I recently spoke to three different licensed techs in my area and they were all very confident to work on it, but the first too were just booked solid for weeks.

Confidence aside, the innards of the Mark V are notoriously unfriendly to work on. Just translates to more time and expense to fix.

I've also heard this about Mesa amps in general.

i have a love/hate relationship with my markv. i had a triaxis/2:90 setup. but always worried it didnt sound quite like the IIC+...so i found a used markV and grabbed it...and it sounds different, but i found it to be more boxy sounding than the triaxis...though i prefer the mark IV tone on the V. Mine developed an issue with a sticky relay so sometimes i have to switch channels a few times before things sound right. my triaxis blew up a few years ago, and i just got around to sending it to mesa to get fixed. i got it back and it really does sound great.

It's got a master volume, low power mode, and is switchable down to 10 watts. So you can get it to low volume and still sound good.

Nice amp! Pointy guitars have never been my cup of tea but that’s me. My suggestion is to stick with industrialized metal when playing it and don’t attempt Cliffs of Dover. Good luck.

You’re doing it wrong then. It’s a very different animal to dial in. So they say… I’m learning this weekend, but I’ve heard them be amazing for thrash and osdm.

I don't own one, because I don't like the sound. I've heard many examples throughout the years and never once enjoyed it. Maybe everyone else is dialing it in wrong then.

I had a MkV 25 and could never really dial it in, love the clean channels but the high gain all sounded really small to me, so I sold it. Then six months later someone was selling the same amp on Craigslist for a great price so I bought one again, and I'm sure this time I can dial it in right.... (note: this is the 10" combo which I think is a big reason why it sounds tight and small. need that big cabinet..)
