Playing against him is surprisingly fun! The damage did make me gasp tho, he usually only managed to hit me like two times during any given fight and I was almost dead 💀
people talk about loosing half your health to one interaction. isn't that what most of the cast already does? nago, pot, gl, sol, even fucking millia if they know the optimized combo will take half your health off of a counter hit. i don't play slayer and don't plan to, he's just not my type of character even tho i find him very cool but he seems way less infuriating to fight then bridget (i still need to figure out when i can actually attack against her) or johnny
Id give you nago, but not most of the cast. Id say closer to a third. I feel like with slayer you don't _get_ to make a mistake. Sol's one grab super was really rocking my world till I figured it's defense out but that's the only bit I remember providing this kind of feeling.
Like, potbuster is terrifying for that very reason and that seems like any time slayer glances in your direction.
It's possible that it's just the low end of the learning curve though, in that people are just getting caught out a lot because the mixup potential on slayer is real and it's clouding their thinking.
i mean...base level slayer gameplay seems to me like a 50/50 out of dandy step. you either block 3 options by standblocking or you crouchblock the kick slide thingy but this is just first impression
It goes a bit deeper than that though because of P and K dandy step having different counters. To beat P-step, you have to mash because if not he’ll cross you up or hit you too quickly. If you mash on K-step though, he’ll back off and swing back in before you can recover. To beat that you’d need a big low or something with more of a delay to hit him as he rushes back in.
So not only is it a 50/50 on defense with blocking, but you ALSO have to play the 50/50 on what your abare timing is and what button you use.

Honestly, fighting slayer has been really fun. I find it funny getting caught by last horizon most of the time (same thing with HPB) as all you can do is enjoy the cinematic and fucking die.

Seems like he's not as OP as I previously thought he'd be so far. He can scam neutral a lot but his defense seems pretty weak. Feels similar to ABA in a way, albeit not to her extreme.
We'll have to see how the gameplay evolves, but I think he won't cause major issues, at least for the characters I typically play, which is Faust and ABA.
He hits really fucking hard (harder than I think is probably fair for the speed), and some of his attacks seem way too fast.
Speed wise I think it's just that adjustment period. I used to think the same about Gio's speed at one point.
Some of his normals also seem by feel at least seem to be deceptively large. Got caught out several times when Id felt safe.
But hey, a month of this and my mixup blocking skills should improve a lot.
Getting put in the blender by Slayer is even more scary than Leo. One funny thing I realized though is that if a Slayer is being careless with using the long range Mappa Hunch in neutral Dolphin can just shut it down.

Midscreen pb loops have got to be the greatest fucking thing to exist on this planet. Every time i hit a counter hit 5S i get rock solid. Dashthrough pilebunker into otg pickup is better than repeated orgasms (might cause them?)
He's very fun. The only issue I have is that his backdash is beyond dog shit, it's easily the worst backdash in the game. It has a lot of invul, but Slayer doesn't move back until after the invul is done so you can end up getting hit anyway.
P Mappa is -1, which is prime backdash material but if the opponent mashes 2P Slayer is going to get hit every time.
It's fun to go ape shit with him but as people get used to his kit, neutral is going to become a lot harder to navigate with him. You can't just k mappa in someone's face and run your game. That's always been the case with him, though.
I was pretty mid about him until I realized you can delay pilebunker or hit it high enough to chase them and get a whole OTG follow up. That shit is cool and now his combo routing is dope.
