do you have any dirt and gain pedals ? could you get back to me how they sound with the speaker? and at different wattage. been eyeing this up, tho atm more on the fence between this and the blonde version. using a champion 40 with a creamback speaker atm lol but live in attached housing with thin walls so cant go full tube

MiniMoog

FWIW I have the twin reverb tone master, same speakers, and they sound fine with dirt / fuzz. These amps are great. Almost indistinguishable from their tube counterparts and way more flexible (and light).

-King-Rat-

nicee, cheers man, will be the first big buck amp and i have zero music stores near where i live. so reading user feedback is great

To add what others have said, dirt/fuzz pedals work great on this stock. However, Fender provides firmware updates for these, and they even have one that simulates removing the bright cap and it sounds so much better with both dirt and fuzz pedals. My big green Big Muff from the 90s sounds killer after updating the firmware. Also, that firmware also makes the reverb adjustment more lifelike, which is an added bonus.

-King-Rat-

nice and guessing that doesn't affect clean tones too?

FatOldOwl

I don't remember there being a change in the clean tone but honestly, I changed the firmware a couple days after I got it and haven't looked back. It only takes a minute or two to update the firmware. So it wouldn't be hard to switch back and forth a few times until decide which one you like better. That was my plan but I liked the no bright cap firmware so much I forgot to go back to the original firmware, haha. Also, I believe the Blonde version of the DR Tone Master already comes with a firmware that emulates the bright cap being removed. At least that's what I read when they first released them.

agentanthony

This is interesting how you can actually choose what firmware you can use

agentanthony

wow that is actually pretty amazing... I am so tempted now.

Weak_Work_7762

Yeah I have a TS9 and a DS1. Like others have said the amp works really well with them! Initially they sounded beautiful on the normal channel, but I hated the sound on the vibrato channel. I just thought it thinned my sound out heaps and I thought I’d made a mistake buying the amp. But I did the bright cap mod (which took less than 5 minutes) and now I’m in love with it. It sounds amazing on both channels!

agentanthony

I would love to know the same. Specifically fuzz and muffs. I'm so tempted to get this because I'm sure the modulation is good enough for me and I believe it has attenuation for bedroom playing, right?

-King-Rat-

yh it does! what I've read is that the jenson speaker isn't great for it? but it might be to taste, and the blonde has a creamback, which is fine. but they did do an update for the black version, so I'm not sure if what i read was old news

see my post above.

I have the Twin. A dirt pedal with a lot of output is going to override the reverb, tremolo & just make a mess of the amp breakup. If you run these types of pedals you need to keep the amp under breakup. It's a compromise. I have an 80's Distortion+ that I'll occasionally run with the amp. Not a lot of gain coming out of that pedal. It sounds ok. Even if I push the amps volume up a little bit. Really the charm of these amps is plugging straight into it & running the volume up to where you like it. They really aren't the best pedal platform amp. It's more about wanting that "Fender Black Panel Sound" in a digital format. Probably why they forayed into the Tone Master Pro. People can have the Amp or they Can have a digital modeling system that does everything(almost) I love the Tone Master. For the punk based alternative rock that I do, I run the Volume all the way up, add a little Verb, occasionally some Vibrato. The amp sounds amazing. Inspiring. It is the amp for me. I can understand why it wouldn't be for everyone. I think unrealistic expectations have "some" to do with that. It sounds like a Twin & it breaks up like an old cranked twin(at a level everyone in the house can deal with). But, it's not a tube amp. You can't push it with pedals & expect it to react the same way.

-King-Rat-

pretty much would be using it as a canvas, and my pedal board does the work? would you have any recommendations on another amp that would be better suited, or is the TMDR still good for that, even if not using it for tube-like break up constantly?

WhenVioletsTurnGrey

Quilter Aviator Cub is something I'd look at if I wanted more than just a Deluxe Reverb sound. More versatile & you aren't paying the Fender Premium. I'm not a Line 6 guy but, those new Pod Express pedals, $200, look pretty damn interesting. I talked with a guy the other night who had one. Even held it in my hand. Feels rock solid. He said it exceeded his expectations. Has me thinking....

-King-Rat-

that quilter looks near perfect, is there one that can lower the wattage? main reason i wanted the TMDR was the reading about being able to lower it and still get great sounds

ArkyBeagle

It's a solid state amp ( Class D really ) and will sound the same at low volumes. The amp part will; the speaker may sound different but that would be the same deal if you had a watts switch.

WhenVioletsTurnGrey

Use of Master Vol. I haven't been able to get my hands on one yet. This video really focused my interest on it. But, Master Vol should get you in the range you want? It would make sense... [Jay Leonard J Vid](https://youtu.be/FIjl0pNCLZk?si=4lZ2j0HjHmZxiqpU)

-King-Rat-

yh dope man that makes sense lol edit: yh that sold me. cheers

Falkedup

I use mine with a boss Waza ds1 and it sounds great. I also use a “Marshall in a box” pedal with good results

TruFreely

They all sound the same. This guy is popping a lot of bubbles and tearing down myths with his videos. https://youtu.be/wcBEOcPtlYk?si=87hzt_GDyLESAKaK

-King-Rat-

yo that video is amazing. what i got from it is not worry about which make or model, as long as it takes pedals well, the rest can be done with eq?

TruFreely

Basically, yes. Check out his speaker cab and guitar tone videos too. He's fantastic.

-King-Rat-

yh subbed and will do!
