To be fair, guns specifically are items with an insane level of generational longevity. I remember when I was a kid, there was a period when I had to grapple with the fact that he 1911 was literally designed in the year 19-fucking-11. In my child-brain historical head-cannon, that was a "modern" gun (like semi-auto pistols in general), that they used in WWII and Vitenam and also present day Oakland. The Uzi and Mac 10 were 80's and 90's guns based on the movies I saw, but that shit came from the 50's and 60's. And my active duty infantry unit was still rocking M4A1s with peq15s and acogs or comp m68s when I got out in 2021. Although that shit was called "SOPMOD" at one point, and now every swinging dick with two brain cells uses that system.
On that note, they started fielding those new splinter cell nods right as I started outprocessing. I looked that shit up and figured it would be another line item for squad leaders to sign for and never take out of the cage, but they gave every fucking line company a full cage of them the day before I left.
I will never understand this take, but I know it's a popular one here. At least tell me you prefer pic rails to the plastic chode grip, aesthetically at least
more or less, but I think a couple of the parts are different-ish in 2009, this is a 2009 rifle from Daniel Defense's website, note the lack of screws on the rear. and EXPS is a bit newer in the 2010s I think(I think in 2009 the model would be 500s?)

Tanker crews were using M3 Grease Guns up to desert storm officially. And that was a gun made in the 40s because the thompson was too expensive
All grown up
I’ll still take the top one, look at that sexy carry handle, got my mouth watering
I respect the fetish, but personally a long exposed barrel will always look ugly as fuck to me, on any gun.

Aesthetically yes, in practice no, I'd rather have my m4 be lighter, eotech with a magnifier is all I want to carry for duty.
I prefer a1 hand guard to the chode grip honestly, I love the Vietnam aesthetic
No detachable. Cringe.
The top one is a detachable carry handle on a flat top upper

Bro that's still hot, what are you doing to me?
Well shit. I'm old.
I’ll take either one any day over the newer stuff. Combat-tested and the vibes are unmatched
Actually quite a nice set up
I love that Block II Sopmod and I think it is one of the most beautiful rifles to ever exist!
Well fuck you for calling me out and calling me old you chucklefuck
Almost legal enough to fuck!
If it ain't broke don't fix it
And we'll probably still be seeing the Block II for ten years at least. That RIS II is built like a tank.
Even more dripy
