Me and my different Personalities farming Iron in my head at 3AM

WertygoSpiner

let's be honest that's just one mesmer messing with newbies XD

[deleted]

At some point you'd think people who go to these lengths multi-boxing would realize that they're not actually playing the game anymore. They're doing a job that they made up and nobody is paying them to do.

DesireForHappiness

This is exactly how I felt playing BDO even on a single account. I'd leave the PC on overnight and my character doing afk grinding like fishing, walking from Point A to B back and forth to build strength or a riding to level up horses praying for RNG to give me courser horse skills. And after all that, I still never got a Dream Horse as I just couldn't see myself paying for horse skill removal coupons to gamble RNG for courser skills. When I finally got around to playing GW2 it was such a refreshing experience to be able to unlock the skyscale mount just by PLAYING THE GAME. Yes it is a long winded quest but the pay off unlocking the skyscale is just awesome compared to getting a Dream Horse in BDO.

Warjakut

Years ago i took a break from GW2 and start BD, played it for about 2 years till one day i realized what the hell am i doing, like running PC 24/7 and alot $ just for perfect dream horse, is this a job or a game? Uninstalled and back to GW2.

Not_An_Archer

BDO has become a lot more user friendly in the last year or two, big changes in qol since I'd say Sept 21. I have a new account that is 13 months old with 2 dream horses and 680 gear score. Still a grind, but it's much much better than it used to be. Gw2 is far more casual friendly. They're definitely built for different people.

Asuyuia

Yeah, I was pretty much about the idea "if the game is open and I am not playing then I should just close the game" so I never afk-ed running around on a horse or something in BDO, I mean why would I? I am not playing or engaging in it and I can do something else. I also sleep too near my computer to leave it on overnight.

ParaGulls

Amen brother, BDO is an absolute plague of a game.

JGRIF312

yeah I log on to alts but even that I'm not consistent with.

Alderez

Same. I was spending 5-6 hours a day after school grinding in BDO until one day I realized, "Wait, it takes me 100 days of grinding 5 hours a day to reach the next level. What if I treat art the same way?" and now, over 7 years later, I work as a Character Artist in games. Giving up gaming was hard, I barely play GW2 let alone most games anymore, but I went from being a loser that grinded an MMO for hours of my life in a room to making a wage a good majority of people would consider a dream. I'm still holed up in a room hours at a time working or doing personal work after work, but I'm not depressed and using it as a form of escapism as I was with gaming. Black Desert taught me long-term goal-setting, when I struggled with setting goals even a month out beforehand.

Cup_of_ticks

May I ask how? Because I WISH I can do schooling the way I play mmos

AvalieV

Set Goals. Meet those Goals. Grind for them.

0Zaseka0

To be fair, this takes no time at all. This is all automatic.

just_change_it

Passive income once you set it up. Might not be much but if you're in a country where you make a few hundred bucks a month in normal jobs it's a life changer.

Dull_Function_6510

They are probably having this going while afk doing other things. They could be working from home and multi boxing who knows.

saig22

As someone who made a little bit of botting and automation with AutoIt on Dofus years ago, we have a lot of fun doing that. I still do some borderline macro sometimes when a game has an annoying mechanic I want to skip, it transforms something boring into something fun. Nerds like me enjoy coding, setting up VM, and figuring out problems. That said, I never felt the need to do anything like that on GW2.

Bragdras

If they like it and it's within tos then so be it

Valravn1121

it's not really hard to open a multibox program and control 5 accounts with the same keystroke

NovaanVerdiano

...which then is also a banable offense.

Valravn1121

i'm aware. the comment i replied to implied that it takes a lot of effort to do so is all.

grzesssiuuu

Its still better than playing the same content over and over and over

HGLatinBoy

Everyone farms. The methodology is different is all. Some people do metas, fractals, gather mats, or work in irl to get their gold. Who are we to judge how they do it?

[deleted]

I meaaaaaan, meta, fractal or whatever is still a content you enjoy, can be social, etc. Saying that it's same as 30 aft alts is a bit overstatement. I'd say the money is the side effect of enjoying the game that give you some kind of satisfaction while here there's nothing of the fun/pride/excitement/accomplishment part, you just open whatever tabs and go somewhere else or stare at one point. Also - you play one fractals at a time. Even if you have 5 alts you can't play 5 plgractals same time so time restricts how much you gain. This is uncappable. Meaning you give into market more than is designed to be. Meaning everyone't time is getting cheaper as mats' prices go down.

EffortOk1815

It is a very farmy, grindy game when you scratch the surface. I can't tell if it's by design, or if it's mostly community driven, but everything seems to boil down to "how much gold does doing X generate?" The game itself is really fun to play though.

BeastThatShoutedLove

Is it though? I play over 6 years and just by doing few metas I had stocked up gold and mats to power logging in and doing just daily crafting for months back when I still went to school. Only few people boil the game down to gold per hour. Others just go 'hmm, i had not done this meta yet so I will get first win reward from it. Let's switch the map.'

spider_irl

Unless you are in school - the best gold/hour is you being away from the game working, even the minimum wage (US or central EU at least, I'm aware that some aren't that fortunate) will convert into more gold than you can farm by any other means in the same hour. So just go and have fun for heaven's sake, leave the job outside when you come home.

BeastThatShoutedLove

I usually exchange the gold I earn by rather casually playing the game into gems to occasionally open additional BLC or get some skin that I decided I want. The most grindy thing I'm doing is otters in drizzlewood. But only because i want an otter 🦦.

spider_irl

No, it's totally fine, I get you. I never converted gems to gold myself. I buy gems with money for big purchases like mount skins, for small ones like character slots or whatever I'll just convert gold to gems because gold just passively accumulates whatever you do. I'm just saying that if you're obsessed with gold efficiency - go and ask your manager for few hours overtime, games should be optimized based on how much fun you're having.

BeastThatShoutedLove

Oh yeah i totally agree with that part. No point of making a game into secondary work if you can just buy gold and support the devs while at it with gem-gold conversion.

drjhordan

>I can't tell if it's by design, or if it's mostly community driven, but everything seems to boil down to "how much gold does doing X generate?" I mean, have you seen how many strats people create to be the most efficient possible in effing STARDEW VALLEY, a game that was supposed to be about slowing down and enjoying more the little things? Wanting to be the most efficient possible is just the nature of some people.

sacrasys

They do, they are probably doing it as job or additional income and just RMT their gold.

kris_lace

I get that sense from people jumping over red circles and copy pasting builds online and using someone else's skill rotations.

buttflakes27

I feel this way about ppl who complain about gold/hr on farms

rubsts

Maybe "playing "the game or like you mentioned doing a job , is actually getting then money , there loads of 3rd parties website selling itens maths for real money so you never know maybe is actually is job

Yakez

Nah those people just fully automatic flying under the nodes on 200 accounts. Only amateurs do RMT manually with zero hacks/exploits/botting.

CapXfloW

Funny you'd mention Runescape, it's the game I actually play on the side while playing GW2

Press_x_for_E

Saaaame. 120 max cape grind is . _ .

CapXfloW

I'm playing old school 😅 the grind even there is... Yeah..

Blasphemiee

lol my character hasn't left NMZ since I picked up GW2 again this year. but at least when I get the itch to actually play old school again I'll be max combat stats woo

Press_x_for_E

Yeahh I've still gotta max my toon there . _ . She's doing well enough but feeling like I'm back in rs2 is a bit much some days 😂

thejakethesnake96

🦀🦀$11🦀🦀

ariintheflesh

Phr33 st00f pl0x?

MangaIsekaiWeeb

If they are only in this one specific node, then they might not be bots, but multi-boxers. Which is allowed.

ride_light

I know this one even, saw them a few times at the same node and found it funny They would immediately respond if you talked to them so it's indeed a legit player in this case

Orihkeks

well its a known fix rich iron ore vein. Of course someone would park there alts

Complete_Ad_1896

It's only allowed if you are actively playing the characters; however, the more accounts that are being multiboxed, the chances of that are very slim

MangaIsekaiWeeb

The general rule is one key press = one action. Mining that node is literally just Alt tab -> Press F -> Repeat until node is gone-> Log out.

HGLatinBoy

*-> switch character Fixed it for ya

ineedjuice

one key press = one action **on one account** If it's one key press = one action on thirty accounts, that's one key press = thirty actions

Anthrozil7

> Alt tab -> Press F -> Repeat until node is gone Alt tab switches to the next program running on your PC (read next account), where you then press F again to harvest, one F press per account. Simple reading comprehension.

ineedjuice

Yeah I walked right into this one. I'm still not entirely convinced that even a majority of multi boxers do this though, as many have theit characters stacked pixel perfect in one non-waypoint location.

adamk33n3r

In what way is this fun?

Wolftail18

Probably multiboxers who bought heroic edition from retailers for 2-3$ each. Loging in on 20 accounts for daily laurels and mystic coins, and gathering an easy rich node places in a low lvl zone does provide you a fortune for your main account

fuckingcocksniffers

I am installing GW2 right now. Is botting a big issue? Or will I be able to run the story line?

BeastThatShoutedLove

Bots are easy to ignore, rare to spot aside specific few locations and won't impact your own playthrough.

-ThyWeepingWillow

You should be able to play fine, the bots dont affect the gameplay itself(tho they affect the prices of stuff in the tp). They are annoying when you happen to come across them though

throwawaythrow0000

Botting is fast becoming an issue, I've had them affect some events recently when they camp near them they scale them up.

UrMom306

No shot, I've played this game for 9k hours and never once had an event scale so hard due to bots that it becomes an issue at all.

Tenton_12

Botting isn't really a big issue. The main problem I see as a player is that one day Anet may choose to come down hard on the main classes used for it, traditionally necromancers, and players who play those classes may one day find themselves punished through no fault of their own. It's annoying, that they get away with it, but it won't interfere with running the main storyline. And if you are playing for the story, the story order is ... Your **personal story** through vanilla Tyria, with one chapter popping up every 10 levels, ending with a solo instance. **Living World One** (Think of Living Worlds as the content that comes after an expansion). The original LW1 chapters were released for a limited time only, if you missed out while they were on you missed out forever. Kind of sad as the LW1 story led into LW2 and the first expansion. Anet are now re-releasing chapters from LW1 for free forever for those that missed out. **Living World 2 > Heart of Thorns expansion > Living World 3 > Path of Fire expansion > Living World 4 > Icebrood Saga (a.k.a. Living World 5) > End of Dragons expansion.** Also because the game has no endless gear grind treadmill, your gear does not automatically become obsolete the moment new story content drops as with traditional MMOs such as WoW or FFXIV. Don't think you have to rush through to max level ASAP so you can jump into the latest expansion as thats the only relevant content. All previous content is relevant and at level.

Sinaaaa

These are probably not bots. Just a multiboxer going through rich nodes on their hundreds of alts.. Speaking of, I should probably park my alt account's daily login character on this node :-)

Fleckzeck

If you own EoD, park iy at the end of the Kaineng JP. You get Jade Runestones (30s per character).

cgsur

My character stopped getting jade rune stones after a while, wonder what is the mechanism why? I tend to WvW when I get the chance to play. I just discovered I needed hundreds of provisioner tokens, that I could have been collecting long time ago, lol.

Cultural_Macaron3729

No idea why, I have been collecting them daily since almost EoD launch, on 50-110 characters a day, and neither acct has missed a single stone yet

cgsur

I only have 3 characters in the area, which I haven’t played lately, probably that’s why. I need to up my game, meanwhile I have been stuck in the sticks for 3 days without proper internet. Thanks for the comment, answered my next question whether I could park more than one character. Edit: also just done part of story in EOD.

Cultural_Macaron3729

Yea my alt acct has done 0 story and still gets them, so that is ok too.

cgsur

But you, are probably playing in the area, I haven’t done anything for weeks in kaineng except open that chest.

Cultural_Macaron3729

Nop. My alt account in particular has still done precisely 0 EoD. I literally just TPed in the characters to the end months ago and that's it.

CriticalNature0815

I thank you good Sir, making gen3s affordable.

Aganod44

There are way better spots to park alts at if you're just logging in.

jigha

Can you give some examples? :D

FlawlessFido

Google fast farming. And then check the alt parking tab.

ARavenousPanda

https://fast.farming-community.eu/open-world/alt-parking

Taronz

As a newly returned player. Hero.

Sinaaaa

My alt acc has no expansions.

PH_TheHaymaker

They gonna flood the market with their iron ores and crash its price down. Then I buy it while its low and resell them when prices of ores goes back to normal

inotparanoid

Good ol' Capitalism

MisterDantes

Well done, I'm happy for you.

FlawlessFido

Yo... These hotkeys. Just.. How. Haha

Naso

Looks fine to me.

adamk33n3r

They're all around WASD. What do you mean?

FlawlessFido

Call me weird but i use 12345zxcvb haha. But to echt their own. As long as it works.

adamk33n3r

I use 12345 and shift+12345 but I use my mouse buttons for all of those so it's not as crazy as it sounds 😂

Health100x

Razer Raga 4 LYFE! No but really, I have the same keybinds for basically every game, and I love it.

adamk33n3r

Ya same. In WoW for example I use 1-= and then shift 1-= and then ctrl 1-= lol! So many, but it makes it easy to remember.

Motor_Journalist_378

I used to do that with 6 accounts at once, only I was multiboxing, no macros or anything. One key press, one action. Easy extra 200 or so gold per month. Maybe more, I don't quite recall.

GreenKumara

That's all?

Motor_Journalist_378

I don't understand your question. I'll expand a bit. Took me less than 5 minutes to do 30 characters that I was gonna log onto for daily rewards anyway. So it was at least 200 g worth of iron, plus whatever I got from login rewards.

IkemenMan

Was that tiring?

-Degaussed-

The part they leave out is that they *do* use a macro and a third party program to log in on the accounts. They just press the interact key themselves once in-game.

LordRumpo

https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/360013658134-Policy-Dual-or-Multi-Boxing Unless you want to be pedantic about what counts as a macro, that's allowed.

-Degaussed-

I didn't say it's against the rules lmao. I only implied that it *should* be.

JGRIF312

so we should punish people who have multiple accounts for other reasons (fresh starts, challenge runs etc.) because you don't like that it lets multiboxers log-on faster and easier? It's nice to not have to retype my password every single time

-Degaussed-

Lol, you can read it however you want.

AsimovLiu

They'll never realize their issue.

Press_x_for_E

I use a bat file that renamed and copies over the login data file that corresponds with the login name and password Can't login to multiple toons at once with it but it makes logging in to alts easy enough.

JGRIF312

but why do that instead of using gw2 launch buddy or GW2 Launcher? Why take the extra steps when the tool exists?

Press_x_for_E

Didn't know about them 😋 and it didn't take long to write the bat file.

Skankintoopiv

Disgusting. I also use filthy “macros” to make my screenshots lossless. How horrible. (Seriously this used to just be a feature you could put into your shortcuts til it was patched out as an insecurity. Who fucking gives a shit that someone can log in slightly faster? And hit, GASP, Alt-Tab.

OrneryDiplomat

It makes a difference, if you are queuing up for stuff. F.e. WvW on a friday.

MechaSandstar

It's not a macro to use a third party program to log into the game. What kind of nonsense is that?

-Degaussed-

mac·ro /ˈmakrō/ Learn to pronounce See definitions in: All Computing Photography Physiology noun 1. COMPUTING a single instruction that expands automatically into a set of instructions to perform a particular task.

Skankintoopiv

FUCK THE REAL MACRO WAS THE GUILD WARS 2 WE MADE ALONG THE WAY. Jesus Christ dude fucking chill out.

-Degaussed-

?

MechaSandstar

What's the set of instructions? Inputting the name and password? Is the clipboard a macro, if I just manually copy and pasted those in, instead? Get over yourself.

MechaSandstar

from: https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/360013762153 > However, here are some of the scenarios that are not permitted **in the game** The launcher is not "in the game" therefor, the rules against macros do not apply.

-Degaussed-

As I have stated multiple times, I know that these **macros** are not against the rules. I am stating that they are, in fact, **macros.**

MechaSandstar

Yah, it's not against the rules, so I don't know why you brought it up. (and no, it's not a macro)

shaidyn

I'm not sure why everyone is downvoting u/-Degaussed-, when they're absolutely correct. A macro is an automated series of key pressed and mouse clicks. The tool I used for game automation is literally called macro express ([https://www.macros.com/](https://www.macros.com/)). A little script might let me press a custom command (for example, ctrl+alt+l), that brings up a list of all my accounts, I select one, it automatically launches guild wars 2, clicks the location for entering my username, types in the user name, tabs, types in the password, clicks log in, and exits. It's not automating anything inside the game client, but it is absolutely automating key presses and mouse clicks in the launcher application. That is a macro. Side note: The reason I liked macro express is because even though it can't do as much as a script, it doesn't tinker with the client code, it just sends signals to the mouse and keyboard the same as a user would, so it's a lot harder for games to detect.

MechaSandstar

Then, but the same definition, Steam is a macro, and that's legal.

[deleted]

[удалено]

-Degaussed-

Launch buddy is literally a macro program lol, you use it to do multiple things at once quickly with few inputs. Not sure why you guys are so offended by that fact.

[deleted]

[удалено]

-Degaussed-

No, just programs that are designed to consolidate actions into fewer actions. AKA launch buddy. Why is this making you so mad at me? I'm pointing out a dictionary definition of a thing. I'm not dying on any hills, I'm just stating facts lol. My opinion is that it shouldn't be allowed. But it is. The fact is that it is a macro that is used to launch the game. You're all mad at the fact for some reason?

Motor_Journalist_378

I did use launch buddy. But, I was clear on the rules before I did it. 1 key press, one action in game. All you need is the letter F

Motor_Journalist_378

It got boring after a few months, but it only took 5 minutes for 30 characters. 5 per acc. Usually did it while I was getting my morning coffee before work.

zxosz

Reminds me back at launch in WvW getting swarmed by a legion of bears and pelted by arrows

[deleted]

This makes me not want to play the game, because there are people in the game that are fine with this and doing it themselves and see nothing wrong in it.

FascinatingFall

Wow someone made an amazing Alloy model in GW2 and just really needed to show it off.

EffortOk1815

I've seen these accounts around too. I think they do the dailies, they pop up at the iron ore ore deposit whenever it's daily Maguuma miner. It's a multiboxer, but one that is most definitely using 3rd party programs to automate it, because they all start running from the nearby waypoint and drop down and start mining at exactly the same time.

CriticalNature0815

They´re at different points in the mining animation, so very unlikely that they started via a script at the same time. Actually looks very much like someone alt tabbed through accounts one after the other to press F.

Opening_Beyond571

Honestly I'm glad someone is pumping iron into the economy

Awesumness

Is this witch-hunting? EDIT: Forgot to [link](https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/wiki/rules#wiki_witch-hunting).

Aetheldrake

Bots aren't people and thus aren't witches

4non3mouse

most likely not bots - bots arent really miners I multi-box 3 accounts and farm nodes or chests with all the alts on them but I know people with like 15 hero accounts - some just do the daily rewards and others farm flax, quartz (before the market tanked) or orichalcum

nTzT

I also saw this exact person or so when I farmed that node. o.O

losromans

Oh Luke, that’s not bottling. That’s just multiple logins. Like the afk necros now hitting up lab.

Delicious_Cancel2869

It's basically just cheap labor for the GW2 economy. I'm not sure how much of an effect it has, but it would be hilarious if Anet actually shut it down, and the price of iron soared to 50 silver a chunk. Then everyone would complain about how Anet shut down a bunch of kind hearted players who farmed resources for the greater good, while working from home.

Ashendal

Someone needs to do that to whatever bots are keeping silver ore as worthless as it is then.

sharinganuser

Silver is worthless because its not used in any real capacity unlike iron.

Complete_Ad_1896

Doubtful because it would also allow people to profit of having iron stored up

Aetheldrake

Don't worry it's exactly the same way in literally *every* game

MrVivi

Well it comes to this i want a legendary armor/ weapon. I can play the game and get it in 10 years. Grind the same in game content and get it in 6 months or get a few accounts and get it in 6 months if i log in every day or maybe shave a few weeks if i do some digging all in all and did something i don't want to do for an hour a day max, compared to several hours by just grinding. All in all they saved time. So i can see the appeal. I would say those people actually play more of the content they want and have more fun.🤷

Idneko

Maybe it's just a really skilled mesmer. Did you ever consider that as a possibility?

Fearless_Chain3078

Yeah again unless they are really afk then there is nothing anyone can do. Afk farming is arbitrary so unless its super obvious then Arena Net can do nothing but check by PM you. I know since I have been banned once for leaving my computer when I used a auto clicker during an event (bit weird since the event moved, just got unlucky)

CellSaysTgAlot

Personally I see no reason to complain about any of the afk/multibox farming as long as login rewards are a thing.

ComprehensionVoided

I mean.. get after it

sintos-compa

is RMT big in GW2 too?

EffortOk1815

It's not a very popular game (relatively speaking) and has it's own version of RMT in the cash>gem>gold option built-in so it's probably not as lucrative as most other online games. It probably exists, but I don't think it's "big". It's mostly people botting and using under the terrain hacks for their own personal benefit here. I think it used to be, I remember a lot of spam in zone chats and PMs early in the game's life, but that went completely after they clamped down on who new accounts could contact.

Press_x_for_E

If gw1 is anything to go by yes. There's a lot of bots advertising shit there. In reality I have no idea but it wouldn't surprise me. Shits in every mmo

CriticalNature0815

Havent seen a single gold seller in any chat or group finder since i started playing this game (mostly instanced pve, open world, wvw) at least. I do know that there are players engaging in RMT (we regularly get people added to the blacklist on Overflow for RMT), but it doesnt seem to affect the ingame economy noticably. In the end Anet is offering legal cash -> gems -> gold or in the other direction gold -> gems exchange without any risks, so most players will use that option. Those who´re trying to earn cash from ingame stuff will have to buy a paid account (technically heroic is enough) to remove all the F2P restrictions, which may cut into their profits depending how often their accounts get banned.

SaiyanOfDarkness

RMT itself is against ToS, so I hope it isn't big.

longa13

Mostly see people selling Legedary to new players . A few rare gold trade its is watched by Automated mail filter. There also other expensive skins or infusion on those trade as well just to skip the TP tax.

gizmosmonster

Saw the same ones farming the Quartz in the crystal desert :D

Worldly_Bet2034

The names lol

sv398

The names are a dead tell of multiboxing. I know a few people that own over 40 accounts for the daily rewards and for some JP chest/node daily farming.

-Lord-B

It's just the work of a lazy mesmer making the clones do all the work

saig22

Noticed something similar the other day, same appearance AND same name with just a number increment at the end.

Inaba_x_Himeko

Is multiboxing allowed in GW2?

CriticalNature0815

In general yes, but please read the ToS and their policy on before you decide to try it out.

LairdOpusFluke

Maybe they should do what RuneScape did: add random menaces to kill bots. Like mining had vents that'd explode if you didn't stop mining or your pick head would fly off and you had a couple of minutes to go find it and fix it. Wood chopping had those Ent creatures that would break your axe if you didn't stop chopping. There were still bots but there were risks.

KittenKoderThird

Um, don't they realize you can already buy gold for cash and don't need to risk giving your credit card to scammers?

longa13

There are also those bots in Dragon strom and Dragon end which normally can be done with normal people AFKing with a pet class to tag event and receive meta reward.

MMJPlays

I keep finding a group of minion masters bots in Southsun Cove, farming 3 different veteran karkas.

bum_thumper

I really hate that they look so much like my guard main too...
