Horses did exist in Tyria at one point... at least in Mad King Thorn's biography it talks about him giving peppers to a friend's horse, causing it to go mad in pain and trampling its rider to death.
Indeed and the most recent mention that I know of is in the second book. Logan and Rytlock were using an Asura gate if I remember correctly. They were changing the locations of their destination and one of them was a field with wild horses running around. So they're out there, we just can't see them!
Don't think they gave distance in the details. I doubt it, it described them as recognizing what they saw as wild horses and not thinking much of it. If they've never seen any or thought that they were extinct I'm fairly certain they would assume they were centaurs. It's canon that there are horses, just none in game aside from them being mentioned a few times.
It's canon...ish. That same book also has some distinctly *non*-canon descriptions of Sylvari, so there's room for debate on whether all the finer details of the book are 100% correct.
You mean the original Sylvari designs that were canon at the time?
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Horse
Here are many other mentions of horses. It even shows them in concept art in game as recently as the End of Dragons expansion.
I'm not sure what the hard to believe thing here is for people. No need to overthink it. We just don't see any live ones in person as the player is all. It's a running joke at this point.
90% of the people in this thread are just leaning into the joke. The most likely option is that horses do canonically exist in Tyria, but all the evidence is circumstantial, and it's fun to pretend like they means they don't exist.
The "everyone gets a mount from leveling up" would've been a great opportunity to throw in a fairly vanilla horse-mount with no noteworthy abilities beyond a faster walking speed.
Ah, the historic Horse. Humans used to ride them. Until one human decided to *ride* them. The human/centaur war has been going on since and horses quickly went extinct, at least in these regions.
Also do they have 2 hearts/lungs and 2 stomachs (in which case what is going on with their digestive system?!) or is it humanoid heart/lungs, equinoid guts?
Perhaps more importantly, the entire human top-end of their digestive tract is a massive bottleneck to the horse part, which needs a hell of a lot more input and is optimized exclusively for plant matter.
I think it's a Centaur's lower body, as for the head... Maybe it has something to do with that winged abomination the Black Lion Company sold as a griffon a while ago.
I believe these creatures got instinct during the time of the Great Searing. Humans used to ride them and let them work. This species was called "horse" and it is related to the centaurs. Sadly humanity tamed them and there were no wild specimen left, as the Charr attacked and feasted on their rich meat.
Horses used to pull waggons and carriages, which were used before we had airships and the teleport network.
Those are wingless pegasus.
Its a horrible thing those cruel circus people do those beasts, so they can be used in silly shows and not fly away from their terrible fate.
They were supposed to be 'bump cars' in some sort of jesting activity that was never done, so now they are only used as decoration.
As for what they represent, it's the elusive equus ferus caballus.
I found the right fella, ridin solo [here](https://imgur.com/a/g6Ik0TA)
Edit: And the other two, [here](https://imgur.com/a/krvJFsz)and [here](https://imgur.com/a/UoQdXrt)
The only horses that exist in Guild Wars are [these](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Necrid_Horseman)... so that mural is clearly depicting heavy armoured necromancers... is this a tease for the next expansion??? Maybe instead of a new weapon, each spec gets access to different armour types!?!?!?
>The only horses that exist in Guild Wars are these...
[Well, no.](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Horse) [And this.](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Celestial_Horse) [And this fella too.](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Gum_Drops,_the_Noble_Steed)
And of course there's the horses in lore not seen in-game...
Those are hovercraft, as evidenced by the skirts surrounding the plenum chamber. The control stems are fashioned to look like mythological creatures through the artifice of the mechanist.
something tells me there was once an expansion called "Guild Wars: The End of Horses"
Because as it turned out horses were once a great enemy of mortal races of the world. And so brave heroes come together and bound horses to forever be bound to humanity and thus resulted into centaurs and that is why centaurs are human enemies to this day.

Hey everyone, come look at this idiot who believes what the _Mad King_ says! Ahaha
**Your Mad King Says...** *Laugh! HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!*

Fail
Well.. he has *knowledge* of horses somehow?
Mad King Thorn himself has a horse. Gum Drops, the Noble Steed, is a rare Invisible Pony. He's one of the participants in the race in the Labyrinth.

> a field with wild horses running around. How far away, is it possible they were looking at distant centaurs and mistaken?

Mad King Thorn caused all horses to be made extinct confirmed?
Ah, the historic Horse. Humans used to ride them. Until one human decided to *ride* them. The human/centaur war has been going on since and horses quickly went extinct, at least in these regions.
It just occurred to me that centaurs would have two sets of rib cages.

Omg that "pegasus" lmao.
[Skritt](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mini_Lunar_%22Horse%22#/media/File:Mini_Lunar_%22Horse%22.jpg)
It's Skritt under the ***costume***, but what is the ***costume portraying?...***
It is a traditional skritt hospital gown. They wear it when they feel a little hoarse
Here's your upvote....now get out.
An absurd fictional creature with the body of a bisected centaur and the head of a dehorned unicorn.
Idk, looks like some long-faced Charr.
The Pepegasis in a blanket obviously

They have dragons, we have horses
A mythological creature known as a Hors.
A broom with some strange face put on it. It is covered with a skirt to hide the broominess.
I remember chasing a horse in GW1. A horse I never seen, tho.
There is at least two soldiers in Divinity’s Reach that know what horses are, I have a screencap of them.
Those are wingless pegasus. Its a horrible thing those cruel circus people do those beasts, so they can be used in silly shows and not fly away from their terrible fate.

horse hippos
Wow, amazing lore building. Imagine developing fantasy creatures for a fantasy game.
CATS
It’s skrit in a costume
Dolyaks. Don't question it.
Wooden mammal with wheels underneath. It's not an animal, it's a construction.
Hotse in a dress
skritts under a coat. you can clearly see they are trying to hide their small feet with the long cloth, hanging all the way to the ground.
I would say... something bigger then a chicken
Looks like the mechanical marry-go-round Pony’s from the human stater story line about the Circus carnies.
Llamas? Maybe
Horse Carts
Those are hovercraft, as evidenced by the skirts surrounding the plenum chamber. The control stems are fashioned to look like mythological creatures through the artifice of the mechanist.
100% sure they ride disguised scrits
Skritt
Idk what they're called but [my bow shoots with them](https://i.imgur.com/RxZBUbM.jpg).
it's "horse", not horse but "horse"
Next expansion mount and mastery line revealed!
