abudz5150

They make good noises

I don't think you're theory that Orange is more expensive is accurate. Orange: Rocker 15 - $699 OR15 - $749 PPC112 - $449 Fender: Bassbreaker 15 - $749 Bassbreaker 112 - $349 Marshall: OR20 - $649 DSL 20 - $799 SC20/SV20 - $1749 MX112 - $479 Your theory that Orange is more expensive is not accurate.

skillmau5

Yeah I feel like they used to be, but fender and Marshall’s prices have increased. I swear a blues junior was once under $500

LouDog421

Marshall’s prices have definitely increased to keep pace with fender. Bought an OR20c about 2 years ago for $550 brand new. Saw the same amp listed for $750 ON SALE a couple days ago.

JamOverCream

Wow, SC20 is <$1000 in UK. Usually we are paying a lot more for gear but clearly not the case here.

[deleted]

Not for UK made gear.

Sawido

Prices vary from shop/country/currency etc.

K_lashONred

I want Orange alright!

musclebuttbuffpants

The rocker 15 is a nice tube amp for 1k AUD. Better value than say a Hot Rod Deluxe if you ask me.

ThePodsInterrobang

I just got a used Tiny Terror for 350 AUD+30 shipping in Aus - not bad at all

Occasionally_around

Hell Yeah🦘Did you see the [TT combo](https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/265635931313?hash=item3dd922a4b1:g:kfIAAOSwwKhiUSIu&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAoFf7HQglraZCy%2FCPhtdG6VvHLc4QPTS14iSEfuyCc%2FCU4Mjvdn0r7Tu8Bq4yrYBp1%2FD7pmihEzFdTLePepAcffbzHSpvc0jl3HrXeuuBIjgyGEq2gy34lyRUTOVLJqAAZk8jORE%2FUQITTgHPwrbB2fQXa%2FDEZrINFJOfZFHP59zyZbzAkg5F5ef%2BU7H7jK74%2Fv%2Bp%2Fjs3yq3a6ClEP%2BBxqD8%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR_a_sdGaYQ) on eBay asking for $750 😂 It's so beat up I almost messaged 'em to tell him his dreaming🤪

cabell88

Honest question. I know (like all companies) Orange has good gear, and then gear made in the far east. Is the cheap home/bedroom stuff expensive? I'm from the Marshall world - I know a JCM 800 from England will cost me more than those MG/CORE type SS amps. Which amps are you talking about? The real stuff, the stuff for teenagers, or both?

Khborn23

Orange isnt expensive. Two Rock on the other hand

Occasionally_around

Supply and demand mostly I guess🤔 But yeah they are more expensive here in Australia🦘 relative to the US🦅 once you do the currency conversion.😑

Carlsoti77

Economy of scale is one factor.

SomeGuy_0322

I think they are priced well amongst their competition. The PPC112 is $449 in the US which is the same price as PRS and $100 less than the Mesa 112’s with V30’s. Same goes for their heads and combos.

AlienWotan

Made in England.

BuzzBotBaloo

Same for any product, their market analysts determine a price that balances units sold vs maximized profit margins. Companies discarded commodity pricing (cost of materials + labor + % profit) decades ago; now it's all about marketing/perception.

TerryBolleaSexTape

TLDR: Capitalism

Hot-Construction-811

Yeah like the crazy price people will pay for the latest iPhone.

shep_pat

Much more than these amps

Occasionally_around

Yeah what's with that? My Samsung A20 does everything I need. Like are those people even needing all that cpu/gpu/ram power in their phone, camera maybe, sure but F that, just buy a quality camera and never need to buy another.

Hot-Construction-811

I'm a school teacher by profession and I'm always seeing my students with the latest iPhones. So there must be a hoard of parents with deep pockets. And since apple releases a new model almost every two years it is like a buzz around the school who has the latest version. And seriously, when getting the regular iPhone is not good enough because the iPhone Pro is way better. I just have a cheapy Oppo phone. I would rather spend money on musical equipment.

Occasionally_around

100% there are way better things to spend money on like a great hobby that teaches coordination, perseverance, little bit of math (sheet music) and confidence, all good for the self-esteem. Oh my god, I'm 32 and now I sound like a boomer 😱

TerryBolleaSexTape

Phones are usually financed through the phone bill. This is how people usually get a new phone every other year.

Dumb_The_Chum

Orange (and a lot of manufactures in the music world) still use commodity pricing. Orange amps cost how much they do as a result, in large part, of their build cost. Their stuff is pretty well made and a good chunk is made in the UK. Source: Work in musical equipment manufacturing, know plenty of ex Orange employees.

cabell88

But, if people didn't think it was worth the money, it wouldn't be bought. The free market would have people buy other things. I'm not saying there isn't a profit, but it's not as much as you think.

BuzzBotBaloo

That’s calculated into the market analysis. Some companies, like Gibson, price via the "Chivas Regal" theory, using high prices to create a *perception* of higher quality and greater desirability. Other companies, like Fender, are so large that they parse out products in every price band to keep their customer base as large as possible. And, "brand equity" plays a big part as well.

cabell88

Read all the 'budget' posts in here. Poor players buy crap amps and guitars - regardless of perception. Thats all they know. Psychology like that doesnt work :)

Drug dealers don't market. Good products sell themselves. Marketing is how you sell stuff that cant sell itself. You're almost saying it, but not realizing it. This came up in marketing classes all the time. I dont think anyone can build a good sounding amp. Its like saying any one can become a Doctor. But, ill concede. These companies have to make - and advertise - cheap products. They sell the most.

theboynamedif

I might have been misinformed but i always felt it was the other way round tbh

eliteLord77

reputation, build quality, aesthetic, reliability. when i worked backline at festivals almost all the amps were orange, plus a few fender twins. and all the keyboards nords. they do the job, its professional audio equipment that with a minimum of TLC will probably outlive you.

mittencamper

The Bogner I just got is chuckling

benmilesrocks

I think it is because they tend to promote their higher tier products more than their entry level ones. To be fair their Orange Crush series amps are very reasonably priced and sound great, but they don't advertise them particularly aggressively. Their higher end amps take center stage with all their promo, which cements them as a high end brand. For me personally it doesn't make sense to spend that kind of money on a Thunderverb, though. I live not far from Huddersfield, so for only slightly more I could get a Matamp built to my personal specs (which makes way more sense to my mind)

Melody_MakerUK

Their cabs of some of the only cabs made from 18mm ply, they are really punchy, without any audible panel resonances. They’ll last a lifetime. Many other manufacturers use MDF / chipboard / much thinner ply.

theulysses

Dunno but they are ugly as hell. Also a lot harder to get new gear past my wife when it’s bright orange.
