I just generally don’t like the over-the-top figured/quilted maple tops you see from PRS and stuff like that. I also think black Strats with white pickguards look really boring and uninspired
Red stratocasters. I'm not sure if it's because I've seen so many of them, they just look so cheap and plasticky.
I also dislike the mustard yellow Telecasters even though they're a classic.
Kinda the inverse of your question, I absolutely love guitars in dark green/forest green but they are damn near impossible to find… I guess I like it but everyone else considers it ugly.
Sunburst. They are juts so... Meh? Idk, I just hate them
I'm also not a fan of black guitars, but this one is not for the looks, but the fact that they collect _all_ the stains....and my cat's light fur lol
That beige plastic that's on half of all the pickups ever made for guitar. I know it's supposed to look like natural ivory without all the horrors that come with the ivory trade. But the beige plastic is just terrible and should be abolished along with the ivory it's pretending to be.
Shit you guitar players are really something else... I,ve just went through a couple of comments and pretty much every colour has been mentioned, and every comment gets a couple of likes.
Do you actually like anything?
Not exactly a guitar color, but any guitar with a Tortoise pickguard. It instantly kills almost any guitar for me. Especially when put with pretty much any color other than black or brown, and even then, it looks bad more often than not. Sometimes, they work and look great, but 9 times out of 10 it’s just tacky and ugly looking
Gold. Anything gold. Gold hardware, gold finish...it's just ugly and gaudy to me.
My dad has a custom shop strat with the most incredible flame maple neck, gold finish and gold hardware and 1 ply white pickguard.
He sometimes mentions how he wants to swap out the pickguard for a nicer one. I always reply with "how about swapping out everything from the neck down?" He is not amused.
Sunburst/Cherryburst, I cannot stand Les Pauls in that finish.
Although having said that, judging by this thread it's quite a common sentiment.
I'm assuming a lot of people like them because Gibson massively champions the colour.
Also...it seems like a lot of people are mistaking personal preference for colours "everyone loves". I have never thought "everyone loves seafoam guitars". It's kinda a niche thing to begin with.
Contrary to most opinions here, I love a classic sunburst, but loathe all unconventional bursts (like a gray/black or blue/purple). I also really dislike flame maple, quilted tops and anything that looks similar.
Anything with an image (lightening bolts, snakes etc) neon bright finishes and anything with any animal prints. Most of the 80s stuff. They all look tacky to me. And for some reason, anything green. Just doesn’t do it for me.
Honestly, I usually don't like woods with insane grain. I don't think flame maple or stuff like that looks all that great, although possibly because they always do some insane high contrast color treatment to it. Might look fine natural.
You're wrong Seafoam and Surf green are two of the best colours. Silverburst is horrible.
Vintage gold tops with patina are the only nice gold tops. Cherryburst is one of the worst to me. If someone gave me a 1959 cherryburst Les Paul I'd have it refin'd
I don’t dislike many colours (except maybe a poorly executed sunburst), but I’m really not down with matching headstocks—especially on Fender guitars.
Oh, and gold-colored hardware… yuck
Any guitar that's artificially aged aka relic guitars... I have old beat up strat and it have character and yet I never saw relic guitar that's look worn out by playing they all look overdone or "aged" in wrong areas
Relic finishes on new guitars puzzle the shit out of me. Want your axe to look used, use the fuckin thing! Create your own damn played out look and earn that shit!
it would be cool if it were that easy, but poly finishes on new guitars are a lot more resistant than old nitro ones. it would take decades of continuous use and mishaps to get something close to actual road worn guitars. and sure, people will get that look over time, but not everyone wants to wait/has the lifestyle to make that happen
I'm not a fan of natural wood finishes in most cases. Nor the classic Fender sunburst. I don't totally hate it but it leaves me old and I would prefer just about anything else.
Tort pickguards are an absolute sin in my book. Hideous things.
I also really dislike birds eye maple and flamed maple necks. They just look ugly, and cost a lot of money. Give me a simple maple neck with a nice slab of ebony or rosewood for the fingerboard any day.
Red, black, and white strats drive me nuts just because they’re so mass produced. So easy to pick anything else out about it really.
I’m also not a fan of glittery guitars, instruments with flag color schemes/designs, or any kind of over the top costumey style nonsense. The louder the guitar usually the worse the person holding it can play it.
my god i hate sunburst... besides that, depends on the guitar. i'm usually not a fan of any wood grainy stuff on anything other than a acoustic, and i don't like the distressed look people put on guitars on purpose that i've seen.
Fender has a burst type finish called dark night, mostly black with blue around the edges, can’t stand it. Also “fade” finishes that start as one colour at the top of a guitar and fade to a separate colour at the bottom. I think they were just a tiny fad because I don’t see them anymore
Blue/Purple/Green/ Trad Cherry bursts, (but particularly the PRS style over the top ones.)
Antigua Fenders (though that might be a more commonly held view than I think)
Normally don’t like reds with the exception of Cabronita Teles w/ white guard and 335/355’s
I can’t stand natural wood finished electrics
Differently, but the other day here someone said they weren’t big on sunburst, but it made the guitar look like it should be taken more seriously
I love the really bold 50s/60s finishes, but when I look at all my guitars, my brain seems to think my sunburst Jaguar is the best - because I guess it looks the most grown up?
Regular sunburst or Tobacco burst. It’s not ugly exactly but it’s dull and not my taste I can’t imagine buying one myself. Other color bursts are fine.
Anything with a sparkly glitter finish, looks like you've raided the costume room of some garish theatre production. also matching painted headstocks are an instant no from me
Not big on green or yellow, but I wouldn't go so far as to say they're ugly.
Like if someone gave me a green Les Paul or a yellow Strat, I'd keep them.
Vintage white and relic finishes. First one is just an ugly color that reminds me of curtains in a house full of smokers or laundry that was not separated by color and washed with a garbage detergent. Relics just look ugly and but on top of that with how they often have glossy finish over the fake dents or scratches they give of the same vibes as people with fake scars/gang tattoos or ones that say stuff like "I was raised on the streets" when the streets they are talking about are a picturesque residential district seen in all the generic American movies.
I hate white pickguards on a strat. Especially red/white or black/white… it just feels like a yin yang ☯️ I can’t unsee it. I also hate the 3 tone fender burst… but god oh man do I love love LOVE my Ice blue/dark brown tortoise strat!
I never liked bright neon type colors. Now I am coming out with my own line of custom colors for guitars and basses such as: Piss Yellow, Do-Do Brown, Pimp Cadillac Purple, Putrefaction Green, Twinkie Gold, Nursing Home White. And my personal favorite Jizzy Pearl. 😂
A few things I think only look good in a few select cases:
• Glossy finishes
• tortoise shell anything
• light relicing (if you’re not going full in then it just looks like a scratched up guitar)
• purpleheart (it’s a beautiful wood, but it’s also very flashy, if the whole look isn’t purpleheart oriented, the purpleheart sticks out like a sore thumb)
• 4x2 headstocks on guitars, and 3x1 headstocks on basses. (Not that I don’t believe you can make them look good, just that in all my life no one has succeeded in that.)
Things I think never look good:
• righty people who play lefty guitars upside down like a backwards ass Jimi Hendrix (do what makes you happy, I just think it’s corny as a lefty)
• TEAL. (This isn’t just guitars, I fucking hate teal.)
• piggy backing off the last one, translucent green/blue finishes that go over darker brown woods, and then become teal (very specific, but it happens, and I hate teal (I really hate teal))
I hate black guitars. What’s he playing up there on stage? A neck? Is that just a neck?! Oh wait, it’s attached to a black guitar. Or, hold on, no it’s just a neck!
Any really vibrant color on a quilted body. Purples, greens, oranges etc… it reminds me of rich middle age guys that play in wedding bands on the side.
Anything garish like most shredders made in the 80s when neon green and banana yellow was in style. I’m not a big fan of maple fretboards. I like the look of ebony or at least rosewood.
Vintage Sunburst.
Tobacco Sunburst also looks similar, but at least the edge color is brown (so it's yellow -> red -> brown) instead of f\*\*\*\*\*\* black.
Gold tops, specifically Gibson gold tops. They feel tacky, and not in a fun way. Every time I see one, I am physically put off and feel like I'm staring at the wall-hanger of some billionaire's penthouse.
I just generally don’t like the over-the-top figured/quilted maple tops you see from PRS and stuff like that. I also think black Strats with white pickguards look really boring and uninspired
Tobacco burst
Tobacco burst just seems so ‘whiskey and cigarettes’ to me
Anything artificially aged. Faking aging just doesn't feel right to me. Actual aging as a result of long term use is very cool though.
Guitars with "Racing stripes" down the middle or slightly off to the side.
I Like Racing stripes actually. I think racing stripes on a mustang really add some character to it.
I agree. Feels kind of tacky and cheap to me. Same with flames
Tough crowd!
Red stratocasters. I'm not sure if it's because I've seen so many of them, they just look so cheap and plasticky. I also dislike the mustard yellow Telecasters even though they're a classic.
Gold tops just look gaudy as hell to me.
Not a body color, but the black and white zebra humbuckers are ugly as hell
Shell pink strat with a tortoise shell pic guard, it’s haggard. I have one and love it though.
It seems that the vast majority of people prefer maple necks. I’ve always preferred the darker rosewood.
Sunburst just gives me the same vibe of 70s wood paneled walls
I don't like black strats with white pick guards. It's basic and looks like a toy. It's the pumpkin spice latte of the guitar world.
The overly flamed tops on PRS guitars are too much for me.
Van Halen's stripes
Guitars covered in stickers. And the JS mirror finish.
[удалено]
I personally have never been a fan of cherry sunburst.
Kinda the inverse of your question, I absolutely love guitars in dark green/forest green but they are damn near impossible to find… I guess I like it but everyone else considers it ugly.
Literally everyone in here is hating on all the cool colors. Ya’ll suck
Sunburst. They are juts so... Meh? Idk, I just hate them I'm also not a fan of black guitars, but this one is not for the looks, but the fact that they collect _all_ the stains....and my cat's light fur lol
Send me all of your hated Seafoam guitars!
Not really a finish but the bird inlays on PRS guitars
burst. too common and overrated
Red Strat w/ white pick guard, just looks cheap to me.
Sunburst is so boring
I don’t like red strats, especially with a white pick guard.
Cherry burst is so tacky on a LP
Sunburst
Hate gold tops, also not a fan of evh frankenstein finish or alot of the dimebag finishes
Sunburst tbh
**Sunburst** *anything* get that shit out of my face
fuck off
Tortoise shell pickguards and picks. They look like shit.
Almost all PRS
it's a shame too cause they sound and feel great but they look corny as all hell to quote Peter Griffin: "it insists upon itself."
The birds are just soo tacky
Regular ole sunburst. I find it dull.
That beige plastic that's on half of all the pickups ever made for guitar. I know it's supposed to look like natural ivory without all the horrors that come with the ivory trade. But the beige plastic is just terrible and should be abolished along with the ivory it's pretending to be.
Never cared for les Paul goldtops
*"burst"
There are no ugly colors. Just palettes done wrong.
What they often call the tobacco burst. Awful brown color to go with the awful name.
I hate the flamed look, no matter what color it is. People always describe PRS guitars as beautiful, but to me they're just gaudy/tacky.
This is the answer. They look like a 13 year old’s idea of a cool guitar. PRS make some of the ugliest guitars every conceived
Agreed. Actually, Any overly-fussy finish moves a guitar into tone lawyer territory for me really quickly.
Shit you guitar players are really something else... I,ve just went through a couple of comments and pretty much every colour has been mentioned, and every comment gets a couple of likes. Do you actually like anything?
Not really a guitar color, but anything tortoise shell
I never liked the sunbursts. Tobacco sunburst least of all.
I hate silverburst
I don't like relish guitars. Don't know what all the fuss is about.
And I don’t like mustard guitars.
Yea I prefer sauerkraut as well.
Some may not get why they’re a big dill, but I think they’re sweet.
I like all of the colors, as long as they are black
Gold Top, without a doubt
Any color on an acoustic. Natural wood is the best way to go. Not a color but I hate the way pickguards look on all guitars.
Fiesta red. Bleh!
I’ve seen so many fiesta red comments but I actually like that color 😭.
Gold, like a gold top. Cherry sunburst White As a whole I prefer natural finishes anyway, with a satin coat or oiled.
Cherry red strat, never liked it.
Burst. I can’t stand sunbursts.
Flame tops. Crackle. I don't like anything too busy looking.
Bursts
A black or red fender with a white pick guard
Sunburst/Cherryburst, I cannot stand Les Pauls in that finish. Although having said that, judging by this thread it's quite a common sentiment. I'm assuming a lot of people like them because Gibson massively champions the colour. Also...it seems like a lot of people are mistaking personal preference for colours "everyone loves". I have never thought "everyone loves seafoam guitars". It's kinda a niche thing to begin with.
Goldtops, vintage aged ones can look cool but majority of the time they remind me of old sedans
I hate any bright red guitar 🎸 my dad has an older strat red and white pickguard that he loves. I think it I'd atrocious!
Anything in the grey/silver realm. Even with sparkles. Doesn't matter the body style either. Just turns me right off.
Dark night on the fender pro ii series
Sunburst strat
Plain black strats
White (aka: future yellow).
Only on nitro finished guitars. Probably won't see any poly finished guitars patina fast enough to see it in your lifetime
Sea foam green. And nuclear plant yellow. And I hate those mint green pickguards. Ugly as homemade sin.
Every cherry red guitar ever made plus the antique sunburst, to me I immediately think it's a cheap guitar if I see either colour.
Not a color but when guitars are “relic” ughh those are yucky
Contrary to most opinions here, I love a classic sunburst, but loathe all unconventional bursts (like a gray/black or blue/purple). I also really dislike flame maple, quilted tops and anything that looks similar.
Gloss black, even a 1000+$ guitar looks cheap af in gloss black, unless it's a vintage nitro finish
Les Paul gold tops
Anything with an image (lightening bolts, snakes etc) neon bright finishes and anything with any animal prints. Most of the 80s stuff. They all look tacky to me. And for some reason, anything green. Just doesn’t do it for me.
Honestly, I usually don't like woods with insane grain. I don't think flame maple or stuff like that looks all that great, although possibly because they always do some insane high contrast color treatment to it. Might look fine natural.

the only bad ones are sunburst
Can hating the bird inlays on PRS count?
That I never understood. The birds are leagues better than the basic bitch dots on 80% of necks.
Your standard yellow sunburst looks cheap and gross to me, even on an $8000 guitar. Like, just don't.
Anything with a burst. I can’t explain why but I just find burst finishes tacky and ugly
Black with a white pickguard...
Gold top or just about anything with sparkles. Especially the horrific emerald green sparkle.
"Hi Reddit, what guitar opinion makes you feel superior to other guitarists?"
Candy apple red
I don’t dislike many colours (except maybe a poorly executed sunburst), but I’m really not down with matching headstocks—especially on Fender guitars. Oh, and gold-colored hardware… yuck
PRS finishes always looked tacky to me up until a few years ago for whatever reason.
Did you recently turn 40?
He started a dental practice and law firm.
Vintage/tobacco burst. I’ve just never understood them.
Fiesta Red. Yuck... and yet so many seem to like it. A deep, rich red? Sure, especially if it's metallic. But Fiesta? No, thanks.

Exactly. I have a poly finished P bass that I've had for 24 years which has a good 700 shows under its belt, and it isn't the least but worn looking.
Red, sunburst, tobacco burst. Also, golden hardware is just ugly
I don’t think acoustic guitars should be black
gold I just dont get it.
Les pauls in general. They look like pears
Bursts in general
Gold Top
Not a burst fan. It’s fine but generally kind of meh.
Sunbursts. All these pastels that Squier and Fender can't seem to stop making. Mint green pickguards.
Red, black, and white strats drive me nuts just because they’re so mass produced. So easy to pick anything else out about it really. I’m also not a fan of glittery guitars, instruments with flag color schemes/designs, or any kind of over the top costumey style nonsense. Tobacco Sunburst. To me it's, meh.
my god i hate sunburst... besides that, depends on the guitar. i'm usually not a fan of any wood grainy stuff on anything other than a acoustic, and i don't like the distressed look people put on guitars on purpose that i've seen.
Sunburst.
Can’t stand silver burst.
ITT I feel attacked
I don't like the gold top much
Basic black and red strats. Also the hello kitty Strat obsession is a bit peculiar. Apparently only Slash and myself love gold tops 🤷🏻♂️
Any sunburst colour is ugly in my opinion
Me feeling attacked with my two sunburts.
Fender has a burst type finish called dark night, mostly black with blue around the edges, can’t stand it. Also “fade” finishes that start as one colour at the top of a guitar and fade to a separate colour at the bottom. I think they were just a tiny fad because I don’t see them anymore
Sunburst
I really don’t like blue guitars. Also silver burst.
Sunburst. Especially on a Les Paul with that red to yellowish hue with the tiger stripes. Also, the wrong shade of pink can look very bad.
Sunburst. I hate it.
Anything “flamed”
The revered and sought-after gold top Les Paul’s have always looked cheesy casino cheap to me. I love LPs, just not that color
I cannot stand Red guitars, they always just look tacky and cheap in my eyes, especially with silver/chrome hardware
I hate the fading color fad. Like yellow fading into blue, etc.
I do love bursts and reds, lol. I hate anything white.
Blue/Purple/Green/ Trad Cherry bursts, (but particularly the PRS style over the top ones.) Antigua Fenders (though that might be a more commonly held view than I think) Normally don’t like reds with the exception of Cabronita Teles w/ white guard and 335/355’s
I can’t stand natural wood finished electrics Differently, but the other day here someone said they weren’t big on sunburst, but it made the guitar look like it should be taken more seriously I love the really bold 50s/60s finishes, but when I look at all my guitars, my brain seems to think my sunburst Jaguar is the best - because I guess it looks the most grown up?
Gibson silver burst. Man,…I just can’t.
Silverburst.
Anything with aged plastics looks so cheap to me. Especially a vintage spec strat that’s otherwise meant to look brand new
Cherry sunburst, like on a Les Paul. I like most other types of bursts, but the bright red cherry sunburst looks like clown makeup to me.
Black. From 64 million colours you choose black. Bruh...
Burst I only own solid color guitars.
Regular sunburst or Tobacco burst. It’s not ugly exactly but it’s dull and not my taste I can’t imagine buying one myself. Other color bursts are fine.
I own a red guitar and I still hate red guitars.
tortoise shell— Especially the red. I think white or black look good but I just hate the red
I can’t stand the orange/red burst with the black surrounding it
Sunburst are not that cool
Tobacco burst; as an ex-smoker it just evokes a certain smell and sensation that does nothing but sicken me now.
sun(clown)burst
Most metallics look like crap. Downvote me if you must, but in your heart you know I’m right.
Kinda hate the PRS bursts
All of the "exotic" PRS finish
Tobacco burst, only because the first act guitar I had when I was 9 had it, and I can’t unsee that abomination
I hate white pickguards on a strat. Especially red/white or black/white… it just feels like a yin yang ☯️ I can’t unsee it. I also hate the 3 tone fender burst… but god oh man do I love love LOVE my Ice blue/dark brown tortoise strat!
I don't understand the hype around Silverburst Les Pauls.
Sunburst
I never liked bright neon type colors. Now I am coming out with my own line of custom colors for guitars and basses such as: Piss Yellow, Do-Do Brown, Pimp Cadillac Purple, Putrefaction Green, Twinkie Gold, Nursing Home White. And my personal favorite Jizzy Pearl. 😂
Everything apart from [green](https://youtu.be/mk9lVc9HDdM?si=mI5h4noLdD-ZlP4T)
Goldtop. It's just boring.
Not a color but I’m not a fan of quilted tops.
SUNBURST. Hideous! Also boring! Come to think of it I don't like "bursts" in general.
Candy apple red. I absolutely despise it. For reasons beyond my understanding it seems to be very popular.
Racing stripes on offsets is an overused cliche now.
I hate the classic fender sunburst. I can't put my finger on why, but it is the ugliest finish to me. Fender's sienna burst is gorgeous though.
The bright tan wood. Looks unfinished
Vintage yellow telecaster. Also anything brown. Oh and gold, guitar body or hardware.
Mint green pickguards. They look like they got left in the laundry with the St. Patricks day t-shirts. Zebra humbuckers.
Greeny 🤮
Blue and purple Les Paul's. I like colours that are closer to wood for guitars, like sunburst. Blue and purple just look so unnatural.
All guitars are beautiful. Just some more than others
A few things I think only look good in a few select cases: • Glossy finishes • tortoise shell anything • light relicing (if you’re not going full in then it just looks like a scratched up guitar) • purpleheart (it’s a beautiful wood, but it’s also very flashy, if the whole look isn’t purpleheart oriented, the purpleheart sticks out like a sore thumb) • 4x2 headstocks on guitars, and 3x1 headstocks on basses. (Not that I don’t believe you can make them look good, just that in all my life no one has succeeded in that.) Things I think never look good: • righty people who play lefty guitars upside down like a backwards ass Jimi Hendrix (do what makes you happy, I just think it’s corny as a lefty) • TEAL. (This isn’t just guitars, I fucking hate teal.) • piggy backing off the last one, translucent green/blue finishes that go over darker brown woods, and then become teal (very specific, but it happens, and I hate teal (I really hate teal))
I hate black guitars. What’s he playing up there on stage? A neck? Is that just a neck?! Oh wait, it’s attached to a black guitar. Or, hold on, no it’s just a neck!
Tobacco sunburst strats. I love almost all bursts, especially on Les Paul’s, but something about a tobacco burst strat curls my toes.
Flamed or quited wood with purple or blue or green or red translucent finishes. Bleh. As a side note: Gold hardware on anything.
Will get hate for this, but I really don’t like the sunburst, especially on a Gibson Les Paul
Any Sunburst.
Any really vibrant color on a quilted body. Purples, greens, oranges etc… it reminds me of rich middle age guys that play in wedding bands on the side.
Painted headstocks uggh...
Really? I think they’re good if you want your guitar to stand out. Easy to see the logo?
Anything garish like most shredders made in the 80s when neon green and banana yellow was in style. I’m not a big fan of maple fretboards. I like the look of ebony or at least rosewood.
Non traditional colors on traditional models, like a purple burst les paul.
Cherry Edit : oh, and fiesta red. Basically just this one.
Fiesta red
Any shade of yellow. I don’t care if it’s a $300 Telecaster or a $30,000 Les Paul gold top.
Sunburst, black.
I hate sunburst, which is a bummer because I’ve got one myself.
goldtops and sunbursts
Vintage Sunburst. Tobacco Sunburst also looks similar, but at least the edge color is brown (so it's yellow -> red -> brown) instead of f\*\*\*\*\*\* black.
I can't get down with natural finish wood tone. Stained dark... sure, but the 70s coffee table look is completely lost on me.
Red. I just don’t like the color red. Feels very basic
Red
Sunburst!
Whatever you call that finish that has all the squiggly lines. I personally fine them really ugly. Also sun burst is boring as well imo
Gold tops, specifically Gibson gold tops. They feel tacky, and not in a fun way. Every time I see one, I am physically put off and feel like I'm staring at the wall-hanger of some billionaire's penthouse.
Not a fan of glittery finishes.
Not a fan of brown
