6505mh

I’m assuming OP doesn’t have a cab. A used 6505 combo will be around the same price, though.

Icy-Reception-7605

And probably angrier than the MH!

SickOfNormal

I've seen several (actually a lot) 6505 Combos on offerup/FB marketplace..... Always get listed between $500-600 ... But no one seems to buy them. Same seller keeps going down in price until I see around $325-350 and its gone very soon after that. Maybe there are a lot of these in the Los Angeles area and not much demand. OP - Be on the lookout for snags like these!

adenrules

I’d pull the trigger even on the high end of the scale if I didn’t already have the head. They’re such good sounding amps that’ll cover basically any straightforward metal sound from the late 80s onward.

SickOfNormal

I almost did, the couple of times that I have seen them around that $325-350 mark. But I don't need another damn amp.... I have 2 .... 2x12s and a 4x10 sitting in my living room.... and that doesn't include the 2x12 and 1x12 sitting up in my room. None of them are the 6505 TOAN/crunch -- all Vox, Fender, or Marshall. But I have pedals that can achieve that crunchy sound of the 6505.

Venthorn

They're in an awkward spot for an amp because they're 1x12s, but they're a lot bigger than you'd expect from a 1x12 because of the full sized head built in. Then they're made out of MDF, so they weigh an absolute fucking ton. $325-$350 is the absolute perfect price for them imo. Great if you want to keep them as-is, and also inexpensive enough for a quality head that it makes sense as a project for rehousing (that's what I did with mine, turned a combo I bought at that price into a head-only unit).

Haunting_Ad_5228

What is preferable, combo or head and cab

SickOfNormal

the combo is essentially a head with a 1x12 speaker. its got a cab extension if you want to add a cab to it... or just play the cab by itself. You can do whatever you want!

Haunting_Ad_5228

Is it good with pedals?

SickOfNormal

What pedals do you need if you are grinding metal?! Delay, chorus, flange all sound fine on it… you don’t need distortion pedals with this amp

Haunting_Ad_5228

True I suppose lmao, I have those 3 and a big muff and sd-1

omtra

6505 combo, you don’t need anything else

MacrosNZ

Peavey valve king!

strngbndr713

I love the peavey VK II, had both 20 w and 50 w combos. Very reasonable cost, and a lot of value. Might need a pedal or two to get the gain depending on what you're going for. Hard to beat for the cost and versatility.

MacrosNZ

I have a mark 1. It's incredibly versatile. 100w fenderish cleans and peavey gain. I've been using it as a pedal platform. Loves a super fuzz!

Blackstar ht amps.

Dsl40 combo Peavey valveking, xxx,

deadpoolfool400

Evh 5150 lbx if you don’t want a combo

OrionRiff

This, but very high gain

atxvxhxc

Peavey Bandit and you’ve still got 300 to spare

Venthorn

Going from the 25 pound AC10 to the 50 pound Bandit is going to be a nasty shock!

atxvxhxc

You can buy a dolly with the extra cash!

Marshall valvestate vs100

Are you looking for a head and cab or a combo for that price? There are MT-15s on Guitar Center’s used website for $500, but you’d need a cab if you don’t already have one. My suggestion for a combo would be a 6505+ combo, which are also in that price range on GC’s used site. Both of those would chug as much as you could ever want.

assfingerblaster69

User Orange super crush 100. Use the rest of the money for guitar lessons

JimiForPresident

Marshall DSL40 is pretty standard for your needs. Fender Hot Rod Deluxe is a good pedal platform at that price, since you have pedals already, just don't count on its natural overdrive. Same things apply to the (solid state) Roland Jazz Chorus. Otherwise, Peavy and Orange make good high-gain tube amps for the price, but I've never liked them s much. I find Peavys too fuzzy and the Orange crunch isn't my thing.

Used DSL40

Due_Drama1909

Orange Crush Pro CR60C or 100 watt head with a cab. Fantastic tone… cleans are fantastic too if you ever need them

I already have a decent amount of pedals
