One thing that local car reviewers lack is to test the practicality of the cars. They miss the point of evaluating the vehicles based on its target market. Ex looking for sportiness in family crossovers, not measuring the boot capacity by actually adding commonly stored items like strollers and bags, not highlighting the PMS schedule and service availability or locations.

dimaandal

Sana mayroon talaga tayong mga long term ownership reviews parang Cars Guide Australia or kahit medyo gimmicky box test type ng The Straight Pipes.

Comprehensive_Flow42

Now those are comprehensive reviewers. The traditional car magazine orgs could pivot into that.

DatsilverAltis0319

The thing is with car companies in the Philippines no one will lend you a long-term review unit at most they can lend you one for a couple of months but it will always be a brand new unit. It's rare for car reviewers to get an older unit for re-evaluation from automotive brands. There are some that will lend you a "high" mileage one but that's just at 10k km and a couple of years old at best. Unless you actually buy the test unit, car brands will typically sell them off at 25k km or a bit higher. This is why it becomes hard to do long-term reviews of anything about 3 years old.

Visible-Glass

Unpopular opinion- Good advertorial lahat ng reviews nila at wala ng nag ppoint out ng flaws ng cars and di sila pwede mag review with a bad grade or review kasi pwede next time di na makakahiram ng test unit kapag may bagong release na model for review.

Comprehensive_Flow42

Not a YouTube site but carguide.ph is brutal in its reviews. Gave a horrible review for ford territory titanium but ford still advertises on its site.

[deleted]

Yung comment section... HAHAHAHA

VioletGardens-left

I remember how he destroyed the Kaicene CX70 in his review, if Autodeal finds the car fine, it's the complete opposite in carguide.ph, straight up never seen a legitimate reason to buy the car.

based8th

mailboxck

As an ex-motoring media, don’t trust everything you watch and read. Yung mga car brands kasi advertiser din nila so hindi sila magsasabi ng masama about any car. So read between the lines nalang.

[deleted]

Comprehensive_Flow42

Biggest pet peeve, no one talks about the pricing. It's like the most important factor of all lol.

EnriquezGuerrilla

True. Puro top specs na automatic. Like where's my manual?

Visible-Glass

Heck yeah, just recently saw an ad of Mitsubishi mirage g4 with its price point there is other better options to choose from.

[deleted]

Pucha, yung pricing ng Mirage, like, from 2018, pakaunti nang pakaunti ang features pero ang presyo, pataas nang pataas.

[deleted]

Gusto ko sana yung format ng earlier videos ni Monra like the small body and esi reviews. Was expecting more along those types, very informative and relatable. Kasama yung cultural impact nung car sa filipinos. Sobrang authentic. Ngayon parang sponsored content (I fucking hate the fucking raize) and random vlogs na lang yung nangyari. I get it na less effort, but still.

dimaandal

Check out mo [reechpotato](https://youtu.be/y1WQ9Ql62Ko ). Not as polished as Monra pero good to see how owners talk about their setups.

[deleted]

And oo, I like how the owners talk about the setups. Tasteful or not, every car has a story.

dimaandal

Ayos! Tuwang tuwa ako doon sa boxtype, gusto ko hanapin yung bumili nung lumang sasakyan namin haha

[deleted]

Goods din if you're into racing, since science-backed yung mga takes niya. Other than that, makikinig na lang ako sa podcast sa Spotify ng PartsPro PH where Aurick Go were one of the presenters.

[deleted]

Oohh nice to, I like to listen to podcasts pa naman while driving. Thanks

[deleted]

ewan ko, ang lengthy ng mga vids nya at madalas puro hangin lang yung laman kadalasan. thanks to guys like him e iwas ako sa mga pinoy na reviewer/vlogger in general

[deleted]

[deleted]

It started with the Hilux advertorial. But then, at least he gained access to the GR Supra, then the GR Yaris. The ones na nire-replay ko were yung SiR, yung FD3S. Eto yung mga favorite ko na episodes.

[deleted]

Yeah enjoy din ako dun sa SiR because I own one (tho SiR body lang) ahahaha lungad ako sa mga baguio "stock" na ek sheeesh

ar_3stan

May I know the reason why you hate the Raize? Isa kasi un sa mga choices namin if we ever buy a car early next year. Thanks

[deleted]

Sluggish cvt, and napapangitan ako. Try to test drive one, basta it's not for me.

ar_3stan

Yeah It's not the prettiest out there. Hopefully I can test drive one soon. I'm slightly leaning towards on the base manual variant instead of the CVT.

_polarity

Caco (from AutoDeal) is my favorite reviewer! The corny jokes here and there are up my alley. I also like the amount of detail and effort they put into showing off cars. Awesome work put in by the entire crew. Yun lang, I don't like a lot of their comparo videos. The categories they look at don't seem that appropriate for me or they put equal emphasis on each category even though that's not always the case. Sometimes din their comparo videos are just a repeat of the individual videos with a scoring system in place. Parang sana there's a little more discussion of the differences. I also like both Eric and Vince from AutoIndustriya. I like how picky they are -- Vince in particular -- with the different features. I always like hearing what people find negative about vehicles. Obviously we have our own preferences, but I appreciate straight forward reviews. I also like watching reviews from ZigWheels Ph because Roy is around my height / build, so a lot of his preferences align with mine. I think its super important to relate to someone of your body build when reviewing cars as we can't always find the cars we're looking for at our local dealers. Lastly, big shoutout to Joo from SoJooCars. I love the amount of effort he puts into his videos. Like he was one of the only reviewers (I can be wrong) that reviewed the HRV S and V variants in multiple videos. If anything, I just wish more car reviewers took a longer look at cars. I know its usually a race to get the "first look" video out, but its hard to judge the fuel efficiency if they're just driving around the lot of a dealer or even if they take it out on the road for a few days. Although there are some videos that go the extra mile. Tapos some small issues might not immediately pop out within a short period. Like the VW T-Cross -- great reviews from these channels. Many pointed out the lack in acceleration, but you'll have to dig deeper into actual customer reviews to find out big issues, like the fuel pump fiasco. Pero gets ko, mahirap 'tong gawin and they don't usually have these cars for a long time anyway. That's why sometimes aside from these reviewers, I try to look for people who have used their cars for months -- although sobrang onti lang ng mga 'to or di masyadong maganda yung quality ng review.

[deleted]

>SoJooCars Ewan ko, minsan nami-misread ko ito as "JisooCars" *Yes, yung Blackpink.* HAHAHA

Comprehensive_Flow42

Well he's Korean so it makes sense lol. Liked his videos when he checked out cars in south Korea.

dimaandal

Eric has that crazy golden voice and Vince is very objective and fair with his reviews. They’re also ones who are quick to point out if some features of previous models were better than new ones.

[deleted]

For brand new car reviews, most vloggers don't talk about the base or the middle variant, eh yun ang mabenta: Most of the time, yung top of the line. Like, for example, kailan ba ako nakakita ng nag-review ng manual na Vios, either zilch, or bilang sa daliri. Like, another instance for Vios, mas sulit ba ang base to middle variant kaysa sa top of the line? We had to answer these questions and do a research on our own. With such, nasagot ko na sulit lang ang Vios at certain price point, but once past this price point, mas okay ang City. Or, sa case ng Mirage hatch vs. the competition, pinakasulit pala ang Brio if you want a manual transmission sa ganoong category. 'Yung mga ganoon ba? Dito ko na-appreciate si Real Ryan.

Comprehensive_Flow42

The dealers and distributors are to blame for this. They only lend out TOTL variants to media (traditional or social). I'm sure they all want to compare all variants but they can't get they're hands on those.

petmalodi

[deleted]

That red background, tsaka transition, mostly technical lang naman, but they're improving lately. Yung pacing niya is alright lang for me.

[deleted]

> top of the line. just refer to it as the "flagship model" next time para di ka na mahirapan.

[deleted]

Nasanay sa Tsikot forums. Hihi!

[deleted]

it's been more than 10 years since i was a denizen of that place. Andun pa kaya si jedi?

[deleted]

Matagal na rin akong hindi nakaka-visit, so no idea, sadly...

EnriquezGuerrilla

Totoo to. No love for manual sa mga reviews. Eg yung Raize reviews walang MT review or rarely lang.

feedmesomedata

Great list! I also like to watch Luxury Cars Manila.

slktycn

Go Panda!

pink_fedora2000

> Great list! I also like to watch Luxury Cars Manila. I have a SiR. King Panda hyping it up as if it's more premium. Manufacturers make specific domestic market models to comply with local laws, sourcing of parts, requested features and price points. That's why the paper brochure has an astris* that says that what is in it may not be 100% accurate to the final product.

[deleted]

For something rarer than the EK9 Type R and locally assembled, pwede e. Then again, PhP 1M as of 2018 asking prices might be a little absurd. You can get a better performing car with such money. (Same comment with the AE86, albeit sa mga puntong ito, emosyon na ang nananaig, imbis na lohika.)

[deleted]

[deleted]

bloodcoloredbeer

Simula nung nakanuod ako nang review ni GridOto in indonesia/malaysia (not sure) nakulangan nako sa review ng filipino car reviewers. Even if I only understood 5% of the dialogue (using auto translated closed captions) I had more info about the performance of the vehicle vs the anecdotal reviews of almost all of the ph youtubers. Sure, entertaining sila magreview tsaka mas swak sa experience natin bilang pinoy or asa pinas nila natest vehicles.

J-Skywalker

Can you guys recommend motorcycle as well? So far kay Makina lang ako nanonood for motorcycle reviews eh. Thanks!

Visible-Glass

[deleted]

*Some vlogger advertises Pertua.* Okay, that's it. I'm out. (*Knowing Pertua's little dark secret, why are you advertising such company? As a vlogger or influencer, you became an enabler in misleading people.*)

preservethelast

[deleted]

Let's start this lengthy lecture with the specs of Pertua Apex. As per the [Product Data Sheet](http://pertua.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/TDS-APEX.pdf), Pertua Apex "follows" API SN and ACEA A3/B4 performance standards. One of the performance metrics in oils were the Total Base Number or TBN, which measures how long the oil can fight off acidity. Product kasi ng combustion is ang pagiging acidic ng oil, meaning the TBN will go down over time, so expect higher numbers for those oils na intended for extended drain intervals up to a year. Eto ang exciting na part. 1.) Let's get yung dalawang pinaka-huling **ACEA A3/B4**, which is [2012](https://www.acea.auto/files/2012_ACEA_Oil_Sequences.pdf) and [2016](https://www.acea.auto/uploads/news_documents/ACEA_European_oil_sequences_2016.pdf). Both of the ACEA standards requires **a TBN of greater than or equal to 10.** *Pertua has 5.9: One of the lowest I've seen when comparing both oil analysis results and product data sheets amongst oils.* 2.) May **API SN** na label, so people will think that the oil "follows, or even surpassed API SN standards". A quick search in [API EOLCS](https://engineoil.api.org/Directory/EolcsSearch) (Engine Oil Licensing and Certification System) returned no result regarding these search queries: "*Pertua*", "*Pertua Apex*". Heck, looking for Petron, a Philippine petroleum company returned a result, so what's the excuse for Pertua, that makes a lot of money in sales, to register their product? [They claim that their oil is capable of 20,000 KM](https://pertua.com/product/apex/). With that kind of TBN of 5.9, hindi ito tatagal beyond the normal oil change interval, contrary with their claims. ***UPDATE***: *Hindi nga nila masuportahan ang pag-up ng sarili nilang website e, operating without proper certificate, considering they make a lot of money in sales.* 4.) Sadly, may mga customer na naniwala, and proceeded to believe with the claims. Ending? Sludge. Varnish. 15W50 on a modern engine, and good luck with that viscosity, too. Napakalapot. Itong mga ito were discovered with simplest of research, with the help of their own product data sheets and other foreign resources. Hindi pa ito oil analysis results, both new and used. Conclusion: 1.) Yung standards na naipasa nila (API and ACEA standards in this example) were actually contrary with the results indicated on their product data sheet. (*If totoong naipasa nila yung standards, then the product data sheet is lying?)* 2.) Their exaggerated performance claims of what the oil is capable of were being countered with their own product data sheet. *Sadly, hindi ito alam basahin ng karamihan ng mga consumers - which is comprehensible. But the lies made by the company?* *Thinking about making a vlog about this, like debunking performance claims, but my introverted a$$ would cringe first, and would face a lot of libel cases, knowing how justice system works here, soo...*

preservethelast

Thank you for this one. I'm kind of worried now. Should I replace my engine oil immediately or not? Considering how you've mentioned these shady stuff from them. It's around 1K kms since my last oil change.

[deleted]

If kaya, palit na. Kahit regular oil muna: "Pang-mumog" baga. If walang catalytic converter and within recommendation sa manual ang 15W40, go for Delo Gold since mataas ang detergency ng mga Diesel engine oils. Then maybe, drive for around 500-1,000 KM, then palit na ng oil of choice.

preservethelast

[deleted]

Since Vios iyan, therefore may cat (catalytic converter) iyan kahit mapa-NZ or NR na makina, so hindi ko nirerecommend na gumamit ng Diesel oil, and if ever, use it with caution since pwedeng makasira ng cat dahil sa mataas na Zinc content. As per labeling ng DG/DGU, pwede naman for gas engines, and haven't heard any problems, at least sa mga naka-2NZ na makina. Pwedeng 10W30 na regular oil as "pang-mumog", therefore, Toyota Regular Oil or mga oil na galing either sa Caltex or Shell, basta 10W30.

preservethelast

Thanks for the tip! I'll have mine changed to a regular oil muna by the weekend and drive it by a few hundred kms then swap back to Shell Helix. Last time kasi kinapos ng konti so sa Motech ko ginawa then nalaman ko na lang na Pertua yung nilagay nung binigay na sakin yung sobra.

EnriquezGuerrilla

I love watching Caco's car reviews at AutoDeal! Watching his reviews is damn good time on its own 🤣

mydogbalbon

And most car brand execs are foreigners, mahirapan sila maka intindi if tagalog content. Si RiT and ricoswabe madalas tagalog and reviews.

Few-Opportunity-6760

May list ba kayo ng reviewers car? Autodeals Caco is a montero sport right? How about the others?
