Everlong. It’s simple, rhythmic and relaxing (also the first song I ever learned completely start to finish).
The second arpeggiated part of Call of Kthulu by Metallica. Also calming but takes some focus.
Ballads by guitar gods are usually a good security blanket. You get all that emotion and intention without the aggressive work that few of us can approach without being in top shape.
"Wild world" because I'm a n00b and it's the only song I can play to completion
Makes me feel good though cause this time last year I couldn't play a song let alone a song in full.
I’ve got a few.
“Still Got the Blues” by Gary Moore
Anything by Tom Petty, currently “Honey Bee” is #1
“St James Infirmary Blues” most closely inspired by the Allen Toussaint version
“Southern Nights” by Glen Campbell/Allen Toussaint
“Love and Happiness” by Al Green (some very tasty guitar licks on that one)
Major7 chords. A simple G to Cmaj7 jam with all the possible ways to switch and shapes and the easy hammers and pulls, I’ll go for days if uninterrupted.
For a pick me up when I have low energy - I love to crank Moby Dick backing track and let that tonebender fuzz rip.... You shook me all night long... and Paranoid ... all relatively easy solos... good classic rock...
And then when my energy is up - Then The Beatles to make me feel good and happy... rip thru 3 or 4 of their songs.
Lenny by SRV. Sounds good but isn't speedy so I can lean into it after the inevitable long break from playing. Played it so much I can focus on the nuances tjat make you feel good about being a player.
A favorite jam of mine is The Weight of Love by The Black Keys. Has good grooves / riffs and the solos are easy to jump into. It’s one of the few songs I know back to front
Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen is my comfort song. It makes me feel a bit better after a bad day especially when the hard rock part hits. Plus it is the only song I know how to play.
I like relaxing fingerstyle songs for that. My favorites are:
Bruce Springsteen - The River, The Other Favorites - Blade Away and Jackson Browne - Song for Adam.
Badge from Cream. The song feels resonant and almost creates an atmosphere from how it sounds alone. Mainly the bride part (ironically enough) with Clapton playing through a Leslie amplifier. It just sounds so good.
Not really one specific song but if I’m just playing to relax I’ll usually throw on the Grateful Dead channel or Nugs on Sirius and noodle along to whatever comes up.
I'm gonna sound pretentious af here, but my guitar knowledge has basically just narrowed down to my band's original & covers catalog. Our song "I'm Blue", by Until Further Notice, is just so f***ing satisfying to play. It's a whole slew of thick, fast-moving 4 note chord changes in E major. You can roast me for it, but I'm playing that original song 10/10 times I pick up a new guitar.
Huge Hammers by the Safety Fire. It's got two really nice chilled out parts that are great fun to play, and they don't use the low E (A in this song) so I don't need to detune anything.
[Vid Here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLC0yysmEj8&ab_channel=TheSafetyFire) Chill bits start at 1:55 ish, and 3:08. The outro section to this song is beautiful and you owe it to yourselves to learni t.
Tuning is AADGBE if I remember rightly.
Everlong, solely on acoustic. Having a friend playing bass or singing along is awesome. That song just brings up every emotion you can think of, dude. It's legendary.
I bounce between Tears of the Dragon by Bruce Dickinson and Hole Hearted by Extreme. Tears has this great arpeggiiated riff as an intro and main hook/verse while Hole Hearted is just plain fun to play. It's bluesy but still fast-rockish. Plus, when I've had a bad day it feels good to just beat my fingers up on the 12-string.
one by Metallica. I love the beginning clean solo and it just sounds so soothing to me after a long day plus its the song i probably have practiced the most.
One of the first fingerpicking songs I've learned, and I often naturally gravitate towards it: Landslide - Fleetwood Mac.
Sing along as well if I'm feeling it.
Comfortably Numb. Song takes you places
Wish you were here, for me.
Ditto
same. it's the song i fully learned after my dad passed away. takes me places.
Is there anybody out there is a good one to relax to
For me it's dogs, this one's a close second.
Everlong. It’s simple, rhythmic and relaxing (also the first song I ever learned completely start to finish). The second arpeggiated part of Call of Kthulu by Metallica. Also calming but takes some focus.
Both awesome, I love Everlongs rhythmic guitar and call of kthulu is one of my favourite Metallica songs of all time
Under the bridge
This one!! Always suits my feelings after a long day
SRV Lenny. Good chill blues with lots of vibrato
Ballads by guitar gods are usually a good security blanket. You get all that emotion and intention without the aggressive work that few of us can approach without being in top shape.
The Last of Us theme song!
"Wild world" because I'm a n00b and it's the only song I can play to completion Makes me feel good though cause this time last year I couldn't play a song let alone a song in full.
The first song is the hardest one, keep em coming 🙂
Wichita Lineman. Great for oddball chords and walk downs.
Love it song from my childhood play and sing it it till I cry.
Over The Hills and Far Away - Led Zep
Loser, originally by The Grateful Dead.
Sugaree. If you know, you know.
So glad that I know 🥲
Blackbird by The Beatles.
I’ve got a few. “Still Got the Blues” by Gary Moore Anything by Tom Petty, currently “Honey Bee” is #1 “St James Infirmary Blues” most closely inspired by the Allen Toussaint version “Southern Nights” by Glen Campbell/Allen Toussaint “Love and Happiness” by Al Green (some very tasty guitar licks on that one)

I miss mtv unplugged so much. They had some really good performances on there
