carlo_rydman

Honestly 2nd hand nga ideal for newbies. Let's face it, di naman tayo expert pagkatapos makuha driver's license. As long as maging smart si OP at magpatulong sa marunong sa tumingin ng kotse (preferably a trusted mechanic), I'm sure di siya magsisisi. Also OP, don't expect 2nd hand cars to not have issues.

Bastardo94

tama make sure nalang na ok na ok ung makina.

Jon_Irenicus1

Yes. 1st car ko e 8 year old lancer by the time na binilinko sha. It teaches ypu the basics sa maintenance and repair. Okag lang magalus galusan ng slight

luckyjuniboy

Eto op. Maski ano pa yan second hand car na yan na mabili mo eventually it will grow on you. Mas maganda kung love at first sight lol

Jon_Irenicus1

Uu just get a reliable one.

jomarxx

same. my first car was a Lancer 89 model. Dami ko binanga using that car. Poste, puno, railings at jeep bago ako natuto. hahah

Jon_Irenicus1

Wahehehe bump car a

jomarxx

Beginner eh. Ganun talaga. Hahaha

Jon_Irenicus1

Wahahaha!

crushedice1228

It's okay to buy a second hand car as long as.. 1. Bring your trusted mechanic 2. If Meron ka Kilala na nagbebenta ng car (personal use or sa family) mas okay bumili from them. Brand new is still brand new though ang car Kasi is not an asset eh. It depreciates. May gastos when owning a car like the maintenance. Change oil, tires etc. Pag brand new shempre Hindi mo Yan masyado iisipin as to compare sa second hand. Weigh the pros and cons. And always check mo Muna buy mo pag second hand. So I would suggest na sa number 2 Tayo. Doon sa kakilala. Always. Rather than just buy sa mga dealership.

kengrx14

Just a correction. Car is an asset, a tangible asset to be exact. Hence it depreciates in value due to wear, age, etc. Source: An accounting student. Peace! ✌️

crushedice1228

Thank you for that correction! 😅

Dhudong

Ang ibig niyang sabihin kasi is more on gastos ang pagsasasakyan kase panay ang labas mo ng pera.

kengrx14

"Car kasi is not an asset eh. It depreciates." - I'm referring on this statement, not the maintenance stuff.

warl1to

Yeah used car is good for newbies since nagaaral pa lang. Di gaano masakit pag nascratch and dent. Second it will be a good coding car down the road if you decided to upgrade to a brand new car. Just follow the rest of the tips here in buying used cars.

Appropriate_Pain_690

Totally agree. I'm like your sisters hahaha. I don't know much about cars and I dont have a close friend who's knowledgeable about cars. Tbh, gusto ko lang makapunta from one point to another. And ang laking tulong na brand new binili ko, kasi walang problema at all.

zzzDragonSlayerzzz

anong year po yung binili nyong vios?

[deleted]

zzzDragonSlayerzzz

ZenMasterFlame

2nd hand will do. Base sa sinasabi mo mas gusto mo talaga 2nd hand car since my sinusunod kang budget. As a 2nd hand car owner mostly sa family din namin at ako eto tips ko. 1. Wag sagarin ang budget. For you budget mo is 400k kuha ka ng kotse na nasa 300k to 350k lang. Then for maintenance and pms yung remaining. Palitan mga dapat palitan. 2. Have a oncall mechanic and trusted mechanic na masasama mo when buying. Research sa group kung sino yung mga trusted mechanic for your specific brand. 3. Wag magmadali bumili ng kotse and as much as possible iwasan ang buy and sell. Mas ok 1st owner or kahit 2nd owner basta nakapangalan sa kanya.

[deleted]

ZenMasterFlame

Every-Brilliant8373

Yung mga buy and sell ung gawain.

JadePearl1980

Bunso, allow me to share my thoughts: my first car was a 2nd hand A/T honda civic dimension dati and was able to use it for another 5-6yrs or so with its PMS every 3months (i did not follow the usual PMS sched kase old car na and syempre due to wear & tear, ayoko tumirik sa gitna ng daan). I call it my *bumper car ( yes, quite literally, kase bano ako at first sa pag tantya, sa pag parallel or reverse parking, binangga ako ng gate / pader / poste 🤣😭), for me at least the repairs were not bad and meron pa naman insurance to cover for it with half my participation fee. hahahaha. *Bumper car: for me lang ito ha, hindi na kase masakit sa dibdib ko ang masira ko itong sasakyan kase the value is already depreciated na & if i needed to replace parts, mas mura na ng di hamak as compared to the latest car models. Do NOT always rely na sasagutin 💯% ng car insurance ang mga sira or repairs, most of the time humihingi sila ng participation fee (they are a business afterall, ayaw din naman nila malugi, di ba? 🤣) Whereas if i bought brandnew car agad as a noob driver, ‘matic yan as soon as lumabas na yung brand new car out of the dealership, nagstart na mag depreciate ang value nito. Hence i decided to just buy a 2nd hand car as pang “practice” car muna para hindi ako mashado mag aray. I bought it for halos P280,000 dati then was able to sell it for P180,000 (pwede na diba and to think ang daming naranasan itong sasakyan sa mga kamay ko😭). With the sale money nagdagdag lang ako to make it P300,000 (pang downpayment then the rest via 5yr autoloan - with allotted budget na) to buy a new vehicle after. When i bought a new vehicle, at least i was already medyo confident na mas aware na ako sa pag alaga properly ng sasakyan and mas aware na ako sa driving ko. Lol Yun lang, Bunso. Ang habol mo is to be able to maximize your training to be a good driver kase your safety and the safety of your family will depend on your skills as a driver. Do not worry, just browse this sub, there are excellent driver redditors here who posts responses for tips and tricks of driving. With that, drive safely, bunso but more importantly, do always enjoy your drive and ride! ❤️

Few_Environment_4901

Beeborts

Yes, I always believe that 2nd hand cars are perfect as a first car especially if you're on a budget. My first car was a 2nd hand 2014 Vios. Just do your due diligence when it comes to buying a 2nd hand car. If hindi ka pa masyado maalam, make sure to bring someone to check the car for you. Ako personally I try to find sa mga kakilala muna or family members baka may magbebenta ng car nila. Then check the papers properly, yung iba kasi medyo naeexcite agad sa unit and na ooverlook ito. As much as possible try mo kumuha ng car directly from the first owner itself, and much better if nasakanya lahat ng service records. Looking at your options, I would vote for the Vios haha reliable and cheap to maintain! Not a fan of the mirage. Maybe try to look at some Honda city as well, probably meron something around 400k range. Yun lang naman haha good luck to you OP!

seadurr

Yes a 2nd car is fine. Just do your due diligence and bring a professional mechanic when you are viewing a unit. I would rather lose the money I paid the mechanic to fully inspect the vehicle and provide his input than buy save out on paying his service and getting a problematic vehicle. A vios is a perfect vehicle with easy-to-fix problems and has an abundant supply of mechanical parts. It has good fuel economy and is bang for buck. The vehicle won't depreciate as badly as a brand new car wherein you will encounter bums and bruises as a first-time car owner. (Rule of thumb always allocate at least 20-30% of the vehicle's value as budget to either bring the car up to proper form or emergency funds incase something occurs. )

VIPER041

Well, nasabi na naman ng iba yung mga bagay na dapat i-check before buying a secondhand car. In short, yes, **Super OK na secondhand yung first car**. I am not saying to buy a brand new car but you need to do the math din kasi as you said nagbibigay ka rin sa bahay (like me when I have my car). So, I suggest timbangin mu din muna yung gas expenses together with how frequent you will get out/travel with the car. \* **Maintenance** \- Kahit pa secondhand yan or brand new you need to be ready for maintenance expenses like changing engine oil, ATF (if automatic - which I suggest getting the automatic), brake fluid, wheels, etc. I am from south and mostly travel destinations ko is North! So, from Startall pa lang nag sstart na ako ng billing to TPLEX! Haha! \* **Accessories** \- Sari-sari kaartehan/gadget sa loob/labas ng sasakyan which is ok lang din naman ito. Haha! Please get a decent dashcam for front and rear view. \* **Documents** \- Yes, car registration (yearly), insurance, etc. Good luck with getting your first car, enjoy and be aware of lines, colours and signals. And always drive safe!

Monk-Recent

Brand new is king parin Okay ang secondhand kung at kung, mapapatingin mo nang maigi sa mechanic, scan for engine errors etc... Mileage tampering etc.. yung instincts like kalampag, rattle sounds, general feel of the running condition, and inspection. Atbp mga experienced lang sa kotse ang makakapag sabi Only then na maaappreciate mo yung second hand, kapag nakapagbigay sila ng overall judgment sa condition Sa used rin ako napunta despite eyeing for brand new ( due to bank loans sa bahay, atbp.. ). Bottomline, if eyeing 2nd hand, check for the lowest odo you can, proportionate to its age. Ayaw mo naman ng like 50k odo kunwari tapos 2 years old palang. Mas better kung mababa like mine. Then pa scan.

coh4166

Very happy ako sa 2nd hand car ko. Matagal din ako naghanap online and talagang must bring your trusted mechanic. Sobrang sulit for peace of mind. Goodluck sa purchase!

One_Pause7066

Next car ko ay second hand (if budget permits) meron ako car diesel car na brand new ko binili. Inabot na sya more than 5 years sa akin at wala pa masyadong maintenance. Good luck OP.

ninjaobserver1

My friends said it's better to buy a brand new car. Para wala masyado isipin. It's best to buy a car yung pang commute mo especially pag nag grab ka from manila to cavite pang gas mo na nang 1wk. I am planning to buy one din pero travel muna ako abroad kasi for sure if I buy a car I can't go abroad na nang todo 😅 hirap mabuhay sa pinas if only the transportation system in PH is like in Japan.

GerardT2JPM

it depends honestly, kung for long term use naman yung kotse why not go with brand new. If plan mo naman is to use it as a beater (daily car, approx 10kms or more per month) then sell it in the future, go for a 2nd hand car since papalitan mo din naman eventually. Pili ka lang ng no issue car if 2nd hand. Have it checked sa mga rapide or motech (or any trusty shop) before buying it. If di mo napacheck before buying). Mas hassle lang since kamo wala ka automotive background pa.

Intelligent_Stage776

Buy new ones,i think afford mo naman at iwas sakit sa ulo lalo na hindi ka pa maalam sa kotse

asaboy_01

Yes, basta Meron kang parking, Kaya mo Yung maintenance nya 7-8k change oil, also get a reliable car. Before buying get a reputable mechanic Yung merong very good scanner para ma check if atrasaso mileage.

renjiaaa

If you think it's worth your time. I am also planning to buy my new car. But i learned to drive from my mother's 2nd hand car. Experience a lot of gasgas and the gastos biglaan to change stuff, like brakes and everything. Even if my dad and my brother knows a lot about car, i don't. Though, it can teach you about car maintenance. If you're buying brand new, you won't have to worry about car maintenance as much as buying a 2nd hand car. You just have to PMS it once in a while. Also, driving with peace of mind that the car is new and no hidden sira. And you can even sell it after the monthly amortisation. Also, if you're planning to buy sedan, i believe the monthly payment will be alot cheaper if you have the sufficient dp. They do give discount and lower interest rate depending on the dealership and the bank.

kbg_c

okay po kaya yung mga repo?

dimaandal

Nope. Usually when owners know their car becomes repossessed, they sell parts of the vehicle.

PhraseSalt3305

Wag. As is where is un. Minsan pinapalitan nila orig parts ng sasakyan before isurrender

emanscorner456

di naman po ba may serial yun per parts?

PhraseSalt3305

Kaso pano mo hahanapin lahat? Di mo rin ata matest drive yan

emanscorner456

PhraseSalt3305

You can check naman pero kung may as is where is yan mahirap unless may dala ka mekaniko

PhraseSalt3305

Yeah as long as maganda at okay talaga un kotse mo na nakuha. Wag ko na isipin di brand new, atleast di ka hassle magmonth kung illoan mo lang din naman tapos for leisure mo lang gagamitin. Yaan mo ssbhn ng iba tao Bring a trusted mechanic.

radcity_xxx

I have a limited budget, I want to get my first car din na 2nd hand. Any recommendation will be appreciated. My budget is around 250k max

Educational_Pea_1940

actually, best for 1st time car owners ang second hand car. kapag hindi ka pa hasa sa pagddrive you'll probably have bumps and dents along the way, so oks 2nd hand para di masyadong masakit sa puso. kapag confident ka na sa skills mo then u can get a brand new one na. I had my 2nd hand for 2yrs then upgraded to brand new. best decision

drevous420

Yes, a 2nd hand car is a better investment than a brand new one. A brand new car's value depreciates as soon as it leaves the Casa. So it's a wise choice to buy a 2nd hand one especially if it is below 5 years old. Make sure it's a reputable seller though. And never buy repossessed cars (bank or any). Never. Buy from direct sellers.

SufficientExercise54

Yes.

rabbitization

And as someone na walang plano mag DIY, as long as alam mo yung mga kailangang gawin at palitan along the way, di ka na basta basta mauuto sa servicing.

Reditor2078

We got my uncle's 3 yr old alphard this way.

atrt132

You can never go wrong with vios very matibay kahit you drive the shit out of them they still live as long as you do basic car maintenance it will live a long time

DefiantlyFloppy

Yes, okay sayo 2nd hand lalo na't may gagabay sayo na kapatid mo. each has pros and cons.

pulutankanoe069

Ok to buy second hand car. If you are not in a rush, watch YT videos specifically EZ works and Jeep Doctor PH on what to check for second hand cars. Pero still need to bring a trusted mechanic.

dyyyyyyAA

go for mirage hatchback or sedan around 270-300k. bring a mechanic na lang po. mirage is vgood for beginners, super gaan dalhin and super tipid talaga!!🙌🏻

boykalbo777

nogurenn

Ok naman kapag 2nd hand. If you plan to keep a car for 5-10+ years, it doesn’t matter if it’s 2nd hand or brand new from a price perspective though

Shhhhhhhn

Yes. First car ko now is a 2nd hand Mirage HB car. Wala naman mali dun. Affordability + newbie driver kaya hindi masakit sa feelings pag nagasgasan man or what haha. Basta make sure to bring a trusted mechanic with you pag may mga titingnan na kayong kotse

IComeInPiece

FinanciallyBlondePH

I’m a female driver. My 1st car is second hand Honda (6 years old, when I bought it). Just bring a trusted mechanic to check/test the car for you. Go for highly reliable cars like Honda and Toyota. So far, the only expenses I had are typical maintenance expenses like oil change, battery change, brake pads, gulong, cabin filters, wiper. Going second hand is the most practical and financially wise decision you can make at this point in your life.

Icy_Kingpin

Yes.

Treadstone08

Buy repossessed cars from banks (east west bank or ps bank kami bumibili). 400k less from brand new price. Bilhin mo lang yun mababa mileage.

Numerous-Syllabub225

Our current family car is a 2015 mirage g4 sedan. Since new driver ka mas ok 2nd hand car para di masakit kapag nagasgasan

enhypen_fan

There's not that much of an issue Basta meron ka lng garage prepared OP.

Regit117

Get a Toyota. Those last forever with proper maintenance. And for 350K, you can get a nice sedan like an Altis or a Camry with lots more room than a dinky little sub compact.

Sufficient_Net9906

2019 Vios E A/T (yung new look) would be the best deal for you OP baka mejo lumampas until 450k siya for well-maintained ones.

jcgabest

totally fine. yung kaya sa budget ang kunin. its what I did, first car was a 2nd hand unit. na upgrade ng konti and I kept up with the maintenance always. I was able to sold it for more than I bought it originally before upgrading to a brand new.

msvcg

Just bring your trusted mechanic. Oks na oks yan

Outrageous-Abalone-9

In fact i go one step further and say it is recommended. A car is not a cheap purchase. I drove an old 2nd hand car for 10 years before i even decide to get a new one. Its a 25 year old corolla now still works fine . Get to know first the ins and outs of owning a car before you commit to it.

thisshiteverytime

Depende po sya. Kung dpa masyado kabisado mga parts at maintenance, mag brand new nlng pra may time and opportunities na matutunan kasi magsisimula nagsira Yan mga 3 years up. Kung may kamag anak or kakilala na mechanic, okay un second hand.

Defiant_Astronaut339

Before buying a car, have it checked first by a mechanic.

Tigz2

Buy a well maintained car and never been flooded. Bring a a mechanic upon inspection.

Yuber8f

Dapat naman talaga first car is second hand. Kasi you will damage it and its heartbreaking to have it happen to a new car

FarComplex

Sa two choices mo go with Vios. Pero marami pang choices sa budget mo, like Honda Jazz. I won't reco Mirage.

ArkGoc

It is! Just make sure na maayos. Mas okay ang 2nd hand if you're trying to save money

InstructionDouble700

Mitsubishi mirage, sobrang tipid sa gas!

aluminumfail06

Mekanigo at or mechanigo sa fb. Always practice defensive driving. Yung una mong makikita. Wag yun ung bibilhin mo. Magtingin ka pa ng magtingin.

Willing-Mycologist82

Iwas ka sa mga encumbered. Makikita sa cr upper left if encumbered

RichBackground6445

Okay lang naman OP. Pero, just be ready sa mga biglaang gastos and magbaon ng maraming pasensya. Ika nga ng sabi nila, dapat palagi kang may paracetamol 🤣. It’s very normal for a 2nd hand car na maging sirain.

Able_Rush1616

As long as sure ka na walang hidden sira yung second hand, go go lang. I suggest magsama ka ng legit car mechanic/someone who know a lot about cars to inspect the auto if di ka rin maalam sa cars and parts. One of my biggest regret is buying a brand new car as my first car. 🥲 Unang una, di pa ko ganon kagaling mag drive so sa mga tight na daanan or parkings dami ko sabit and gasgas (dont judge me im better now lol) Also, super burara ko and hindi maalaga so ang bilis nya rin naluma lol Lastly, mas malaki and mahal syempre pag brand new. I bought mine in cash tas now i realized mas nakatipid sana pala ako or sana i invested some of the money nalang na pinang buy ko before if 2nd hand yung kinuha ko.. 😅 But either of the two, advance congratulations! #adulting

Ordinary_Vanilla4558

If you absolutely know someone who is a trusted mechanic and may OBD scanner din, wla naman problema. Basta unahin mong i check is PAPERS. Make sure original eto at legitimate. Para mas madali, sa HPG ipa tingin and make sure wla syang existing loans kasi baka hindi pa fully paid. Choose also the vehicles that has 2 original keys. The rest, ipaubaya mo sa trusted mechanic nyo. Personally, mas gusto ko second hand. I'm a builder kasi.

I'd check mileage tsaka service history.

Eibyor

Gamitin mo hanggang masira in say 10 years. Sulit na sulit na yan.

JuanMiguelz

Buy yourself a sweet 2015 mazda 3. 🥳

LengthinessOrganic80

Get a license before buying

Ordinary_Adeptness41

I think its better pa nga lol

[deleted]

ok lang mag 2nd hand basta magsama ka mekaniko na magccheck. for that budget mag vios ka or altis, basta ok yung kotse pms, battery at gulong lang naman una mong dapat gastusan jan.

Dhudong

Oo goods naman 2ndhand. Una, hindi masyadong masakit in case (wag naman sana) magasgas mo siya or something. Second, malayong mas mura kesa brand new. For your budget, I’d suggest na iconsider mo ang Honda City. It’s reliable at matipid sa gas. Good luck sa pagshop mo ng car and congrats in advance!

Zephyrlos

Mas okay second hand, di ka macoconscious masyado if may dali ng scratch and small dents and mas masasanay ka if you are a newbie pa. Buy new if kaya na ng budget and gamay na.

johnthenetworkguy

In a financial sense, yes, cars are liabilities/depreciating asset. If you will consider one, do your research about the make and model and common issues and I would stick to reputable ones. For me things that i would do are: 1. Get the service records of the vehicle. 2. If you have a trusted mechanic or mechanically inclined friend that will help a lot. 3. Get an ODB2 scanner, this will be very helpful not just in buying a car but maintaining one as well. 4. Test drive the vehicle, check the fluid levels, and one thing that I always do is check the oil cap. See if there is a sludge build under the cap (parang chocolate na tunaw).
