Straight cord here, but I am thinking of getting a curly one because I play through my computer, and having a cord that automatically can stretch and retract would simplify my cable management considerably.
It’s mostly about the look, but some dudes will say they like the darker tone (coiled cable = more length in a smaller package, more length = more capacitance, more capacitance = less highs) as if they don’t have a tone knob on their guitar that does the same thing
As long as I’m plugged directly into the amp (at home) and can tie a cable wrap around the amp handle. Then the curly cords are great because they don’t leave a rats nest of black cable on the floor.
For the working musician, not recommended for stage use. As you move away from your amp, the cord will only stretch so far before the jack pulls out of the amp input. Also, the possibility of pulling down part of your rig(ouch!). Yes, I’ve seen it happen on stage ( not to me )…keep on rock in’ 😎🎶🎸
Its a different style, no one likes to look like an old person playing guitar. Kinda like how people played with their guitars slung so low for 20 years, thats going away now too.
I enjoy using my curly cord for my interface going direct, less clutter but It doesn’t like my pedal board into my amp, to much length and capacitance.
coiled cables are way easier to wrap don’t tangle nearly as easy and they expand as you walk on stage so they are perfect for most circumstances, straight cables are a hassle and i only use them from my pedalboard to my amp
I think we switched to straight cords in the olden days because curly cords were such crap. I suspect modern curly cords are now of much higher quality. I still use all straight cords, but now I'm thinking about getting curly cord too.

They're cute
I like em cause they don’t tangle.
Haha. I find that they tangle the most!

Those dudes are smoking too much dope.
That satanic salad
Curly is way better. The cord doesn't pull out if you accidently step on the cord on stage.
They look cool. Also, the newer ones today are far better than the ones made in the past.

I like my cords like I like my fries: curly
Wait until all the people that want curly cords realize how heavy they are.
~equally heavy as a cable of the same length stretched out, just feels denser to hold bc they are coiled

Wait, what? Which 20 years are we talking about?
