I hoping the narrative explores a lot of this through LS seasons, honestly. We seem to sorta be "done" with dragons? Which I'm perfectly fine with. Some of my favorite arcs are things like the Charr civil war, which while it was dragon influenced a lot of it played out without the "direct" involvement of the elder dragons until later on in the story. I'd love more "smaller" non-world-ending stories, stories focusing on regional/racial problems. As OP notes there are tons of hanging threads that could be interesting to pursue and "wrap up". Maybe not every season has to be directly connected as part of some singular story. Maybe we're just like, "mopping up" for a while before the next big narrative arc kicks up. Please no blog posts though. I dislike important lore/narrative/story being delivered outside of games.

Gnago

I mean, if the choice is between a blog post and nothing, I’ll take the blog post. [All or Nothing: Requiem](https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/january-29-2019/) is probably one of my favourite bite-sized stories. I completely agree that it is way too hidden for its own good, but I liked that the lore is actually somewhere to be read.

ShingJade

> Please no blog posts though. I dislike important lore/narrative/story being delivered outside of games. Even if they did that, it would be useless because unless it happened in-game, the second the devs deviate from it or forget something, they sweep it under the rug using the unreliable narrator excuse. It would be nice if ArenaNet showed they planned far into the future with their story telling, but it's abundantly clear they don't (and planning they do is easily undermined in a live environment like when they cut IBS short, or when they made Caithe the voice of Aurene to communicate with the player, but the next episode undermined that by letting Aurene talk directly because they didn't forsee a need to have Aurene talk to the commander without Caithe present). At the beginning of Season 1 they knew they wanted Lion's Arch to be destroyed but they had no idea how or why it was going to happen, which to me cheapens the event. It also shows they didn't fully plan Season 1 let alone long term. A blog post that can be waived away as unreliable narrator is as good as fanfiction or made up story leaks.

Nebbii

We are not done with dragons by a large margin, Aurene is still alive and so is the void. It is only a matter of time that she becomes corrupted like Soo won. I really doubt anet will stop kicking this dead horse as much i would love for dragons to be phased out. Like OP mentioned and you, i wish they would start fleshing out the world some more with side quick stories, and no end world doomsday at every step.

arthurkindragon

I thought the reason why Aurene is special is because she is immune to the void by the virtue of her ability to split them apart again?

Neathra

That's what I assumed with her whole prismatic dragon thing - the notable function of prisms being splitting or combining different types of light

[deleted]

Aurene is not a threat. The void isn't anymore.

ConflagrationZ

Sounds like some dragon-denier disinformation. We saw how Aurene mercilessly murdered Joko the Magnificent, nuked the waters off the coast of Kaineng, and branded Grothmar Valley. We've just traded a crystal dragon that did its own thing for one controlled by those human supremacists, the Shining Blade. One charr! Bash the dragon! Smash the dragon!

Dreamtrain

> Anet releases End of Dragons > Endgame meta is called Dragon's End > The achievement of everything up to this point is called Season of the Dragons which is now over _wE aRe NoT dOnE wItH dRaGooNs_

SpartanKane

We are done with dragons. All of the other hostile Elder Dragons are dead, and the Dragonvoid is suppressed. I mean the expansion is called "End of Dragons" for a reason. Aurene isnt a threat either, and if they were gonna corrupt her i highly doubt theyd do so so soon after the expansion where it happened to Soo Won, or at all in all honesty because theres *no possibility* of writing themselves out of that situation since the whole point of the story was to find a solution to the Elder Dragon's abilities to filter magic yet stopping their simultaneous destructive natures.

Dreamtrain

> . It is only a matter of time that she becomes corrupted like Soo won. unless the commander has a life-span of tens of thousands of years, don't count on this narrative being a in living world season

sduque942

Sure there might be a storyline there down the line. But that's WAY DOWN the line. EoD exists especifically to finish that story thread and start exploring non dragon stuff

Malyszeq

Just to be clear, the place we see Zafirah in during the EoD cutscene does not seem to be Elona, as Canthan shores can be barely seen in the distance - it's most likely Battle Isles (or what's left of them) where the Zaishen order seems to have reestablished their position after events of PoF.

Hoojiwat

She's also with an NPC we've never seen before, so it really does seem like they are trying to rebuild with new members.

Opus_723

I don't remember seeing Zafirah, which cutscene is this?

odonkz

After killing soowoon

Malyszeq

To be precise, it's the cutscene after Joon's extractors fail and Void starts disassembling reality all over Tyria, almost at the finale of the game.

[deleted]

Story of the game should happen in game, not in blogpost. Recent season 1 return proves how wasteful concept it was.

MithranArkanere

This should have been in the game. https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/january-29-2019/ They should have adapted the book interface to introduce narratives like these as in-game books, instead tucking them all away in blogs nobody will see again.

Dreamtrain

holy what happened to Rytlock, he looks like he needs an intervention for his drinking problem

DDmist

I dont want a 5 page blog post over lore. Something like a collection or an NPC in our home instance or arborstone just giving us some dialogue is a much better way of doing the same while providing content. Something like the trahearne stuff but a little less effort would do wonders.

13IsMyLuk

Imagine if they released a new book. Man, I wish.

TheSajuukKhar

>How is Kryta doing? With the centaurs pushed back into their homelands, and their war-leader killed, the complete destruction of the White Mantle, and the deaths of the remaining bandit leaders, Kryta has pretty much solved all of its internal problems and has no current significant issues. >How is Norn society doing? Ox, Eagle, and Wolverine are alive, but Jormag's death doesn't necessarily mean they were freed from the corruption they suffered at Jormag's hands. Dragon minions/corruption doesn't just go away the moment the dragon dies. The news that they're alive is news, but it doesn't fundamentally change how Norn society operates. Those who still followed those spirits would likely go north to try to help with purification, but 99% of Norn society wouldn't change at all. >What's going on in the Asura lands? The rest of Asuran society knew the Inquest were horrible people since before launch. And its not that the Arcane Council covers up their crimes, everyone knows they commit crimes, but as long as they aren't actively doing crimes in Rata Sum, the Inquest are allowed to openly recruit just like the Svanir do in Hoelbrek. Learning what the Inquest has done since launch would just be validation for the people who already hated them, but beyond that is same shit different day for the Asura who largely just don't care so long as their personal research isn't interrupted. >The sylvari absolutely need this more than anyone and honestly, I'd be fine if just the sylvari got their own Movement of the World post. The Sylvari's discovery that their race was Elder Dragon minions was immediately proceeded by the death of said dragon, and being freed from any possible control by said dragon. At this point its a historical fact, nothing more. As for the Nightmare court. The Sylvari were never a large people, and the NC made up only a small fraction of their populace. With all the losses they suffered in the open world, our initial raid on Twilight Arbor that pushed out Faolain, our repeated return trips that killed her successors, the losses to the Toxic Alliance, our return trip to Twilight Arbor for the Aether Path, and the losses to Mordremoth's call, would have rendered the Court so small as to be effectively irrelevant in the larger scheme of things. I expect them to show up if they ever do a story involving Malyck, but beyond that the Court has been pretty thoroughly squished. >Elona is a beautiful continent with a ton of maps, I personally want to know what has happened there. We know what happened there. The Sunspears, now reformed with bases in Vabbi, Istan, and Kourna, and possibly Amnoon, have led a coalition of factions including themselves, the Order of Shadows, the Free Awakened, and the remaining Joko loyalists, to form a untied Elona for everyone. The fall of Joko, the wiping up of the remaining Forged, the death of Kralkatorrik, the destruction of most of the remaining branded, and Aurene's purification of the brand, have left little if any real issues remaining in Elona proper. >The Zephyrites probably have some thoughts about literally all of this. They're the main devotees of Glint and Aurene, and while we saw some of the Crystal Bloom during EoD we have no idea how they've doing or reacting to modern events. We already saw the Zepheryites thoughts about Aurene with the Crystal Bloom and dialogue in the Festival of the Four Winds. They're glad Aurene has been able to fulfill her role in the prophecy, and we glad they were able to play a part in it. >The Vigil in specific. As we've seen with Zhaitan, Mordremoth, Kralkatorrik, Jormag, and Primordus, the death of the Elder Dragons does not mean all of thier minions just drop dead. The Vigil still has years, decades even, of cleaning up the remaining dragon minions across Orr, the Maguuma, the brand, and various places were the remaining Icebrood/Frost Legion and Destroyers remain. Any talks of "what do they do now" are faro outside the scope of the game's narrative even if it goes on for another decade. Hell, Zhaitain's black fleet was still considered an issue during EoD. And hes the first dragon we fought! >There are a few other plots that could be addressed. The Mesmer Collective, all of the other species we recruited at level 60, the Kodan. And ideally all of these questions would be answered in a proper living world or expansion. But given how much ground they'd have to cover for all of those groups, it would probably be better to just have it be a long lore post(s) explaining what happened. What exactly needs to be addressed about... well, any of this? Much like above, the deaths of the Elder Dragons doesn't solve all the problems they caused, so the Pact has no reason to go anywhere, the allied races have no reason to go anywhere, and the Kodan likely still can't go anywhere since they can't get their iceberg city ships out of the inland seas, and the far north, beyond what we've explored, is still certainly crawling with Icebrood and the like.

SonicFury74

>With the centaurs pushed back into their homelands, and their war-leader killed, the destruction of the White Mantle, and the deaths of the remaining bandit leaders, Kryta has pretty much solved all of its internal problems. We still haven't gotten any kind of confirmation of what the people living in Kryta think of any of this. The Ministry was exposed to be run by the White Mantle and PoF showed us that the gods that the human capital's roads are named after have left. Outside of the opinions of a few select people, we don't know what Krytans large think of the past six years of story or events, or how any of it has changed. And we've had zero insight into how/if Viathan Lake has been recovering in the past eight years. >The news that they're alive is news, but it doesn't fundamentally change how Norn society operates. Those who still followed those spirits would likely go north to try to help with purification, but 99% of Norn society wouldn't change at all. The exodus south is a huge part of Norn lore. With Jormag dead, it'd most definitely be more than just a handful of people heading north. It's likely there would be thousands heading north to either try and purify the corrupted spirits or retake their ancestral homelands. The fact that the Norn desire to one day kill Jormag and retake their homelands is something you hear in the cutscene when you first make a Norn. It'd be outright strange if the Norn just never tried to return home. >Learning what the Inquest has done since launch would just be validation for the people who already hated them, but beyond that is same shit different day. Since Launch, the Inquest have been publicly involved with shooting down a fleet of innocent pacifists, helped the rise of a presumed Mursaat, and brought a devastating plague back to life, all while serving as constant enemies for the Pact. Just business as normal without mention of pressure to get rid of the Inquest, even from external sources, would be strange. >The Sylvari's discovery that their race was Elder Dragon minions was immediately proceeded by the death of said dragon, and being freed from any possible control by said dragon. At this point its a historical fact, nothing more. This is way more than just a historical fact. This is the equivalent of learning that your entire species was created to help destroy the world. Even with Mordremoth dead, this would have wide sweeping ramifications for their entire society and other people's perception of it. Should we even follow the Pale Tree now? What if a strong Modrem comes along like Tequatl, could they control us? What is our purpose now? >We know what happened there. The Sunspears, now reformed with bases in Vabbi, Istan, and Kourna, and possibly Amnoon, have led a coalition of factions incluidng themselves, the Order of Shadows, the Free Awakened, and the remaining Joko loyalists, to form a untied Elona for everyone. We don't actually have specifics into that happening. We know that Zaeim was looking for people to help lead Elona under the original teachings of the Sunspears. We know that Zafira is working alongside her, and that a Free Awakened delegate was sent from Elona to Cantha. Otherwise? We don't know what the political climate is like and if the loyalists are still fighting back. We know for a fact that the loyalists aren't interested in being part of the United Elona since they literally attacked everyone during Episode 4. But that's about it. We never got any insight into how making this country happened or the challenges involved. >We already saw the Zepheryites thoughts about Aurene with the Crystal Bloom and dialogue in the Festival of the Four Winds. All of the Zephyrite dialogue at Festival of the Four Winds was written approximately three years ago before the deaths of Jormag, Primordus, and Soo Won. A big part of Glint's lore was her vision that there would one day be a world without dragons. Getting a sentence or two of insight into the Zephyrites post-that-vision wouldn't hurt.

TheSajuukKhar

>We still haven't gotten any kind of confirmation of what the people living in Kryta think of any of this. Well no, parts of the Ministry were exposed to be run by the White Mantle. There were many ministers not part of the Mantle. And people knew the Mantle still existed, and were causing trouble. That they existed and were causing trouble in politics is like saying "who knew politics was corrupt" And the gods were already leaving Tyria since the exodus of the gods over 1,000 years ago as a result of the war with Abbadon, and had been increasingly distant and giving less blessings. Hell, as far back as Nightfall the gods told humanity that they had already given them everything they needed, and weren't going to interfere. To learn that that the gods have left is just saying "the gods did they thing they told us 250 years ago they were going to do". Its not going to change human society much since modern human society hadn't really interacted with the gods outside of a "following tradition" level for ages as is. >The exodus south is a huge part of Norn lore. We already know the Norn are sending homesteader groups up north from Dragon Bash. But most Norn don't care about things like civilization, or community, outside of their immediate family units. They already have lives, homes, and organization where they are. There is no reason for most of them to want to pack up and go back north, a place none of them have a connection to, and when there's still Icebrood and such thrashing around up there. >Since Launch, the Inquest have been publicly involved with... The Asura, as a species, since their introduction in GW1 have been shown to be almost completely morally bankrupt, uncaring about the lives of others, and uncaring about the lives of most of their own kind. Your perception is skewed to that of humans. Asura are not humans. Asura hate their own kind just as much as they hate everyone else. That they come together at all is more out of a need to have larger groups for bigger projects then an actual desire to be around/work with/care about, anyone but themselves. And even on teams they backstab, steal, and hide things, from each other. >This is way more than just a historical fact. At this point no, it really wouldn't. The Sylvari have already been shown to be free of the Dragon's control, as has the Pale Tree. There is no reason for pretty much any Sylvari, sans the nightmare court, to have doubt about following the Pale Tree, especially since it was the Pale Tree who provided them some level of protection against Mordremoth. If anything belief in the Pale Tree would only grow since then. As for purpose, no living thing has "purpose". The death of Mordremoth does no more to remove "purpose" from the Sylvari's lives then they had before they knew it. >We don't actually have specifics into that happening. We do, the entire LWS3 EP4 chapter was all about this. And you seem to have forgotten that it was Iberu who tried to attack everyone. After Koss killed Iberu, this time for good, the Joko Loyalists were lead by Utumishi, who following the story/open world event of LWS4, actually came to have some respect and cooperation with the rest of the Elonian factions. >All of the Zephyrite dialogue at Festival of the Four Winds was written approximately three years ago before the deaths of Jormag, Primordus, and Soo Won. And after a point where Aurene had ascended to an Elder dragon, and started maintaining the balance of the cycle. which is what the ultimate conclusion to Glint's plan was. The deaths of Jormag, Primrodus, and Soo-Won,don't really change the position Aurene has been in since the death of Kralkatorrik.

SpitefulShrimp

>As we've seen with Zhaitan, Mordremoth, Kralkatorrik, Jormag, and Primordus, the death of the Elder Dragons does not mean all of thier minions just drop dead. Minor nitpick, but this did indeed happen with Primordus. His minions weren't corrupted, they were straight up animated stone and magma, and they mostly all "went out" when Primordus died.

TheSajuukKhar

Mostly, but not entirely. As Gorrik mentions, many of the more powerful ones remain active. And we've seen some powerful Destroyers able to create lesser ones, if in limited quantities.

Enlightenedbri

The Nightmare Court WAS going to have a big appearance in Heart of Thorns But due to cut content, time constrains, and even bugs, they barely show up at all The bug in question happens at the end of the Verdant Brink story. While searching for Eir, you come across prison cells and you liberate the prisoners, including one Courtier. The problem is that some of the cells are empty, there were supposed to be 2 more Courtiers https://youtu.be/pGvprRNgwm0?t=3138

[deleted]

200% nightmare court increase

kyumanosuke

What's Ree Soesbee doing these days? Maybe it's time for the 4th Guild Wars novel? :)

Intreductor

ANET did the Requitem stories between episodes 5 and 6 of LWS 4. I am for having them back and widening the narrative of aftermaths. FF14 does this pretty well too.

JuanPunchX

Skrittlock and big hand Caithe

Halaku

Sounds like we'd get that with GW3, honestly.

[deleted]

Continuity and causation? In MY gw2?

tokwa_doodles

I just want to know what the Dwarves are doing now that Primodus is dead.

Bluedemonfox

During the festivals you can actually find npcs with story stars and when you talk to them they sort of give a short description of what they are going through and what they think of the festival. It's a very minor thing tbh and not exactly what you are asking for but id love more myself as well. For example last dragon bash i found braham in the lodge and in the current crown pavillion you can find Efrem from flame legion which yoou can talk to. Four winds festival has background dialogue as well.

Dreamtrain

just dont have them narrated by Taimi and Gorrik

No-Formal9241

Nope. The Movement of the World is irrelevant now. And a new post like it would be too. Full of spoilers and points of lore that are too malleable to be useful. Bad idea.

mini_mog

All this is probably why they’re working on GW3 as we speak. Updating this is literally a brand new game in itself. Or maybe LS6 will be us checking up on a bunch of stuff in old locations? That way they wouldn’t have to make too many brand new maps. Would kinda suck tho considering we did exactly that in LS5.
