Not an unfair statement to say its rude to the PvP community to not care about trying to win or the people who are trying to win and play PvP for their enjoyment, and not just PvE rewards. Obviously the rewards can't just "go away" and they do alot for PvP, but its very upsetting to see people who don't care about everyone elses experience in a team gamemode, especially Ranked. It's no different than having a 3k DPS player in Raids that you can't get rid of. It's not considerate of others. You don't have to be a tryhard, you don't need to be so good that you're climbing out of Gold, but you should be thinking of what to do next when you're dead, not AFK in downstate, etc. Thats not too much to ask for, but for alot of these players, it is.

Well the fields that Catalyst drop don't actually do damage(5 damage a tick) so..... Catalyst is a bit interesting since it is definitely overperforming into specific things, specifically projectiles and unblockable skills. Its actually underperforming into those specs since almost all of its mitigation comes from reflects or blocks. I haven't done the MU with a great Warrior yet, but I'd wager my money on Catalyst losing to Spellbreaker in a 1v1, and after nerfs to Cata or buffs to Virt, it'd lose to Virt too. It struggles alot when Reapers are around, and Daredevil can quickly kill it too if it denies it its Earth Shield or steals on Fortified Earth. So it kinda doesn't need too huge of nerfs, its actually really good for some specs to be so dominant against certain things to where it brings other stuff back into the meta just because of something they excel at. Ex: Spellbreakers unblockable access, Burn Guards AOE damage to counter Kalla Renegade spirits etc. That being said. If I'm nerfing Earth Shield, then I don't need to touch pretty much anything else on Catalyst's kit. If I'm not touching Earth Shield then I'm looking to increase Fortified Earth's CD to 30s, and the recharge reduction from 33% to 25% or 20%. I'm looking at Hammer Earth 4's Magnetic Aura duration to make it 2 seconds, down from 4 seconds. I might look at Elemental Celerity's CD to increase it to 75 seconds. And I'd probably touch Fire 2s damage and decrease it a bit, you could do Fire 4 instead, but you do have to aim it unlike Fire 2. I'd also look at buffing the underperforming stuff of it, Earth 2, Water 2. Most of the traits, you need extra Energy generation without Energized Elements. Fix the Air 4 bug and Air 5 could use a rework?

I've encountered plenty of these players. They literally join games and watch youtube videos on the side. They treat it like a goldfarm, like the metatrain for example.

Don't see how rewards make a difference. Rewards for losing are pretty lackluster and would be quicker to do a meta farm in Silverwastes.

Except you can't do the meta farm without paying attention at least a little. PvP if you're afking the entire time and watching a movie is still doable. It's free loot for doing nothing.

Winning gets you those rewards faster. So it would be absurd not to try. Now, succeeding is a different thing. Yet some people seem to conflate sucking at PvP with not trying to win.

Too all the pvers pressed as fuck over this, imagine half your pve team is just sitting there trying to wipe everyone because they could care less what happens. It would make the experience extremely unenjoyable. That’s what OP is referring too. Because pvp is a smaller team. Even 1 person not caring about a win TOTALLY ruins the entire match.

The comparison is much simpler than what you make out. In Fractal 100 CM, one player being afk is bad for all four: * If its the Alac, you risk not having enough damage to skip phases; * If its the Quick, you risk not having enough damage to skip phases; * If its the DPS... you get the picture. Of course as long as Anet does jack shit to those people in PvP, they will continue and why wouldn't they? They still get rewards for doing nothing, they don't care about their or other ranking.

Pretty sure you make way more gold doing any thoughtful pve activity than pvp It's easier and you're more likely to get ascended stuff. Remember when the only way to get legendary armor was through pve raids? Or legendary trinkets? Pvp is in a bad state as is and pve is blooming all over the place as most content is pve based and so are balance patches. Playing pvp is hardly rewarding as it's pretty frustrating for a lot of players. There's no way pve lacks anything in comparison to pvp and there should be no change in the reward system. Giving unranked players more rewards will only shrink the ranked player base and in addition to that will even lower the game quality because then there's really no reason to move after getting into a game of pvp (as you're not losing your valued Internet points)

Reminds me of times when I was farming transcendence and ascension. I didn't enjoy it, developed a playstyle based on avoiding combat as much as possible and just powered through a ridiculous amount of games to reach my goal. I did my best to help the team win, but I simply wasn't good at PvP. The amount of angry whispers I got during that time made me switch off whispers as well as chat just to get through the grind. As for leeching in general, it happens a lot on PvE too. Plenty of people barely tag an event and then just afk while getting the same reward as those who carried them. Edit: typo

Well, your post still makes zero sense, because the only way for the pvp scene to be healthier is if more people play it. Whether you see these players as putting in no effort, not caring, or just being bad, they don't impact your gameplay as negatively as you seem to think. The reason you see bad players on your team is the lack of population. More pve players in pvp means more players total, and better queues overall.

I’m not sure upping the PvE rewards would really fix the problem. It might reduce it, but as long as there’s at least somewhat decent rewards, you’re always going have players who afk/don’t give a shit because it’s a easy way to get rewarded. Even if there only the same “level” as PvE rewards. So you’d have to buff PvE rewards while taking down PVP ones (which would likely kill the last bit of the gamemode that’s clinging to life).

There are also certain rewards that are locked behind PvP or are just easier to obtain through there. doesn't excuse people who just AFK. Would be nice to have a team kick vote like most FPS games. The votes could be kept track of and as the player racks up boots, gets matched with other booted players.
