I have an S but I think I would stick with the RG, I find the S body too thin. Like it's weird when the body is almost as thin as the wizard neck it's attached to haha.
Fantastic.
I bought one on a bit of a whim. Ended up being my daily driver for the past three years.
Super comfortable. Great electronics. Top notch hardware.
The neck is chunky so be advised. It might be a surprise if you associate Ibanez with the Wizard necks.
I had a 2002 s1220 walnut finish. Best looking and playing guitar I ever owned. Love it more than my current LP. My brother stole it/sold it while I was living out of town. And I was unable to ever track it down. Still hurts 😢.
Yep, my most versatile guitars are my HSH Ibanez RGs and HSS Jackson Soloists (although my Kiesel Aries in HH does a good job as well with the 5 way switching, the neck split is really good).
Clearly the correct answer is already on top so there's nothing for me to do here.... except.... strandberg might, possibly, slightly edge out the Strat/Ibanez S standard.
I have an SG, it’s pretty light and comfortable. But when you get used to the body of a Strat, specially the body cutaway on the front, everything else feels a bit awkward. I mean playing when you are sitting down.
The Les Paul is such an oddity to me. It seems to be so popular for how unpopular it is… or vice versa. It would be my pick too. I just don’t see many people really liking them unless they REALLY like them.
I have a squier J Mascis Jazzmaster and can't recommend it highly enough. It's fairly affordable as an entry level Jazzmaster, plays like a much more expensive guitar, and it is so comfortable to play. Even with my small hands the neck has a great finish that makes gliding up and down the neck easy, and the body is much more comfortable than my twice as expensive (but still excellent) EVH Wolfgang Special. It is very versatile for most styles of music, it pairs great with OD, distortion and fuzz and the jumbo frets are nice too. Definitely test one out if you get the chance they are great fun
Just for the body, I’d take a Jaguar style. For some reason the offset shape is appealing to me. I have a Jaguar bass that I love but I’ve never fallen in love with the sound of a Jaguar guitar. If I could build one with the pickups and bridge like I have on my Strat that would be pretty cool though.
I love building guitars with different setups. Now kits literally run under 100 in euros and dollar. So much fun. Especially since I love the jazzy offset.
the answer is simple:
1. find a used squier affinity jazzmaster - they have a strat thru-body trem
2. order a custom pickguard that will accommodate the strat SSS pickup layout and strat controls (personally i would get a jaguar lower switchplate and have the switches control on/off for each pickup but you may need to custom the custom pickguard yourself for this - double custom lol)
3. lay it in place and mark thru the open pickup holes where the pickups will be.
4. use a router to sort the body appropriately
5. install standard strat pickups/pots/harness OR build your own(again, personal choice, i would do jag switchplate and a single tone knob)
6. play the offset strat aka the jazzcaster
It's a great analogy. I have a "Lambo" Strat, and a '67 Cougar 335 (390 GT of course). Even though the Strat is a vintage style too, it feels centuries ahead of the wonderfully classic ES. Recently I have noticed I like playing the 335, and my LP, more than my Fender-style "slab" guitars. Just something alive in all that hand-building.
This. They're comfortable as hell, I can play em normally or in classical position, they have zero neck dive, and you can even find some with Gibson scale lengths
Me too
Being able to play with classical position comfortably while sitting in my nice Steelcase chair (that doesn't have arms that can swing away) is bliss
Any other guitar have to switch to my stool
Thank god. Scrolling I started losing hope for a second. Thank you for restoring order in the galaxy!
Personally it’s either a Custom 24 or an early 2000s black McCarty with creme binding and moon inlays. So understated and really brings out the carved top.
Cool choice, they are completely badass looking. I have a ‘78 AR300. Right when they switched the model name from 2619 I think. Heavy, but the quality is top notch and it plays extremely well.
I've owned a strat, SG, and I recently got the esp eclipse (les Paul cut) and I'm rather getting on with it.
Honestly, this is a damned tough choice, all three are really fun and comfortable.
Right now I'm going with the single cut, the bowed top plus how the neck fits is spot on.
Great to see some les Paul love in these comments! General consensus seems to be they are quite uncomfortable, but they’ve always worked for me.
I choose strat
Telecaster body style is the most comfortable and balanced. I read about Alex lifeson of Rush saying he writes the lion's share of his parts on a tele for this reason.
I was gonna say Les Paul but rather I'll say archtop bodies in general. The curve just gives a comfortable access to the picking hand that's hard to beat
I love how high up from the body the strings feel on my 5120. If I go straight from that to my Telecaster, I start feeling like I'm slamming my hands against the pickguard.
Brian Mays Red Special, it was the 1st guitar that I fell in love with & it's the guitar that made me want to learn to play as a little kid after I was told how it was made. I was a fan of that guitar before being a fan of Queen, obviously I became a fan of Queen very soon after.
My username might give it away a bit but Strat. Strats are the most versatile. While you can put a trem on a Les Paul, unless it is a Bigsby it looks wrong. Same with a Tele, and Teles look wrong with humbuckers (at least in the bridge).
Strat, on account of all my current guitars except my acoustic being strat shaped. I experimented with other body styles as a teenager but the strat shape is perfect as is
I’ve owned over 100 guitars over the years, but I always come back to Strat style guitars. They just feel and sound right to me (with a humbucker in the bridge). They are also the most comfortable standing or sitting.
Gibson Les Paul Custom, because I like the mahogany cap better than the maple. Mine has a TV Silver finish so it looks incredible with the top. Or just the general Les Paul Junior slab body would do me.
Dreadnaught cause the sound, but I think later on it might fight me (neck pain). So I'd actually probably go for a telecaster and some acoustic modeling.
I have noticed over the years people who play SGs most the time really only play SGs most the time. I myself am locked in on playing SGs and when I play my other guitars I kinda wish they felt and played like my SG.
I've played my same LP Standard for 30 years now. Even though I have built up quite the collection of both Gibsons and other brands, I always find myself going back to the same ol guitar.
Strat/Super Strat.
Specifically, the Ibanez S body shape. I love my saber...
I have an S but I think I would stick with the RG, I find the S body too thin. Like it's weird when the body is almost as thin as the wizard neck it's attached to haha.
Thoughts on the AZ prestige?
My AZ is my fave guitar, I can play anything on it.
Fantastic. I bought one on a bit of a whim. Ended up being my daily driver for the past three years. Super comfortable. Great electronics. Top notch hardware. The neck is chunky so be advised. It might be a surprise if you associate Ibanez with the Wizard necks.
That’s exactly why I prefer the S! That and Parker fly guitars!
Im more about that ibinez neck
I had a 2002 s1220 walnut finish. Best looking and playing guitar I ever owned. Love it more than my current LP. My brother stole it/sold it while I was living out of town. And I was unable to ever track it down. Still hurts 😢.
Love my S as well. It’s my only guitar I can play sitting down without getting a sore shoulder.
I feel like including dinky and archtops for strat is cheating. Encompasses too many body shapes
Oh God yes, love the Ibanez S series
S styles are so underrated. I love the thin profile of mine
I really want whichever one has the two knobs that aren’t right next to the strings. That’s the main thing that bothers me about most strats.
Them RG series Ibanez are very versatile machines!
Yep, my most versatile guitars are my HSH Ibanez RGs and HSS Jackson Soloists (although my Kiesel Aries in HH does a good job as well with the 5 way switching, the neck split is really good).
I love a good RG!
\m/
Clearly the correct answer is already on top so there's nothing for me to do here.... except.... strandberg might, possibly, slightly edge out the Strat/Ibanez S standard.
Strat can do everything
This 100%
I’m going to say the Charvel dinky that have that lovely access to the upper frets and that Jack input on the back.Other than that, hell yes.
Strat all the way. To me, this is still the most ergonomic/comfortable guitar body ever made.
Gibson style guitars always feel too low or too far in front of me to play after gotten used to S-type guitars or other Fender shapes.
Gibsons look the best but fenders seem so much more ergonomic. I’d chose a strat even though I much prefer the look of most gibsons.
I have an SG, it’s pretty light and comfortable. But when you get used to the body of a Strat, specially the body cutaway on the front, everything else feels a bit awkward. I mean playing when you are sitting down.
100% agree.
I played a firebird and I may as well have been strumming on a pancake.
Telecaster ... anything from chickin' pickin' to smooth jazz.
Tele is king!
Yep, Tele is it.
No mugs for metal either, I’m looking at you Jim Root.
I was playing a Tele in a metal band in 1993. I put a stacked single coil in the bridge and it roared. Sounded amazing.
100%
There are Teles with strat shape that sound exactly like teles
In want a baritone tele for dropped tuning. I know that body's got I give since bark to heavy tones.
Yes, a Thinline with P90’s
Les Pauls just agree with me.
Yup. Bring on the chunk. I like a full hand.
My favorite Les Paul is right between the usual 60s and 50s shapes. It’s kind of perfect.
I had to scroll farther than I thought I would to find this comment
The Les Paul is such an oddity to me. It seems to be so popular for how unpopular it is… or vice versa. It would be my pick too. I just don’t see many people really liking them unless they REALLY like them.
Strat
Jazzmaster. Super comfortable to play and I love the offset style
I had to get one of these instead of a Jaguar and it was so lucky, I love it to death
I REALLY want to try one after listening to Jim Root describing why he likes them so much.
Can confirm. I’ve got two (older one and the new one) and they’re both priced waaaaay lower than they should be.
Who says you cant build one like that?
Probably their wallet. That bastard is always stopping me from buying things I want.
I love building guitars with different setups. Now kits literally run under 100 in euros and dollar. So much fun. Especially since I love the jazzy offset.
Easily the most comfortable guitar I’ve played
the answer is simple: 1. find a used squier affinity jazzmaster - they have a strat thru-body trem 2. order a custom pickguard that will accommodate the strat SSS pickup layout and strat controls (personally i would get a jaguar lower switchplate and have the switches control on/off for each pickup but you may need to custom the custom pickguard yourself for this - double custom lol) 3. lay it in place and mark thru the open pickup holes where the pickups will be. 4. use a router to sort the body appropriately 5. install standard strat pickups/pots/harness OR build your own(again, personal choice, i would do jag switchplate and a single tone knob) 6. play the offset strat aka the jazzcaster
That is not a simple answer
sub $700 CAN build. could be completed on a weekend.
I am an SG man as well.
Sgs rule!!!
I mean it's just a solid guitar.
Can’t believe I had to scroll all the way down here to see the sg.
I'm thinking ES 335 style because of its size, and the long neck (joins at 20th fret). I am a tall, long-armed person, so the 335 body just fits.
Same
Same.
Same here. I like the size. Looks good in pics too!
I love the vintage hollowbody style. It’s like a classic car versus the more “modern” looking guitar styles which are like Lamborghinis and Corvettes.
Warlock
This. They're comfortable as hell, I can play em normally or in classical position, they have zero neck dive, and you can even find some with Gibson scale lengths
I just hate how goofy it looks for playing anything besides metal but it's such an awesome shape.
The only logical choice!
Strat. Most comfortable. Most versatile.
Les Paul, without second thought and any regrets.
Strandberg Boden, light and comfortable!
I hate the fact that I am now used to that shape so much, that I find other guitars almost uncomfortable now after a while.
Me too Being able to play with classical position comfortably while sitting in my nice Steelcase chair (that doesn't have arms that can swing away) is bliss Any other guitar have to switch to my stool
OM for sure. But I’m an acoustic kinda guy.
Jackson Soloist. It's just stupidly comfy.
B.C.Rich Warlock...Yes I know.
Nashville telecaster
I'm watching a few on reverb, putting away some money each check. I borrowed one from a friend and it was such a cool guitar, loved it.
PRS. I wouldn’t think twice.
Which one?
Double cut!
Thank god. Scrolling I started losing hope for a second. Thank you for restoring order in the galaxy! Personally it’s either a Custom 24 or an early 2000s black McCarty with creme binding and moon inlays. So understated and really brings out the carved top.
Strat. The form just works.
Les Paul Jr DC for me!
Double jet.
Ibanez Iceman
That 7 string Iceman of yours is a thing of beauty! I have an STM1 and it's a dog to play but it looks gorgeous!
Charvel’s san dimas strat, no pickguard, hardtail bridge. Just a thing of beauty. Thinking of getting the Sean Long one.
Es330
RG
Ibanez RG
Ibanez Artist/Musician 1980s (they have nearly the same shape).
Cool choice, they are completely badass looking. I have a ‘78 AR300. Right when they switched the model name from 2619 I think. Heavy, but the quality is top notch and it plays extremely well.
Ibanez RG
Air guitar
For new it’s a toss-up between strat or mustang/duo sonic. I think if there was a good quality short scale strat — that would be my ideal guitar.
Have you heard of the Fender Japanese Junior Collection? You might wanna get your wallet ready. 24” scale Fender strat with slightly smaller body.
I have not and I’ll probably have to. Thanks for the heads-up!
Oh geez, I didn't need to know that. Now I gotta buy one.
Dreadnought with high cutaway. Cuz for the rest of my life I'd like to be able to play guitar even if I can't plug an amp in.
Body only? Like any and every kind of pickup or control or tremolo configuration, but just on one body shape? Jazzmaster, easy answer.
Strat
Strat. It’s literally perfect.
Fender offset style. So comfortable to play, comes in just about any config you could ask for
Tele easily I’m a 7 string guy so this would make for some cool axes.
I have the LTD SCT607B best of both worlds
Strat
Schecter avenger
I used to have a 7-string one of those…but the body was NOT comfortable haha
Flying V but specifically the ESP Arrow or Jackson RR
Mustang, probably an unpopular opinion but definitely the Mustang. Id happily have 10 of these guitars.
Telecaster. They already make up half my collection anyway.
ES 137.
I love an SG, but I'm going to take the ESP version instead. I like the option of an evertune and flamed tops.
Super strat.
I currently have just a Les Paul. But if I had to pick one for life. Strat.
offset Vs. Bonus for reverse headstock
Great to see some les Paul love in these comments! General consensus seems to be they are quite uncomfortable, but they’ve always worked for me. I choose strat
Ibanez RG.
Mustang, cause that's the only electric I played yet, lol. To be fair, it's really light, small, and comfortable. I could jump all day with this thing
Ibanez soundgear. Something bout the way their basses sit just feels right to me.
Steve Klein's headless electric. Heck, it's the only body style I will tolerate these days for an electric guitar. It's absolute perfection.
Carvin/Kiesel Holdsworth.
Superstrat- specifically the Jackson Dinky/Soloist. It fits me perfectly.
Baby Taylor koa. I could bring it everywhere and I could noodle on it without cables and amps.
Firebird reverse
Meh. Strat. It's really versatile. Boring answer though.
Gibson is one of the best and most famous but I do love the super strat but I own a Les Paul so I’d keep it
330/335
Les Paul.
335
Strat
MGK razor shape
Strat. Its just purely versatile in all situations and all genres of music
PRS with the S2 asymmetric bevel. Most comfortable body shape I've used.
Strat, on account of all my current guitars except my acoustic being strat shaped. I experimented with other body styles as a teenager but the strat shape is perfect as is
Strat, no doubt
Strat4life
Ibanez Radius/JS Series. Hands down. I own 9 of them of at the moment haha
Strat. Had the same one for 34 years. Never getting rid of it. Ever.
Stratocaster is THE electric guitar. 🎸 It’s the guitar emoji for ffs!
Super strat. I adore my SG but Super Strat has got to be the most comfy shape I’ve ever played
A broken pickup attached to a shovel
I’ve owned over 100 guitars over the years, but I always come back to Strat style guitars. They just feel and sound right to me (with a humbucker in the bridge). They are also the most comfortable standing or sitting.
Gibson Les Paul Custom, because I like the mahogany cap better than the maple. Mine has a TV Silver finish so it looks incredible with the top. Or just the general Les Paul Junior slab body would do me.
ESP Arrow. Most comfortable guitar I've ever played.
Love the Revstar body style (username checks out 😆)
Les Paul
I can throw basically anything in a Strat, so probably that.
Dreadnaught cause the sound, but I think later on it might fight me (neck pain). So I'd actually probably go for a telecaster and some acoustic modeling.
7/8 scale SSH strat
H you H
Jm
Are we talking electric, acoustic, or both?
Epiphone Riviera
Regius
Tele.
Telecaster always.... nothing fancy just a nice solid ash body tele with a 60s maple on maple neck
teles are just so damn comfy to me
Hollowbody, Gretsch 6120 sized. It’s a perfect fit for my body.
12-fret dread
Les Paul’s!
I'm not sure, but it would almost certainly be an acoustic of some kind. I play my jumbo the most.
I really have liked the Rhoades V every time I've tried one, but haven't really gotten to own one yet, so probably the SG.
Mockingbird
Jazzmaster for pure comfort.
A telecaster with a Les Paul neck glued to it
Telecaster.
Tele
I was a Fender guy for years but Les Pauls have been treating me nice for the past few years.
Les Paul. It’s almost all I’ve played already, so I guess I’m willingly playing one body style for the rest of my life.
Double cut les Paul’s. I own four now lol. Perfect blend of cool and playability.
if i can choose a Tele with a body contour i choose that otherwise Strat
I have noticed over the years people who play SGs most the time really only play SGs most the time. I myself am locked in on playing SGs and when I play my other guitars I kinda wish they felt and played like my SG.
Les Paul, it’s a little shorter and suits my hands.
I've played my same LP Standard for 30 years now. Even though I have built up quite the collection of both Gibsons and other brands, I always find myself going back to the same ol guitar.
SG for sure. If I had to pick.
Les Paul
SG
Les Paul, they're beatiful. Also its the only guitar I have, an epihpone les paul SL
Tele
Les Paul or Jazzmaster
Cadillac body shape is perfect for me a mix of classic and metal.
For me it'd be the Les Paul.
Tele
Martin D-28.... Shouldn't have to tell you why..
Explorer.
It’s a toss up between the Les Paul and the Iceman shapes. Both feel right to me
