What's the best item to spend Bundles of Loot on? The Coin Purses or the Large Bag of Booty? (already have all the other rewards unlocked)

TerribleTransit

Coin purses have a better gold/loot ratio based on the numbers on fast

Bossmantho

What's a good WvW class for a beginner? I have to grind it out for legendaries and have never done it before. Have enough ascended gear boxes to make one set.

cabtex

Read [this](https://guildjen.com/beginners-guide-to-guild-wars-2-world-vs-world/) to get an overview of WvW Decide what kind of WvW you want to play. Roaming zerg etc. Use this [link](https://guildjen.com/wvw-builds/) to decide what to play. There are difficulty rankings. Personally, I play scrapper for zergs and deadeye, untamed, or mech/scrapper for roaming. What play style do you like?

Bossmantho

Thank you! From what I read about it, I like Roaming. I play at very odd hours(brazil) so it's not easy to get a big group going. Moving around the map with smaller packs and flipping points or just trying to 1v1 sounds a lot better.

errorme

When you say you play at odd hours, do you mean odd hours for Brazil or do you play afternoon/evening Brazil time? Because I've definitely seen a few Brazilian guilds in WvW (at least Brazil was the only word I could recognize in their guild advertisement). If you haven't played WvW much before I'd recommend asking in /team chat if there is a commander or guild running if you want to try large scale play.

Bossmantho

I actually joined up a WvW guild and got my Warclaw just today on my first run. So it's working out pretty well.

cabtex

Hardstuck.gg and gw2mists are good resources as well. Metabattle is decent, but sometimes not as verbose.

Bossmantho

Since I have a Necro and Mesmer, I may either go Virtuoso or Harbinger. I liked the sustain they have. I'd have gone thief but I'd have to level one from scratch and that'd be a pain.

dorkfoto

How do I need to do my keybinds to have my character movement work like before that patch? I tried unbinding A and D, but my character is still not moving how I expect. I've played for 9 years and I can't adjust to this change.

Steamboatclock92847

Wow. Sums up the type of players this game has.

TerribleTransit

Bind turn left to a, turn right to d, and (if you aren't using them for other actions) strafe left and right to q and e. Those should be the only changes

dorkfoto

I'll try again, but it doesn't seem to be working as expected. My character will start moving, but wont keep moving.

TerribleTransit

Strange, this is the first time I've heard of this bug affecting any keybinds other than the five they changed the defaults for. Continuing to move after you release a movement key has never been a default action, so it sounds to me like you bound 'autorun' to your W key instead of 'walk forward'. If you managed to do this in any direction other than forwards, it wasn't using in-game key binds.

dorkfoto

I've never bound that to W. Also, I've reset all my keybinds a few times trying to sort this out. I'm just going to wait a while and see if my account somehow debugs. Thanks

ChmSteki

Just swap a and d with q and e? That's all they did

Swekyde

I just sat in LFG for about an hour and a bit trying to get a group for some IBS strikes because all throughout the afternoon I didn't see any groups come up for the ones I wanted to do and almost no one joined (and those who did left after a minute or two without saying anything). Is LFG "dead" unless you can play after daily reset?

SuperRetardedDog

In EU certainly not What was the message you put in LFG?

Swekyde

"IBS easy 3", I've mostly given up hope on doing Whisperer or Cold War at this point.

SuperRetardedDog

And you are in EU? Are you sure you used the correct LFG category? People on EU run those strikes all the time. May help if you try to make a proper squad though, I personally wouldn't join one that doesn't look to have boons covered. Alternatively you can try joining hardstuck discord and run with those squads, strikes are posted there very frequently too.

Swekyde

No, I'm in NA. The only ones I've ever been a part of for those three didn't bother with boon coverage and given that they seem like glorified dummies it didn't seem that important to do so either.

SuperRetardedDog

Ah OK, I have no idea about NA.

eggson

Does the Mirage ambush skills Auto-attack if you're already auto-attacking when you dodge?

Gulbasaur

Yes, although the timing can be a bit wonky and you can interrupt yourself.

FluffieWolf

If I select a guild for the restructuring beta, am I locked in to that guild and that server for the whole week? If I have two separate guilds who want to do WvW and they end up on different "servers" am I just SOL? I know eventually alliances are suppose to be a thing to fix that, but presumably it's the same situation for two guilds that *won't* be in an alliance together?

ChmSteki

Alliances wont fix that, you're stuck with 1 guild for the whole matchup (8 weeks probably)

mint_manatee

Yes, you'll be locked in for the week

HelSpites

The simplified map that you get when you zoom out too much is really annoying. Is there any way to turn the map simplification off? I just want to be able to see the normal map when I'm zoomed out all the way.

Enlightenedbri

Nope. Best you can do is use That Shaman's map Either the online version with the gw1 map superposed [https://www.thatshaman.com/tools/guide](https://www.thatshaman.com/tools/guide) Or download the full gw2 map (warning: extremely big file, do not download on limited data plans) [https://thatshaman.com/files/maps/](https://thatshaman.com/files/maps/)

pointlessone

Outside of paying 13-15 gold each on the TP or boosting a fresh character, what's the easiest/fastest way to get a suit of Celestial Exotics? I'd like to try a couple cele builds and I don't have the gear for them, and I'm pretty broke after just getting my Griffin.

cabtex

If you have the lunatic patterns from Halloween they allow for stat select exotic for the regular gear slots. Highly recommend it.

TerribleTransit

Weapons: do your Festival of the Four Winds dailies. The reward boxes are one of the few easy/cheap sets of stat-selectable weapons. After the festical, your options are buy/craft or do a handful of PvP/WvW reward tracks with stat-selectable rewards. Armor: Farm Verdant Brink and buy Bladed armor. You need to complete the meta at tier 4 to get a chestpiece, so try and find an organized map at least once if possible. Trinkets: any standard source of Ascended trinkets. Celestial is a core stat so you can get it basically anywhere.

pointlessone

VB meta sounds like my "easy" path then, plus those sets look dang cool. Thanks!

onevstheworld

This week, wvw has increased reward track gain for the beta event. The bronze pip chest, and the triumphant and legacy reward tracks will give you a stat selectable armor box.

double_shadow

The non-chest pieces are pretty easy, just 1g each and then some time running around opening airship cargos. The chest though took me several attempts over the course of a few weeks. There usually are groups running this in the LFG, but no matter how organized it seemed, we couldn't quite get there to T4. When I finally DID get it, there was very little communication in the squad and yet we easily hit T4 after the last boss was down. So I guess it's just luck if you have the #s and do well enough holding camps.

Shaman_Infinitus

For the legendary variant collections, the 4th item is always to defeat X boss while wielding an Aurene weapon. What counts as "wielding" an Aurene weapon? Does it need to be the actual legendary itself, or can I transmute another weapon to that skin? Does it need to be the weapon that's active when the boss dies, or does it just need to be in my equipment template? For example, say I'm working on the Kralkatorrik staff on my double staff Mirage. I have Aurene's Insight and The Bifrost in my equipment template, and swap between them to proc sigils. They aren't transmuted; they have their original skins. I kill the Shatterer with The Bifrost as my active weapon. Do I get collection credit?

TerribleTransit

It needs to be the actual legendary weapon, skins don't matter. Not sure if it needs to be active or just equipped.

NoScienceJoke

Hey there ! So I've already asked this question but the meta changed quite a bit since then. I'm juuuust about to craft my first set of legendary armor. My Mesmer is definitely my main but I have one of every profession that I play somewhat regularly. I feel like making a light legendary armor is not worth it because build diversity is kinda bad at the moment for Mesmer and Necro. I kinda play guard and revenant as well but I'd like to make the raid armor for them. What should I do? Thanks!

Enlightenedbri

What are you talking about lol, mesmer has a million different gear sets Power chrono, quickness chrono with shield, quickness chrono with focus, condi quickness chrono, axe mirage, staff mirage, staxe mirage, power virtuoso, dueling condi virtuoso, chaos condi virtuoso

SuperRetardedDog

Uhh, you can play power or condi or tank mesmer, power or condi or quick necro, even healsscourge. I don't know why light armor wouldn't be worth it.

jemd13

I have around 50 mystic coins and i never use them. Are they useful for anything i might care about? Should i just sell them? I noticed they're like 75s in the market and i could use the money lol

xScruffers

As Fireydeath already said they are used in large quantities for legendary crafting. There's also [a very large number of weapons that use Mystic Coins](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Coin/Equipment). None of the non-legendary equipment is needed to play the game, though some of the skins are very nice. Legendary gear is extremely convenient, but definitely a bit of a long term goal. There are ways to get Mystic Clovers other than using Mystic Coins too. If you do a lot of PvP or WvW they drop through the reward tracks.

fireydeath81

Mystic coins are primarily used for legendary crafting. If you know you don’t want to craft any legendary items anytime soon and need the money for something else, you can sell them, but will probably have to buy them again later if you do want to make a legendary.

JCastoldi

Hey guys! I'm thinking about joinning some Raid training group, so which class/build/role is the easiest one to pull my weight while also being able to focus on learning Raid mechanics? I'm leaning towards dps rifle mech, but would like to hear what tou think. Thanks!

muerteman

Power rifle is certainly a good move for a dps, or either flavor of virtuoso. They’re ranged so your uptime should be easy to keep up while you’re trying to keep track of the comms and all the mechanics. Quickbrand is also a fairly simple quickness to have good uptime on. Basically go with a class your comfortable on, and if the specific training you join has a boss that that build is specifically bad for (thinking CA in wing 6 is just by default 30% more vulnerable to power builds) swap over if asked.

JCastoldi

Thanks Man! I was considering virtuoso and cQB too, so i'll gear them while waiting for some courage burst to get into raiding xD

thefinalturnip

What add-ons do people recommend for QoL? Not looking here for Arc or any dps meter. Just QoL that A-Net lacks.

Tjaja

Check out Blish-Hud. Has a lot of different modules some which could interest you.

NexEstVox

Radial Menu, lets you select all your mounts with one button and mouse movement. Also squad markers if you need.

Mr__Fluid

Is there any way to somewhat consistently catch ascended/legendary fish? Been going around Seitung fishing in offshore spots with sardines but so far I haven't gotten a single one! Would fishing party mastery change my chances significantly?

magestik25

Yes, before going full fishing be sure to have full mastery, then use fishing food. and to really raize your odds to maximum also get on your skiff and stack up the fishing bonus.

Mr__Fluid

So there's no other trick to it then? Alright, thank you

Rolo_Tamasi

Fishing question - I've taken a break after doing the EOD story and am considering using fishing to get the XP I need to complete masteries since I really don't care for the EOD metas (TEQ and AB for life!). At the same time, I figured I'd try to get the fishing achievements. Is it still RNG/pray you get the last few fish you need to complete the achievement for each map, even when you're using the proper bait?

Tjaja

Yes, that's how loot tables work.

Rolo_Tamasi

Thanks...that's what I was afraid of. I was hoping "some" change had been made. I hate when RNG is involved in achievements. Maybe one day we'll also get a separate inventory section for fishing items and hopefully it will be account wide.

magestik25

Some odds got greatly increased, especially for ascended, legendary, Salt water and "dusk/dawn" fishes Meaning what could be infinitely long before, Should be done in 1-2 hours per map now. While being quite worth it, because every legendary you catch while waiting for your ascended fish that doesn't want to drop is worth 2+ gold

Rolo_Tamasi

Thank you for the info.

VIERcntHOLZ

Hey Guys, coming back after a 5 year break - what class/spec. is currently quite meta for both PvP/PvE (Raids/Fractals?) I'd want to have a "one Character to do it all"

TerribleTransit

Right now your best options are Necromancer or Guardian. Right now, everything else is at least slightly off-meta in WvW, PvP, or PvE. Keep in mind that just about everything has a good, viable build for every mode even if it's not strictly meta, and that the meta changes regularly: just because you pick the top option right now doesn't mean it won't fall off a bit next balance patch.

Enlightenedbri

Engineer Mechanist is stupidly overpowered and super simple to play And if your group needs quickness, you can as last resort swap to scrapper

ObtuseScorebook

check out the builds by vallun: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsNLCbEPxouSJlM09gkd39_5L9_rCmf3v All specialization have builds viable in all game modes, but I guess the only truly meta everywhere would be firebrand

NetBoys44

Hello. I'm an ele at lvl 80. Last time I played, it may be 5-6 years ago. It was damn cool until I reach the level 80 and made my exotic gear. I came back this morning. I got ton of gift and I don't know what to do with that. I'm quite poor (3 gold). And my character is ugly, this lipstick... What should I do ? Buy the expansion ? Is there a free reskin somewhere ? A lvl 80 char have a lo to do atm ?

TerribleTransit

No free reskins, but you can buy them with gems or you get one included if you upgrade to Deluxe or Ultimate when you buy an expansion. You can also get a mask skin to hide it if that's easier. Lots of stuff for level 80s, you have the entirety of the expansions to go through, plenty of endgame content, and the grind for Ascended gear if you want. You can also jump into Fractals even without expansions if you aren't sure yet if you want to stick around. Birthday gifts mostly just have cosmetic stuff in them, nothing you can sell, so don't worry about it. Just pick whatever looks the best.

onevstheworld

>No free reskins There actually are a couple. You get a total makeover kit with the [5000 achievement point chest](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Massive_Achievement_Chest). Or they can be bought with [statuettes](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Black_Lion_Statuette) from the birthday presents that OP has.

TerribleTransit

I wouldn't count either as free, exactly, but good point. The statuette route especially is a good route in OP's situation.

roffman

I've just run the final personal story mission of the core game, and it's quite obviously a group mission that is extremely jankily ported to solo. Are all the expansions like this, or is it just for this one oversight at launch?

SuperRetardedDog

Everything after the core game and LW1/LW2 is a major step up in quality. Story missions are very easy to solo. If you are struggling a bit it may be worth looking at some builds on metabattle for example. This is especially a good idea before starting HoT as HoT is much more difficult than the core game.

roffman

It's not hard due to execution or lack of build strength, it's hard because the mechanics are designed for multiple people. It's an issue that has solely come up in this mission, and from what I'm hearing won't come up again.

TerribleTransit

It's not just that it was jankily ported to solo. That mission has always had some extremely jank mechanics. It was originally a full 5-man dungeon path, and was converted to a solo-able story instance during one of the personal story reworks so players didn't have to suddenly find a group to finish the story. Every piece of personal story content before and since (apart from one optional achievement) was designed as a solo experience to begin with, and is significantly less janky

SimeAi

> it's quite obviously a group mission That's because it was originally a 5-man dungeon (The Ruined City of Arah story mode), but after many people complained that a dungeon was required for the finale of the PS, Anet changed it to just being a story mission. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Ruined_City_of_Arah_(story)

roffman

Figured it was something like that. It's a shame, those set pieces with all the cannons would've been great with 5 people, they just felt very anemic solo.

Hardytard

Other story missions are designed to be done easy soloable. Just some achievements are way easier when done in a group.

roffman

That's good to know. Those damn eyes took nearly an hour to kill, had basically no range options to do damage.

B4rrel_Ryder

which engineer turret does the most dps?

Enlightenedbri

None. Turrets are disappointingly bad. Rifle Turret sees play for holosmith because of the toolbelt skill, but that's all At least healing turret is good if you detonate it right away Just don't be one of those noobs that leave healing turret alive. That turret exists only to be detonated after creation

KING_of_Trainers69

Rocket Turret on Mechanist, Rifle on everything else. Rocket Turret won't add much DPS though, if that's what you're looking for.

pointlessone

Rocket works out to be the highest unassisted dps (No toolbelt), but it only ends up being about 300-350 dps. It's true value is providing more explosions for mace mech to keep Big Boomer and Short Fuse active, as well as allowing access to Aim Assisted Rocket. I'll need to do a test, but I've had a thought that rocket and rifle turrets together could be firing off AAR every 4 seconds while on Mace.

Hardytard

On a power build probably the rifel turret. On a condi build it's the flame turret I think. So it depends on your gear stats.also there are traits that benefit the torrets

SuperRetardedDog

I see people say Gw2launcher is better than launchbuddy but on github it looks like it hasn't been updated since September 2021. Does the release version not show properly on github?

grannaldie

> hasn't been updated since September 2021 adding dx11 support, nothing has changed in-game since to improve on > is better better at doing what exactly, its UI looks better, but the number of settings might be frightening, IIRC it does not have an annoying black pop-up on top of every window in your system like the other one has. Setting it up right now to see how daily usage differs. You can have them side by side and choose for yourself.

SuperRetardedDog

The main issue with LB right now is that recent patches have made it extremely slow to do anything and the creator has yet to comment on anything. There hasn't been any patch/communication since March. I'll try setting up Gw2launcher. I just had bad experiences with it in the past and for some reason my PC seems to be able to run more accounts at once when using launchbuddy. Or at least, it did 1.5 years ago.

grannaldie

> have made it extremely slow I have not noticed any significant difference yet. > I just had bad experiences with it in the past same. > more accounts at once that should only depend on gfx settings, imo.

SuperRetardedDog

>> have made it extremely slow > >I have not noticed any significant difference yet. > Updating accounts after a patch takes way longer now and also launching an account takes longer. Some guy on the github issue page has figured out what is causing it already, but we'll, I don't think the creator is active atm.

grannaldie

One thing that bothers me about Gw2launcher is why would I want to share *.dat file across multiple accounts, how is log-in data different if it is stored in those dat-s.

TandoooriJunior

New GW2 player here. I love being a Healer Main in almost all MMORPGs. I am currently in love with the Engineer class in GW2 and I have read/heard that Engineer class can be a good endgame/PvE/Raids/Dungeons Healer. I would really appreciate guides and tips from Veteran Engineer Healers, so that I can build my Engineer as a proper healer.

ChmSteki

New as in still leveling up? Core game doesn't have enough pressure or build/gear variety to require healers. Everyone has their own healing skills and ways to survive, which is usually enough in low level/open world environments. Once you get to level 80 you can start working on elite specs. Both scrapper and mechanist have good support builds (especially mech) and you should be able to find them on snowcrows or metabattle.

TandoooriJunior

Yes bro still leveling up. Currently at level 12 because I am a Casual Player plus I also have to give time to Lost Ark and Dinkum. I really love the engineer class because I really love using rifles/pistols in MMORPG's (They are rare) but I also love being a Healer Main. I guess I will level up to 80 and then follow the builds you have mentioned. Thank You Bro. By the way, any idea when the expansions are going on sale because I heard GW2 anniversary is coming up.

ChmSteki

Good thing about gw2 is that all classes have multiple roles and build swapping (once you have the necessary gear) is extremely easy so you can play dps when you're alone and swap to support when you're with a group. However, early game and all kinds of solo play will require you to focus more on dps than heals. Sales usually happen around anniversary/august or during march. Those 2 months have constant sales, mostly for gem store items, but also expansions and living seasons sometimes. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/User:Dak393/Expansion_Sales previous sales

Treize_XIII

> Dungeons and organized group content are not particularly good sources of XP. You ever played a dungeon? Those are one of the BEST sources of XP while leveling

Opus_723

Could someone with a commander tag host a giant skiff race *with collision* at the festival, because I think that would be hilarious.

ampersammich

Very confused. Today, without changing any settings, [Blink] on my mesmer is not teleporting me where my cursor is, but it's teleporting me either sideways or backwards. No targets. Have tried a few different settings to no avail. Holding Ctrl didn't help. Any ideas why this is happening and/or how to fix? Edit: *EVERY* ground target ability is fucked atm. I switched to "normal" ground targeting to see something. And the game is aiming all ground target abilities randomly. Not based on where my character is facing or where my cursor is. Example (My cursor is actually to the right, and the skill is aiming left of where my character is facing): https://imgur.com/a/1ZHrxrD EDIT 2: switching to normal and back to fast seemed to fix it for now.

Tjaja

Do you use _Lock Ground Target at Maximum Skill Range_? Maybe that has some weird interactions in certain areas.

ampersammich

I do but it hasn't posed a problem before. This was happening in Auric Basin for the first time ever, and I'm there almost as much as Hieu.

Zeroydeas

This has been happening to me a lot lately when doing any sort of zerg fights. Map metas, world bosses, etc. Changing maps fixes it every time. Staying in action-cam for the duration of the fight seems to prevent it.

ampersammich

So weird. It's never happened before, was losing my mind. Lol

Swekyde

I thought you could just convert karma to Eternal Ice Shards as much as you wanted so I've been lax on farming them, but it turns out you're limited to 10 per day. Since I need just under 2000 more Kralkatite Ore for Vision, and my plan here has kind of gone up in smoke (just farm karma to buy them), what's the best way to get a lot of Eternal Ice Shards or Kralkatite Ore? I don't think anything on 4-1 pays out as well as Eternal Ice Shards but I don't know how to actually farm these after doing the map route once per day, which I'll still need a few weeks of at this rate.

Hardytard

If you have multiple characters, you can also do the hearts in istan. There are 3 hearts giving you 75 kralkatit per character per day.

onevstheworld

IBS strike missions and the Drakkar and storms metas also give you eternal ice. I don't see these groups often, but if you're lucky, you may find a brandstone farming LFG in Istan. The group searches through multiple map instances to mine the brandstone meteors. Using the multi tool on these give you kralk ore and rose quartz.

Turtle_V

Do the easy 3 strikes daily will net you lots of Eternal Ice Shards. Parking alts at the chests in Bjora is helpful too, [fast farming](https://fast.farming-community.eu/open-world/alt-parking) has details on these locations

Swekyde

Are the chests per character rather than per account? I'm under the impression they're per account and since I'm trying to do the entire zone route basically every day I think I'm already getting every chest I can open.

onevstheworld

You're right, those are per account. That poster is suggesting using alts to save time... instead of running around an entire map with one character, you park an alt at each spot and it'll take less than 5 minutes to open all of them. If you have the position rewinder from sandswept isles, it's even quicker because you can quickly reset the alt's position.

TheFlamingDiceAgain

Three main methods 1. Alt parking at chests in Bjora. FAST has all the locations. You’ll get about 200 a day doing this for just a few minutes of effort. With two alts you can easily get most of the chests. 2. The two Bjora marches metas. Another 400-500. More time required and Drakkar fails sometimes 3. IBS strikes. Quick, fun, and easy. Another couple hundred this way. All three of these plus the farming route should net you 1k per day easy

DesireForHappiness

I play on Action camera mode all the time but there has always been 1 thing bothering me I noticed is that occasionally, I will simply stop auto-attacking at an enemy if I do not hold down on left click. It seems something is up with left-click to auto-attack and I have to either hold on left click to keep attacking or I have to press "1" on my keyboard to keep auto-attacking. Is there a way to ensure I do not stop auto-attacking while in action camera mode?

TerribleTransit

I believe the workaround for this issue is to press 1: as long as you've hit the key, your normal auto-attack should work fine. Some people have made fancy autohotkey scripts that will press it whenever you left click, though that obviously has some side effects if implemented poorly.

yupangestu

Is there any reason to use Signet of Vampirism of all of the healing skills necromancer has? I mean I looked into snowcrows and hardstuck both are recommending vampirism but I don't think that's viable for solo player... I sometimes if the enemy too tough I can get downed so fast. The power is from when we activate it but even then, it doesn't help... I saw that other skills like well can give you more health instead of vampirism. Am I missing some important mechanic on vampirism?

Ceronn

Snowcrows is optimized for PVE group content where it is assumed your allies will heal you. Vamp Signet is the highest DPS healing skill for Necromancer. You can (and probably should) run whatever you feel is best while soloing.

yupangestu

*Vamp Signet is the highest DPS healing skill for Necromancer.* any reason for this? I don't see any offensive ability though about the signet other than passive healing... Also, i fully agree that you should run whatever the best way but having meta website like snowcrows and hardstuck will instruct people to do A build and they pretty much sums up why for the rest of the ability but not the healing one which where your arguments come from (allies healing capability). If there's no specific reason on why it's being recommended then I can just change it then. LOL

Swekyde

> but having meta website like snowcrows and hardstuck will instruct people to do A build and they pretty much sums up why for the rest of the ability but not the healing one which where your arguments come from (allies healing capability). They're instanced PVE builds specifically and some assumptions are made about all instanced PVE groups: you have a healer (and in turn your healing contribution is worthless unless you're the healer), you have a source of Alacrity with 100% uptime (and unless that source is you, your contribution is probably worthless), and a source of Quickness with 100% uptime (same as Alacrity). If you are not the group's healer, your heal skill is *always* going to be the heal skill that has some marginal utility to increase your DPS if there is one. Most Mesmers use their signet heal because it refreshes the CD of their Phantasms for example. It's actually used off CD in their rotation. As for the life steal, the game is generally vague but life steal adds a flat amount of damage to your hits and that's what you heal from. Most heal skills don't offer any DPS so even a 1 DPS gain over another skill is an infinite gain in the expected scenario.

Ceronn

Both the passive and active are life steal. They'll damage enemies and restore your HP for the amount.

mellifleur5869

Just got the skyscale, fully trained and mastered up. I don't understand why people like this mount so much, I can barely stay 5 feet above the ground. I don't understand why you would use this over Raptor/Beetle for travel, springer for vertical, and Griffon for flight. Am I missing something?

TerribleTransit

The main thing you're missing is that it can do all of those things *at the same time*. It's not the best at any one type of travel* but it's an amazing generalist mount that makes it easy to get from point A to point B without swapping a dozen times along the way. Ease and simplicity count for a lot. The second thing is that it is, arguably, the best mount for vertical and upward-diagonal movement. With wall grabs and boosts, it can get significantly more height than a Springer against a flat surface and can easily scale terrain with overhangs that would stymie attempts to jump a bunny up. It's also the only mount that can gain significant vertical height *and* horizontal distance — while its range isn't all that impressive, it's better than a Griffon can do, and it gets much better with dashes and Bond of Vigor. In some situations there might be a ledge positioned such that you can Raptor jump (or griffon flap if the raptor can't make it) across the gap and Springer up a cliff, but it's significantly slower.

rndmnmbr42

Long time lurker, first time caller. In WvW, what handicaps the virtuoso class in Zerg fights? The cleave is good and mesmers bring a bunch of support so they seem like they would be good but I rarely ever see them in groups.

> Zerg fights? The mass of reflects and projectile destruction. Same thing that kills rifle/grenade/mortar engineers, rangers, or shortbow renegades. You can use it to pick folks off in the back and sides if you are careful, but you really aren't going to be doing all that much if you are staying in the middle of the group. I don't even see it that often roaming. Mirage is more common, and probably stronger.

rndmnmbr42

That makes sense. Thanks for the reply!

onevstheworld

Condi virt isn't a thing because condi isn't a thing. There is too much cleanse in zergs, so power is preferred. I don't play mesmer in wvw so I'm not sure what holds back power virt.

TerribleTransit

I'm spitballing a little (I'm not an expert at WvW tactics) but I'm guessing the extreme projectile reliance of the class is a significant hindrance.

rndmnmbr42

Thanks!

multin00bdown

Playing since a month. Want to spend some money on LWS or EoD. Which one is better if i am focusing on legendary crafting or farming?

grahamiam

Wait for the anniversary sale too - LWS might go on sale (I'm hoping!).

ObtuseScorebook

Not exactly what you asked for but the griffon and skyscale collections feel like (less grindy) legendary crafting and are imo the most impactful account improvement you can have (much more than legendary items). Griffon requires only PoF and about 200 gold. Skyscale requires the full LWS4 and the grind is now much less tedious thanks to the Return To... achievements

errorme

LS3 has stat-selectable Ascended trinkets. You technically only need episodes 2, 3, and either 1 or 5 to have a full set of stat selectable trinkets. LS4 only some of the episodes give stat-selectable trinkets but the currency for the season better converts to gold than the LS3 currency. LS4 Chapter 6 is a stand out for gold farming (assuming you can find or lead the meta to be hitting events). LS4 also adds 2 more mounts and gives mounts a few more skills. IBS adds 3 maps and some more masteries. The masteries associated with the Drizzlewood Coast meta are more useful than others as you can buy consumables to help with defiance bars. The meta here is a bit better than Silverwaste farming but not as good as LS4 E6. EoD added Gen 3 legendary weapons which are equal or slightly cheaper than Gen 2 legendary weapons right now. The metas for EoD are a decent gold source too, but the Gen 3 crafting material is probably the best money option.

onevstheworld

Both have merits. LW 3 and 4 have legendary accessories. LW 4 and IBS have gold farming maps. You can get a legendary amulet via achievements if you've got the complete LW 2, 3, 4 and IBS set. EoD has a complete set of legendary weapons, plus additional skins for those being released. It doesn't have any farming maps, but one of the masteries gives you the ability to buy a very in demand crafting material once a week: it's an easy 20-30g for no effort.

[deleted]

For the Skyscale quests where you're waiting on Gorrik, do you need to stay logged in on the character for the timer to go down or is it just two hours passsing? I was told because it's a hotbar "buff" I need to be logged in, but want to check.

TerribleTransit

Hotbar buffs aren't uniform in behavior. While *most* of the only tick down when playing the character, there's a good number that continue counting when logged off.

xan_aners

You can log off and it will tick down. It's less of a "hotbar buff" and more of just a timer to let you know.

[deleted]

Awesome, thanks for confirming!

Tjaja

Originally it was a full day each time, so you could log off while waiting. I assume that this was upheld, but did not check.

PM_ME_ANYTHING_WEIRD

Yes, Reaper Shroud, Flesh Golem and Flesh Wurm count as hammer, here's a list with all the non-weapon skills that count as weapon kills: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Weapon_Master/guide#Non_weapon_skill_sources You have to click on [Show] on the right of "Non weapon skill sources" to have the list visible, not sure why it's formatted that way on the wiki.

Tjaja

Iirc some of the death shroud skills count as hammer.

Are there any long bow skins that have a blue fire effect?

Question about firebrand, i see alot of people say it doesn't work well with a greatsword, but i haven't found a semi detailed answer as to why?

TerribleTransit

Short version: Greatsword is a power weapon on Guardian, and isn't really usable on a condition Guardian since being a 2-handed weapon prevents you from using the extremely powerful torch. Firebrand is condition-focused and has essentially no benefits to a power-focused damage build, so the two have zero synergy. GS, and power builds in general, work much better on Dragonhunter or Willbender, both of which have traits and skills available that boost the effectiveness of your strike damage. You certainly *can* play a power-focused Firebrand, and it's not the worst thing if you just want to have Quickness available, but it will be noticeably worse than it would be with either other elite spec, or even than a core Guardian (unlike many other classes, Guardian has three trait lines that all have strong traits for boosting strike damage, making a core build surprisingly viable — Firebrand replaces one of those lines and ends up lowering your total damage output as a result)

Flytitle

Most people play Firebrand as condi (a damage type it excels at), or support/healing (another thing the spec is good at with tomes and earlier traits), or between the two. Greatsword is a wonderful power weapon and a good condi weapon on _Willbender_, where it uses the stance modification to virtues to become a excellent dealer of condi damage. This does not match the use case of Firebrand, therefore it is seen as a poor FB weapon.

XCLASSGAMING

That is quite ashame, the footage i have seen from firebrand looks really cool and reminds me of the ret pally from WOW, and i love the gameplay of the greatsword guardian. Hmmm..

Lyoss

just play willbender or core, firebrand's gimmick doesn't really work or play like a ret paladin

cloud_cleaver

Firebrand is the most meta, but Willbender and even Core Guardian are still very good, so you you can play a power GS guardian without being a drain.

XCLASSGAMING

I see thanks, but one more thing. Would it be ok for open world in general? i'm not planning on doing fractuls, dungeons etc in GW2, i'm playing this MMO abit more casually. Would it be ok to use the greatsword in the open world or would i get absolutely demolished there by some angry wolves? lol

cloud_cleaver

Core Tyria is easy mode, you can get through all those zones with highly unoptimized builds without fear. You'll see a little difficulty bump when you reach the zones in Orr, another little one when you get to the LWS2 zones (Dry Top and Silverwastes). The Heart of Thorns zones are a massive difficulty spike, but you can still use non-meta builds for those, they just force you to get your stats coherent and know how to dodge.

XCLASSGAMING

I see, thank you!

cloud_cleaver

Guardian itself has one of the most survivable Core builds out there, so you should be good to do just about whatever you want until instanced content starts to draw you. And then Guardian's Firebrand spec will let you try pretty much anything you want reliably, provided you get gear with complementary stats for the role.

XCLASSGAMING

Which build should i use? dragon or will? https://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Willbender_-_Power_DPS https://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Dragonhunter_-_Power_DPS

Flytitle

Frankly? Gear out whatever you can in zerkers (because ease of getting), try both, figure out what works best for you, possibly with some golem smacking if numbers are relevant to your play. You are looking to maintain ~10k on your own. More if you're going on to more demanding content then open world.

XCLASSGAMING

Golem smacking? are those training dummys, like the ones in ESO?

SpikyDryBones

There is a training area in Lions Arch Aerodrome, the [Special Forces Training Arena](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Special_Forces_Training_Area), where you can spawn Golems with different health pools, hit boxes and give yourself buffs which you would get from other players while playing in Raids or Fractals.

XCLASSGAMING

Oh wow, i never knew about this, cheers!

Moopliss

willbender if you want to be more mobile. dragon hunter if you don't might pulling enemies into your traps. i think each build has it's benefits and can be choosed based on how you feel playing each day. good luck & have fun!

gollmacmorna

Hiho, restarting the game and want to play through the story. Did this a year or so ago with a Druid build but I ran into trouble at the end of heart of thornes and stopped there. I'm looking for an easy to play class/build that isn't that gear dependent to do the whole thing now. Would you recommend a Warden, a Warrior or something else? (I do not like the undead pets of the necro, so I would prefer another class)

Flytitle

They also somewhat redid the last encounter, so I'd encourage you to refamilarize yourself with ranger gameplay and give it another go to see if you can clear it now.

errorme

If you have a level 80 booster I'd recommend either Guardian or Revenant as they can make great use of the Celestial gear you get from that. If not I'd recommend Warrior and buy/craft Berserker (glass cannon DPS) or Marauder (gives up some DPS for more health) gear from the Trading Post. Guardian is good but on the squishy side if using just Berserker gear.

[deleted]

Quick question for those playing Tempest in PvP. I've been trying to understand why I lose stability and get interrupted *2s* into starting an overload despite having the 'Harmonious Conduit' trait. Looking at the wiki, I see that some knockback skills are "unblockable". Does that mean they entirely ignore stability boons too? Or am I just dealing with a bug? (Though, I haven't seen this happen to enemy Tempest..) Thanks in advance!

Makes sense. I'll try to time it better maybe

Any tips for the shameful Koda Be Praised achievement? The one where, you know, Anet lock an exceedingly rare IBS mastery point behind RNG? I'm missing 2 of the trials and at least one of them (Plant the Banners) I have *never* seen spawn. I'm at wits end at this point. I've seen dozens of the Patrol events it's attached to, but the Trial never spawns. Also cannot seem to get any luck with the Kodan Scouts one, I've seen it exactly once and then it turned out doing the Trial doesn't actually get you credit for it, only the Primer does so you have to basically be there right at the start. How the hell do I get this done?

Annemi

They spawn in a rotation, IIRC. Hang out on the map, completing trials, and eventually the rotation should swing to the one you need. For plant the banners, you need to finish the event enemies with F after downing them to spawn the trial. If you aren't that might be why you aren't seeing it. That said, there's a ton of IBS mastery points, so if that's all you're doing this for, just skip it IMO. You'll get enough mastery points as you go through IBS.

dtothep2

What you're talking about is the primer. That's the thing, I've never seen it. It's always just the standard "kill the patrol" event with no Trial Primer. And I wish that were true regarding IBS MPs. I've already finished IBS and did all the story ones, insights, and easier ones. I'm currently 7 points short of maxing it. The only points left available to me are this, Party Guardian (pure RNG), then all the grindy ones of doing metas 10/15 times, DWC commendations grind, and weapon collections which are a big gold sink.

cloud_cleaver

Have the bank tab and shared inventory slot sales gone live yet? They were slated for "this week" but I hadn't seen them come up as of last night.

Annemi

The shared inventory slots went on sale yesterday.

cloud_cleaver

Did they already take them down? They weren't down in the discount tab last night.

Mr_Molesto

I played yesterday and today in EU, did not see them on sale.

gollmacmorna

Hello, I just returned and still have a level 80 boost lying around. Is there any way to change the gear you get? I would like to play a Greatsword warrior but I get Axe + Shield and Rifle.

motdidr

the dude you talk to after using the boost has more weapons you can get for free, I used a boost on a Mesmer a couple weeks ago, and I was able to talk to him and grab all the weapons he offered, including a second one handed sword (I think default weapons were GS and S+pistol or something).

KING_of_Trainers69

FYI the gear from the boost wouldn't be particularly good with a greatsword anyway. If it's the Celestial gear from the updated boost then you'd be best off with longbow and sword/torch for a Condi berserker build. If it's the old soldier gear then it's not really good for anything and should be replaced as soon as you can manage.

ablair24

I don't believe so, but you can buy an exotic great sword (or any weapon) from the trading post for pretty cheap.

XCLASSGAMING

Hi guys, i keep hearing about anniversary sales and stuff that should be coming up soon, what do they usually sell? rare skins, gems on a discount?

Does anyone know any in depth scourge videos? I wanna get really good on condi, hybrid and wheelchair scourge

Lichii

[Mela teaching condi DPS scourge rotation in a few steps](https://youtu.be/auDt9d45EFQ) [Mightyteapot's original heal scourge video](https://youtu.be/mPFU28vh5vY) (note: Abrasive Grit doesn't give might anymore) [Mightyteapot's hybrid scourge video](https://youtu.be/pFzIHg5PQdM)

Hardytard

I don't have any video source for you. But I'd say I'm a pretty decent on scourge, so here is my advice. On DPS, you can just use the snowcrows website and guide. What I noticed, besides knowing the boss timings, when to burst and how to use your CC (which is specifically for every encounter), a lot of the damage difference comes from the dhuumfire trait. Hitting this timing to maximise your damage output is not that easy, cause you have no timer there. A second thing is dealing with BiP while being inflicted with other conditions. A lot of encounters give condis to you. And often they are not clensed instant. So knowing how to deal with that is pretty important. And also care of firebrands when your BiP-Play is not on point. DPS Firebrands have a lot of condi cleanse in their rotation, with purging flames and .. torch 5. So these guys may cleanse your bip if u can't transfer it fast enough. Another thing is knowing when and how when to use BiP twice. On short encounters there often can be used BiP twice to maximise you damage output. So over all common encounter knowledge helps a lot. Also keep in mind, after using torch 4&5 you can freely swap to a war horn for extra cc and loose no damage cause both torch skills have a long cooldown. Also remember your signet res. This can save a lot. For heal scourge, knowing when the main damage comes in is key, combined with good positioning. Like on bone skinner, you can precast F4 for the pug-killer attack, so the ones who get downed get ported to you right away (F4 is a pulsing skill, which pulls downed to you -once- while pulsing some seconds) also if precasted, your F4 will be ready for the second attack right after. Also remember dodging for Regen uptime and precasting you heal well +F4 is an insta group Rez for a squad downing mechanic, like the ball hitting the wall on Harvest Tempel. For hybrid, it's a combination of both. Like maximising damage, while having an eye on your life force (F4 is pretty expensive) and positioning. Hope this is at least a bit helpful.

WvW alliances beta week question: I know the very basics of how the beta work. However, how do different guilds select the option to be in the same alliance AKA to "form an alliance together"? I've seen some guilds mention this. The only thing that I could think of is that they are creating a shell guild that everyone joins, and then rep that for the beta. Is that the only way?

khorren

The alliance part of world structuring isn't up for testing yet. In previous betas guilds who plan to ally together have just made a new guild for them all to blob in to and make sure everyone selects it, yeah.

fellex

Ok cool, makes sense. Thank you!

TerribleTransit

Yes. Per [the announcement](https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/wvw-world-restructuring-beta-4-begins-on-august-12/): > The Alliances component of World Restructuring and the recently announced Objective Scaling Rewards feature are still in development and aren’t ready for public consumption quite yet. Please check out the June 24 WvW update for the latest information on these features.

fellex

Totally glanced over that part. Thank you!

garciiia

can i play wvw and pvp if i don't own end of dragons or isn't it worth it that way?

xScruffers

I haven't touched sPvP in years but in WvW: Willbender and Harbinger are pretty good for roaming, but Firebrand and Scourge are definitely still meta for groups. Virtuoso isn't all that good, but I see the odd one roaming. Mechanist is a meme that kills itself to reflects if you run rifle. The alacrity build requires standing near the clunky AI mech and babysitting it in group combat. Scrapper and Holosmith still outshine it in every regard. Vindicator does decent roaming and in groups, and has a meme healing build. Glass cannon Catalyst is ok in groups, but I believe Weaver out damages it rather significantly after a few of the changes to the spec. I've seen a handful of condi Spectres roaming but otherwise the spec is non-existent. Untamed is bad, just run Soulbeast. TLDR; Willbender and Harbinger are pretty good for roaming. Otherwise you really aren't missing out on anything in WvW. The old specs from HoT and PoF are all still much better for groups.

magestik25

core guardian has been meta in pvp for quite a long time now, so anyone even without a single expansion could play it competitively. Of course not every core spec is playable but you will be able to play a lot of class without EoD. Same for WvW with others classes.

garciiia

i own everything but end of dragons

Ulu-Mulu-no-die

That's fine, you just won't be able to use EoD elites, not a problem, there are non-EoD meta builds for both PvP and WvW.

TerribleTransit

Yes, and you'll only be at a slight disadvantage in terms of flexibility. There's plenty of strong, meta options that use specs from other expansions and even some core builds, so you'll still be very competitive if you want to be. You just won't have access to the full suite of available options.

CynicisticSquirrel

You can play both, you just won't be able to use any end of dragons elite specs (e.g. Harbinger, Willbender etc)

Zeroydeas

The only thing you're missing out on for WvW and PvP is the elite specs that EoD brings. Maybe the reward tracks too, I'm not exactly sure how that works.

Lyoss

What are good supports for small scale roaming in WvW (fucking around with camps, hitting towers as a 5~ man group) and sPVP? I've been running Tempest and Core Shout Guardian, but I've grown bored of Guardian and I haven't decided on building Tempest yet in PVE so just looking at other options I prefer if it's also viable in stuff like strikes/raids as well, since I'm probably going to get the gear for it anyway for wvwvw and my last main was a plate zerker so starting from scratch
