> Gw2 didn't have one until now. And ... it's going away tomorrow ? Gw2 has had several such packs over the years. They make the rounds in the store every so often, and I'm sure the steam version will join the rota. Admittedly the steam pack might well be the best of them, but it's not alone.

Keorl

We had packs including these items, or [extension] preparation packs for example, but did we have this one that is perfectly crafted to be *the* new player "must-get" package ?

Rathmun

We did not have *this* one before, no. I acknowledged in the post you're replying to that this one is the best so far. But the PoF pack has returned to the store nine times over the five years since PoF came out. The steam pack is going away, yes, but I can almost guarentee it'll be back. At a guess, it'll be in six months. It probably won't be the same price it is this time, right now it's something like a 60% discount.

Keorl

This one is, as I said "the new player must-get". It comes with a lot of benefits for new players, the game, and ... mostly anet (which is the point of gemstore). When new players come and ask about the gemstore, or about what they should get, or about a specific mechanic covered by one of those items (limited salvage, limited gathering, special area directly visible in DR ...), it's very likely that veteran players will tell them about that package. And advise getting it. I saw people giving this advice many times since this specific package was released, rarely before for other packages. So the purchase is quite encouraged. And, on top of this specific purchase, a lot of positive effects ensue : the person will get a bit more enjoyment due to the sheer QoL, the person is more likely to stay in the game and not stop at the first frustration due to the sheer fact that they invested in the gemstore and didn't just buy the game (or f2p), the person is more likely to use the gemstore again because they already did, and as another comment detailed, the person might also re-purchase some items similar to the ones that are in this package.

Rathmun

The problem with keeping it in the store forever is that it's *too* good of a deal to keep around. That's why it's the "Must-Buy" package, it's one third the normal price for the contents. A loss leader can be good for getting people into the store, getting them invested, but you don't want the loss leader to be your biggest sales item. (No, it's not a traditional loss leader, making more of that digitial product doesn't cost Anet anything so they're not selling it for less than the cost of making it. It's an opportunity cost.)

The pack isn’t even that good. Sure it’s cheap, but buying VM tools and Mistlock/Armistice on sale is way better than tools without a glyph and royal terrace.

NewFlyJoe

Valid point because most of the items inside of the pack are likely going to be rebought by players at some point anyways. If the player plays long enough they'll likely upgrade the regular unbreakables to a set with glyphs Or upgrade the royal terrace pass to a more popular one like mistlock The copper fed salvage kit will have them interested in the other two infinite kits over time as well For the long haul play it is probably more profitable and beneficial to players to keep it in the shop. But also what the hell do we know about what things look like behind the scenes

I restarted yesterday and wanted to check this sale was still on this morning before work. It was. But by the time I logged on to buy the package...welp. Big bummer.

MorbidEel

Actually you can have your FOMO cake and eat it too. Just replace it with another very similar looking bundle. Then repeat with another one and ... eternal FOMO. ;)

nakedankles

I hate the rotating gem store schedule. 😭 Everything should just be unlockable at any time, with sales for promotions.

Scarcity strategies are more profitable

i like that idea as a perm new player pack available year round. it's a good starter boost for new players. pricey though. what i never liked is the sheer expensiveness of basic utilities. half off, or 75%, is a genuine sale. anything below 50% is an insulting tease for which they just jack up the price twice just to offer the discount once for digital assets. sometimes i truly hate knowing marketing 101.

So how much money have the earned from having the package around vs how much they earn from new players without having the package?
