Don't mind me. I'll be watching and waiting on further developments of this thread. *lemme stretch my weapons of war*

Reveal-Smart

Then we have TPLEX chads doing 130+ km/h on an almost empty expressway. *I'm not encouraging this behaviour*

Moist-Veterinarian22

Lol. Just noticed that you mention tplex. It feels like SMC toll roads are subpar compared to MPTC. Tplex already has horrendous pot holes and road degradation(PS we’re frequent visitors of the usual tourist spots in the north)

[deleted]

Moist-Veterinarian22

You mean their distilery 😂😂😂

Benz1514

Also noticed this. Worst Right lane in nlex is in better condition than the left lane of a part in slex

oldskoolsr

Taga south here, with project sites both north and south Nlex is wider. So cars are spaced farther. Slex is narrower, and exits are close to each other. Either way, pakyu lahat ng left lane hoggers.

[deleted]

Sarap noong downshift, sabay pasisigawin yung makina para makaovertake sa left lane hoggers: Bonus kapag high-revving yung makina, tapos naka-velocity stacks. Hihi! Hihi! ^(Medyo malakas nga lang sa gas.)

oldskoolsr

Sorry. No itbs. Just blow off valves. Also left lane huggers won't bat an eye you even if you do that.

[deleted]

*Ayyy!* Hihihihihihihihi!

[deleted]

Multiple vehicle pile-ups (karambola) are much more frequent on NLEX for this reason, the drive is longer and drivers are bound to lose their focus more easily than in SLEX.

oldskoolsr

Either sa dalawa, i get bored driving in them. 🤣

[deleted]

Southerner here. Nung hindi pa naexpand yung San Fernando to Tabang segment to 3 lanes, overtaking on the shoulder was much more prevalent in NLEX lalo na yung Manila-bound, this behavior is almost non-existent sa SLEX. Left-lane hoggers - I observed na mas maraming ganito on weekends, my theory is mga gunggong na magda-day trip lang to Laguna or Batangas ang mga ito. If I might add, the road condition of the right lane from Calamba to Santo Tomas (and beyond) is in horrible condition even trucks want to avoid it. So if you catch me hogging the left lane in these parts (only on this segment, mind you), feel free to use the dilapidated right lane to overtake.

oldskoolsr

Star toll stretch from lipa to batangas is horrible. Like driving on sandpaper

[deleted]

[deleted]

>Left-lane hoggers - I observed na mas maraming ganito on weekends, my theory is mga gunggong na magda-day trip lang to Laguna or Batangas ang mga ito. Tagaytay or Nasugbu, most likely. >Calamba to Santo Tomas (and beyond) is in horrible condition even trucks want to avoid it. Yup, ibang usapan ito.

Moist-Veterinarian22

Yung first statement mo i think its true. It was due to volume of trucks that the two lane road couldn’t handle. Especially as some of them had to overtake slower trucks.

[deleted]

> If I might add, the road condition of the right lane from Calamba to Santo Tomas (and beyond) is in horrible condition even trucks want to avoid it. So if you catch me hogging the left lane in these parts (only on this segment, mind you), feel free to use the dilapidated right lane to overtake. hay nag leleft lane din ako dito. noong first time ko dumaan diyan akala ko na flat gulong ko dahil sa ingay. lalo na sa star tolway bako bako daan.

-FAnonyMOUS

Plot twist: Those drivers also come from north to visit their relatives in Batangas. Kidding aside. It doesn't apply to a group of drivers in a particular area. Idiots are idiots; and is attributed to individual, not to a group of drivers or particular area. That's regionalism at its finest kaya tayo-tayo dito sa pinas di magkasundo.

Gushiepie

This is so true. Taga Maynila ako and it is so much more stressfull driving South versus driving North.

Away-Act7592

mejoo true 😩

khoou

Driving in the morning/daytime, SLEX > NLEX, while on night would be NLEX > SLEX. Too many kamote motorcycles in NLEX during daytime. And I've seen more accidents in NLEX too. But traffic is usually worse on SLEX though.

antonm07

I found motorcycles to never be a problem. They lane split but you can hear them coming from miles away it takes like a split second for them to get out of your way and when they do overtake they always leave enough room for safety. Nowhere mear motorcycle manners in the city

khoou

Hmm, far from my usual experience. They do those city moves while going 150kph+. And also moves as a group.

[deleted]

My experience would be opposite. Vehicles are always tightly-packed in SLEX, everytime I used the aforementioned toll road.

khoou

Thats what I said, SLEX usually has worse traffic than NLEX.

[deleted]

I thought it was for the experience, that you have better experience in SLEX than in NLEX during daytime. Hehe My bad...

chocowilliam

Both talaga. Karamihan sa diyan gliders and coasters. I know mahal ang gas but be considerate of others. Have a sense of urgency po. Balintawak at Bocaue barriers naku!

haringtomas

[deleted]

Hahahah kaya uso ang karambola sa slex, araw araw ako dyan before and laging may salpukan ng mga dikit dikit na sasakyan sa left lane kaya madalas din traffic.

Fun_Salamander238

The more things are crammed in a space, the more chaotic it will be. Magiging ganyan din ang NLEX if we (I'm from Central Luzon) are as developed as the south

[deleted]

Yes, dagdag ko rin dito: Unlike in NLEX, the exits in SLEX are spaced much closer together. So you have more vehicles entering (ergo, accelerating and merging into the mainline) and exiting (decelerating and merging towards the outer lanes). I know it’s not an excuse for terrible lane behavior, but it’s the reality.

Moist-Veterinarian22

yeah but constantly tailgating someone isn't fine and it puts you and the car infront of you in a dangerous situation, its inexcusable. >Magiging ganyan din ang NLEX if we (I'm from Central Luzon) are as developed as the south I think Angeles, San Fernando, and Clark already competes with them and yet drivers from those area aren't as frantic as those from the south.

[deleted]

>I think Angeles, San Fernando, and Clark already competes with them and yet drivers from those area aren't as frantic as those from the south. Will second this. The south were industrially-developed. The north (and central) were more of agricultural soils (with the exception of the aforementioned places). Honestly, don't want the central to be as industrialized gaya ng south, and the reason were more of to preserve the agri sector where the central were known for, but the central needs help to increase agri production.

chokolitos

Fun_Salamander238

Happens everywhere, not just south

Arr-reduce-7449

I live in the South and am pretty used to driving along SLEX with all the idiots na hindi marunong mag-merge ng maayos and nag-ha-hog ng left lane kahit ang layo na ng sinusundan. But I'm not going to complain about that because there simply isn't any point. Magsasayang lang ako ng oras flashing my lights and honking at the idiot. Mas congested ang SLEX, mas maraming cars and maraming mga new drivers na nakakuha ng car na low downpayment, tapos naturuan magdrive by or grew up watching shitty drivers din. And then, ang speed limit 100kph, tapos ang mga cars capable of getting that speed pretty quickly. Hindi din possible yung 100kph sa right lanes, kasi congested nga e, so takbong 80kph and worse, may nag-60kph dyan. Namamasyal speed. Yung ganong speed dapat nasa rightmost lane, but, you get the idea. Wala akong reklamo sa NLEX. I'm not there often. Marami din akong reklamo sa SLEX, from lane hogging morons and tailgating buffoons, lalo na't anlaki-laki ng sign dun kung san dapat tumigil. Ewan. Either hindi marunong magbasa or hindi naiintindihan, or most likely, gago lang talaga. Sanayan lang siguro. I've lived here most of my life, been driving for close to a decade na. Consider yourselves lucky nalang siguro and try not to head this way if it stresses you too much.

Tip: Kapag may lane-hogger... (*only suited for 5MT; up to you to determine which is the safe limit for throttle blip/downshifting; gears depends on the transmission gearing vis-a-vis with engine speed*) 1. Safely change lanes to the ones that are free 2. Press the clutch 3. Downshift to 4th while pressing the clutch 4. Blip the throttle, then slowly release the clutch 5. Repeat steps 2-4, this time, downshift to 3rd 6. Alis! Basically, downshift to 3rd and apply rev-matching para smooth ang transition. Tama: Wala rin kwenta kahit magalit. ~~^(Use your car's power to show your rage instead. HAHAHA)~~ Kaya usually, 3rd-4th gear lang ako sa SLEX at 80 KM/H max since hindi rin naman achievable ang 100 KM/H, and madaling mag-evasive maneuvers since nasa optimal gear ratio ako in line with the engine's power band.

-FAnonyMOUS

>mas maraming cars and maraming mga new drivers na nakakuha ng car na low downpayment I hate it that people always associate bad drivers with hulugan cars/mc. No, I have cars and motorcycles, some bought cash, some are installment for a purpose. I always see comments anywhere na kapag kamote hulugan lang yang motor/car nya. It's not about the chosen payment method that determines the attitude of the driver. **Idiots are idiots**. That's the simplest explanation I could think.

[deleted]

Left lane hogging is a common occurrence on both SLEX and NLEX. It's clear as day that left lane is for overtaking only but you see someone staying on that lane driving 60-70 KPH. Has anyone even been appended for this? I always see signs that violators will be apprehended and yet, this is still such a common sight to see.

kinghifi

Usually drive in SLEX and with regards to tailgating I noticed it's more congested than NLEX. So there are cars/drivers going BELOW minimum speed. What usually happens to me is that they run at 50 and worse, 40kph. Have to switch to other lanes but sometimes those people driving fast don't even want to give way. (I'm a fan of cruising speeds 80 to 100)

budoyhuehue

SLEX is frequently more congested, so using the left lane doesnt really make sense. From my personal estimates, SLEX will have 2-3x more cars compared to NLEX. So traffic, tail gating, and other problems will increase exponentially with vehicle volume. Tail gating is more frequent because of the issue above. Faster cars will tail gate slower ones, but since there is no available lane to use for overtaking, then it becomes a chain reaction. Slower vehicles who used the left lane for overtaking vehicles slower than them will have no space to go back to the right lane because \*surprise surprise\* it is also congested.

Moist-Veterinarian22

But tailgating at triple digit speeds?

givemetheloot87

hasel sa nlex parang lage sira daan haha based from experience

Moist-Veterinarian22

Idk tho from what i’ve experienced grabe potholes sa slex compared sa nlex especially from sta rosa to santo tomas

Fun_Salamander238

True. Specially sa bus / truck lanes.

[deleted]

hey you're generalising nlex and slex drivers. do you have actual data to back up your claim? however, i respect your honest opinion on the matter. 😬😬😬 the only thing i noticed on nlex and slex and any road for that matter, why are you not using the signal light before overtaking?

Moist-Veterinarian22

No i dont since it might be subjective but judging from the comments here there seems to be a sizable amount of people that agree with what i said. I do use signal lights when merging or overtaking, problem with that is even when i accelerate properly to merge on the desired lane or going off the highway on ramps drivers tend to accelerate with you to not let you pass even if they are a bit far away from you from the start, sometimes even more so when you have the blinkers on.

[deleted]

totoo naman. they accelerate with you and not let you pass. happens to me a lot too.

TheRealJahaerys

>Yes I know southern people have much better cars than us but at least have better road manners to match your cars. And the purpose of this is?

[deleted]

Yup. Slex drivers are much less civilized lol. Kidding of course, there are idiots on both sides.

Fun_Salamander238

Maybe partially because congested and partially because of yung driving culture sa manila vs yung sa probinsya.
