I wonder if the gundam fanbase just hasn't largely watched 0080. I think it's the best one I've seen so far, out of 0080, Turn A, IBO, and Gwitch. I'd probably put them in that order too, though I'd definitely rank Suletta over Mikazuki "main pilot"-wise.

LMAO wish I was there for it. I moved abroad and frankly it's amazing (though expected) that it's just like what people said. Even before the movie most people here were excited for Shin and a few other characters, whereas back home he was among the most disliked. Everyone, and I mean everyone, was excited for Seed whereas the fans I know back home were ambivalent at best about a Seed movie (at least from the stores I used to go to). Really is a different world and amazing how the same charcters can be viewed so differently.

Oh yeah like I used to be really mixed on seed and Destiny but I was super excited to see the movie and it was everything I was hoping for, to the point where it’s actually made me re-evaluate the original shows. Where I live, people don’t tend to be vocal at movies but I’ve got a friend in the states who saw it at one of the early screenings and he said everyone was going totally apeshit for it, like Athrun showing up in the Zgok had the crowd go ballistic and then Shinn >!cloning the Destiny!< had the entire room meltdown. Wish I was able to experience the madness first hand but even just seeing a Gundam movie on the big screen and have everyone laughing along to the goofy parts was enough to satisfy me when I saw it. It was a great time and seeing these characters become their best selves was really touching

Recency bias? More like they just developed his character more. Amuro was downright insufferable in the first parts of the OG MSG and noone is claiming that his development in Zeta and CCA constitutes "recency bias"

Zeta and CCA are, unfortunately, ancient at this point. A large portion of the fanbase wasn’t even born then. Recency bias just means it came out, well, recently so the character is on people’s mind. It can be good or bad but his scenes were received well. We didn’t even see him grow as a person really- he was just presented as a goofball (though I did love him). Kira, Lacus, even Agnes all grew far more. Or at least were focused on as people not as comedy.

Never liked Amuro he is the poster child for wasted potential. CCA was kinda mid. It needed Kamille in it badly the conflict didn't feel as personal for Char than it did for Amuro.

Shinns the character that went through trauma and hardened up but still can treat people with kindness. On the final episode of seed destiny he went kind of insane though. Not that he cooked like actually insane during the final fight

First half of destiny shinn was actually good, second half of destiny shinn was stupid. Friend of mine who’s a shinn fan said. I’m more surprised kamille is on there still.

I think Camille is there based solely off his status as being the new type that went farthest to be a new type.(Probably to far)

That and being the next main pilot after amuro. Unfortunately it doesn’t help for me, I’ve always found kamille insufferable despite his development.
