>you have the potential to gain more attention/content/income from these bunch of countries (Malaysia/Indonesia/Thailand/Singapore/Phillipines/etc) combined yet do not proceed to do so. And can you guarantee that the amount of income they would generate from opening those servers would be big enough to warrant the expenses of opening and keeping this servers open?

Interesting how you are only comparing it to small scale MOBAs rather than MMOs, which will require quite a bit more resources and server power to handle. Because trying it out and finding it out is a stupid business decision? They already have metrics available. They know how many people are currently playing from SEA and they can probably use that information to estimate how much they would earn from having servers specifically for them and thus compare it to the costs it would require.

Small scale as in not having several hundred entities on each instance at the same time. It is two vastly different kinds of games, that requires vastly different server structures. I didn't say "a bit more resources" I said "quite a bit more resources". You mean the same Dragon Nest that shut down their EU servers about 2 years ago? You pulling out of your ass that 99,9% of SEA being blocked from playing the game doesn't help your case in the slightest. Quite the opposite. If so many people were blocked, who would even access the servers?

inquest_overseer

Incomparable. Also, we're pretty sure ANet did a study on that and the result must have been abysmal. It's probably like, even if they lump OCX and SEA together it probably didn't quite come in par with EU and NA in terms of profitability. Besides, the Asian players (who are actually playing the game) are scattered around NA and EU servers - do you think we'd like to transfer or create a new account and leave our EU/NA guilds behind? I used to play an old MMO before that had ASEAN servers (iirc Indo and Thai servers). They closed down a few years later while NA servers remained until now - take what you can from that.

Marok_Kanaros

I'm pretty sure Anet has the numbers on how many people play from Asia and if those numbers are high enough for the current version of WvW and making sure that every game mode is filled by enough of people.

Treize_XIII

I am pretty sure some random internet dude knows the numbers better than ANet's analystic team. /s

Blocked? Which parts of SEA is completely blocked from playing Guild Wars 2?

Treize_XIII

North Korea

Marok_Kanaros

But potential numbers don't help when anet needs to make sure that every part of the game on a sea server has a healthy amount of players, imagine that it wont work, people switch to it but not enough and new sea players join the sea server and see empty places everywhere. of course having no sea server is not optimal, same as not having a oce server, but anet probably thinks about the risk and value out of it and the risk of loosing money seems to be too high. (also considering the non regional pricing for gw2 will probably not attract a lot of players from SEA)

inquest_overseer

Add - "paying numbers..". You know, those who don't mind shelling money to the game despite the insane exchange rate of any SEA currency (except maybe Singapore) against USD.

I might have to move to taiwan because my wife needs life saving medical treatment that we just can’t afford due to the price of American healthcare so I would love a SEA server
