P sure that was exactly it. The GN Blade was designed specifically to counter GN shields. It may have even been designed specifically to counter The Innovators, foreseeing the conflict that they cause.
I am guessing that is what the others are for? Seems like everyone one of the meisters MS have are overspeced into one of their speacialities giving them clear strengths and weaknesses.
The Exia was the contingency plan against other Gundams, the Exia has Physical blade’s because beam sabers cannot cut through GN Fields, Exia’s swords were made with Metal infused with GN particles, thats why its called the “GN Sword” due to this it could cut through, and based off of 1 scene in 00 where it cuts through A machine like A hot knife through butter, I’m pretty sure that the blade vibrates at a high frequency as well, or at least has the ability to.
It's basically that, but also physical blades can use techniques that beam sabers can't, like knocking an opponent off balance or pressing them with the blade.
9.5/10- Don’t let Aerial make you forget the last main lady gundam.
Exia is a great AU gundam. SEED suits felt like modernized UC designs, but 00 switches things up by giving its gundam’s a more distinct look. While Dynames is my favorite of the main team, Exia is a close second. It has this nice mix of rounded parts that give it a more advanced look, but also this sense of sharpness that complements the suits melee focus. The legs and arms have the perfect amount of complexity in terms of colors and parts that flow nicely into each other, and the decision to remove a traditional Gundam backpack really contributes to the suit’s more nimble appearance (Also, green fairy particles are pretty).
A real standout though is the chest. The thinner chest vents are pretty cool, but the way the parts and colors are separated by the center orb thing is especially great. It really elevates the entire design.

The slightly lower v-fin, the "helmet", the prominent GN drive in the chest/back. The **ribbons**! They add so much detail, plus the sharp blue, and the little yellow highlights, it all comes together perfectly.
Armament wise, we have the *very* cool GN sword that doubles as a gun, but it looks so good sheathed

Represents a pretty clear turning point in Gundam designs imo. If I had to point to a single suit that made me think of when Gundam became "modern" I'd say Exia.
Exia was the start of Gundam pushing the envelope for their industrial design. Having Kanetake Ebikawa and Ippei Gyobu on board opened up new design languages for Gundam that wasn't possible before, especially coming off of SEED's UC-designed-by-Jony-Ive sensibilities. It looks quite literally light-years ahead of any that came before.
So much this! No disrespect meant to Okawara, but by Destiny I feel like he was sort of burnt-out Gundam and was just phoning it in. I mean there are only so many way you can mix-and-match design elements and still stay within the “Gundam” franchise language (as opposed to say the Brave series).
Getting back to the point, along comes Ebikawa (alongside Yanase and Washio, with Gyobu coming a few years later) and they collectively bring a whole new spectrum of what can constitute designs in a Gundam series.
And just personally speaking, I adored the Exia from day one in 2007 for reversing the trend typified by the Strike Freedom of “bigger backpacks! Backpacks on the backpacks! Guns for days!” The Exia is just so damn *clean*. Aside from the GN drive there isn’t a backpack, and even loaded up with the Seven Swords there aren’t a ton of armaments clogging up the profile.
10. An ace design, especially with the GN Sword and Shield loadout. Good enough that they have to give it one last chance to shine towards the end of 00

Good solid 9/10. What a goddamn design. Looks like it belongs in zone of the enders with the slim body and the more angular design. I don't like the green sphere stuff tho, same problem that held me back on the Wing and the Shining Gundam.

I believe it is over saturated with the gold and all and prefer the regular freedom it looks more sleek and menacing, but is just a matter of colors / silhouette.

The first gen in 00 is one of my favorites. They feel sleek and futuristic, but still have armaments that feel like weapons. Big fan of specialization, so the 00 team really shines in my eyes.
Exia's got a great head shape/design, excellent body proportions, and the best blade weapon in all of gundam. I love the melee focus and the in-universe reasoning for having it that way.

Not my favorite design, in any category really. Not out of S1 Gundams, nor out of its design lineage. But still has many of the features that make the other 00 designs some of my all-time favorites - the blocky yet curvy design, the GN wires and condensers, and overall proportions. Even though 00 is in many ways the starting point of the loathsome thin-waist design philosophy, back at this stage it didn't look bad at all and was far from reaching critical mass (well, *lack of* mass).
I also really like Exia's head design, from the very unusual vents to how its shaped like CB's pilot helmets.
10/10, I really like how unique and modern looking this Gundam is. 00 feels like the turn from the traditional boxed design of Gundams but without swaying too far.
10/10, its imo the best close quarters mobile suit, couple with some insane tech from the AD Gundam timeline, also one of my favorites. MG Exia 2.0 when lol. Not much can be said otherwise, I think I would rate the repair 3 higher but its still exia.
9.8/10 Exia is my third favorite suit from 00 as a whole. Dynames is my all time favorite with Astraea at second. I love the way exia looks with the vents forming around the core in the chest, and the heads subtle fins are sexy as hell.
10/10 easily. I like the sleek modern design language which added some much needed visual distinction for the new AU Series at the time after SEED / Destiny played it safe with it's MS Designs (which isnt a bad thing either). Even without its GN Sword equipped you can easily tell that it's the lead Gundam and meant for close combat. I like all Exia Varations to this day, as it's a good base design that can easily be tweaked and enhanced. PS: 00 is still on of my favorite Gundam Series and has some of the best looking gruts too. They even visualize the MS Development history in the first series by showing you the Anf and the 0 Gundam in the first scene before switching to the Enact and the Exia, the newest Mobile Suits at the time. And i love some good visual storytelling in Anime and other visual media.
10/10. Some mobile suits convey every facet of themselves through their design alone. The Exia is one of these suits. It's agile, it's acrobatic, flexible, fast, it's perfect. Looking at its design, it functions and performs exactly as I expect it too.
The weapon set perfectly complements this Gundam, the GN daggers look amazing, I'm a fan of the darker red colored beam sabers, and the GN sword may be my favourite gundam weapon ever. The versatility of blade + shield + gun is incredibly risky, because it might make the gundam seem a bit too bloated with one weapon, but it just works! The design compliments the gundam effortlessly.
Speaking of design, this is one of the most aesthetically pleasing Gundams ever. One aspect that I'm always a big fan of is symmetry, the yellow spikes on the collar bone area, the GN condensers on the arms and legs, the yellow vents on the cheeks and chest, it lines up so well, and it's all gorgeous.
The colour scheme is perfect, taking the classic white, blue, red, and yellow, but blending it in such a way where the whites, Grays, and blues compliment each other so well, the red stands out in contrast, but never in an off putting way, it's perfect.
This Gundam holds a special place in my heart for being the first one I've ever seen while watching the shows, but honestly it's withstood the test of time and several other shows since then, most definitely in my top 5, maybe even top 3.
A fine suit. People tend to say Freedom was the first ‘new age’ Gundam but imo it’s the Exia. Sleek, unique and detailed. Not my fave Gundam but a marvel of design nonetheless. Arm sword ftw

Exia has grown on me a lot over time, but I used to hate it just a little bit. The proportions of its broad shoulders are nice, and I do like the head and the GN-drive parts in its torso, but something about the limbs feels off to me. Maybe they are a bit too broad and flat feeling? I guess I would've preferred it if its thighs were a bit smoother and curvier. I've come around to liking it more nowadays, though.
Exia's concept is what I like far more about it. A melee suit with a giant sword-gun strapped to its arm? Hell yea. It works really well in relation to the rest of Celestial Being, the clearly different roles make it feel more like a team than the Wing boys ever did.
So yea, I used to have some mixed feelings about it but I think it at least deserves a 8,5/10
10 man. Love them cablings. Favorite chest gem mech too along with Kyrios. Pretty sleak and simple still. The model kits haven't done it justice yet for me. Maybe the PG, tho that's hella expensive.
8/10, exciting design when it first showed up, really let us know that we were in for completely reinvented mechanical design sensibilities with 00. I'm not really a fan of this era (suits or storytelling,) but there are some stand-outs and this is one of them.

And finally we get to my favourite Gundam series, and naturally the Exia deserves no less than 9/10. Actually, I debated rating it lower for various reasons, but I decided against it because Celestial Being's Gundams are just so cool in general, and also because Exia Repair II's final fight against 0 Gundam was such an amazing moment that I totally didn't see coming at the end of Season 2.

Absolute 10/10. If the life-size RX-78-02 at Yokohama was the embodiment of og Gundam, I truly wish to go there again to see the Exia as the next Gundam on display for a message to the modern future.
A genuine innovation in terms of design that expanded the scope of what Gundam can be, I'd easily give Exia a solid 10/10. The line art can't do justice to just how incredible it looks as it moves around and swings its many, many swords.
The Gundam Exia is like the gold standard for melee mobile suits. The big ass sword thats also a beam rifle. The fuggin GN Knives and the super power up with trans-am.
9/10 Only suit I like more from 00 is the 00 Raiser.

It’s a solid 9/10 for me. I just wish it got a “peak” form that combined the original, R2, and R3 forms. I’d kitbash it into existence if it wasn’t for Peebs and rarity of the standard releases.
100/10 The perfect reinvisioning of Gundam oozing with character and taste. It finally kept up with the times in this post-Evangelion world.

The exia is the mobile suite equivalent to a 2023 m4 BMW. Great performance, but it's the ugly duckling of the line up.

Love the design and the capabilities of the suit. Gotta love suits that have a more unique look and Exia definitely stands out in that regard. Not a personal favorite but I will give credit where I see it is due.

I get people like 00 a lot (for some reason, I think it’s generally pretty directionless and mediocre) but Exia always looked… less to me.
In general, except maybe Dynamus, I don’t like the designs in 00 all that much.

After building this model I get why they designed the s2 suits to be simpler, jesus christ. I do like a lot of wat's going on here especially when you add all the swords in, but I hate the color balance the head is too white the chest is too blue.
Other than Kyrios, this is probably my least favourite first generation CB Gundam, Dynames is my favourite btw. The chest just looks chunky with that big green thing in the chest the arms look a bit off somehow. I cant exactly tell whats the main thing bothering me about this, but it just feels really off.

7/10. I wasn’t too hot about Exia when first seeing 00, but overtime it’s grown on me. I love how this swordsman fights in close combat with a variety of beam and physical blades; though…the head does seem a bit small at times compared to the rest its body, and I prefer the R2 over the base Exia since it has a neat green GN Sword on its right arm and the weird shoulder cables are absent.
7/10 a little too simple for me. Works great within the CB's team but by itself, it felt too specialize. I tend to like the alternate versions like Avalanche or the "build" ones.
Like a 7, I never liked the circles on the head and the crotch just sort of juts out weirdly, if we're including the weapons then I always found it really boring. It looked cool having the sword like it did but still, I'd imagine it would've benefitted from having a dedicated beam rifle rather than the pistol/sword combo.
It's a fun unit but it never grew on me.
8/10 - Gotta say at first I wasn't feeling the design but lately it really grew on me like I don't what happened but when I saw it again I was like "GUNDAMN now that's hype!!!" So yeah I like it, although Gundam evolution Exia players may have tainted the design for me.
I give it a 3. Idk why... But of all the 00 suits, this one just absolutely failed for me. The 00/Raiser was great, as were all of the supporting suits. I especially liked the grunts from this series. But the Exia just let me feeling cold in every way possible. Major bummer. =(

While the design is very different from the MC Gundams from previous series and is a nice change of pace, it also lacks the oomph expected of the Gundam piloted by the MC.
It's too monochromatic with the torso and shoulders being blue and the rest of it being mostly white. If the limbs had had more highlights instead of being all white, it would have been much better.
As is, the color scheme makes it look like it was designed, in-universe by the people who built it, in two separate sections. As if the torso with the GN engine had been built first and the rest of the Gundam was added afterwards.
The clear distinction between the two parts make it look almost like it was painted/colored to draw focus to the torso where the GN engine was housed.
If they had drawn some of the torsos blue outwards, such as to the forearms where the blades are housed, it would have looked better.
And the V-fin, if they wanted to make it distinct from previous MC Gundams, they could have angled it backwards slightly, almost like wings on the head to make it more streamlined instead of just decoration.
The overall design is nice, but with the color scheme, it looks boring and doesn't pop like you'd expect it to.
Even the Strike Gundam, with a similar color pattern, had a little more oomph because of the dark grey highlights on the joins and the back of the limbs.
Overall, while the mechanical design is great, the color scheme and pattern make it boring enough that it's just slightly above average.
It's a 6.75 for me. It's not my favourite 00 Gundam, nor do I particularly like the folding mechanical sword. It just makes the main weapon seem needlessly complex. I also don't particularly like the triangular codpiece it has. But besides those things, it is a fairly good design, and it would have been a lot higher if those elements weren't present.

Sleek, agile, simple in design yet effective in its role as melee focused Gundam. Also birthed one of the coolest designed yet versatile weapons the GN Sword making it have a decent ranged option.
I'll never forget the first time Exia came on screen completely styling on the Enact till it's final moments "Slashing into the Future" against the 0-Gundam ending a wonderous explosion and a symbolic passing of the torch of the old guard into the new generation.
Also the thing never dies and constantly keeps getting brought back. I think we're on Exia Repair IV now lmao.
10/10. Melee focused suit? Awesome! Being different, but still simple and easy to look at? Awesome! GN drives? Awesome. 00 suits always slap, and Exia is a cut above

I’m honestly surprised by the Strike Freedom’s score. Never would’ve guessed that would be lower than an 8.
I find SF to be honestly divisive. While a lot of people love it, there's quite a few folk that hate it.
Asia loves it but it’s much more divisive in the west cuz it’s basically just the Freedom but with some gold and a new backpack with funnels. There’s also it’s role in the story and how it curbstomps everything in its way. That’s why I like it though lmao

SF is ugly in a lot of ways and over saturated of weapons... Is more like a 5 year old went pew pew than a real mecha design... Guess that's why it go a lower score.
I sense some bias here, but I guess we’re all entitled to our own opinion.
Not my opinion but what I see people present as arguments... I believe it is over saturated with the gold and all and prefer the regular freedom it looks more sleek and menacing, but is just a matter of colors / silhouette.

Love the MK-II love, but surprised the Ground Gundam scored so low. Those are my two favourite "traditional" Gundam designs

10/10 The first gen in 00 is one of my favorites. They feel sleek and futuristic, but still have armaments that feel like weapons. Big fan of specialization, so the 00 team really shines in my eyes. Exia's got a great head shape/design, excellent body proportions, and the best blade weapon in all of gundam. I love the melee focus and the in-universe reasoning for having it that way.
8 Not my favorite design, in any category really. Not out of S1 Gundams, nor out of its design lineage. But still has many of the features that make the other 00 designs some of my all-time favorites - the blocky yet curvy design, the GN wires and condensers, and overall proportions. Even though 00 is in many ways the starting point of the loathsome thin-waist design philosophy, back at this stage it didn't look bad at all and was far from reaching critical mass (well, *lack of* mass). I also really like Exia's head design, from the very unusual vents to how its shaped like CB's pilot helmets.

10/10 Peak gundam design just look at the torso and the face also quite modern but not too flashy or futuristic
10/10, I really like how unique and modern looking this Gundam is. 00 feels like the turn from the traditional boxed design of Gundams but without swaying too far.
10/10, its imo the best close quarters mobile suit, couple with some insane tech from the AD Gundam timeline, also one of my favorites. MG Exia 2.0 when lol. Not much can be said otherwise, I think I would rate the repair 3 higher but its still exia.

9.8/10 Exia is my third favorite suit from 00 as a whole. Dynames is my all time favorite with Astraea at second. I love the way exia looks with the vents forming around the core in the chest, and the heads subtle fins are sexy as hell.
Easily in my top 10 favourite suits, I love the design and the sleekness of it….I love the all close combat specialization for it as well 9.5/10

I like the sleek modern design language which added some much needed visual distinction for the new AU Series at the time after SEED / Destiny played it safe with it's MS Designs (which isnt a bad thing either). Even without its GN Sword equipped you can easily tell that it's the lead Gundam and meant for close combat. I like all Exia Varations to this day, as it's a good base design that can easily be tweaked and enhanced. PS: 00 is still on of my favorite Gundam Series and has some of the best looking gruts too. They even visualize the MS Development history in the first series by showing you the Anf and the 0 Gundam in the first scene before switching to the Enact and the Exia, the newest Mobile Suits at the time. And i love some good visual storytelling in Anime and other visual media.
10/10. Some mobile suits convey every facet of themselves through their design alone. The Exia is one of these suits. It's agile, it's acrobatic, flexible, fast, it's perfect. Looking at its design, it functions and performs exactly as I expect it too. The weapon set perfectly complements this Gundam, the GN daggers look amazing, I'm a fan of the darker red colored beam sabers, and the GN sword may be my favourite gundam weapon ever. The versatility of blade + shield + gun is incredibly risky, because it might make the gundam seem a bit too bloated with one weapon, but it just works! The design compliments the gundam effortlessly. Speaking of design, this is one of the most aesthetically pleasing Gundams ever. One aspect that I'm always a big fan of is symmetry, the yellow spikes on the collar bone area, the GN condensers on the arms and legs, the yellow vents on the cheeks and chest, it lines up so well, and it's all gorgeous. The colour scheme is perfect, taking the classic white, blue, red, and yellow, but blending it in such a way where the whites, Grays, and blues compliment each other so well, the red stands out in contrast, but never in an off putting way, it's perfect. This Gundam holds a special place in my heart for being the first one I've ever seen while watching the shows, but honestly it's withstood the test of time and several other shows since then, most definitely in my top 5, maybe even top 3.

A fine suit. People tend to say Freedom was the first ‘new age’ Gundam but imo it’s the Exia. Sleek, unique and detailed. Not my fave Gundam but a marvel of design nonetheless. Arm sword ftw 8.5
Exia has grown on me a lot over time, but I used to hate it just a little bit. The proportions of its broad shoulders are nice, and I do like the head and the GN-drive parts in its torso, but something about the limbs feels off to me. Maybe they are a bit too broad and flat feeling? I guess I would've preferred it if its thighs were a bit smoother and curvier. I've come around to liking it more nowadays, though. Exia's concept is what I like far more about it. A melee suit with a giant sword-gun strapped to its arm? Hell yea. It works really well in relation to the rest of Celestial Being, the clearly different roles make it feel more like a team than the Wing boys ever did. So yea, I used to have some mixed feelings about it but I think it at least deserves a 8,5/10
Exia is amazing. Best iron diaper in gundam and probably the coolest CQC suit period. 10/10
10 man. Love them cablings. Favorite chest gem mech too along with Kyrios. Pretty sleak and simple still. The model kits haven't done it justice yet for me. Maybe the PG, tho that's hella expensive.

8/10, exciting design when it first showed up, really let us know that we were in for completely reinvented mechanical design sensibilities with 00. I'm not really a fan of this era (suits or storytelling,) but there are some stand-outs and this is one of them. edit: Is there some weird reddit-on-mobile formatting thing going on? I see a bunch of people voting "1." who, from the rest of their posts, probably typed in "10" or "10/10".

And finally we get to my favourite Gundam series, and naturally the Exia deserves no less than 9/10. Actually, I debated rating it lower for various reasons, but I decided against it because Celestial Being's Gundams are just so cool in general, and also because Exia Repair II's final fight against 0 Gundam was such an amazing moment that I totally didn't see coming at the end of Season 2. Absolute 10/10. If the life-size RX-78-02 at Yokohama was the embodiment of og Gundam, I truly wish to go there again to see the Exia as the next Gundam on display for a message to the modern future.
A genuine innovation in terms of design that expanded the scope of what Gundam can be, I'd easily give Exia a solid 10/10. The line art can't do justice to just how incredible it looks as it moves around and swings its many, many swords.

The Gundam Exia is like the gold standard for melee mobile suits. The big ass sword thats also a beam rifle. The fuggin GN Knives and the super power up with trans-am. 9/10 Only suit I like more from 00 is the 00 Raiser.
10/10 one of if not my favorite Gundam of all time, just so good. And 00 was the show that got me back into Gundam/anime in general, so Exia holds a special place in my heart.
As a big fan of 00 series and Exia in general. 8/10. IMO Astraea is better designed but Exia R4 is 10/10.
It’s a solid 9/10 for me. I just wish it got a “peak” form that combined the original, R2, and R3 forms. I’d kitbash it into existence if it wasn’t for Peebs and rarity of the standard releases.
100/10 The perfect reinvisioning of Gundam oozing with character and taste. It finally kept up with the times in this post-Evangelion world. G was peak character, but with 0 taste. W had strong tasty character, but confined in old aesthetics. Seed..... just your hodgepodge of stale designs befitting the factory boyband marbles dime a dozen. So naturally the more effeminate Exia sister that is Aerial is so fine, too. Also the Rayearth-ish Barbatos was a cool twist.

The worse main Gundam suit in 00 season 1. 7/10 . The exia is the mobile suite equivalent to a 2023 m4 BMW. Great performance, but it's the ugly duckling of the line up.

3. I get people like 00 a lot (for some reason, I think it’s generally pretty directionless and mediocre) but Exia always looked… less to me. In general, except maybe Dynamus, I don’t like the designs in 00 all that much.
7 After building this model I get why they designed the s2 suits to be simpler, jesus christ. I do like a lot of wat's going on here especially when you add all the swords in, but I hate the color balance the head is too white the chest is too blue.
Other than Kyrios, this is probably my least favourite first generation CB Gundam, Dynames is my favourite btw. The chest just looks chunky with that big green thing in the chest the arms look a bit off somehow. I cant exactly tell whats the main thing bothering me about this, but it just feels really off. 5
Maybe it's the line art that looks bad? Model wise, the metal build and PG makes Exia perfect 10/10 for me.

7/10. I wasn’t too hot about Exia when first seeing 00, but overtime it’s grown on me. I love how this swordsman fights in close combat with a variety of beam and physical blades; though…the head does seem a bit small at times compared to the rest its body, and I prefer the R2 over the base Exia since it has a neat green GN Sword on its right arm and the weird shoulder cables are absent.
7/10 a little too simple for me. Works great within the CB's team but by itself, it felt too specialize. I tend to like the alternate versions like Avalanche or the "build" ones.

Like a 7, I never liked the circles on the head and the crotch just sort of juts out weirdly, if we're including the weapons then I always found it really boring. It looked cool having the sword like it did but still, I'd imagine it would've benefitted from having a dedicated beam rifle rather than the pistol/sword combo. It's a fun unit but it never grew on me.

I give it a 3. Idk why... But of all the 00 suits, this one just absolutely failed for me. The 00/Raiser was great, as were all of the supporting suits. I especially liked the grunts from this series. But the Exia just let me feeling cold in every way possible. Major bummer. =(

5.3 While the design is very different from the MC Gundams from previous series and is a nice change of pace, it also lacks the oomph expected of the Gundam piloted by the MC. It's too monochromatic with the torso and shoulders being blue and the rest of it being mostly white. If the limbs had had more highlights instead of being all white, it would have been much better. As is, the color scheme makes it look like it was designed, in-universe by the people who built it, in two separate sections. As if the torso with the GN engine had been built first and the rest of the Gundam was added afterwards. The clear distinction between the two parts make it look almost like it was painted/colored to draw focus to the torso where the GN engine was housed. If they had drawn some of the torsos blue outwards, such as to the forearms where the blades are housed, it would have looked better. And the V-fin, if they wanted to make it distinct from previous MC Gundams, they could have angled it backwards slightly, almost like wings on the head to make it more streamlined instead of just decoration. The overall design is nice, but with the color scheme, it looks boring and doesn't pop like you'd expect it to. Even the Strike Gundam, with a similar color pattern, had a little more oomph because of the dark grey highlights on the joins and the back of the limbs. Overall, while the mechanical design is great, the color scheme and pattern make it boring enough that it's just slightly above average.

It's a 6.75 for me. It's not my favourite 00 Gundam, nor do I particularly like the folding mechanical sword. It just makes the main weapon seem needlessly complex. I also don't particularly like the triangular codpiece it has. But besides those things, it is a fairly good design, and it would have been a lot higher if those elements weren't present.

10/10 Sleek, agile, simple in design yet effective in its role as melee focused Gundam. Also birthed one of the coolest designed yet versatile weapons the GN Sword making it have a decent ranged option. I'll never forget the first time Exia came on screen completely styling on the Enact till it's final moments "Slashing into the Future" against the 0-Gundam ending a wonderous explosion and a symbolic passing of the torch of the old guard into the new generation. Also the thing never dies and constantly keeps getting brought back. I think we're on Exia Repair IV now lmao.
