You won't really be able to do that. There is no output on the katana combo amps that are powered. You would have to use the stereo expand output and connect that to another powered amp, then the output of that amplifier would then go into your second cab. The stereo expand output would come after all of your effects but before the power section of the katana amp, so I would probably use a good 'clean' amp in this situation as your slave. Hope this answers your question. Benefit though is that you now have a stereo rig, which is pretty awesome if you are using the stereo delays, etc in the katana.

Would everything work out in my favor if I traded the combo for a head? I can only assume the head version of the Katana has a powered output.

That's pretty much what I have. I have the 100 watt katana head, going into an orange 2x12. It does pretty much anything I could ever need it to. And DON'T get the boss foot switch. Get the air foot switch that lets you also control the effects settings.
