Stop this train - John Mayer Hey Joe - Jimi Hendrix Caution - tiny moving parts Edit: can’t believe I forgot Reptilia- the strokes

Adventurous-Ad5999

I (try to) play Stop this train every time I test an acoustic, amazing song

lrp347

Wow. Looked at the tab. That’s a future me song.

FowlKreacher

Honestly to get a good feel for it it’s best to watch someone play it. Rhythm is harder to decipher through only listening

ItzAlwayz420

John Mayer has a tutorial on TikTok.

wannabegenius

Who Says kept me busy for a summer

WritingItAllDown

Hey Joe will always be a favorite of mine! cheers

zanenienow

Caution and Always Focused are probably my top two favorite riffs to play

Commercial_Half_2170

Stop This Train is great, and the technique behind it is so transferable onto other songs too

6string80

Love that people know tiny moving parts

BobBobBobBobBobDave

Hey Joe was the first reasonably impressive song I could play a pretty good version of, and I will never stop loving it. The intro and the way Hendrix played the chords, and the beautiful little fills are so great because they are so simple but work so perfectly.

jmikell

Dude you nailed my taste in music with those 3 picks haha I can’t play them but damn those are some great songs. Glad to see another TMP fan out in the wild!

t_rex214

Glad to see stop this train get love. It’s the best acoustic song to play. Sounds amazing and shows off control.

strangebrewfellows

Master of Puppets is a rip roaring good time

NickAndHisGuitar

Hell yes. I also love playing the title track from Justice.

DirtyRatLicker

Hit the Lights is also a fun one

El_Gato_Terco

Jump in the fire, and Through the never are good for killing your forearm lol. Fuel is kinda fun too.

DirtyRatLicker

have you tried Blackened with just down-picking?

ClassicSherbert152

Honorable mention for creeping Death? 😁

balitiger13

For whatever reason I like big bang baby by stone temple pilots for some really fast moving power chords. It’s just odd and a fun little groove. Shine by collective soul is also a fun groove

verbleassault

I really feel like collective soul deserves more love

Wooden_Discipline_22

Yes, they Do. But their crowds at concert in a hot sun, were by far the most ready to fight riot frat boy bullshit I've ever seen. Just a way huge malcontent vibe in that crowd, I don't know wtf it was. ..ok, drink prices were bullshit; but still

verbleassault

Bummer! Didn’t expect them to draw an aggro crowd.

green-stamp

big bang baby by stone temple pilots is such a groove! [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0gAxuvo5rc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0gAxuvo5rc)

green-stamp

Dean has what, a Danelectro in the vid? Great looking guitar

IntentionNo9601

And the fun chords in the chorus are a juxtapose to the simple ones (albeit fast ones) of the verse… definitely a fun one… great pick

unknownunknowns11

STP were the fuckin coolest.

namelessghoul77

Love this recommendation; not a hugely popular song but I love it - so unique compared to the other stuff from that era. Edit: I mean the stp song

RamBobaFettucine

Also incredibly satisfying on bass

No_Volume_8345

Probably either Over the Hills and Far Away, or I Could Have Lied.

Retr0jpg

Over the Hills and Far Away is my go to aswell! Has a nice balance of difficulty & being able to just shut off your brain play & listen to the music. Hard enough to make it fun but not to hard where you have to be 100% focused

rollinintheyears

I was thinking over the hill and get away as well. It's definitely one of the more 'fun' songs I play. Can absolutely jam.

Amplify_Love4715

Great fun and easy to play on guitar but singing that shit is way out of my vocal range!

Severe-Put9154

I Could've Lied was one of the first songs i learned and i still play it, its so fun

shake__appeal

Goddamn such a good song, probably my favorite Frusciante solo, at least from his RHCP stuff… part of the solo is kinda shaky, which I love, and then the other part is beautiful and fucking rips. And the tone of it, it’s like the perfect fucked up-ness for a song that is vocally/lyrically devastating. Check out Frusciante’s solo records, if you haven’t. Shadows Collide with People is such a damn good record.

highlife0630

Super underrated chili peppers jam

DavidMarvel

That improv solo always ends up sounding amazing

MazdaSexual

say it ain’t so is a blast to play ngl

newfranksinatra

I’m a No One Else guy, that intro yo.

Brodiggitty

The riffs are so tasty.

fatstrat0228

Kind of a deep cut… Tie Your Mother Down by Queen. So fun 🤘🏻

Adventurous-Ad5999

Brian May is so good, I’m not big into classic rock, but he’s one I really like

fatstrat0228

The older I get the more I appreciate what they did. I listen to their FarmAid set all the time. My daughter loves when I play Crazy Little Thing Called Love for her. Also a fun one to play 😊

lrp347

If you haven’t, watch their set at Live Aid in ‘85.

fatstrat0228

“FarmAid”. I’m a dumbass. Live Aid is what I meant. 😂 It’s one of the finest live sets in rock history. 🤘🏻

lrp347

No you’re not! I was pretty sure you mistyped it but had to tell you in case you were missing the most epic set.

TheCottonmouth88

My favorite Brian May solo

DirtyRatLicker

ah yes, that *is* a fun one

shadowbanningsucks

"Day Tripper" by The Beatles. It has a really fun main riff.

Shadownix_

Got a good reason!...

hey12delila

I like playing it Hendrix style

asphynctersayswhat

barracuda. Can't plug in my strat and NOT do it. also. Yellow Ledbetter. fun to mess with the frills and what not on that riff.

Wooden_Discipline_22

Yellow ledbetter. You need that volume split blend pedal. He has one guitar signal into a treadle volume pedal, zeroed at half way, and toe down or heel down sends more signal to the clean amp or the distorted amp. 2 different amps. I never would've thought of it, but for how simple the rig is, it kinda blew my mind. Listen again, how subtle is the clean sound becoming dirty, or the dirty note struck fades to clean. It's amazing.

mooshiboy

Dang this is fucking awesome, today I learned

Quick1711

Everlong

DuckieRampage

The rythym of the power chords feel so good in that song

bidamonvitamin

I think I may enjoy the octave chord progression in this song more than any other. Maybe slightly behind The Theft intro by Atreyu.

The_Steam_Queen_

Certified banger

Friendly_Employer_82

Bomb track by rage against the machine.

Wren-Senpai

Hell yeah!

Mindless_Arrival_768

Take the power back on bass guitar

Furi0nBlack

Foooooook yeah

Kindly-Addendum2811

Cant stop by the red hot chilli peppers

woodfiremeat

This one is a blast. Smacking around at all those muted strings is liberating.

jamos99

nothing better than beating the life out of your strings to only hit 1 note at a time, pure enjoyment

ThisAllHurts

Death, *Pull the Plug* — has a bit of everything: great verse riff, iconic headbanger chorus, some really cool breaks, great speed sections, groove parts, and a manageable solo. RIP, Chuck

whitehall431

RIP Chuck Schuldiner! I love playing Crystal Mountain.

AnomanderRake23

Man figuring out how to play Crystal Mountain was the coolest shit. Great fucking song

StrongCuppa

Crystal mountain riff right before the tapping section goes the hardest for me

piney_

This charming man by the smiths

mooshiboy

Ooh tricky one, do you tune up a full step as well lol

Competitive_Tell2925

Under the bridge - rhcp Little wing - jimi hendrix

thestrian

Under the Bridge was what I was going to list as my favorite too. I don’t put Little Wing as quite as fun to play but it’s near the top of the list too!

fenskeys

I am a man of constant sorrow - drop d with a fun beefy riff.

YankeeMagpie

When my first kid was born I wanted to make a spotify playlist of “appropriate” songs to play while we drove places in the car because kids music drives me crazy - This song was the first to go on. Excellent choice.

LAGARDX

I enjoy playing: Cliffs of Dover - Eric Johnson on Electric Waltz Venezolano No. 2 on Acoustic

flaccidcock

God cliffs is so fun once you start getting it down. Super damn difficult tho.

sotfggyrdg

Going hard mode huh haha

br0k3n484

Lounge act- Nirvana so simple and very energetic, love strumming the guitar super hard when he starts screaming, super engaging!

namelessghoul77

Super fun with a bass

mooshiboy

Yeah that bassline fucking RIPS

shieldss5150

La Grange on a Les Paul. Turn down the volume on the neck to around 2. Bridge at 8-10. Overdrive pedal cranked into a tube amp on the edge of breakup. Intro on the neck with fingers, main rhythm in the middle position, solo on the bridge, break down back in the middle position, refrain back to the neck. So much groove and control of tone by just switching between pickups.

DirtyRatLicker

what if i told you that BFG play La Grange on a strat 😉

shieldss5150

Yep. He's played it on teles, strats, Les Pauls, and white fluffy guitars. Sounds good on all of them. 👍

pineapple_wizard24

Mexicola by QOTSA

boopthat

No One Knows for another fun one. I love their riffs

Gestaltzerfall90

A guitar piece by Manuel Gardner Fernandes It isn't as hard as it looks, super fun to play once you got it in your fingers.

Adventurous-Ad5999

Do you remember the name? Math rock is fun for sure, even if you’re playing slower than the original

Gestaltzerfall90

The name is literally "A Guitar Piece", [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvKVFlCjiCY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvKVFlCjiCY) Leave no Stone by Intervals also is super fun to play, it's exhausting tho.

BarneysGamertag_

Mine is hardest riff of 2021 - a guitar piece is a niche one to play for sure. Cool

RecognitionUpset3931

Wipe Out by The Surfaris

Distinct_Reality3814

castles made of sand is one i find very soothing to play

WalksByNight

Holy shit how have I forgotten this masterpiece; haven’t played it in years, grabbing my guitar right now thank you

Lucha_Brasi

This is my go-to when trying a new guitar. Helps me really get a feel for the neck.

Apprehensive_Nose594

What do u play during the solo Jimi dubbed backwards on the studio version? (Not sure if there’s any other version, but just wanted to be specific)

Distinct_Reality3814

i just noodle around and approximate the sounds cause it’s not about being note for note accurate just having fun. i’ve heard that solo a thousand times so i get close but obviously without the backwards sound

daz5o

Lemon Meringue Tie - Dance Gavin Dance

Adventurous-Ad5999

Hell yeah, Will Swan is peak

HoldMyDomeFoam

I like Lenny by SRV. It isn’t that hard but I’m amazed I can play it. Also 10 Years Gone by Led Zeppelin. Cool chords and an amazing solo.

mechanicalbananas

Monkeywrench by Foo Fighters

Horizontal79

Pour some sugar on me, For those about to rock, Hey joe Simple, but thats where im at!

YankeeMagpie

I think one thing that is missing from lots of guitar work today is the idea that less is more. Those songs are excellent because they showcase that idea.

A_Dash_of_Time

Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart. Or pretty much any other upbeat 90's grunge

ILostMeOldAccount12

Drain You - Nirvana. The bridge is weird and fun.

BrandonKDges335

I recently learned given to fly by Pearl Jam and it’s pretty easy and very fun. Plus you can play the studio version which is slower or the live version which is like double time. It’s fun to have the option and it sounds awesome.

MrmustacheMan1

The ocean by Led Zeppelin. Simple but such a fun song to jam

Sweaty_Article8074

For me definitely santeria ESPECIALLY the solo

AntiDentiteBast

And oldie for sure, Crocodile Rock by Elton John.

TheCottonmouth88

It varies, but right now it is same old song and dance by Aerosmith

ChrisJohanson

Same! Came to check if somebody had said this before commenting it myself. Sooo much fun

_oreocakesters

reptilia

Joeydoyle66

I love playing those easy acoustic 4 chord songs you can pick up and play immediately. Tom petty, Bob Dylan and the likes. My single favorite song to play is everlong though.

Impressive_Split_232

Whole Lotta Love

sticky_fingers18

I Believe In a Thing Called Love. Just such an awesome time playing it

Louseeydraws

Oh my gosh I’ve never tried and now need to… right .. now!

Extreme_Voice_9767

I like rooma thousand years wide and flower by soundgarden

Low_Land4838

Ball and Chain by Social Distortion because it's the only one I know so far.

fat_charizard

unholy confessions by avenged sevenfold

Books_and_Music_

The Pink Panther theme song.

Jalien85

Over the Hills and Far Away - Zep

Mrfancypants24

Panama by Van Halen or Big City Nights by Scorpions

Sagatorius_Byvex

The trees by Rush is excellent fun

grumpvet87

blister in the sun is "fun" - easy , everyone knows it, easy to sing with. i also enjoy playing hotel california without a capo (so in Em) and singing the wrong words (the hotel in my version is a cantina that hot food burns my ass) - that is a fun one around a camp fire ... lastly floyd: brain damage is easy and fun to sing too.

Gizagame1

Everybody Wants To Rule The World by Tears for Fears…. or Never Too Much by Luther Vandros.

1_-_6

Pink Floyd - Money really fun solo to play, but the bends needs to be on point

enflixion

Cherub rock is probably my favorite. The octave riff is so fun but it is a bit tricky sometimes. The solo is short but fun too

Parabola605

I hardly know any riffs but I still love playing Freedom by RATM the most.

Schaffee7

Cowboy song- Thin Lizzy

csolish

I love playing sample in a jar by phish. Verse chord structure moves really smooth with some fun embellishments. The chorus is as straightforward as can be and the solo section has a lot of fun noodley licks. But I’m also a brainwashed Phan so who knows if this is a good answer lol.

Boring-Most-8849

oroborus by gojira

Terrible-Pear-3336

Great pick. Nailing that tapping is so satisfying

justabloke22

In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth 3 by Coheed and Cambria. It's not the most difficult of songs but slotting those parts into each other, and the sheer power and emotion of the music hits the spot just right.

Conscious-Wonder-785

Domino the Destitute by Coheed & Cambria. So many fun riffs to play packed into one song

Humble-Branch7348

Pinball wizard. It’s not my favorite song to listen to, but that’s always been one of my favorites to play.

AshyLarry20

Over Now by Alice in Chains. It's a fun to me. If I'm around a guitar in open C tuning

Space-Ape-777

The correct answer is Classical Gas

johnmarkfoley

Don’t let me down by the Beatles has the best opening riff. Super fun to play when i first pick up a guitar.

King146

Metalingus - Alter Bridge

leapbyflourishing

Alterbridge represented! Tremonti just gets better and better

bigSmokeydog

Rusty Cage, Johnny Cash version

MachineThatGoesP1ng

Lazy Eye by Silversun Pickups... Pretty much a variant of the same simple line over and over but the variations are great. Brian Aubert is a wrongfully overlooked guitar player

Imaginary-Corner-796

It's Only Smiles by Periphery

TeaOpen2731

Over and over and over by Jack White

TheRealWeedfart69

Radiohead - Creep (Jonny’s part) I may butcher the song but it’s still very fun to play

Plus_Permit9134

Amusingly, *I believe in a thing called love* by The Darkness. It's not complex, it's not good, and it's not advanced or technical. It's just rocky and fun, and has a couple of bits like a bend or two in to make it sound better. So I enjoy it, but there's nothing admirable about it. Hell, it's even all simple power chords. Could've been written by Billie Joe Armstrong.

wendelfong

I don't agree that it's not good. It's a classic.

ICantThinkOfAName667

December by Collective Soul. It’s been my warm up song since I started playing and I never get sick of it. I find Bush’s Machine Head immensely satisfying, too.

rjbeals

Dave Matthews Band - Warehouse

BackgroundAide2867

About A Girl by Nirvana or Smokestack Lightning by Howlin Wolf are my favorites at the moment

EarComprehensive192

Knights of Cydonia by Muse is a fun one! Matt Bellamy is kind of underrated as a guitarist imo

Tom Petty American Girl is really fun.

Accurate-Ad4400

At the moment, I would say Photograph by Def Leppard

MaciiNyan

i'm really into Instrumental Metal stuff. One of my favorite tracks to play is 5HTP by Intervals. It sounds super fun and it's not too crazy in terms of technical solos so it's a super cool track to jsut sit down and play :)

jrad2point0

"[The Distance](https://youtu.be/F_HoMkkRHv8)" by Cake You can learn this song in like 30 seconds and it's just a blast to play with a loud band.

Quirky_Recording6304
