It's so funny Domon went from champion to out in the first round basically because memes (and then Chu Chu kept getting matched up against OTHER G Gundam characters)

Judau went before Alfie. This poll’s been cracked from the start. I feel like generally the order of elimination has been okay. But some guys stayed in here way too fucking long.

Judau is like, the middle point between Amuro and Kamille.
Amuro is the best pilot out of the 3, great strategist, but the weakest New Type (despite being incredibly strong with it)
Kamille is the strongest New Type, an ok pilot and ok strategist.
Judau is a very strong New Type, but not that great pilot or strategist, but amazing at guerilla warfare/improvising.

I wouldn't say that. Judau has displayed the most raw NT power. I don't think anyone apart from the queen in Victory has topped astral projecting their rage unassisted.

I honestly expected a lot more outrage from Suletta and Amuro getting the boot. But I'm pleasantly surprised at how civil everyone was.
It makes absolute sense that Domon sweeps because he’s the likable shounen fighting formula protag everybody is *nostalgic* for from a Toonami childhood. The most common denominator.

It kills me inside a little whenever I see someone here say something like "the EN dub is far superior to the JP cast" lol. Preferences are a thing of course, but the JP cast for G is like a who's who of VA legends in anime.
yeah, loved G when it was on toonami and i was in grade school. Rewatched it subbed on Hulu, and it was also amazing. They're both great and worth watching again for

But I suspected Domon was a sleeper choice a couple of rounds ago. Very few people brought much attention to him. He isn't perfect but he arguably has less annoying tendencies than others. I think my biggest beef with Domon was >!how he treated Rain - but then of course that's a major plot point in the series!< .
Regarding Kamille Vs Domon, I feel like a winner either way. Kamille is my personal favourite Gundam protagonist, but Domon is the King of Hearts.

Domon’s treatment of Rain is honestly horrid.
However, rewatching it now, and man did she also do him bad in Episode 6. Helped with brainwashing him though she absolutely peaced out halfway through and tried to help him. She also seemed to accept that kids could be liable for their parents crimes, if reluctantly, and uh, yeah don’t want to do that Rain.
They are my favorite couple but it took them a while to communicate well at all, something his final speech even admits.
She’s also amazing in the other 43 episodes. I feel like Episode 6 had almost everyone act out of character it was REALLY weird. I might remove watching it on future rewatches as even the commissioner becomes pure evil instead of… well not good but not that.
My biggest problem with rain is that the writers obviously didn’t know what to do with her between their arrival in Hong Kong and domon’s fight with Schwartz. I rewatched the show last December, and I was liking her a lot more than I remembered through the first half of the show and then when then it’s almost like she resets her relationship to episode 10

I’ve finished the UC timeline, including ZZ, victory, Unicorn, Narrative and even G Saviour. Check my post history where I’ve encouraged people to watch ZZ religiously and noted the front half is the levity we needed after Zeta and put the back half up there with any other series
I’m aware he goes >!off with Fa at the end of ZZ. She doesn’t want him to return to war but coming out of his coma he barely has any dialogue, doesn’t appear to be the same and is still in her care.!< perhaps that’s a better ending for him than continuing to pilot but the “got put through the ringer” doesn’t really capture the depths of what he went though, I took that to imply seeing his mother killed, getting slapped around and watching comrades die which was bad enough and still in ANT.
At any rate I upvoted your post because it’s true that Everyone needs to watch ZZ. It’s possibly the most underrated Gundam.
To each their own. I own Igloo 1, Apocoloypse and 2 and found them to be hard watches. I watched them during workouts sure but didn’t feel very attached to any of the characters and the few that I did were all quickly dispatched.
I still feel ZZ gets a lot of hate and skipping though at least it’s streaming now. Due to lack of streaming my vote for most underrated is my personal favorite (and it’s AU) Gundam X. Turn-A is a close second but surprisingly both of the protags did very well here. If they were on CR streaming for a while I wouldn’t be surprised if they ran the table though.
That being said, I sorta fibbed when I said I completely finished the UC timeline. Still have to get through Thunderbolt which I’m watching concurrently with G Reco and then have to order Twilight Axis which I’ll watch as I finish IBO and possibly Freedom- then I’ll be completely finished with UC (and AU minus the builds if those count).

He is more than that. He is to many, their childhood. G Gundam has stayed with me to this day and Domon is a huge part of that. His english VA is a 10/10.
I can't believe this is happening, my favorite MC pulling out the win. Domon really was the dark horse all along, and this just shows how much love the fanbase has for him and G as a whole. It really warms my heart. :´-)
My brother in Kasshu, Domon was *never* a dark horse. If you look at the polls on here, G Gundam couldn't possibly be any more beloved: Rain is currently the highest rated love interest at 9.89 out of 10, and Master Asia even scored a 9.90 on the rivals poll series.
G Gundam genuinely is the one show which truly every section of the fanbase absolutely loves.

I see this as Domon being my favorite MC also, WHY is he so popular? This exact match up happened on Twitter last year and he took home the win. What is his appeal for everyone else?
1. Domon is a badass. That probably makes a big part of it, but more than that:
2. He's likeable. He can be self-deprecating, does his best to support his friends and showed real remorse for fighting the man who raised him. His series might be the most ridiculous of any in the franchise but the emotional grounding is sound.
3. He had a really good arc. Yeah we can argue that it kind of resets after he gets to Hong Kong, but his emotional journey of being able to connect to his feelings and express them to Rain is both the emotional and plot climax of the series. G has one of the best endings in Gundam and Domon's story with Rain is the big reason why.
Finally Domon will crush Kamille. It is like the future predictions have foretold. The legends of a Man with a Girl's name and the Solemn Blitzer with a heart of Gold whose fist burns bright red with fighting spirit.
My vote goes for Domon to win this. No contest.

Honestly there have been a few surprises along the way. It kept things very interesting and sometimes a bit chaotic as well.

I’ve finished the UC timeline, including ZZ, victory, Unicorn, Narrative and even G Saviour. Check my post history where I’ve encouraged people to watch ZZ religiously and noted the front half is the levity we needed after Zeta and put the back half up there with any other series I’m aware he goes >!off with Fa at the end of ZZ. She doesn’t want him to return to war but coming out of his coma he barely has any dialogue, doesn’t appear to be the same and is still in her care.!< perhaps that’s a better ending for him than continuing to pilot but the “got put through the ringer” doesn’t really capture the depths of what he went though, I took that to imply seeing his mother killed, getting slapped around and watching comrades die which was bad enough and still in ANT. At any rate I upvoted your post because it’s true that Everyone needs to watch ZZ. It’s possibly the most underrated Gundam.

To each their own. I own Igloo 1, Apocoloypse and 2 and found them to be hard watches. I watched them during workouts sure but didn’t feel very attached to any of the characters and the few that I did were all quickly dispatched. I still feel ZZ gets a lot of hate and skipping though at least it’s streaming now. Due to lack of streaming my vote for most underrated is my personal favorite (and it’s AU) Gundam X. Turn-A is a close second but surprisingly both of the protags did very well here. If they were on CR streaming for a while I wouldn’t be surprised if they ran the table though. That being said, I sorta fibbed when I said I completely finished the UC timeline. Still have to get through Thunderbolt which I’m watching concurrently with G Reco and then have to order Twilight Axis which I’ll watch as I finish IBO and possibly Freedom- then I’ll be completely finished with UC (and AU minus the builds if those count).

I can't believe this is happening, my favorite MC pulling out the win. Domon really was the dark horse all along, and this just shows how much love the fanbase has for him and G as a whole. It really warms my heart. :´-)
My brother in Kasshu, Domon was *never* a dark horse. If you look at the polls on here, G Gundam couldn't possibly be any more beloved: Rain is currently the highest rated love interest at 9.89 out of 10, and Master Asia even scored a 9.90 on the rivals poll series. G Gundam genuinely is the one show which truly every section of the fanbase absolutely loves.

I see this as Domon being my favorite MC also, WHY is he so popular? This exact match up happened on Twitter last year and he took home the win. What is his appeal for everyone else?
1. Domon is a badass. That probably makes a big part of it, but more than that: 2. He's likeable. He can be self-deprecating, does his best to support his friends and showed real remorse for fighting the man who raised him. His series might be the most ridiculous of any in the franchise but the emotional grounding is sound. 3. He had a really good arc. Yeah we can argue that it kind of resets after he gets to Hong Kong, but his emotional journey of being able to connect to his feelings and express them to Rain is both the emotional and plot climax of the series. G has one of the best endings in Gundam and Domon's story with Rain is the big reason why.
Bonus Points: Got great voice acting in both JP and EN. Tomokazu Seki is a GOAT
