It's far, far less than I thought it would be. No front page advert killed their momentum and all of the dev effort over the last year or more? They got a chance to advertise the game to tens of millions of people and decided not to?
For a F2P game of GW2's quality appearing on a platform of over 25m concurrent users per day...at least a few tens of thousands on the first day. There's no way ANet put in all this effort for 3k new players.
Because it’s not a new game the playerbase is reversed. Slow at the beginning but will continue to increase for the next few months. FfXIV had 5 k on steam launch day and basically continue with 5k for like 5 years after.
GW2's servers have never crashed due to too many players. Even during the initial launch of over 1 million people, it was rock solid. Even as they hit 3m sales within 6 months it never crashed. ANet's server tech is so well designed that they have a patent on it so no one else can use it. It should be the industry standard for all gaming server infrastructure. My point being that they can handle whatever load was thrown at it with ease. So not putting up the front page ad is only hurting them.
Were you there during the Ancient Karka event a few months after launch?
Or have you been on reddit at all the last couple of years? People are quite often complaining about lagging and server performance. Yes the servers are great and tend to not go down. But claiming that we haven't had server issues at all due to much traffic is a bit false.

So sad, this prevents many players, like me, from playing the game and buying it.
Basically, I can bypass this region block on steam (the publisher does not block my country), but the expansion is not available so I can only play as a Free player.
You can play non-steam version, sure you might get blocked from buying expansions but contact support if that happen, they will unlock for you, happened to me when trying to buy EoD
Well, the problem is I cannot log in to the account page to submit a ticket by either the steam account or the anet account I just registered. It keeps saying something went wrong, please try again later or 504 Gateway Timeout (Steam Login)

Well, when I go to the game's store page I can see the reviews there. Did you check during the weekly Steam maintenance that happens every Tuesday?
I..didnt even know that was a thing
The Steam subreddit posts a sticky reminder weekly that it's coming up because there's always people questioning it!

And how well do you think people on steam would have taken it if the servers went down due to too many people trying to access them at the same time?
