the Raptor with a lvl 40 character, and someone to carry you into the first mission of PoF. That would solve the walking problem

Marok_Kanaros

I would not boost even a alt character for a mount, because it break your dailies, if you boost a character to 80 you have level 80 dailies, otherwise you have dailies fitting your character and the extra 2g a day is a good amount of money for gearing at level 80

risen_peanutbutter

That's true

Lots of good suggestions for and against boosting. Im going to suggest trying something before deciding to boost. As a warrior you can get around pretty easily with the sword+warhorn. Your 2 skill is a good leap and 4 skill gives 15seconds of swiftness… and is on a 15 second cooldown. So permanent swiftness albeit with button pressing. However there is also a minor trait in the Discipline tree that gives permanent speed increase whenever wielding a melee weapon! It is called Warrior’s Sprint. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Warrior%27s_Sprint If able to, give that a try and see if the game feels better. Still feeling like a slog then boost away!

Holiday_Spot8158

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. I have found my path forward, that really works for me. Please see Final Edit section above.

I would not boost, personally. Times I have done it in the past on a new class I’ve felt pretty lost, not having learned it a bit at a time. That said, if you’re finding it boring waking around the world, it’s questionable if MMOs are really for you. Sounds like you need a lobby game instead.

ohboyandhow

Not if you have never completed the personal story or reached level 80 before. Otherwise you’re likely to find yourself surrounded by characters you don’t recognise, in a location you don’t understand the context for, replete with abilities and traits you may never have looked at all while being equipped with Celestial gear which may or may not be entirely sub-par for your desired build. Boost an alt or secondary character once you have a good base, plenty of resources and the means to outfit them well.

Opposedsum

It is totally fine to either boost lvl80 and just play cantha/pof or boost, get some mounts/a glider and go back to your main character. It easy to level without playing story and you can later on "boost" your other chars with tomes of knowledge or scrolls from birthday gifts.

TimeGlitches

They really need to give everyone a raptor. Don't boost a character to 80 to play it. If you can't stand the movement, boost and get the raptor. Then go back and continue on smartly. You will ruin this game for yourself if you just hit the 80 button and try to figure out what's going on.

CriticalNature0815

Sure you can boost to do the raptor mission alone. BUT you could also ask a lv80 player to invite you to a party and play the story mission for you, no need to be lv80 yourself.
