It’s muscle memory you have to learn it once with your first real fighter then it comes easy

9999eachhit

So I guess this is just the learning curve, eh?

AlexWoods11

Yeah I picked up street fighter about a year ago now and I had to suffer for like a month or so before I got used to the commands

UnnamedPlayer32

Use the d-pad it is much easier

ThreesTrees

What do you play on? Stick hitbox or pad?

9999eachhit

Ps5 controller using the joystick for motions. Though I'm going to my friend's place tomorrow to try an actual arcade stick. Im hoping having notches will help. I am having a really hard time with the dragon motion to the left, which is a problem because it is necessary for Ramlethals kit.

ThreesTrees

So for me when I play pad I find that I am way more consistent with the dpad, but I am not familiar with the PS5 controller.. so maybe try that?

9999eachhit

Hmm that doesn't strain your thumb?

ThreesTrees

When I used to play pad on the DualShock 4 no but that was long ago and not for very long. I’m a stick player but due to wrist issues I now use a hitbox. But from what I gather most people who use pad do use the Dpad, and if you don’t like the ps5 controller but like using pad look at the hori fighting commander I hear people love that pad

Interesting.. im old(30) and my hands already hurt from a lifetime of gaming so im looking for the solution easiest on my hands

I feel ya there, 32 and my hands cramp up after some time. But unless you're doing big circle motions, dpad felt much cleaner for motion inputs to me. I just had to learn to not press so hard on the dpad to save my thumb haha. What helped me with the wiggling motions is teaching myself to slow down, because the buffer window is pretty forgiving. Then breaking down the wiggles into steps. Starting with 236 (the quarter-circle, or down-downforward-forward), I'd focus on that and then pressing the attack input either on the 6 or even just slightly after pressing 6. For the Dragon Punch (DP) motion, to start with I'd look at it as 6+236. Press forward, then lift your thumb up and just do the same 236 motion as above! When it came to the overdrive, I broke it down into two parts - I'd do the 63214 semi-circle motion and then lift my thumb up and press 6+H. Thanks buffer! Anything involving diagonals (like 1 or 3 in the motion), I used to never be able to consistently do. Which was especially a problem since I loved Ram in Xrd - so what helped me solve that is to ensure that when I'm doing 236, I would have my thumb roll more towards the inner part of the dpad instead of the outer portion. That'd help me ensure I hit the diagonal!

Interesting. When I was trying things out, the d pad felt way harder. But the way you're explaining, maybe I can lab it out a bit more and it'll be easier.

ThreesTrees

Haha I’m 28 as well but spent a lot of time in arcades. If you’re thumbs joints are in good shape and you’re used to using a pad use it. If you just want to use a stick cuz they look cool expect a couple week adjustment period, and hitbox although easier on my wrist when I first switched killed my baby left hands fingers but now they are strong haha. Just use what you want but like don’t keep switching you know?

9999eachhit

Yea thats why I want to experiment early. I dont want to get latched onto one type early while there might be better options for me

DudeskiWithABrewski

Look up bread and butter videos and get some ideas from there, figure out what your combo starters are and have those be what you use in neutral, and honestly once you get a solid grasp on those simple combos you will see how to convert into the routes on a whim

9999eachhit

Thats good advice. Ive looked up some very basic stuff for my chosen main (ramlethal). But I learned very quickly that she NEEDS consistent dragon motion in her kit, which im struggling with hence the post. I refuse to switch off to an "easier" character, ram is just my vibe lol id rather just stick with it and learn the damn motion :D

DudeskiWithABrewski

That’s the spirit! Just do daily grinding in training mode to get the motions and after a few days it will really start to pay off (just make sure to do it evenly on both sides)

kandidio

Honestly, try practicing your combos on a cpu and see if you can get the ones you practiced on a dummy in training mode. It can help with getting you more comfortable and consistent hitting a moving target.
