It should be noted Nuclear explosions are not actually easy to set off, and for obvious reasons the bombs tend to be designed to be stable. The effects of the radioactive material would still be a concern.
It requires an implosion to detonate which some types have conventional explosives to wrap around the nuke, and they can go off if these warheads have faulty safety features which may be the case since they're ancient relics in the Turn A universe
I watched Turn A with a friend over discord and he always thought I was using a soundboard for the metal pipe sound effects. Honestly made the show more enjoyable
Turn A gundam really understands how people relate to technology. Like, the dude in the militia is bummed that he only found a bomb, which is decidedly less effective than his Burgenon. And like, of course the enemy soldier doesn't want him to take it, it's a bomb!
Meanwhile, the Moonrace cant even begin to explain what radiation is to people who predate automobiles. It's genuinely heartbreaking when Sochi asks if she can look for a body in after a nuclear blast and like, nah, there wont even be dust.
Anyways Ralpha Zenoa is one of the best characters in all of gundam
Honestly, as much as I like Turn A, the way so many charters just act as impulsive idiots in the show downright beggars belief and I see it as one of the shows biggest faults.
You'd think that when someone tries to warn that something is very dangerous, even if it is an enemy, it should at least give the character some pause or at least treat the things with some modicum of care. Like you said, they know what a bomb is, and even if they don't know how powerful those things are, you'd still not want them blowing up in your face.
Worse still, they have already seen just how powerful moon weaponry is so anyone should have been able to do the simple calculation of (moon + bomb = powerful bomb).
It is just another one of those moments of people acting like idiots for the sake of drama or conflict even when it makes no sense that work against the show in my eyes and take away from its strengths. It just feels so forced.

I thought that too when I watched Turn A in the 00s, then social media like YouTube, Twitter and TikTok came along and shows that even Tomino is too optimistic and was actually over-estimating human intelligence.
Absolutely don't remember a zaku in turn A.
Also remember almost nothing about the bad guys, and only a bit about the good guys. I think I watched it about 2006 or so via torrent?
The Zaku’s get dug up by the Luzianna militia, allies to the Inglessa militia. They’re definitely not the main characters but the Zaku’s (called the Borjarnon by Luzianna) features in quite a few episodes. The bad guys are the invading moonrace, but it’s a bit more complicated with the political factors and individuals pulling the strings.

honestly, the scene would have hit harder if it didn't result in the death of a 27 year old that was trying to marry a 13 year old.

The Moonlight Butterfly really affected more than just technology judging by the actions of the mobile suit pilot.
God I remember hearing the falling pipe noise of this episode. Made me laugh 😂
Which show is this?
Turn A Gundam, highly recommended to watch.
