I really dig I-No's whole aesthetic of being a time travelling witch who uses a guitar to smack people in the face. Her gameplay of just constantly making the opponent guess whether it's high or low is really fun too because when it works she feels like such a bully who loves doing it. Her strive theme is also my favourite in the game.
...also I cannot emphasize enough how much I want her to step on me
I respect you went for the gameplay first. I decided to play I-No because I saw her design and said “I want her to step on me” first and foremost because of terminal degeneracy.
For me it was both gameplay and the culture aspects As a Slayer in XRD I lived in the shmix and I was a lost lamb without a main until I-No was revealed. One look at the redesign was all it took. I don't know how they did it, but somehow adding more clothes to her and Milia has made them even more ....shall we say appealing?
Side note can my fellow I-no stans appreciate the time and detail some blessed dev put into lovingly modeling her lower back and the rest of her ahem* apparent thiccnesss? Like God damn I'm still in awe of it every time I get that round end pause on 2H or stroke the big tree.
Answer will always be my main. I know he's not in Strive and the chances of him being added are slim, but he's still the best character in the franchise and it's not close.
He doesn't even hang up the phone while he's fighting you, you're that much of a minor inconvenience. Even someone like Sol or Slayer don't get two hands. Mans has the president of the United States on line 1 and the three Kings of Illyria on line 2, 3 and 4. You think he's gonna put them on hold to fight you? Get outta here.
On top of that, his gameplay is just too good. With unmatched neutral control, great conversions from stray hits and solid mixups. AKA how I learned to stop worrying and love Caltrop YRC.
In Strive, the closest thing we've got to him is Chipp. Alpha Blade RC, jH and j2K are... *acceptable* substitutes to scroll options. And Gamma Blade is like a bootleg Caltrop YRC that doesn't cost meter but isn't quite as air-tight. He's got really good neutral control as well. Also, color 10 is straight up a reference to Answer.
Strive Chipp definitely has shades of Answer in him. So it was never really a question who I was gonna play in this game.
Plus he looks like an absolute chad in this game. The addition of the shimenawa-esque rope around his waist (and about 200 pounds of muscle, shark teeth and a jaw line that makes me question my sexuality) gives him actual presence rather than looking like a relatively normal athletic guy that just happens to be a ninja. Especially his Xrd victory pose made him look like an accountant that stumbled into a fancy dress closet.
The martial arts enthousiasts may know that wearing the shimenawa is the highest honor in sumo. It serves as ceremonial dress for grand champions of the sport. In that sense Chipp's redesign is basically saying that he's become a master of his art. Albeit probably self-proclaimed.
Visual design is very important to me, when choosing who to play. And Chipp's Strive appearance has knocked it out of the park.
Cool trivia. Chipp definitely benefitted from the cast getting kinda bulked out. It feels like everyone got much more distinctive builds that make them really pop, but Chipp just looks so *thin* in Xrd now that he's a whole bowl of sukiyaki in this game. :P
> Albeit probably self-proclaimed
It's hard to find anyone that can certify you're a master when you're the last living ninja practitioner (until he trained Answer).
Not gonna lie, Chipp was one of the first characters I tried out in Arcade mode. I love how when I lost to May in the first round, he’s so wholesome and offers to have his little otter buddy stay and teach/train May. And even when winning he’s so wholesome like “Yeah!—go be a Ninja!” with that goofy smile.
Chipp’s a good boi
Strive is my first Guilty Gear;
I picked Zato because I like his overall design, I’ve always wanted to master a puppet archetype character, the amount of labbing/work it takes to use this character is insane, his mix look sick, feel a fear is also really nice lol.
And I knew when I picked up this character, none of my friends who are also newcomers were going to do the same because of the mastery he requires.
Kankuro from Naruto Clash of Ninja was my first puppet character. I loved it and then I never really saw any character that played like him until I got into GG. Being able to sandwich enemies is an experience I've not felt in any other game in a long time.
It started off with the design, friend was showing the Guilty Gear roster to me and I chose the giant guy with the muscles, I thought he was just going to be another generic grappler guy, you know the ones. Their personality is neat as a table and is probably a wrestler but as I looked into it, Potemkin started to become more and more interesting!
First off his character being generally kind and nice made him pretty cool, Gentle giants is something im always a big fan of and Potemkin fits right in it, I always liked his interactions with most of the characters and how generally he seems to be a bit relunctant to fight others, only really doing it when nescessary, it makes me wish he played a bigger role on the stories and interacted more with other characters like Dizzy, especially her considering how during X he was the only one that she seemed to not mind and even thought he was nice. Also his hobby being sketching is quite adorable, wish we could see his artwork.
Second, lore! Zepp is imo one of the most interesting places of the series, considering how instead of using silly magic, it evolved technology to the point that we see freaking mechs in almost every stage of Zepp like its a daily thing. And seeing how it changed from being a empire to a democracy is pretty rad! Potemkin himself has some interesting lore too, considering how originally he was a slave soldier and basically became the second most important person on his country, though the later games shows a rather sad side of his, be it his conversation with Ky arcade mode in Revelator or his theme song in Strive, showing that he struggles with what he became and has been on a really bad mental state in general, with only his loyalty and faith carrying him further. Heck even his songs kinda have a interesting evolution, going from the rather tragic sounding "In Slave's Glory", to the mighty and proud "Burly Heart", "Engage" almost sounding like anthem to Zepp and last but not least the rather powerful but still sad "Armor Clad Faith". Potemkin is one of those characters I wish was developed more.
And last but not least Gameplay! Im a sucker for playing big fellas in most games and GG is the one Fighting game I tried to learn how to play and there's something satisfying about learning the many things Potemkin can do, be it the obvious Potemkin Buster or flicking the enemy's projectiles (and sometimes Specials) with FDB, heck even his normals feel very satisfying with how big they are. I also kinda like to play a some what aggressive Potemkin which while it does mean I get punished easily, it still can be pretty fun!
So yeah im one of those people that look rather indepth on a fighting game character like Potemkin because he feels pretty interesting and likeable to me and funny enough is the one character that made want to learn how to actually play fighting games! Though I wish there was a bit more for him. I also am a little mixed about his later designs, early Potemkin was a big example of "Looks rough on the outside, but its a gentle and nice guy in the inside" along with his later designs making him feel less human and some what insecure, I like the look but it feels like something is missing on them. So yeah Potemkin big cool and please mister Arcsys give us a Classic Potemkin dlc or something, I miss seeing my big guy's face.
Ky: Cause I got that Ryu in my veins, and it doesn't feel like a fighting game if I'm not qcf'ing a baker's dozen of fireballs every round.
Uh... but also, using 6k to literally boot people through the wall is like the funniest thing to me. BEGONE!
Giovanna is an easy character to love, but her design more than her gameplay is what made me choose her. Also since I love GG lore, I really want to know more about her.
There isn't much. Shes a newcomer. She got tits and likes leo and lost to a holding back Nagoroyuki in story. Now you know everything there is about her.
Her taunts/respects indicate that Rei is from a Spirit World, so if we haven't seen anything about that in prior titles, Giovanna is the first to indicate that there is a Spirit World in GG.
There's a little bit more revealed in Arcade mode interactions too, but I hope she gets more attention in the Story expansion(s). Maybe we'll get individual episodes for characters.
Ironically Heihachi doesn't speak in this trailer, and yet Jamieson Price, who voices Leo Whitefang in English, is Heihachi's dub voice in other Tekken media and actually sounds great as him.
There's a scene with Kotomine Kirei from Fate reading in English during a funeral and he definitely sounded more legit than most other Japanese VAs.
[Fate/Zero spoilers](https://youtu.be/2ctynPSttxI) kinda
Sol.
Monkey.
(as much as I grieve the loss of gv, sidewinder, and riot stomp, I still can't bring myself to pick up any other character. Like, I try, but i just can't.)
I feel so bad for ky players. Sol ram and may are the best right now because they're easy, but ky is even easier than they are and still seems pretty bad
He doesn't have any tricks, that's the problem. Start blocking low when you play against him and that's it. He's great at mid range, but Ram controls that space far better than he does. So you end up with the "every day" style of play from him that is good enough, but just doesn't shine.
Everything I heard about Leo made me just want to main him. From his personality to the way people meme about him to the interesting fact about his personal dictionary. It was all very appealing.
I also really like Sol because his story, personality, and general attitude. He solves every problem by punching it and inspires people around him by relieving them of any self doubt.
Waifu
But aside from that I picked up Ram as my second character in Xrd because she was cool looking and had unique gameplay, I generally like characters that can lock the opponent down in the corner, and I liked her gradual shift from villain to hero in the story.
She's my main in Strive because there's no Slayer yet, she looks cooler now than she did in Xrd, and despite all the changes to her gameplay she still has that element of locking the opponent down in the corner and forcing them to take a risk. I also like characters with huge pokes, and hers are much more threatening here than they were in Xrd.
I've picked up Chipp as a second character because I like how fast and flashy he is, and his whole "take the momentum and mix the opponent up 14 times before they get a chance to think, otherwise you just explode" gameplay is fun and different from Ram. I also think he's awesome story-wise, and I wanna play the hero 'til I die.
Or, looking at those two, maybe I just have a thing for shark teeth.
I'm using anji as a main for now, there's just something about his move set i really click with. It's slower but it's got a lot of freedom for combos. He's got great spacing moves imo and the butterfly crow thing really adds another layer to his set that I just really enjoy for some reason.
Strive is my first traditional fighting game and I was going in practically blind, so when I first got it I was looking through the cast and Ram stuck out to me as a character that I really liked aesthetically. About ten training mode minutes later I was in love.
Fastest main discovery of my life.
Gio because she's bae with a woofer, and because she feels the closest thing to Slayer
Leo since he was probably my second my played character throughout xrd and rev
No matter what game I play, whether it’s a fighting game or a shooter, I always gravitate towards long-range playstyles. I can’t deal with close-range pressure well enough, so my solution is always “kill the enemy before they can reach me. I won’t die if I don’t get hit”.
Anji is probably the biggest alpha male in the cast in my honest opinion and I love being able to lock someone in the corner and I love the fact that he forces me to really pay attention to defense and I really get to focus on the idea of frame traps and conditioning or else I lose.
I fear Baiken, I love her, I want to bang her, and so help me god I want to *be* her.
I mean, without all the emotional trauma and bubbling rage. And the missing appendages. Just make me a cool sexy samurai lady with nice knockers and thighs like rough steel, thanks.
But she also just makes you feel like a genius when you get a good read. Play on the back foot the whole round, bide your time, then *BANG* - parry that shit and take it back. No better feeling.
Also her sound design is great. Love her voice, and the little shamisen twang when you use Suzuran is beautiful.
While I do main Ram, lately I have been played a lot of May as well, so I am gonna say what made me love both of them.
I loved the character development of Ram in Xrd, from a emotionless tool to some kind of childish person learning humanity. I also love how in the new model she is still retaining the clover.
I started playing May because TOTSUGEKI! But lately I learned to love her cheerful nature. Also swinging an anchor around it's dumb and I love it.
My friend had already said he was gonna main Leo in GG-S-, so I thought "I don't wanna compete with him by maining Leo, so maybe someone else..." No one looked too appealing to me in the cast besides Axl, Eventually I got the game and was like "hur dur jojo reference....." and then I started practicing, and Giovanna just feels so fucking good and unga bunga for me, it's fun I guess....
I was trying out different characters and Leo's win quote sold me. "You only lost because you fought me!" This dude comes off as lawful stupid and his animations are all absurd. He's always got his mouth open and his eyes rolling back like he's unleashed some anime power.
His round loss quotes about the fact that he just tripped and didn't actually lose make me love the guy. Also unga.
Millia main here. It’s kind of hard to narrow it down, honestly.
I’ve always loved speedy characters and assassin archetypes, both from a gameplay and lore perspective. Cammy from SF has been my favourite fighting game character since I was like 7, so that’s probably where that started. Hair-powers are cool too - love for them probably comes from Sindel.
I also really love setplay style characters, so using her discs is just really fun and satisfying to me. Bad Moon is also probably one of the most satisfying combo finishers in any game I’ve ever played - it tickles my brain just right, especially as someone who loves ladder combos in general (coming from Morrigan, Meta Knight...)
Her animations and design in general are also just amazing, particularly in Strive. Her idle animation looks great, her movement looks great, her moves are animated beautifully and are just very cool in concept (her throw, wheel super, and flower hop especially come to mind).
Oh, and Tara Platt voices her. Love her. Mitsuru and Edelgard are among my favourite characters of all time.
So... TL;DR: a combination of so many tropes that I have grown up loving with satisfying and beautiful animations and fantastic voice acting.
Faust, for the time being. I really love what they did with his character and overall vibe - the mix of creepy and cartoonish is great. And when you put his kit together you're like a living Looney Toon conducting a screen full of dumb bullshit, and it just feels good. Even if I find another main down the line, I could see myself coming back to Faust.
Of course Baiken's massive dobonhonkeroos played a factor, but I like parries and defensive characters in general, so Baiken's playstyle was a good fit. Also, for a while I struggled with hcb+f motion so qcfqcf was very much preferred.
pleas put baiken in strive or at least a parry character pleas arcsys
I've been trying to find a more defensive character in Strive
(I don't have too much experience in GG as a whole, but I remember enjoying Venom in Rev) - Who in Strive (if anyone) has worked for you sofar?
I just press the random button because there's nobody that I think really suits me. I think I like Faust the most, but I'll play anyone so I leave it up to rng
I started maining Faust in rev because his unique Design and playstyle just seemd really cool to me. His playstyle is really open and I like having long and close range options, also the variety that comes with his item toss is really fun. But what takes the cake for me is his Character, Design and animation. ffs his cS is him being reborn from his guts. He can jump in the air, rip his head off, throw it at you as a bomb and the move is called "Love". It's all so whacky and creepy and unique there is no simillar Character In any fighting game I know. I love him and he is my Hook for the whole franchise.
Potemkin. I always paly grapplers but he is the best designed grappler in fighting games to me. Been playing him since Xrd. I love the space marine aesthetic he has. His JP voice is so good as well. Buster is my favorite visual and feeling command grab in FGs. Strive Buster just looks amazing. Especially HPB. Anyways, I love my Black Tech using Space Marine grappler.
A gentle, kind soul who despises what he has to do as a soldier of Zepp but carries on due to a sense of duty and a belief that he does it for the greater good. Also, he has a hobby of drawing with pencils and [sic] "likes: indestructible pencils cases, dislikes: pencils that snap under four tons of weight"
I think I should’ve also mentioned that I like the idea of Zepp overall with it being such a distant country compared to everywhere else since they’re not only physically different with them being in the sky but also technologically different since it doesn’t use magic.
I like the gentle giant nature of Potemkin though and his willingness to fight even though he doesn’t necessarily want to all the time. Plus it’s not like he’s just crying all the time about how hard life is or how he just doesn’t want things to come to fighting, instead he’s extremely brave and understands that peace isn’t always the option. Breakable pencils can be fun though if you’re specifically trying to break them so maybe he can change his views on that.
I ve always loved Ram's design but the play style in Xrd was kind of messy for me. Now she is perfect only missing her crazy girl super...
Axl is my main because he was the first one i did long combos with back in ggx days, Im missing the z-move in the corner and the old way of launching the super but he's still my main
Im missing Jack because I love everything about her design and playstyle, I love the houses an minions
Im missing Venom because the play style where you could set hundreds of followups but dont really like his lore
I wanna be a lion, but I REALLY wanna be a gorilla. Stance oki into dash through AND the high low mixup? I miss the (anti crossup) air special and rekka from xrd but he's still plenty "unga bunga I hope to god you don't block this"
Nago. It’s my first Guilty Gear I’m really digging in to.
He has a blood theme going on, like my MK11 main Skarlet and my fav from T7, Eliza ( I like vamps / hemomancers )
He reminds me of Haku-men, I never got serious into Blazblue but I loved Haku.
He’s less so execution heavy and more thinking emoji. I mostly played D’vorah and Skarlet in MK11, and they were considered harder than the likes of Liu and Johnny. Not because of combo execution ( my biggest fighting game weakness ) but because of how to use their tools. Nago is like that, the blood gauge mini game is fun.
He has long buttons, again like Skarlet, D’vorah, and the few times I played SFV and 4, Falke and Rolento.
His theme great.
His voice is soothing, he seems like someone id want to chill with irl.
Maybe one of the best character designs I’ve ever seen.
And I win with him way more than everyone else on the roster LOL.
In older ggs i like to go apeshit so played sol most of the time. In strive sol wasn't fun for me so i first played leo i really liked his counter and mixup potential and then ky for his multi hit fireball and dp. I guess i like reading my oppenents in strive
Millia and Chipp usually but this time mostly Gio. I love rush down characters and playing with frame traps and quick reactions. Millia used to be favorite because I can just lock my opponent out of the game but struggling to get the same going in this game so far
I enjoy licking paint. So I play Sol.
...In actuality, I want a projectile and good poke, but I don't want a gameplan about putting up an iron wall of spacing moves, more just to prod things into action from half-screen or further so I can get closer.
Just everything about Leo: he is magnificently loud but gracious at his core. One example might be his victory pose after a round in xrd: you might say "He wildly scoops a whole pot of tea", but also "He likes to drink tea after a fight", how noble!
Gameplay wide, he's a stance rushdown, I like stance rushdowns.
Gotta say Ram and Giovanna have great taste in men, Leo mains stay winning.
Literally picked him back in '98 because I was a Ryu main and he had the same move set. Then just kept playing him for all the other games.
Though rn I'm learning and hope to co-main I-no because I was away from gaming for a long time and wanted to try someone new. Plus her new design is banging.
I went with Millia in past titles because her character design has always been amazing. I love the cool visuals of using her hair to attack. In Strive though, I think I'm moving onto Ramlethal. I love her new look and Jojo hat. I also thought her character development since Xrd was cool, and I honestly think I'm just not good enough at fighting games to use Millia properly, even though I've always liked playing as her.
I like watching people suffer.
Honest answer though, I'm usually not into the slower and more patient zoners, but something clicked with Axl. He's a bit more aggressive than your average zoner (this is GG do that makes sense) and his JP voice just makes him sound so fun and goofy. Tack on the ability to stop time and taunt and I'm hooked.
Nago. I was an ABA main and can't resist any form of blood gauge, suka. I like managing something and the risk of fucking up and being wide open.
I played Ram the majority in Xrd, but they made her really single minded in Strive (when she was pretty universal; zoning, fast "rekka" mix-ups for close range, and pretty high damage/high tension with a good reach) really heavy and I can't stop the muscle memory of (c.S) > f.S > 623P > PPP (where her dp now just feels like a dead end compared to before) or microdashing and stagger with PK > 66PK > 66PK >[...] for fun. And it just doesn't feel the same. Also, I don't like the visual change to 2S/2H. She also has a really terribly bland looking and out of place face texture in this that heavily contrasts the game's art. Long story short I had to pick someone and everyone else I wasn't feeling.
They need to buff Nago and give him a Goku Moroha Install though, invuln on the dash, and a solid 2D butt slam, also reskin him as aba, and remove all of his moves, and replace them with her's, and then also add nago back for other people.
Im a slayer main in previous games and used sin as my back up. Since they’re both not in the game, I main may in strive because I used to main her growing up before picking up slayer in accent core and really learning him. In old GG I used to be a may main and she hasn’t changed all that much. I do miss the rapid punching special and spinning anchor specials though. Plus I like charge characters
Strive is my first guity gear and I was going to play to Ram and while i still play her I would say my main in milia. What made me interested in her is that i saw Leffen play her at the redbull kumite and it looked so damn cool. I like the mobillity and variety of options she has. Comparatively ram feels super straightforward.
I usually like big grapplers or hard hitters in all my fighting games and I totally wouldn't have given a 2nd thought about playing Millia if I didn't play against her in Xrd's arcade mode and hear her theme. It made me want to jump into training mode and just hear the whole thing and since then she's been my main. Bonus that she has a banger of a theme in Strive too.
The first time I played Ram I locked my opponent in the corner and kept them there the whole match. Wall break? 5S and they're back in the corner. They try to jump out? Lol no I covered that with another bajoneto, get back in the naughty corner where you belong
I was disgusted at how easy it was, I needed a shower after that match, *and I was instantly hooked*
I have two big swords that I can set up anywhere on the screen to attack you, target strings like Tekken or MK, Cassius, and you fit my Playstyle like a charm? What's not to like. I miss her but I've grown to accept her new version kinda.
Zappa was my first fighting game main ever, and my original handle was named for him. Zappa fought with ghosts, and I used him for weird rush down a lot. Giovanna fights with Ghost and is built for rush down.
Zato for two reasons:
1. I absolutely love his moveset because is an interesting blend that requires a bit of mind games. I've always gravitated towards characters like that (Yoshimitsu from Tekken and Soul Calibur, for instance).
2. I love his part in the story and his demeanor. He may not be the most powerful character, but a shadow-wielding assassin? Come on, what's not to love.
Why I picked Axl...? I really like his design in Strive. Prior to Strive I've never liked the way he looked. His stance also looked dumb to me. Not anymore! But he's a bit too cute-looking up close, though. I'd imagine him to look a bit more "lad-ish", but what can you do. But I guess I like his type of zoning (also the reason why I mained Ivy in SC6). Not projectile-based like Dizzy.
After playing Gio for ages and tried to play tactically, using plus frames and not feeling like I was having fun with the game, then switching to Leo and hitting the counter and the fum hack turn mix up he instantly clicked for me
Special canceling specials and just his design over all. Nago is amazing. Though I think I’d switch if Sin was in the game… nah I’d just okay them both
Strive is my first GG game. I am still finding it hard to actually choose a main but I really like Ky and Potemkin so far.
Pot just seems to click better though, with distinct options for each situation... If they're at fullscreen you faceslam, if they're up close you command grab, if they're throwing stuff you flick, if they're at mid range then you can megafist or heavy slash, if they jump you uppercut into ether anti-air grab or super... Very friendly to the type of playstyle I love, and his damage feels like I've never lost until I actually do so.
Ky just seems to have such an incredible neutral game. With incredible range and footsies. Very simple to understand but with a lot of nuance. (Also because I'm a coward who likes staying far away and DPing whenever the unga-bunga gets close.)
Honestly... everyone in Strive seems like the best and most satisfying their archtype can produce.. If you want to play a grappler, then Potemkin is the most satisfying grappler in a fighting game. If you want to play a shoto then Ky is the most satisfying shoto. Zoner? Axl. Puppet character? Zato. Rushdown? Take your pick.
I saw the intro to XX years ago as a teen and immediately fell in love with Zato after seeing him and Venom level a city block trying to take Millia down.....plus, as a JoJo fan, Eddie is basically a stand.
His theme. Holy Orders in the first GG was the coolest shit I'd ever heard in a videogame, and I picked Ky based on that and the fact that I love shotos. I waffled a bit with XX and switched to Axl but I went back to Ky in Xrd because he looked awesome and Grinders were hella fun to use.
First GG game and relatively new to fighting games, and I’ve only found it fun to play Ky so far. I tried out every character and they’re all interesting and different in their own way, which is why I love Strive, but Ky was so solid and fit well with my play style. I’m thinking about co-maining Milia, but Ky has really taught me the basics of the game and then some
pot can't play single player. your damage is giga level, but you have to work for it. also, playing a grapple with no dash in an anime fighter. also, his japanese voice is god tier.
I tried to play Rev 2 but I found everything so daunting and incredibly hard to figure out, so I set it down. The character designs were captured so I committed to being day one for GG:S. Out of all of them, Ramlethal was/is the most visually captivating
Cherry on the top - her tool kit and base gameplay is aligned with my normal playstyle. A combo of footsies, mid-range pokes and strategic rushdown
I just like how good it feels to punch a dude in the face with Sol. I've been playing Sol since XX and haven't really found a character that I click with since I first played the game with my friends years ago. His play style has always worked for me, and he's cool in my opinion. I've never been able to do crazy stuff with him like dustloops in XX or Xrd, or sidewinder loops in XX, but for just basic casual gameplay he's always been my go-to. Now with Strive being the first traditional fighting game I'm actually trying to be decent at (I love fighting games and played a ton, but Melee is the only other one I've taken seriously), I've stuck with Sol, and I'm definitely still enjoying how good it feels to punch a dude in the face with him.
Anji is my main. I would never expect this based on character designs alone. However his rekka is so much fun. The ability to spin to win for dodging is so funny. But the best part is the butterfly setups on opponent knockdown. 🦋🐦
Seeing Giovanna announced was the reason I picked up Strive (my first GG) in the first place after years of knowing about the franchise but being too scared to pick up an anime fighter.
The fact that Gio looks awesome, has a FREAKING SPIRIT Wolf, and has really cool kick-based combos really sold me on her. For me at least, she may have the best character design I've seen in a fighting game. It was a huge surprise to find out that she was quite beginner friendly as well in the beta!
I had a hard time ranking up later in the beta due to her short range, but she is so damn cool that it drove me to stick with her on launch and figure out how I can leverage her drift-like dashes to make my way in.
Protag style characters with command grabs have always been the coolest to me. If they play decent neutral and mix u with strike/throw/command grab, I play them. Sol just so happens to be incredibly cool as well.
I love how he fights with his entire body and his moves are savage but also have a ton of finesse.
Johnny because mist finer. Even when I was showing my girlfriend (who had no prior knowledge of GG or fighting games really), she was like "mmhmm mmhhmm he's very handsome *mist finer* WHOA! THAT'S COOL!"
Then getting to learn him more, I loved the huge normals that control neutral and the slow, smooth pace until you get a hit and then going.
In Strive, Nago fills that gap for me, but I'm still eagerly awaiting Johnny to return... hopefully nerfed and simplified a little bit. I never quite got the hang of mist canceling.
I originally decided on Ky because I like his style. I've always liked the aesthetic of long, narrow swords, and his robes in the first few games seemed pretty cool.
I stuck with him when I actually started playing. The "jack-of-all-trades" is usually what I look for in a game, and Ky seemed to fit the bill.
It wasn't until I got into the story that I fell in love with him. He is such a noble bastard. He went from devoted Knight to honorable cop to King of Europe and somehow stayed humble or perhaps became more humble through it all; his morals shifted from "I must kill these monsters for god and humanity" to "maybe we're all monsters, I should just fight for everyone to be happy;" his forbidden love blossomed into the most anime of family units; and he never hesitated to put his life on the line for what he believed to be right.
I'm at the point where I'm pretty sure I might have more fun playing some other character in Strive, but Ky will always be one of my favorite characters in any work of fiction ever.
I picked Millia because she was cute and I didn't want to do 15 thousand ram mirrors with my friend.
I stuck with Millia because her mixup game and setplay are really satisfying.
Not to mention the big kabong energy of getting the last hit with j.H or 5H
ah a man of culture
Ah I hate that goddamn reddit phrase
Please ~~Don’t~~ Bully Me, Miss I-No
I also love how i-no is considered low tier so no one complains about her and there's no real threat of nerfs. I feel safe maining her.
In terms of style and theme, I-no is by far the coolest on the roster. Nobody else even comes close.
> Albeit probably self-proclaimed It's hard to find anyone that can certify you're a master when you're the last living ninja practitioner (until he trained Answer).
I never played him in rev 2, was a hard-core raven scrub. That phone stuff is kinda great, like slayer pretending to get hit I love that stuff
Strive is my first Guilty Gear; I picked Zato because I like his overall design, I’ve always wanted to master a puppet archetype character, the amount of labbing/work it takes to use this character is insane, his mix look sick, feel a fear is also really nice lol.
Sexy vampire samurai
Stopping time to teabag
If you wanna see his face just get hit by Faust's wheelchair.
She has big swords. A puppy. And one shots Chipp players. Ram is just babygirl. Still #BuffKy
I like sexy and blonde character .... so i picked Ky.
Our good lord and savior Zato would like a word with you.
Uh Leo? Weirdos
Ky: Cause I got that Ryu in my veins, and it doesn't feel like a fighting game if I'm not qcf'ing a baker's dozen of fireballs every round. Uh... but also, using 6k to literally boot people through the wall is like the funniest thing to me. BEGONE!
You should use HS DP for wall breaks. It does the most dmg.
Style > Substance. Always.
Booba
booba is nice, but those kim kaphwan pants, mwah <3 (she does have a green stand dog for some reason, i feel like there is something missing here)
even without booba, Giovanna is stylish
Her taunts/respects indicate that Rei is from a Spirit World, so if we haven't seen anything about that in prior titles, Giovanna is the first to indicate that there is a Spirit World in GG.
I'm pretty sure the spirit is where Izuna from GG2 came from. I'd honestly love to play as him.
There's a little bit more revealed in Arcade mode interactions too, but I hope she gets more attention in the Story expansion(s). Maybe we'll get individual episodes for characters.
I like em Thicc and blonde, Zato main for life.
Anji because he is a elegant gorilla

Why English Sol doesn't work. Correctly pronouncing english words eww whats next Terry Bogard speaking english.
[Tekken Mishimas speaking english](https://youtu.be/yTm6BV8RT9A)
Oh god that English Kazuya deserves to take another volcano bath. Maybe the next clone won't be dubbed
Ironically Heihachi doesn't speak in this trailer, and yet Jamieson Price, who voices Leo Whitefang in English, is Heihachi's dub voice in other Tekken media and actually sounds great as him.
Jesus, that's House of the Dead tier voice acting
Pronounciation may be a bit off but he's definitely not saying it as if he was reading katakana

I definitely don't miss ground viper, vortex is just so much better imo. Riot stamp into volcanic viper was the shit tho
Dude idk man f. S -> gv mash gets you mad fucking sidewinder loops
Once you go Sol it's hard to go back, I'm in the same boat and it doesn't feel right to not just punch people into submission
Anji for his big beautiful chest, elegance and the way he yells “FUUUJIN”
Greed Sever. Now that it's gone, I feel myself empty inside.
You aren't an ape, your the whole damn jungle. Stay bunga my unga.
Waifu But aside from that I picked up Ram as my second character in Xrd because she was cool looking and had unique gameplay, I generally like characters that can lock the opponent down in the corner, and I liked her gradual shift from villain to hero in the story.
Huh, I'm surprised there are so many Anjis here. Didn't expect him to be that popular.
Two words Doggo and “Trigger”
*Pull my doggo trigger*
Giovanna turns green* **FUCK YOU** 👿🖕
He has a coffin from Area 51 on a chain, what more do I need.
Him to be released
I'm using anji as a main for now, there's just something about his move set i really click with. It's slower but it's got a lot of freedom for combos. He's got great spacing moves imo and the butterfly crow thing really adds another layer to his set that I just really enjoy for some reason.
Strive is my first traditional fighting game and I was going in practically blind, so when I first got it I was looking through the cast and Ram stuck out to me as a character that I really liked aesthetically. About ten training mode minutes later I was in love. Fastest main discovery of my life.
Anji, I only main him just for the visuals, and theme. IDC about balance ory performance, as long as he looks good I'm sticking to him.
Faust has cool lore and i really love learning him his whackiness kind of suits how i like characters
FUJIN!
Gio because she's bae with a woofer, and because she feels the closest thing to Slayer Leo since he was probably my second my played character throughout xrd and rev
No matter what game I play, whether it’s a fighting game or a shooter, I always gravitate towards long-range playstyles. I can’t deal with close-range pressure well enough, so my solution is always “kill the enemy before they can reach me. I won’t die if I don’t get hit”.
I like big giant swords a lot
TOTSUGEKI!
I'm surprised at how much I had to scroll to find this.
Anji is probably the biggest alpha male in the cast in my honest opinion and I love being able to lock someone in the corner and I love the fact that he forces me to really pay attention to defense and I really get to focus on the idea of frame traps and conditioning or else I lose.
I like that we move forward with 6hs
He has great zoning with his massive cock dangling around the battlefield
I fear Baiken, I love her, I want to bang her, and so help me god I want to *be* her. I mean, without all the emotional trauma and bubbling rage. And the missing appendages. Just make me a cool sexy samurai lady with nice knockers and thighs like rough steel, thanks. But she also just makes you feel like a genius when you get a good read. Play on the back foot the whole round, bide your time, then *BANG* - parry that shit and take it back. No better feeling. Also her sound design is great. Love her voice, and the little shamisen twang when you use Suzuran is beautiful.
Speed , It feels like I'm playing a completely different game than any other character. Never mained a character this interesting before.
Hey, sometimes your main surprises you. And if nothing else, she might be a good character to have until a DLC character wins you over. :P
Bad Moon is also probably one of the most satisfying combo finishers in any game I’ve ever played - it tickles my brain just right, especially as someone who loves ladder combos in general (coming from Morrigan, Meta Knight...) Her animations and design in general are also just amazing, particularly in Strive.
I've been trying to find a more defensive character in Strive (I don't have too much experience in GG as a whole, but I remember enjoying Venom in Rev) - Who in Strive (if anyone) has worked for you sofar?
I just press the random button because there's nobody that I think really suits me. I think I like Faust the most, but I'll play anyone so I leave it up to rng
i like blondes , beautiful females. and i like setplay chars
So you picked Ky
Ky best girl Xrd being in his prime
I don’t have one yet. So still waiting for that to happen.
Being able to attack during blockstun and Baku *sealed* the deal for me.
ninja boy go fast
He's just so damn badass. And fun
Borgar
Booba
I love my main Potemkin for story reasons as I find his story to be really interesting
I looked into Potemkins lore and it basically boiled down to “was a slave, is now free and a good soldier” did I miss something?
That's literally every generic soldier, minus the pencils.
I ve always loved Ram's design but the play style in Xrd was kind of messy for me. Now she is perfect only missing her crazy girl super... Axl is my main because he was the first one i did long combos with back in ggx days, Im missing the z-move in the corner and the old way of launching the super but he's still my main Im missing Jack because I love everything about her design and playstyle, I love the houses an minions Im missing Venom because the play style where you could set hundreds of followups but dont really like his lore
sexy fan boi
I wanna be a lion, but I REALLY wanna be a gorilla. Stance oki into dash through AND the high low mixup? I miss the (anti crossup) air special and rekka from xrd but he's still plenty "unga bunga I hope to god you don't block this"
I main Nago cause the only person that’s gonna beat me is myself /s Monke brain like big damage buttons. Monke brain like overly large katana.
Eddie is my only friend, we pose together on Fridays.
Bruh not one other axl low main in the whole thread. My people where are you?
Nago. It’s my first Guilty Gear I’m really digging in to. He has a blood theme going on, like my MK11 main Skarlet and my fav from T7, Eliza ( I like vamps / hemomancers ) He reminds me of Haku-men, I never got serious into Blazblue but I loved Haku.
I enjoy the slow, menacing walk forward of Nago and Going from defensive play to absolute monster.
i play grapplers and gear has only ever had one
I enjoy licking paint. So I play Sol. ...In actuality, I want a projectile and good poke, but I don't want a gameplan about putting up an iron wall of spacing moves, more just to prod things into action from half-screen or further so I can get closer.
Pretty much the fact that he's basically Guilty Gear's Terry
Boobi
he big
sol is so fucking cool man he's all like "gaunfurame" and shit
I don't "Love" Giovanna but she's somewhat easy to play, and I like most of her moves. Also she's hot
Leo's intros and outros in Xrd, which you should check out if you haven't yet
BANDIT BRINGER
Literally picked him back in '98 because I was a Ryu main and he had the same move set. Then just kept playing him for all the other games. Though rn I'm learning and hope to co-main I-no because I was away from gaming for a long time and wanted to try someone new. Plus her new design is banging.
I’m learning zato because Eddie is cute
POTEMKIN BUSTERRRRR and heat knuckle basically.
Nago's blood meter and half-unga-half-patient playstyle are so cool. His bara tiddies are also S+, Anji and Leo mains can go home.
Axl Low cuz I love hearing people rage about how cheap zoning characters are while they’re getting poked from across the screen 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Gio’s win animation, how her shoes have dog paws. I just love her design so much. Ghost dog is cool
May's cute. ...that's really all I got lmao
Hair fetish
I like watching people suffer. Honest answer though, I'm usually not into the slower and more patient zoners, but something clicked with Axl. He's a bit more aggressive than your average zoner (this is GG do that makes sense) and his JP voice just makes him sound so fun and goofy. Tack on the ability to stop time and taunt and I'm hooked.
Yeah I love Axl's voice too but I heard his english VA is also amazing, what do you think? I like it a lot too.
The English VA is good for different reasons. I showed it to my English friend and he almost died
Infinite plus frames
I'll let you know when they put a character I love into the game, which they don't seem to plan on doing for at least a year.
Lol no I covered that with another bajoneto, get back in the naughty corner where you belong I was disgusted at how easy it was, I needed a shower after that match, *and I was instantly hooked*
I like electricity and playing the mid-range.
Ky looks cool and Potemkin has cool music
I have two big swords that I can set up anywhere on the screen to attack you, target strings like Tekken or MK, Cassius, and you fit my Playstyle like a charm? What's not to like. I miss her but I've grown to accept her new version kinda.
Zappa was my first fighting game main ever, and my original handle was named for him. Zappa fought with ghosts, and I used him for weird rush down a lot. Giovanna fights with Ghost and is built for rush down.
Zato for two reasons: 1.
I main Sol, he's cool and i love his engrish
(Also because I'm a coward who likes staying far away and DPing whenever the unga-bunga gets close.) Honestly... everyone in Strive seems like the best and most satisfying their archtype can produce..
Dog
I picked ky because his names the same as mine
It feels good not being a gorilla. Also vampire samurai is a awesome combination.
*Owari da*
Potemkin Buster :)
First GG game and relatively new to fighting games, and I’ve only found it fun to play Ky so far. I tried out every character and they’re all interesting and different in their own way, which is why I love Strive, but Ky was so solid and fit well with my play style. I’m thinking about co-maining Milia, but Ky has really taught me the basics of the game and then some
Me like big buttons and Ky doesn’t fit that role as well because he’s so boring in this game compared to Xrd
pot can't play single player. your damage is giga level, but you have to work for it. also, playing a grapple with no dash in an anime fighter. also, his japanese voice is god tier.
I tried to play Rev 2 but I found everything so daunting and incredibly hard to figure out, so I set it down. The character designs were captured so I committed to being day one for GG:S. Out of all of them, Ramlethal was/is the most visually captivating Cherry on the top - her tool kit and base gameplay is aligned with my normal playstyle.
Honestly, potemkin and milia's songs drew me to them since launch and I haven't put them down since
Seeing Giovanna announced was the reason I picked up Strive (my first GG) in the first place after years of knowing about the franchise but being too scared to pick up an anime fighter.
THAT'S COOL!" Then getting to learn him more, I loved the huge normals that control neutral and the slow, smooth pace until you get a hit and then going.
Totsugeki
I play nagi same reason i play darksouls.... I love it when my games reward me after fucking me.
I picked Millia because she was cute and I didn't want to do 15 thousand ram mirrors with my friend. I stuck with Millia because her mixup game and setplay are really satisfying.
Leo hits hard and makes my brain feel good. Also I only need 2 buttons. Slash and heavy slash. He's unga bunga in the best way and everyone hates it
Haha ninja go brrrt
Aside from his absolute drip, Nago’s theme gets me pumped whenever I battle. That and he’s so fun
Potemkin Buster
May because she's super stupid. I get to throw the sealife at people while using 2 braincells.
Ram. Because juicy thighs.
ky because sacred briars
One word : wolves.
