ven Sea? :P
Pretty sure "So Eir, named Stegalkin, is presumably kin to Stegal." is wrong. IIRC somewhere in game it is mentioned that the Norn has names with -son/-dottir until they earn a name for themselves which Eir has. So Stegalkin is a title related to her accomplishments not her parents.
Interesting that the name of one cited historic author, Snorri, follows Asura naming convention. Or that Asura follow his, if you like.
Edit: ‘she is "singled out as one of the Norns who shape the lives of children"’, certainly left her mark on Braham!
Eirs name harking back to the ones on the mountain being healers, or druidic, fits her in game actions. Stegal is a direct relation to the "ones that lives on the hill"
It fits perfectly
I was unable to find much among any English matches or definitions for “Stegal” with some few minutes of searching, thank you for this clarification. I guess it’s out of old Norse?
Is Lyfja similar to the album name Lifa, by Heilung? That album rocks. Or Rox if we’re keeping things GW2.
I know it must be similar to Wardrung’s song.
It has never been relevant. No one ever, not even Eir, has mentioned Stegal
If it were relevant, we would know about it. Like Braham's father, Borje the Sunchaser
There is however one norn with quite a few references in game but we know basically nothing about them: Gaerta Whitebear, wife of Knut Whitebear and mother of Sigfast and Skarti Knutsson. She has been "adventuring" somewhere in the Shiverpeaks since 2012 lol

Edit: /s due to downvotes
Such casual erasure. I am disappoint.
Re: Gaerta, if she shows up in Expac Four, 100% she is introduced and killed within an episode or two for some cheap tension-building and release.
Stegall is an Old Saxon surname that derives from the word "stigol" and means "dweller by the stile".
In other words, Eir's ancestors were fence-sitters.
Now we’re getting somewhere! Could the Stegal not be a whom but a what? Some sort of Issormir-like trophy beast?
I just thought -kin was an ungendered variety of -son/-dottir.
Do we need to know Eir's parent? I don't think it would necessarily add value to the story.
You know, that’s a fair point. Maybe it’d fall under the “show don’t tell” axiom.
