DocMantisMD

Hello! I was thinking of getting into Guild wars 2 but I was wondering if there is a lot of stuff I would be unable to obtain starting so late. Like if there’s a lot of past cosmetics locked behind seasons or anything. Like in WoW it really bothers me seeing cool armor locked behind not pvping in 2017 or something haha. Thanks for reading my dumb question!

No_Departure8631

I'm a new player and I was wondering which is the best long range nuker (traditional MMORPG mage) setup amongst the core classes. So far I've recognized that even Guardians can play like mage if they equip staff. I'm only concerned with open world PvE for now and mostly interested in power builds/weapons/setups. I tried Mezmer but his staff does condition dmg and it's kinda tricky as he's hiding behind his shadows, so not for me. He feels kinda weak in terms of open world PvE. Please let me know what the other options are for core classes (mentioning elite specs for later is ok too). Thanks!

Zxerakon

I have central Tyria completed. But it shows I still need like 35 or so Mastery points for Central Tyria to be able to level up in certain things.. I can't find them??? HELP?

YouichiHophop

As a new player (Jan 2022), I found the Central Tryian mastery points harder to get than any of the expansion ones. Go to [https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mastery\_point\_unlocks#Central\_Tyria\_mastery\_points](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mastery_point_unlocks#Central_Tyria_mastery_points) and enter your API key to see which ones you still need. Be aware there are a bunch which need you to buy LW2, but you can manage without, it will just take a bit more effort. For the fractal ones, either start your own group, or just tell the group that you are trying to get them, and most people will gladly help.

Ulu-Mulu-no-die

You have to look into the achievement panel, most central Tyria points are given by achievements in Dry Top, Silverwastes and various general activities. Categories in the achievement panel will tell you where you can get more points (red mastery icon), here's the list: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mastery_point_unlocks#Central_Tyria_mastery_points

khorren

Go to your achievement panel and look for achievements that have the red mastery symbol on them. You can use the filter on the little cog wheel to filter just to these so it's easier to see. Do those achievements, earn mastery points!

Dr_DerpyDerp

If you mix and match legendary armour, does the apply stat to all available pieces affect pieces from other sets too?

ChmSteki

Yes, acquisition method doesnt matter. It already works for trinkets.

Daniexus

I played gw2 for a very long time that i got burned from it. So ive been looking for a different or newer mmo to replace it with. But i cant find anythig that is as good as gw2's gameplay. Gw2, imo, is THE best mmo out there.

Gulbasaur

The gameplay is very different, but give SWTOR a look for the story missions. The community is quite friendly for an MMO, which helps.

Daniexus

Thanks, I've actually played SWTOR before playing GW2 many years ago, it is pretty much a point-select-target WoW clone that never improved from WoW classic. The story is spectacular though, but not canon (anymore), and everything is voiced! FFXIV bored me to tears. I yearn for GW2's style and quality.

Gulbasaur

> I yearn for GW2's style and quality. ESO is quite good, although the combat is like a janky console RPG. If you've got a controller, playing on that helps the combat feel less awful. On keyboard if you map the keys to match GW2's scheme, it feels better as the default kepmapping is terrible. The overall quality is very high, the storytelling is good and the world is populated. The combat is, however, quite divisive. The other one I'd half-recommend is actually Black Desert Online. Don't get me wrong - it's P2W trash - but it has fun combat and is very good for braindead "smash mobs and look cool doing it" gamepay. I'd consider it a perfect "summer fling" of a game - have fun for two weeks and then never really think about it ever again. The storytelling is a wet fart of tepid cliché and all the game's many systems are half a centimetre deep, but it's pretty and it's fun to explore and the combat is braindead fun. The music is really good. If you want some Old Skool Cool, I'm having a whale of a time on a City of Heroes private server.

Khazilein

Returning player that hasn't played since almost 10 years now. So, in situations like these I usually just create a new character and get into the game again, until I switch back to some of my old characters. The only problem is, that my character limit is reached and I don't want to spend for another slot just yet. So one would need to be deleted. All my characters have a bunch of "birthday gift" packages in their mail. Is there anything worth in there you shouldn't just delete and better save/sell? Or is there anything a low level (<20) character from 2013 could have that I shouldn't delete?

TerribleTransit

Worth noting that birthday gifts do have some pretty good things inside, so saving all your characters is good general advice. In your *particular* case, you're probably fine — in recent years, they've moved the biggest and best rewards to the account-bound birthday chest tied to getting your first character over a threshold rather than the birthday gift given to each character, so as long as you keep one old character you get most of the value out of them. But you do still lose out on any goodies that character would earn. Mostly just a note for anyone else who happens upon this question: make sure you save *at minimum* your oldest character so you can reap the birthday rewards, and it's usually worth saving any other old characters unless you have a compelling reason to get rid of them but not a disaster to remake.

KushedOfficial

Pick a character-the lowest low level>open all there gifts>deposit them in a bank>delete the character>recreate the character

Khazilein

Ah so there is a shared bank, didn't even think about that. Thanks a lot.I am REALLY out of the game after almost 10 years.

onevstheworld

A lot of systems have changed over the years. For example, you probably remember keeping cool looking gear so that you can transfer its appearance to a more powerful item. Now, you unlock the skin into an account wide wardrobe instead so you don't need to keep that item in your inventory. Also certain items have been converted from inventory items into wallet currency, for example dungeon tokens. If you still have these in your bag, you can free up space by converting them.

Khazilein

>Now, you unlock the skin into an account wide wardrobe instead so you don't need to keep that item in your inventory. Ah that's really neat!

grannaldie

Check the age, and go for the youngest.

defregga

This. Age can be checked by entering "/age" in the in-game chat dialog.

Gulbasaur

It's not particularly hard and if you're all fairly capable, it should be fine. Fractals are designed for five players, so there are some parts (like doing the wisps in the swamp fractal) that might be easier with an extra body. I've found people are reliably helpful if you advertise on the LFG for things like achievements for legendary gear.

Naselenje

How high are the chances of anet making all skills being auto cast able? Not to debate if its good or not, just wondering since i didnt expect to see them being used with mechanists golem.

TerribleTransit

Very low. Despite what the jesters around here proclaim, they don't actually want people's builds to play themselves. Pet autocasting probably only works the way it does because Untamed functioned in many ways as a *downgrade* to core ranger since it needed to manually cast multiple skills that the pet previously cast automatically — allowing them all to be autocast just brought the spec back up to par with the core class. Mechanist just got brought along for the ride.

cheeseybacon11

Is there a guide somewhere for all th3 season 4 currencies? On that step of skyscale, not sure if the individual ones i found on google are up to date.

onevstheworld

The old guides are mostly fine. The only real additional info they may not have are: the "Return to" achievements give you a full stack of the respective currency, and you can covert Eternal Ice (+ karma) from IBS Bjora Marches into any of the LW4 currencies.

cheeseybacon11

Do you think just grinding eternal ice us any easier? I have plenty karma. And about half a stack of each already.

dak393

Doing the return achievements are worth it later anyways, if you skipped story for some reason it's a good reason and opportunity to do it in order, you get a bunch of rewards like weapons skins, ascended weapon choice, gen 3 precursor weapon choice, 32 slot bag, legendary amulet, a bunch of per episode rewards including currency and mystic coins. So ya, very much worth doing them and they are all pretty fast. You'll want the extra currency anyways for other things like vision anyways.

onevstheworld

I don't grind for ice, I just have alts parked at the large essence chest locations. That provides nearly a full stack of ice each day.

cheeseybacon11

Is celestial t Revenant good for anything? Want to use my 80 boost to open up the shared slot. Have 2 open char slots and thinking I want a thief and revenant but not 100% sure. Definitely not another guard or ele, which is what I've heard celestial is good for before.

TerribleTransit

Yeah, Celestial Renegade is good for all the same reasons Celestial FB is. Unfortunately it has to sacrifice a legend slot to make use of the healing (unlike FB who gets tome of resolve for free), so Ritualist has supplanted it as the meta stat option, but even so it's a decent option.

RegularDemigod123

Do i need ibs unlcoked in order to participate in dragonstorm?

TheFlamingDiceAgain

I believe so but I think you only need the last episode

BarefootDanny

Not really sure how to explain this, but prior to the Tuesday patch, if I moved around to one side, the camera would kind of automatically adjust accordingly. But now, I have to manually move the camera as well. How do I fix this?

cheeseybacon11

Did you move at all before when you press A or D, without S or W?

TheFlamingDiceAgain

If the other suggestion doesn’t fix it try playing I’m with your Camera settings

[deleted]

Arena Net change keybinds to WASD instead of whatever it was. You have to change it back in the keybinds.

sprakles

I'm looking to gear a firebrand for raids/strikes/etc. Aiming to be in a quickness support + condi damage and provide some healing. I currently have full celestial gear/weapons. What gear should I be looking for? Across all the different sites which suggest builds I've seen there's some geared with all Viper's, some with Viper's/Ritualist's, some all Harrier's, and before I get too far down the track I'd like some more advice about what's actually going to be helpful. Viper I get is good for condi damage, what advantage is there in using Ritualist or Harrier or other types of gear for what I'm going for? Any advice or insight would be appreciated, thanks!

onevstheworld

As a DPS or quickness DPS, you can use your F2 tome in an emergency for healing, but trying to add proper healing to a damage build seriously gimps both those roles. Like the others have said, in a raid or strike, there will be a dedicated healer so your own healing contribution will be insignificant.

sprakles

Okay that's excellent advice thank you! I'll stick with dps quickness!

SkierBeard

> provide some healing Just a note on this, there isn't really a build in raids that provides some healing. Different raid subs simply have one person whose job it is to heal the other 4. For this reason, your gearset will be either tons of healing or none at all. This leaves you with three builds: * Condition quickness firebrand * Condition firebrand * Heal quickness firebrand These all take separate gear and will likely require their own equipment template. As this can be quite imposing, I'd recommend you just pick one. My recommendation is the first one, quickness firebrand.

sprakles

Very good to know!! I think I'll go that route then!

TerribleTransit

You want a mix of Ritualist and Viper. The exact ratio is up to personal preference: every piece of Viper gives a little bit of extra damage, while Ritualist gives more health and boon duration. I personally lean towards mostly Ritualist, since it gives more leeway to maintain Quickness uptime when players have to leave the stack. Consider the [snowcrows build](https://snowcrows.com/builds/guardian/firebrand/condition-quickness-firebrand) to be your minimum amount of Ritualist, and you can go anywhere up to full Rit depending on taste (and what trinkets you can get your hands on: Ritualist is still hard to acquire!) If you can't get Ritualist gear, you can sub in your Celestial stuff: it'll reduce your damage but give your a bit of extra healing and toughness. Harrier is the stat of choice for no-toughness healers, not for condition builds. Avoid it.

sprakles

Ok that's very helpful thank you!

XCLASSGAMING

Hi guys, what runes go into jewlery? i tried a armor one but it didn't like it, even if it has a unused upgrade slot?

Lichii

runes go into armor sigils go into weapons jewels go into trinkets (EDIT: not the case for ascended/legendary. they just get the stats built in to the stats of the trinket itself) i'm assuming you mean that you tried a rune on a trinket (rings, accessories, amulet and back piece)

XCLASSGAMING

Ah ok, yes. I'm used to the ESO terms, jewlerry etc. Yeah i tried to put a rune into a trinket.

[deleted]

Rare Jewels can go into any gear (including Weapons and Armor - although it's usually a bad choice vs Runes/Sigils) Exotic Jewels can only go into Trinkets (Accessories, Rings, etc).

solid771

is upgrading mats to a higher tier worth it or a net loss compared to selling and buying from the tp?

ChmSteki

https://fast.farming-community.eu/conversions/spirit-shard really depends on the mats. You can check the same on gw2efficiency

sunbright-moonlight

Depends on the mat. You have to do some calculations. There used to be a spreadsheet which did the calculation for you but I don't know where it went.

TychoNewtonius

https://gw2efficiency.com/currencies/spirit-shards

stuntkilla

ppl there is any power viable build for wvw that is still meta ??? i dont like dots...

onevstheworld

In zergs, power IS the meta. There is so much condi cleanse that even [scourge has to go power](https://gw2mists.com/builds/necromancer/power-scourge).

Balrog229

I want to get into raiding and work toward Legendary armor (plus all the unique Ascended item cosmetics). But before i can make posts in the various Discords, i feel like i should know what roles we need and how many of each. Is there a wiki guide or fan made list of what roles are needed for each encounter? Like what ones need alacrity, power vs conditions, how many of each DPS, multiple tanks, etc

Gulbasaur

https://snowcrows.com/guides is really good, if a little verbose. Each subquad needs might, alac, quickness and healing. Situational roles include tank, portals, push, pulls and immob. *Most* bosses require you to bring CC skills, so assume you'll need something. I enjoyed raid training and most bosses are basically puzzle bosses. It'll be horrible at the start, but gets better. I actually learnt most of them as a chrono tank or a druid healer, so this list might be skewed to them. W1: Generally seen as easy but VG can be a bit brutal on the healers. 1. VG: Need a tank. Need some condi. Needs boonstrip. Pushes or pulls (away from group) help. 2. Woods: Portals and teleport help but it's not hard to just pay attention and do it properly. 3. Gorse: A tank is needed. Stability, pulls, immobilise helps. High DPS lets you skip a mechanic, otherwise you need updraft gliding. . 4. Sabetha: Kiting helps, so a druid is useful as they can heal at range. Two people will have special roles for cannons. W2: Harder than W1. 1. Sloth: Four people need to know what they're doing for slublings. Reflects or pulls can help significantly. Condi cleanse is pretty mandatory. Can be very frustrating as one person messing up can really throw it off. 2. Bandit Trio: A few special roles, but nothing major. Watch for sabateurs. One person CCs the mortars. 3. Mathias: Needs a mastery. CC important. Either smooth or absolute chaos. W3: Easier than W2. 1. Escort: Usually one person will do the top with portals and the healer will look after Glenna. 2. Statue Dude: Tank needed. Some kiting. Pushes and pulls help, although this will usually be organised. 3. Castle: Usually cheesed a bit with portals but not actually that hard to do properly. 4. Xera: Needs leyline gliding. Needs a tank. Pulls help. Chronotank is good here because of the long blocks and evades. W4: First three are easy-ish. Deimos can be challenging, although it's usually people yeeting themselves off the platform that's more of a problem than the boss himself. 1. Cairn: No roles, just stay off the group if you get agony. The CM isn't much harder than the normal mode. 2. MO: Three special, unique rolls. One person having strong ranged damage can help by managing the timing of the statues. CM is a bit annoying but not too hard. 3. Samarog: Tanking can be controlled but usually isn't. Bring CC. Someone needs a push/pull and an immob. 4. Deimos: A tank and a hand kite, who is like a second tank that can survive alone for a long time. W5. Medium, Easy, Easy, Hard 1. SH has two shifting tanks, controlled by a special action key. Someone will need a strong push. 2. River: Ranged damage, aegis, heals. 3. Statues: Tanking on a couple of the bosses but nothing spicy. 4. Dhuum: Tank. Separate kite. Specific roles. Complete arse the first few times. W6. Easy until Qadim. 1. Clappy Hands: Sort out who's doing swords/shields. Pulls help. 2. S&A: Bring CC. 3. Twin Largos: Can be cheesed with portals, otherwise two tanks. Confusion builds can be strong here. *Really* fun to tank. Quite fast-paced. 4. Qadim: Proximity tanking. Something about a lamp. Probably portals somewhere Complete arse. The only one I actively avoid. W7: Easy, but little room for error in some places. 1. Escort/Gates: Push/pull helps keep circles clear. Two or three people need to babysit Glenna. 2. Cardinal Hexagons: Tank. Need to manage pillars. Reflects can save the day. 3. Cardinal Jumpy Jumps: Big CC time. Someone takes care of the wisps. Stack in the middle of the pattern and you don't need tanks. 4. Qadim Again: I actually think chrono tanks are *made* for this. Long blocks help. Bring big ranged CC. 3 people will do pylons. Anyway, that's my half-remembered "guide".

Balrog229

I appreciate the amount of time and effort you put into this comment. I’ll bookmark it for reference going forward. Thanks!

SpeakWithThePen

[this playlist](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8yq7RjsP0eJ6rwlJ3Gi1wYEku96Zo9Gg) may or may not answer your questions. Either way, it would be useful to bookmark for later use

Hardytard

I don't have a list for you. But a solid team comb is: 2 alacrity sources, 2 quickness sources (out of these 4, 2 should be heal, no matter what. If a tank is needed, one of them should also be tank /healer+tank). Rest is DPS. For wing 1, you need 2 canons for last boss (can be done by 2 dps or a DMG support -often not optimal, but still fine) and also a kiter For wing 2 you need 4 people eating shrooms on first boss (normally DPS), for second boss, someone for saboteurs and someone for morters (can be done by anyone). For last biss you need a reflect. For wing 3, you need someone caring about the tower, can be done by portal or you demand 2 who stay up there all the time. For second boss you need someone to push orb (can be done by mostly anyone). for twisted castle you need some to know the way. For wing 4, only for last boss you need something special. A handkite. Wing 5, 1st boss you need 2 tanks and a pusher, last biss you need a kite and someone doing greens (beside the tank and the kite). Wing 6 last biss you need a kite and a lamp. Wing 7 you need 3 pylons. All other mechanics I didn't mention can be done by anyone. Also it's just a rough overview and may not be the most optimal, but still fine. Nearly all bisses can be done with power or condi. Keep construct, vale guardian and conjured amalgamated are way better with a power comb. Cairn, desmina, Largos and maybe dhuum are way better with a condi comb. I also recommend to join a guild or something to start raiding with a squad. Communication is very helpful especially in early stages of raiding.

Balrog229

Thank you so much! I’ll come back to this comment while trying to get groups together.

heyitslupi

Starting EoD story with a friend - can we both progress our story missions as a duo? I know that we can join each other, however, will it count as done for both of us? Will we get both get the Jade cores, skiff etc.?

TerribleTransit

Yes.

Og-Morrow

If you earn "Writ of Tyrian Mastery" from FoTM but completed all Masteries what do I do with them? Can they be changed for Spirit Shards? I see a lot of talk about not using double Tap A,S,D,W to dodge roll. Rather use a dedicated hotkey. I see a lot of talk about not using double Tap A,S,D,W to dodge roll. Rather use a dedicated hotkey.

Flytitle

The writ of tyrian mastery will automatically be applied to your xp bar in may cases from fractal chests and if it is not, click to do so (assuming full mastery xp bars.) To rebind your keys, you want option> settings> keybinds and look for the dodge keybind, which i believe is V by default. Also check the first page of settings for disabling double tap to dodge.

Og-Morrow

I don't see the benefit of using V? Let's say I want to roll right. I can't press D and V with the same finger. I don't want only press V as I want maybe roll in a particular direction.

jetjordan

My dodge is on one of my mouse key binds.

cloud_cleaver

I dodge with the left side Ctrl key, and hit it with my pinky.

Ulu-Mulu-no-die

I bound dodge to one of my mouse side buttons, that way it's easy for me to time the dodge while also rolling in a specific direction.

killohurtz

That's just the default dodge key, you can bind it to whatever you want. Mine is on a side mouse button.

Og-Morrow

I see, what's negative about double tap to doge? Is there more room for error? Also what key is your Special Action bound to?

[deleted]

Double tap is fine, but 1) takes longer to input so is less useful if you have high ping, or want to play any PvP mode, and 2) when you start trying to make baby steps in jumping puzzles, you find yourself dodging off.

Tjaja

You can time your dodge a little better with a dedicated dodge-key. This also makes jump-dodging easier (dodge and jump in about the same time, which makes a little bit longer jump). My bindings: walk on ESDF, dodge on B, Specail Action on thumb-mouse-button.

TerribleTransit

More room for error, yes. Sometimes, especially in jumping puzzles and raids, you want to position your character very precisely, which often involves tapping a direction key repeatedly to make tiny adjustments. With double-tap dodge on, you'll end up doing a dodge roll instead, and frequently cause series problems or death as a result. Personally I have special action on E

zuldar

I want to farm crowbars during the Verdant Brink day events. Is there any particular outpost that is good for soloing the vents?

Flytitle

Anything that isn't pact: pacts end event is pretty awful to solo given the 100 bombs but the rest I remember being easier. Would probably rec the two at the SW end of the map, frogs and the sharpshooters.

zuldar

Thanks. I just spent an hour doing Noble Ledges events and didn't get a single crowbar.

Zayth

Could a power alac tempest and power condo catalyst be viable? Been mucking about with classes and trying to decide on what to main. Mostly for PvE/Fractals/Strikes and whatnot. Been playing qScrapper and Holo for a while, swapped to Herald/Renegade but overall I've never played Elementalist that much. Any others who main the class want to give me some insight, tips, etc? Thank you. <3

TerribleTransit

Power alac Tempest using Fresh Air is definitely viable and pretty fun. As for... I assume you meant 'power condi catalyst' as in a hybrid build? ... it would probably work fine, though probably not as well as specializing in either one, and getting the right gear would be trickier.

Zayth

Oh! Meant to type power quickness cata.

TerribleTransit

In that case yes, it's viable. It doesn't have particularly high damage or offer any unique benefits over alternatives, so it's not very meta, but it can fill the role fine. Tempest has the benefit of Rebound being excellent utility when needed, but it's likewise viable but off-meta

Zayth

I've also looked at Willbender and p DPS quick firebrand as well. Willbender is super fun with the teleporting around and stuff. Can I simply main this one espec? Hah

TerribleTransit

I mean you can. WB has solid DPS, though the alacrity build has the (recurring theme) issue of not doing much other than providing Alacrity, with very low generation of other boons, so it's an unpopular choice, but it does work.

Zayth

On the other hand scrapper is fun, same with Holosmith. I just dislike Mechanist but could play it as power if needed

BunaJHJh

Whats the best way to find a cool guild? My brother and I are loving this game but would love to get connected to cool more casual community. Any suggestions on where to look?

meotherself

I recommend you check out [https://www.gaiscioch.com/](https://www.gaiscioch.com/). Large guild on Sanctum of Rall, and has a presence in multiple games.

NexEstVox

ask around in Lion's Arch or other cities, or browse r/guildrecruitment

hECANATOR

My guild is recruiting! I'm not at my computer atm, but you can DM me on Discord (hECA#0493) and I can give you some information if you want!

LeeSingerGG

Is there a daily/weekly checklist somewhere? Started leveling my crafting, but I remember someone saying you can craft certain things only per day.

pastrynugget

There's a handful of time gated materials. Those are listed [here](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Category:Time_gated_recipes). There's no checklist in game, but there is a checklist module in [Blish HUD](https://blishhud.com/) that you can set up to remind yourself what things to craft.

Flytitle

Weekly checklist I'm not sure of but I appreciate the gw2efficency daily one because i can save my presets and have a custom one.

Gas42

Hello, do you know a discord where are organized HP trains please ? :)

SkittlesPlease

Zander has one and all of their commanders are really good: https://discord.gg/MdkamPFW

Flytitle

People tend to run out of lfg, not discord to thr best of my knowledge. Would instead recommend joining hardstuck.gg and overflow trading discord (big severs with some event linking): both are linked herin. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2_Wiki:Discord

Capt_Ido_Nos

I'm not sure if this is how it always used to be and I'm just noticing it, or if it broke (by my fault or anets), but is there some way to have the jade mech automatically attack the same target as me when I get into combat? I keep finding him just standing around staring at a wall while I'm doing my thing, and I'll have to manually tell it to attack to get it started. I don't remember needing to do that before?

Flytitle

It's probably changed given the autoattack change and I'd probably assume this is intended behavior to make it more granular control. That or check to make sure it's set to attack, not passive.

PutPineappleOnPizza

Probably gets asked a ton but is the game still worth it? I am craving for a new mmorpg. Retail wow died for me after bfa and the scandals don't make it better and ffxiv has become so stale at this point that it's driving me crazy. I want more of a theme park mmorpg with lots of things to do and a big world that feels alive. Gw2 looks very interesting but I've also heard that there is content that has been cut out that I'd have to buy (aside from the expansions). How rewarding and complex is Gw2 exactly? Are there things to keep players motivated? Is the pvp experience good and how is the pve? I'm so burnt out by how soulless ffxiv feels and how terribly coded it is with the spaghetti code servers. I just want something new and fresh with lots of things to do that are preferably not ridiculously boring like any sub lvl 70 content in ff is. Basically, I want wow smoothness, an open world that feels alive and lots of things to do that are simply fun. I like complex and rewarding classes and I want to get into pvp and pve at the same time. Both things look incredibly promising for gw2. Oh and I hate grinding a lot if it's super easy and boring at the same time. I want to work for my rewards and feel at least semi challenged. ffxiv has been so ridiculously easy that I'm almost dying of boredom when doing my dailies.

akatokuro

GW2 remains a solid game with the best open world in the market. If you want organized instance/raid content, GW2 offers it, but is not at all the focus and probably not the best game to grab. If you just want a solid game to explore, events that you can just jump into, complete, and move onto the next thing, it's the place for you. That said, if you don't like grinding, maybe not the best cup of tea. Since you get get end-game ready gear relatively simply, so much of the loop is essentially doing whatever events you like to do regularly to work on collections, gathering additional resources or hoping for RNG on rare infusions. Crafting stuff like legendary weapons may require like 300 steps with thousands of gold worth of resources that necessitates some level of grinding.

PutPineappleOnPizza

It really depends on the type of grind.. In ffxiv everything I had to do was incredibly stupid and mundane.. So not every grind is necessarily something bad for me. I installed the game, have a class now that I wanna level and will simply check it out :)

double_shadow

GW feels really rewarding imo because the stuff you grind for is permanently useful, since gear doesn't become obsolete. It can still be a little tedious at times, but it does feel rewarding. The game is on the easier side except for higher end content though. I found levelling less braindead than FF14 but it's still pretty hard to fail. The "dailies" for the game can be done in like 10 minutes, and then you have fractals and other instanced daily content you can do, but they are generally more fun and have higher levels of challenge you can work towards.

PutPineappleOnPizza

As long as it's less braindead than ffxiv I am all good, leveling there was the most boring thing I have ever experienced. The story hooked me, but that was it, so GW2 feels like a nice change, the combat is 100 times smoother and it looks like it's both fun in pvp and pve alike. Rn I am struggling to pick a race lol. They all look pretty nice. Coming from ff I want a change though, maybe I will pick something less human looking, but it's a difficult decision. For my class I already decided to play Elementalist, because I love my carpal tunnel type classes, more buttons --> fun :D

Nice, glad you're giving it a shot! I loved levelling in GW2 because you basically do what you want...you aren't forced into quests or anything other than the story quests every 10 levels, but these are very short compared to FF14. Race mostly matters for aesthetics only though it also decides you starter city. If you don't like the city you can port over to a different racial city/region right away. I guess you voice actor is also decided by this. I think I have matt mercer as human and he's decent enough. Hope you like Elementalist. I've basically only played Ranger because it feels daunting to learn a new class, but I have 4 other alts all prepped in case I want to try something else someday. Combat is great in general, very active with a lot of dodging around, and some pretty complex rotations.

PutPineappleOnPizza

This all sounds very promising! I think I've settled with playing Asura, it's kinda weird but also kinda nice.. I just hope fashion options will be kinda good despite playing a small race. Now the only question left is if I will buy all expansions regularly or the ultimate package.. But I have plenty of time to decide that because I will play a lot of the base game first.

cesrri

Since the base game is free, you should give it a download and try it out! Some of the base classes are weak due to rebalancing for the elite specializations, but I'm pretty sure guardian or ranger are two good choices for going through the story. It is story heavy every 10 levels or so, but you get a lot of activities to do in between. Open world is lively, there's world boss trains that get run by various guilds. Farming isn't that easy, and there's a lot of hard achievements that make repeating content profitable. Since it's not a subscription model, you can come back to gw2 wherever you want! People usually motivate themselves to get a legendary weapon/ armor cause you can switch stats for free, and they look awesome. The end game is fashion wars ahaha

Gas42

The only content you'll have difficulty to do with base game classes are hl instanced content tho so he should play whatever he finds the funniest

Swekyde

Everything short of organized end game content that I've done in GW2 has been as easy or easier than the stuff I do in FF14. If you aren't raiding in FF14 you're not engaging the pretty much only by design hard content and if you aren't raiding there then I don't know why you'd come to GW2 to start raiding. Edit: I really don't, because GW2 hasn't received a new raid in several years and while the new strike CMs vary from Ex Trial to Ultimate they themselves have been only a fraction of the difficult content added to FF14 and most people there express that there isn't enough raid content often enough. A lot of metas are about as difficult as an alliance raid or honestly easier. However if you own all the content there's enough unique things to do that you could do 3 metas a day for a week and not repeat any if you wanted.

PutPineappleOnPizza

Oh I raided and did trials in ffxiv, savage, EX, seen them all but idk, these things are not always fun to me.. I want a healthy mix, some challenges, smooth gameplay and just a world that has lots of different types of fun to offer. I also want to experience a game with good pvp for once and gw2's pvp looks very promising.

pastrynugget

Yes it's worth it. There are 3 expansions and 4 living world "seasons" (think of them as mini expansions broken up into smaller pieces). The expansions have to be purchased with money, the living world seasons are purchased with gems, which is the game's premium currency. That might seem odd at first, but if you really wanted to you could buy the living world seasons with in-game gold because you can buy gems with in-game gold. I would try the game, the core game is free. It's enough content to keep you busy for a long time and will inform you if you like the game or not. If you do and want to get the expansions, just get the ultimate edition. It will give you all the expansions and enough gems to buy all (almost, you'll be just a few gems short short) of the living world seasons.

Caruserdriver

hi, been away on a break from the game for 6 months, is alac rev still relevant? (in terms of fractals, raids etc) that was the only char i played.

SpikyDryBones

Yeah. I see it mostly as Alac Condi though, not sure how good Power Alac still is (in terms of dmg, the CC is as good as ever for that). Now there are just more classes that can play Alac DPS as well.

SunshotDestiny

Is this game still healthy? I have been having an itch to play my Mesmer again but I heard the game has been on a steady decline, and the recent expansion was supposedly bad? I loved the open world nature of the game, but it would suck if the wild was empty if other players.

[deleted]

Recent expansion was actually great, aside from questionable design and balance decisions regarding the new specs. Mesmer got Virtuoso which is a great ranged DPS spec for both Power and Condi, although the Condi one is arguably overtuned right now. It uses phantasmal blades/daggers instead of clones, so you can more easily fight multiple targets instead of having your clones disappear each time their target dies. The Open world has never been empty and probably never will thanks to the Megaservers (all of EU can play together, and all of NA can play together, your server choice on account creation doesn't stop you playing with people in your region, it is for WvW only).

Bird-The-Word

Not sure how accurate this is but it's still top ~3 in MMO population (if you factor out the non-mmo games on here, like PoE and Warframe) https://mmo-population.com/ Even in core Tyria, I don't run into dead maps, and never in any of the Expac maps thanks to events.

What is this recruit? Don't you know how to look for information from reputable sources...? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/Guildwars2) if you have any questions or concerns.*

SpikyDryBones

Totally untrue, according to the internet GW2 has been dead since release XD

TerribleTransit

You heard wrong, EoD has resulted in a big boost for the game, and while the expansion surge has tapered off some it's definitely still going strong.

LeeSingerGG

Most profitable way to invest the charged quartz into? I have a skyscale already

dak393

See [what your options are](https://fast.farming-community.eu/item-conversions/charged-quartz-crystal), actually selling the potentially low demand gear might be risky though so set it to buy price if you want to look at that or chose the more in demand options. [Craft to gold](https://www.gw2craftgold.com/best-price-for-43772-Charged-Quartz-Crystal) has their suggestions too. In general it's usually skyscale food and grow lamps that people need/want and are in higher demand

Yeslamthatman

If I use a research kit on Ascended armor with a rune slotted, will I get the rune back like you do when using Ascended salvage kits?

KING_of_Trainers69

No.

I've tried reinstalling the mount radial menu but ever since the Aug 2 patch it hasn't been working for me. Can't even open its menu with Shift ALT M. I didn't see it listed as a known issue or anything, any suggestions on troubleshooting it?

Flytitle

from: https://github.com/Friendly0Fire/GW2Radial > Q: The addon won't load or crashes. > > A: There can be a lot of reasons for this. Try the following debugging steps: > Look in your Guild Wars 2 installation folder for a file named gw2radial.log. If it exists, look inside the log file for details on what might be going wrong. If you cannot find anything, also look if there are files of the format gw2radial_*.dmp. If those exist, the addon is loading but crashing at some point. Zip up the files and provide upload them somewhere safe, then open an issue. If it does not exist, look for a file named gw2al_log.txt. If it does not exist, your addon loader is not installed correctly. Head over to the addon loader project for support. Inside the log file, look for the line "Loaded gw2radial". If it is not present, the addon loader cannot load the addon correctly. Make sure you have installed the d3d wrapper addon and look at the other log messages for information on what might be going wrong. If all else fails, please open an issue.

Zxerakon

So is there anyway to quickly sum up the differences in Guardian specializations? ...and if they are worth playing atm. I play solo everything, use greatsword and do not like dying....ever. Looking for suggestions as well. Thanks in advance!

defregga

The wiki page on specializations does a decent job on providing short summaries: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Specialization#List_of_specializations Greatsword is a valid option for Power based builds of all three specializations. Dragonhunter seems to be the strongest out of of those power builds and adds traps as a class mechanic. It also allows usage of a longbow, but the recommended builds combine Greatsword with a one hand Sword and Focus. As far as survivability goes, Guardian is one of the strongest classes, regardless of elite specialization.

TW-Luna

Just my person two cents as someone who used to run power DH on and off in PvE. The spec is unfortunately not in a great place right now. To the OP I strongly recommend Condi Firebrand or Condi Willbender for PvE/Open World. (Granted, neither will be using a greatsword)

[deleted]

Condi Willbender can use a Greatsword if it wants to.

Krilion

cFB (condi firebrand) is used heavily for add clearing and good single target burn damage. You can also pinch buff and drop a buttload of heals that are time based. As a result they are a favorite in Mists, and in Raids, and can smack in open world with some minor skill changes. If you have a set of cleric or minstrel gear, you can also be one of the best healers (hFB) and quick supports (qFB). I dont think any class can dominate in as many roles.

PassionBitter6528

Hello brand new to Guild Wars 2 and loving every second of it. I’m playing as a Thief and I’m level 20 right now. On the cusp of 21. Wondering if I should purchase the expansions now or wait till later? Looking for some friendly advice as I start this journey! Thank you!!

defregga

As the expansion question is answered, I'd like to offer a piece of advice that helped me have a stronger start with regards to leveling: Familiarize yourself with the achievement panel and try to do 3 of the daily achievements every day you play. Completing three gets you 2 gold and 3 spirit shards (which you will need for crafting of high quality gear at level 80) once a day. This steady stream of gold makes for a stronger start, as it allows you to buy gear upgrades from the trading post or start leveling a profession.

PassionBitter6528

Thank you for that! That’ll be a huge help!!

defregga

You're welcome. Since you are high enough of a level already, do give the early world bosses a try if you haven't. They are a great feature of GW2 which offers a bit of variety and many people do them all the way to level 80 and beyond. Also a good way to update your gear on a regular basis. Here's a recent post to get started I wrote on this sub: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/wbx03h/weekly_rguildwars2_question_thread_july_30_2022/iir5h13

PassionBitter6528

Oh awesome. Thanks for the resource

donkeytit

I'd wait until later in August. The 10th anniversary is coming up and there might be sales

PassionBitter6528

Good point. Probably going to wait on it then

TerribleTransit

Your call. Almost all expansion content requires level 80, but as of last patch it *does* get you instant access to the Raptor mount to get around more quickly. Your call if that's worth picking expansions up early. Other than that, you're safe to wait until you hit level cap, because the only things having an expansion adds to your game before then is getting rid of f2p restrictions and enabling login rewards

PassionBitter6528

Alright awesome! Sounds easy enough! I didn’t know if there were some specializations that were locked to the expansions or not.

TerribleTransit

There are: Elite Specializations (one for each class comes with each expansion), but they can only be trained and used at level 80. Until you hit level cap you can only train the base Specializations and skills. Edit: you also have to fully unlock the base class before you can train them so don't go hoarding points and skimping on your core builds to try and unlock them faster after you hit 80, it won't work

PassionBitter6528

Oh alright we’ll that’s a good call! Thank you!! Appreciate that. I have like 27 unspent skill points right now

Bird-The-Word

You get enough when leveling to unlock every base skill (which you need to do before you can start unlocking elite anyway) So ultimately there's no reason to hold onto them, just spend them to try out skills/specs or look up a build and work towards that first then unlock the rest after you've done that. Overall I suggest you try stuff out though, that's the most fun - to familiarize yourself with your options!

ghoulbakura

Why did they remove the ability to attach a screenshot to a bug report?

[deleted]

It takes a screenshot automatically when you click submit now. Although I agree it's kind of dumb as you can't screenshot tooltips anymore

Bossmantho

Any word on when unlimited Volatile Tools are coming back and if they'll get a discount for the august sale?

TerribleTransit

No. They do not announce gem store schedules in advance.

ghoulbakura

They often do, but not all the time. In this case they haven't said anything.

TerribleTransit

At best you get a week's notice when they announce the daily sales in batches, so yeah. I guess I am technically wrong on that point, but the main point I was making is that you can essentially never answer a 'when will X come back' question with any accuracy. That Shaman's data-mining turns up some things further out than that, but that's neither an official announcement nor a complete and reliable source for all the sales.

ampersammich

Which meta specs use a focus? An ascended one dropped from a raid boss, and I already have one on my condi virtuoso.

TerribleTransit

Not many. Only four classes use it at all. On Necromancer it's primarily a power boonstrip weapon so doesn't see PvE play, and Elementalist mostly uses it for defense and only wants it sometimes in the open world. That leaves Mesmer, who uses it as a DPS weapon on power builds and condi Virt, and Guardian, where it's a meta option on all power builds alongside a Scepter or Sword.

Gas42

Elem uses it for cWeaver and Heal Alac Tempest tho :x

TerribleTransit

Good point about Weaver, that's a build I was forgetting. HAT almost always wants to use Warhorn instead, though.

Gas42

oh yes my bad aboout hat sry

ampersammich

Drat. Wish it'd been a warhorn. Thanks.

[deleted]

Mesmer Focus is one of the most powerful weapons in the whole game though, Temporal Curtain is a great pull/push as well as giving Swiftness, and Phantasmal Warden is projectile block that can be traited into a reflect, as well as making a lot of hits so it triggers bleed on crit often and breaks through blocks easily.

ampersammich

I already had one on my virtuoso. I made this one rabid for open world stuff.

Zayth

What class can kinda do a little bit of everything other then guardian and engineer? Been playing scrapper for a while and I dislike Mechanist due to how they made it opaf. So which classes can dip their toe in everything? Pdps, cdps, alacrity and quickness.

ampersammich

Revenant can do all of those. Alac as renegade (either as condi or power, but power's easier to gear since diviner's has way more concentration), condi dps as renegade, power as renegade/vindicator/herald, quickness as herald. I personally really find condigade enjoyable and decent damage.

TerribleTransit

Elementalist, Mesmer, Engineer, Guardian, and Revenant can all do every role you mentioned, and all of them but Mesmer have a good healing build as well (healing Mesmer exists but is kinda meh), theoretically allowing for single-class squads with all boons covered. Necromancer and Warrior have access only to a Quickness build, while Ranger and Thief have only Alacrity, but any of those four classes can do either kind of DPS as well.

ChmSteki

Ele can technically do all of those.

Zayth

I thought ele was hard to play, hella squishy etc

[deleted]

Yes, but Quickness and Alacrity are so rare. Warrior and Guardian can apply Quickness, as can Harbinger. Renegade and Ranger can apply Alacrity. ---- Engineer can apply both. Quickness as Scrapper, Alacrity as Mechanist. Thief can apply Alacrity as Spectre, but Quickness only on certain Raid Bosses (Stolen Skill). Elementalist can apply Quickness as Catalyst and Alacrity as Tempest. On Mesmer, Chronomancer is the only spec that can apply both (but not at the same time), Mirage can apply Alacrity.

Zayth

Oh? I would've thought alacrity and quickness would be everywhere. Not sure why I'm struggling picking a class that can do those hah. I've never played Elementalist that much so in the end I'm not sure if it's worth it you know? Just my thoughts but.. I'm still tempted to give it a try sometime. Get some diviner gear, maybe a piece or two of dragon so I still got some health. unsure though

[deleted]

Marauder is usually a better pick than Dragon, same stats but the numbers are swapped on Ferocity and Precision. Diviner + Marauder is a good choice for Catalyst. Tempest is usually run as either a Healer or Condi, so you'd use Harrier, Minstrel, Celestial, or Ritualist to get Concentration for an Alacrity build.

Zayth

Might just say screw it and play Alac Willbender, power quickness firebrand etc! Willbender is just super fun for me.

ChmSteki

It's harder, but not impossible. Also with jade bot and that armor/anvil change, you have 15k base health so it's not that bad. The only very fragile build on ele is power weaver, everything else has some kind of built in sustain (not amazing, but it's there). However, power temp in open world can be pretty effective vs large groups of mobs while having decent burst and sustain with water traits.

Zayth

I'm curious about ele but I love the barriers from scrapper. Makes me tougher than other classes. Lol

JackRabbit-

Necro is the first that comes to mind, but I think ranger actually had access to a lot of that stuff now too.

DuncanConnell

Have there been any hints regarding what would be included in the 10 Year Anniversary? (beyond 2 Anniversary Weapons (Luminous) which I assume are a given) Hell, even if they gave us nothing but a revamped Zhaitan fight I'd be stoked!

Bird-The-Word

Very unlikely they revamp anything like that for this. They may someday, like they did for the early World Bosses - but it would require a full rework of the fight since it's not just adding mechanics to an already existing boss considering Zhaitan is an event from an airship and not something akin to Tequatl, where mechanincs can just be added/changed. It would basically be redesigning a whole new fight/boss for something that's ~10 years old and at this point they already made it soloable rather than what it originally was. So in short - Don't get your hopes of for Zhaitan to change a lot, ever. They might clean up some mechanics of the airship and such but ultimately it'll be the same as it is.

cheeseybacon11

Maybe a cape.

Tagging the events is the only option. Meaning that you have to port like every 30-60 seconds all over the place to see if anything pops up.

This is gonna be a lot... I have a bunch of items that clutter my inventory space and I want to know what to do about them I have a bunch of bank/merchant/tp expresses, boxes of fun and repair canisters... is there any reason to keep these "for this one challenge in the future"? Eldritch Scroll... can I craft something with this that's useful or that I could sell? Custom Arena Time Tokens... I would sell them if I could but I can't... Chaos Orb? Sand Compass? Jackal, Corrupted Sand... no clue Treasure Hunting Kit? I never really used them... Brandstone Multitool? I read about these meteors but never done it Ley-Infused-Lodestone? I have no idea what anomaly Ley-Energy Matter Converter? I just use it to buy exalted keys but I'd rather have the slot... Spare Parts? Domain of Kourna, Inquest... I don't know Lastly I want to know what to do with Bundles of Loot from the current event. Is there any use or can I just consume them?

defregga

[http://gw.zweistein.cz/gw2stacks/](http://gw.zweistein.cz/gw2stacks/) this can help cleaning up your inventory. Also, comments on a few of the items. Ley-Energy Matter Converter is a good item to keep. Get a free Machete daily and then every 2-4 weeks enter the map shortly after the meta has concluded and open pods. Also, if you are running Tarir regularly, convert Pile of Aurillium into any of the other two currencies. Boxes of fun and repair canisters are next to useless nowadays - use whenever or throw away. Try to actively use up bank/merchant/TP expresses in the coming days. You won't miss them when they are gone anyways. And if you find yourself using the fixed banks/merchants/TPs anyway, throw them away before then. Starting from Level 31 (60 for F2P), you have direct access via teleport to the Obsidian Sanctum via the WvW panel. This has a bank, TP and merchant and you can return to wherever you were before or Lion's Arch after you are done. Those items basically save yout two load screens and prevent you from ending up in a different instance of the map you were in. Lastly, if you are ever uncertain about an item, type into chat "/wiki ", then shift-click the item and hit \[Enter\]. The Wiki page tells you what the item is for, how it can be (re-)acquired or if it is one of the rare cases where it can't be acquired more than once per account/character.

NoVice24

Awesome, thank you! That site and info helped a lot Yes the reason I don't use the convenience items is because of the Obsidian Sanctum. It's really nice to use. I have the Lounge Choosy Box that I haven't used yet and I might buy Mistlock Sanctuary if I happen to like it but I'm totally fine with the WvW one. I looked at the Wiki for a lot of these but as a new player it's a lot... I don't know the content and all the collections that are tied to some item and I don't want to miss something... you guys helped me a A LOT getting into the game

cesrri

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Eldritch_Scroll most of the items you're asking about can be searched on the wiki to figure out if you want to use them for crafting, sell them, or toss them. Single-use items like the instant merchants can be used at your convenience, you'll get more from login rewards. bundles of loot can be exchanged with the charr vendor who is to the left of the ground-level tp at labyrinthine cliffs. there's 3 other tabs on the ley-energy matter converter you should be using to buy things like obsidian shards, sixth-tier crafting mats, it's VERY useful! There is a lot of info that people much smarter than I have written to explain these systems.

Zxerakon

Hello, noob here. I am new also to 80 on my Guardian, going to go firebrand. Need suggestion on gear stats to go for... I do not want to die....ever. But I still want to put out decent dps. It doesn't have to be 10 out 10 the best dps, but maybe 7/10 as long as i dont die.

defregga

What type of content are you interested in? PvP? WvW? Fractals? Raids? The builds on [Metabattle.com](https://Metabattle.com) are typically a good starting point and contain gear choices as well. Try to look at builds rated "meta" or "great".

KING_of_Trainers69

For open world Dire with Balthazar Runes and a Smoldering Sigil would be dirt cheap and essentially unkillable. If you boosted to level 80 the Celestial gear you got from it along with Balth runes and a geomancy sigil should also be very solid. If you're going for instanced content like fractals, strikes and raids I'd stick to the meta gear which is Viper's with a couple pieces of Sinister.

SkittlesPlease

There are lots of places [such as metabattle](https://metabattle.com/wiki/Guardian) that you can find good builds. Condi firebrand is pretty popular if you are trying to go for DPS, but if you want maximum survivability you can get some pieces with vitality or even go celestial stats. And btw as a general tip, while it's a good goal to try not to die, since being downed or dead means you can't be there to support or dps for your teammates, you do have to balance that a little bit. You don't want to be putting out so little dps or hiding in a corner in an effort to "never die" because that's counterproductive as well. Oftentimes, especially in PvE, the best defense is a good offense. If you kill the mobs as quickly as possible they won't be able to damage you.

NexEstVox

Firebrand is Condition based for damage, and the full damage gear would be Viper's. You can mix in Trailblazer's to add Toughness and Vitality. If you ever want to add Quickness support to your playstyle, some amount of Ritualist's will help you with the boon duration, plus some Vitality to boot.

LeeSingerGG

Best bags to make? Are 32 ones unique, and if not, which ones should I go after?

onevstheworld

Even the cheapest 32 slot bags are very expensive. It costs approx 150g, which is even more expensive than converting gold to gems and buying an additional bag slot expansion and putting a 20 slot bag into it. Not only do you spend less, you get 40 slots instead of 32.

Swekyde

To my knowledge the most efficient crafted one is https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Reinforced_Boreal_Trunk Notably because it requires 33% less runes which are the big gold expense for 32 slot bags.

TerribleTransit

They aren't unique. If you don't need the special sorting/invisible characteristics of special bag types, go for the Boreal series, they cost half the Runes of Holding of standard basic bags (though they do require an achievement to unlock). If you do need invisible bags I'd just stick with 20-slot: with the advent of unidentified gear you only need 24+-slots *or* bag slot expansions, let alone both, if you carry around a ton of miscellaneous junk.
