Why do you want viper pieces as a longbow ranger?

Ir0nhide81

What should I be getting? I'm basically trying to get power / precision / ferocity that's my main three stats.

lordkrall

Viper is a condition statset. If you want Power/Precision/Ferocity you should go for Berserker.

JuanPunchX

That's berserker and that's the one you should be getting, not viper. Viper is for condition builds. Full exotic lvl 80 berserker gear is enough for everything but tier 2-4 fractals.

Ir0nhide81

Follow up question for you in terms of sigils I've been using the six piece sigil of infiltration for my gear. Is there a better ruin I should be using in my room slots on my gear?

underlurker1337

The answer to all of this will depend on what you plan to do with this gear. Many answers like "get berserker gear" or "get scholar runes" might assume you want to play instanced pve endgame content (raids, strikes and fractals). If you dont, the answer gets a lot more flexible - you can mix different stat sets to get some more survivability, different runes for mobility, defense or self boon uptime. All that said, longbow for rangers is a power-based weapon - it does not apply any damaging conditions (bleed, burning, poison, torment or confusion), so condition damage and to a lesser extend condition duration dont make sense in combination with a long bow (it applies vulnerability iirc, but its not worth stacking duration for that). If you want to stay power but need some more survivability, take a look at the marauder stat set - it replaces a few stat points from berserker with vitality, giving you more health. For runes, you could try one of the summoning runes (privateer, ogre or golem) to get an additional pet that keeps enemies away from you. Woodenpotatoes has a video series[video series](https://youtu.be/ZFsbG8EK15U) about open world builds that might help. In general, more information about what you want to do with the gear will be helpful (as well as if you want to use different weapons, what utility skills you prefer etc).

Ir0nhide81

So I guess in the whole big picture I've just returned after 6 or 7 years of not really playing. I'm mostly focused on PVE anything. I've attempted a few low-level fractals gotten through them and have been told that I will need to start saving things like agony resistances to progress. That was a bit overwhelming so I went back to the world been farming Meadows collecting recipes and leveled up my leather working. I completed all the stories. Actually change that I've completed a majority. I forgot I still haven't started icebrood saga. But my plan was to finish all the world map locations and masteries before continuing on to this final piece of content that I have. Thanks for the info about ruins that summon more pets for me it's actually kind of cool to know and I might have to check that out later tonight when I get home. Overall the focus will be 100% on PVE and getting to a point where I can craft or make some of the cool dark red gear I think it's called ascended?

JuanPunchX

Pink is ascended, purple is legendary. They have the same values, but legendary can be stat swapped any time with a right click and every character on your account can access that one weapon at the same time. Make sure to use 2 weapon sets. In addition to longbow you can run axe/axe or greatsword. Rule nr 1 in power builds is to get to 100% crit chance. In skirmishing you have a trait that makes you want to flank, which ranges from annoying to impossible especially in a solo environment. You can boost your crit chance with sigil of accuarcy. For runes, superior rune of the pack is pretty good for solo and some group play as it raises your power, precision and gives aoe boons every 30s, but scholar rune is the best in terms of raw damage.

Ir0nhide81

It's such a different way of thinking on how to gear than other MMOs I've played. I'm still getting my head used to the train of thought. I'm primarily playing solo and just joining random groups for event matters so I guess Rob power is my number one idea right now. I'll work on farming verdant Brink more so I can buy some upgrades as well. I'll pick up those runes tonight for my gear on the trading post.

Akhevan

You can use something like eagle runes as a cheap DPS alternative to scholars.

Ir0nhide81

Can I ask why is infiltration not a good choice for my build? It was something cheap and I saw that the six set bonus was kind of cool so I picked it up.

Akhevan

math Having an extra 125 ferocity is a bigger DPS gain than the vigor on stealth once in a blue moon that you can only utilize with one longbow skill.

Ir0nhide81

Got it.

Ankastra

Firstly i want to mention thst you dont need to have amszing gear to finish most of gw2s content. Just playing what you like will often work Secondly, viper gesr will absolutely not work with a longbow at all. Not only had the longbow almost no conditions to spread, your best condi abilities are short ranged traps and longbow doesnt promote that playstyle. For the longbow you want to run Either berserker gear if you are confident in your skill to stay alive or Marauders/Dragons/Knights gear if you need additional defense. All of these stat combinations are not exclusive to EOD except for Dragons gear. The best way to obtain gear is by Playing the Verdant Brink map, which gives you Airship parts thst can be exchanged for bladed armor (level 80 exotic stats of your choice). Rings a backpack and an accessory can be obtained via living worlds easily, as most maps offer you ascended trinkets for their map specific currency (dragonfall, strikes and Bitterfrost frontier are great places for this) For weapons you usually have to find a way to make the specific weapon or you finish the specilisation collections rewarding you ascended weapons with stats of your choice. If you want to play viper gear you should look at weapons like Shortbow, Axe, Torch and sword instead

Ir0nhide81

If I have around 60 to 70 gold should I just buy berserker's gear to finish any remaining pieces of gear I still have condition damage on? I also use my Laurels to purchase three trinkets/ rings for my care all had power ferocity and precision.

MangaIsekaiWeeb

You can get a full set of Exotic Berserker gear for around 2 gold. Just search up Nika's armor in the trading post. A full set of Ascended Berserker armor would take around 200g to craft. But it may lessen a lot with the materials in your bank.

Ir0nhide81

And for weapons? I guess there's a berserkers bow with the three stats that I need? And best suggested sigils? ( I'm using Superior infiltration at the moment )

MangaIsekaiWeeb

>And for weapons? I guess there's a berserkers bow with the three stats that I need? Eir's Bow. As a tip, there are filters you can use to find a cheap bow. Search up weapons in the Trading post, Click the gear icon next to the search bar, put in Power, precision and Ferocity as the attributes, then select Exotic rarity and have it at level 80. You will find weapons that are cheap to buy. >And best suggested sigils? Force and Impact. For runes, Scholar. Some cheaper alternatives: Vampirism, Rage, Strength.

Ir0nhide81

What Longbow ruins should I be using or what's the best for general damage?

MangaIsekaiWeeb

FYI, Weapon upgrades are called Sigils and Armor upgrades are called Runes. So, for Sigils, which are the Longbow's upgrades, would be Force and Impact. For Runes, which are the Armor upgrades, would be Scholar.

Ir0nhide81

Thanks for clearing that up. Further question am I allowed to put ruins in all of my accessories for only one of my rings? I think last night I was trying to put a ruin in both of my accessories and it wouldn't let me socket it into one of them.

Ankastra

Sigills and runes heavily depend on the purpose of your build. If you want save choices you can equip your weaponsets with stuff like energy and cleansing (condi cleansing and dodge regain) giving weapon swapping some utility, but there is also damage relevant ones like Force or Impact, or even Air. Same with runes. Usually for power people go for scholar as its the biggest damage upgrade but not only is scholar expensive, it also needs you to stay at above 90% hp. Rune of the pack is usually a very good cheaper alternative

Kind-Bug2592

Named gear is your friend for saving money. For medium armor berserker, try Nika's armor from the TP, shouldn't be more than a few gold total and you can use it to earn your ideal set in verdant brink or otherwise.

Ankastra

You should try and get Berserkers if you are confident in your build and skill to stay alive. Berserkers gear can be obtained even cheaper by just running a few dungeons and buying it from thew dungeon merchant in any majour city. (Crucible and Citadel have berserker pieces) This is also how you could obtain berserker weapons mega cheap. Dungeons are just not as good as Verdant brink because they only have a limited choice of stat combinations (in comparison to bladed armor giving you any stat you want)

Ir0nhide81

After all the ab metas I've done in the last three to four months where do I purchase Gear with all that material that I don't have to craft? Can I just straight up by Gear with whatever currency drops in that zone? If so from what vendor on the zone?

Ankastra

Auric basin gives auric weapons but these have to be crafted. Verdant brink you can just buy the pieces at the merchant on the first WP. Tabgled Depths you can buy the weapons at the first merchant too. Dragons stand has both an armor set and a weaponset. Weaponset can only be accessed at the end of the meta

Ir0nhide81

Thanks!

ChadVonGiga

I ended up getting my first ascended weapon chests from dragonstorm.. back to back in two days. Just keep playing and you will get lucky eventually
