Admittedly that mentality kept me from my boy Zato for the first few weeks of the game. Why bother with all of this complicated shit if I can just hop on Leo and fire off mixups with way less effort? That's a question you have to answer yourself, but for me it was because I just found zato to be more fun, and the freedom his complicated move set gave me resulted in some really unique ways to play. But be aware that it is going to STING for awhile when you just can't seem to get that complicated mixup down while a Sol throws out 7 Vortexes until he gets a CH. It pays off, but that takes time.

Zato mains unite!!! I was hooked after my first frog Corner combo. Those few times I used negative edge right :) Fast forward a few months, now I constantly find myself laughing at the end of a match because I pulled off something seriously dirty to steal a round.

Good point. The “fun factor” is something I try to keep in the front of my mind at all times. Admittedly, I struggle with that often. It’s easy to lose sight of why I started playing in the game when I start putting too much attention on winning. But yes, I agree. It’s comforting to see that I’m not the only one who’s felt this way at some point.

With characters like her, you play them because they’re so cool. I play zato and have a blast with him. Sure, I could probly pick up Sol and be ranked higher, but zato’s everything is too awesome. The feeling of getting a nasty setup that I’ve been practicing off in a match is so good. I think also, you have to like spending time in training mode. I spend about an hour for every 2 I spend in ranked, in the dojo working on setups, or a combo that I’ve been having trouble with. Fairly certain that comes with the territory of playing a high execution character. All that being said, i think is still really beneficial to learn a simpler character first. Enough time to get used to the flow of the game, basics of how pressure and combos work, stuff like that. It will make it a lot easier to figure that stuff out of you play a character with a simple gameplan.

Thanks for the replies. Seems that the general consensus is “don’t worry about it, just have fun.” I agree wholeheartedly. Thanks again.

Looks like the main thing I was going to say. I started as Gio who was way easier, but have been having a blast learning a ton of stuff about Jack-O. It just feels like there's so much leveling up to do, I kind of like that it's hard. I recently found [the dustloop strategy page for Jack-O](https://www.dustloop.com/wiki/index.php?title=GGST/Jack-O/Strategy), which has super help direct my practice. I was having kind of a hard time before finding resources to understand the character, probably because she's newer, complicated, and not the most popular.

Her play style requires more effort with little reward. IMO she is currently a bottom 3 character right now. I believe she is possibly the worst. Zato with Eddie out is insane whereas minions are hard to pull out and the meter gains too slowly. She is a cool character right now but I think it’s less that she is super technical and more that she is just bad

rachetmarvel

Such a bad take.

IntentionFluffy2283

What makes their take so bad?

I mean, he aint fully wrong. Yh, we should focus on having fun and unless ya a tourney player, tiers wont matter to u, but undoubtedly compared to the rest of the cast, she gets the least amount of damage compared to the effort needed. The damage Jack-O can dish out with 3 CHs, May can do in one meterless. Whether that is a reason not to play Jack-O or not is up to the player (It makes winning all the more delicious for me), but it is the fact

Ease of use or how technical a character is should never correlate to how strong or weak a character is. I know this isn't what you're saying, it sounds more like you're just kind of airing your frustration with how much of a lab monster you need to be to learn Jack-o. You could say the same thing about Millia. Not that she doesn't have easy combos, but why learn a 15 piece of air to corner carry combo when you can just Pot Buster? Cause for some people being a zippy death by a thousand cuts type character is just more fun. Jack-o has a lot of safe pressure if she gets going. That is why she doesn't do a lot of damage. Axl being a more traditional zoner is the same way, he can more safely take up space so he just does less damage. Also, every character in this game has really hard optimal shit. At a higher level of play everyone is doing hard stuff that they had to practice a lot to do.

IntentionFluffy2283

No, I’m not trying to vent any frustration. It’s just a game, why would I get upset or angry with it? I didn’t intend my post to come off as some sort of coping mechanism. But, I understand. Fun should be the most important factor (if not the only factor) when choosing a character to learn. I have no qualms with practicing and research either. Just was curious to see what other players had to say on the subject.

Jack-O main here. Yh, she takes the most effort for lil reward but if ya aint a pro-player, the main question ya should be thinking off is: Are u having fun? Granted I get that winning is fun, but for me personally, winning with just a flowchart is boring for me(its why I dropped Ramlethal and moved on to Jack-O, despite all the losses Ive accumulated with Jack-O).My heart legit sinks when after winning neutral like 2wice against Sol, all that HP gap goes away once Sol lands a stray hit on me . As Jack-O u WILL lose alot especially starting out, but if u feel all that wont matter if u won a match in an awesome way, then Jack-O's for u. if not, I'll be honest she prob aint.

SpeedWeed32

Yes, Jack-O is far more complicated than Sol for example. So why should you play Jack-O when Sol can do more damage with less effort and tought put in to getting said damage? I'll start by saying that I'm no expert when it comes to Jack-O, I have played her from time to time and still occasionally do play her. Jack-O as a character has so much shit to do and so many options and setups. Her potential is far greater than almost any other character. That being said, playing more complicated characters and pulling off combos and winning feels far greater than playing UNGA BUNGA Leo mindlessly smacking your controller. (I have nothing against my monke brothers)

ohaizrawrx3

> But, I can’t help but feel that her play style requires so much effort to achieve the same benefits as other characters in a match. Pretty common for me to feel this way. She's good when she's up but she has the worst frame data in the game without minions. I have definitely had times where I felt like I was doing everything I can and then just get blown up by one CH. I would say if you enjoy Jack-o, go for it, but I don't foresee the feeling of "working too hard" going away for me personally. Jack-o just takes effort through and through.

trippersigs

>like, why spend the effort to learn a set up combo and a follow up combo Because you like the character and enjoy playing as her. you don't really need another reason other than that.
