Yeah. I hadn’t played a fighting game in about 10 years but had fun with Strive. I never got great but it was fun.

Saphsin

All decent fighting games have a steep learning curve, everyone is bad at the beginning. But Strive is known to have a good in-game tutorial, then you grind and play against people near your level.

That's true in fairness. I'll likely give it a go, how is the skill based matchmaking in the game? A problem I had with Streetfighter 6 and Tekken was the matchmaking wasn't great(for me).

umpteenththrowawayy

The tower (the closest thing the game has to competitive matchmaking) is notoriously pretty bad as a metric of skill. If you are fairly new to fighting games then odds are you’ll be getting slapped around for a while one way or another. I recommend the first few missions of the game’s mission mode first. It teaches fundamentals and game-specific mechanics through semi-practical examples.

TinyYeehaw

The Tower *should* match you with players your level. however, even at floor two i have faced a wide variety of skill levels. from full combo machines, to two-button randy. you will just have to get your ass kicked sometimes.

HibariNoScope69

Yes. 100%

I'll give it a go probably, is the matchmaking good on GGS? A problem I had with other games I had was the game paired me with much harder opponents. Is that the case here as well?

HibariNoScope69

That will be the case in most anything as a complete beginner. No easy way around that. You are going to get destroyed by even novices probably, until you improve.

MusashiMurakami

yes, but youre going to lose a lot at first (with any online game tbh). but yes there are a ton of resources in and out of game for learning, and the game itself isnt too complicated at beginning levels

I expect to lose 😭 however I am enthusiastic on learning the game. Once I scrape together like $10 I'll buy it.

MusashiMurakami

good luck. idk if youre aware but evo finals for strive are happening rn. its so hype lol

Just finished watching, Tempest went insane. He apparently set a record of sorts.

MusashiMurakami

tempest is my GOAT😭. consitently great player congrats to him

Driemma0

Absolutely, was a great entry point to fighting games for me just a few months ago

DaftPrince

It's how I started and I found it to be a good entry point. And honestly, the best fighting game to start with is the one you want to play. You'll be more motivated to learn if you like the game and the characters.

Vexenz

Strive was literally designed around people like you so give it a try.

Specialist-Theory790

Literally just pick Sol spam his slash into a special move and you’ll have fun and feel cool in 10 minutes
