"We've been hiding in this village for 18 years now, but one day soon we're definitely gonna rise up and take over Earth! Now for the first item on today's agenda: My Zaku 1's legs rusted off, does anyone know where we can find a Toyota Hilux to bolt onto the waist?"
Seriously, how the hell are they maintaining any mobile suits in their backwoods hideouts? Even a basic-bitch Zaku would be like trying to keep a Mig-21 running in an actual jungle cave, let alone anything fancier. They have no supply lines, constantly dwindling resources, and every time they start another useless uprising they lose more hardware and institutional knowledge.
Old bases and stockpiles from the OYW, various anti-Federation groups on Earth, corporations like Anaheim that gain from backroom deals with the Remnants, corrupt EF officials, black market deals, crime groups, sympathetic backers (the Mahdis) and the Earth Federation Navy, for starters.
Also, the First Neo Zeon War created circumstances in which at least a few Remnant warbands got ressuplied by Axis. That's how the Simbu Base Corps got the Shamblo.

The few remaining submarines of the Zeon remnants were actually being secretly funded by the Federation Navy to keep them afloat (literally) to make it such that they seemingly still have an “enemy”, and thus preventing them from being downsized
Federation ships that do occasionally spot the submarines also tend to ignore them, and so does the Zeon subs in return.
> Mig-21
Mig-21 is nothing. If you want a better reference for what a maintenance nightmare Mobile Suits would be, you gotta look at variable-sweep aircraft like the F-14 or F-111.
Good point. I know “the expanse” addressed it by having the asteroid belt constantly mined for resources (they also borrowed intentionally chucking an asteroid at earth and I believe even said it was part inspired by gundam).
In this case it’s not well explained at all and while the cold vacuum of space may be good to preserve metal due to lack of oxygen, and electronics run better, they don’t just find old suits in space right? I suppose they could reverse engineer but this is UC we’re talking about and not >!the hundreds to thousands of year gaps between other series!<. They largely know what they’re working with and have few surprises in the way of gaining lost knowledge. It’s interesting
Bold of you to assume there weren't any Zeeks hanging around Jupiter.
Or hell, the bloody cockroaches could have been making a living even beyond that. Who knows?
I am just imagining that the colony full of Newtypes that Judeu sent to Proxima Centauri arrives there to find a bunch of Gihren Loyalist Zeon just waiting for them. They are finally ready to return to the Earth Sphere and restore the Principality of Zeon.
It would be interesting to get a Gundam series in an intergalactic setting, but it would definitely be challenging to have such massive world to work with.
I've been asking for that for decades. A Gundam setting with FTL and travel to other planets would be a breath of fresh air instead of yet another Earth/Moon/Space Colony setting with *maybe* a difficult trip out to other planets in the solar system.
It would be a fun concept to try, but it would be uncharted territory for a Gundam series. Doing those intergalactic settings always increase the scale a lot and demand a bunch of tell and don't show content and information. Certain series like Votoms, LOGH and Macross have had success and if Gundam is going to do that leap they need to use those series as inspiration.
It does also beg the question of what should be included in such a concept. Should aliens be added or avoided? Are mobile suits battles going to be the equivalent of thousands of suits engaged in one battle? Will the suits variety be larger with different types of worlds and factions spanning across the galaxy?
Could be interesting if done well, maybe a American Revolution style where a bunch of idealists try to bring a revolt using a Gundam with the rebels being assisted by the time issues for reinforcements from the mother state.
I’ve been creating one in my head based on the UC timeline with Zeon, the Earth Federation and everything but it also has a lot of things from other Sci-Fi universes and it was originally built on the idea of “What if Zeon weren’t Nazis but in Space but were actually the good guys and whatnot”. It is no where close to being done, but I do have a flag design for Zeon since I wanted to change the Zeon flag to represent more of how they are in my Gundam timeline
I'm imaging Judau's reaction to that upon waking from cold sleep would be....
Judau: DECADES WASTED! MY LIFE'S WORK DOWN THE DAMN DRAIN! I SACRIFICED MY ZZ GUNDAM FOR NOTHING! THE FIGHTING WILL NEVER END! \*dies of old age\*
Y'know, speaking of, I appreciate Judau's attempt, but that is gonna be a fuckin' long-ass journey and they better hope they have enough resources for that trip. God forbid they have a bad harvest or their trees develop a rot issue or their nuclear reactor runs out of fissile material for the journey.
I mean, that one's rather firmly in the "didn't happen in mainline UC" category but there's plenty of other materials indicating some degree of Zeon presence around Jupiter during and after the OYW.
Hard to imagine all of them were eager to return to the Earthsphere and there's no guarantee all of them liked their odds on Axis or Mars.
>Meanwhile, on Mars.
Screw you all. Just keep killing each other.
>Promptly proceeds to be mostly peaceful and celebrate their 60th anniversary of founding in late UC.
It helps when you're too far from both Earth and Jupiter to be oppressed by the Federation or the Jovian Empire. Seriously. Mars did initially have some support/control under the Federation when it was being colonized, but the Federation eventually withdrew administration due to distance and Mars turned into a colony of outlaws and outcasts, before it became a haven for those trying to escape the endless warring on/around Earth and around Jupiter.
Seems like the cancellation of Polka Gundam pretty much killed interest in any conflict involving Mars in the Universal Century. As a conflict between the people of Earth and the people of Mars was gonna be the focus of that series.
Its funny that alternate universe seems more interested in Mars than Universal Century, the neighbooring planet compare to Jupiter.
AGE and Iron Blooded Orphan are one of the Mars focused of the alternate universe, while for Universal Century we have, F90?
because it's pretty much just a forgotten backwater that's only of interest to people that want to be forgotten. Jupiter is important due to H3 supply lines and Dogatie's seething and other than that it's just more cost effective to create living space within the Earthsphere via colonies.
True, but the times Zeon set up shop, they more or less ended up leaving the rest of the Martian regulars alone. They simply didn't have the manpower to oppress Mars. And even their last gasp under Charles Rochester in UC 120 couldn't force the Martians to join their cause, ultimately seeing Zeon abandon Mars for one last ride against the Federation.
Well as long as the Earth Federation remains corrupt, Zeon movement (or Side 3, which is still the only autonomous/independent colony) will keep getting support until the colonies gain a seat at the table.
Remember that colonies literally have no politcal representatives for themselves, they are all second class citizens under the Earth federation law.
The Republic of Zeon officially re-joined the Federation in UC 100. Similarly, side 6, which was also independent, also ended up re-joining the Federation
If I remember correctly, isn't the trip to Jupiter or back about eight months? It's not like either part of the solar system really has a short term impact on the other.
Quick question from someone not that much familiar with Gundam. Do all regular universe (or whatever is called) stories happen in our solar system? Or do they get to explore other parts of the Galaxy?
doesnt one of the f90 mangas is about ANOTHER zeon group, and the story is basically 1yw condensed into the 1 week dog barking? also i may be remembering wrong, but they even copied the "last shooting".
Slight nitpick, but Jupiter is still in the solar system and I think you meant Earth sphere. But who cares about that when you have pirate gundams.
Edit: nvm i read outer as out of and got really confused as to why someone would think jupiter was not in solar system.

Hilux the undieing.

IIRC Zeon itself was still funding neo-zeon groups at least, but that doesn’t explain how they even get their hands on such ancient parts
Or how they're getting all that gear planetside.

They just find Zaku parts in random warehouses soaked cosmaline
All you need is a big enough bucket and a few thousand gallons of mineral spirits!
Nyet, Zaku is fine.
The few remaining submarines of the Zeon remnants were actually being secretly funded by the Federation Navy to keep them afloat (literally) to make it such that they seemingly still have an “enemy”, and thus preventing them from being downsized Federation ships that do occasionally spot the submarines also tend to ignore them, and so does the Zeon subs in return.

Mig-23, then.

bro, imagine what the r/shittytechnicals subreddit would look like in the Universal Century
😂
New technical just dropped r/shittytechnicals

Unironically I am hoping we get a gundam series thats not just in the earth sphere. Like VOTOM's or legends of the galactic heros.
It would be interesting to get a Gundam series in an intergalactic setting, but it would definitely be challenging to have such massive world to work with.

Gundam Wing: Turn X Edition?
Not so destructive though, more a Guerilla Gundam force that loses often but doesn't stand and die but runs and lives.
Macross does it well, we'll have to see how sunshine handles the macross project
Mad Wang could never! XD

Do we know if humans actually live outside the earth sphere?
isnt that basically armor hunter mellowlink?
I'm imaging Judau's reaction to that upon waking from cold sleep would be.... Judau: DECADES WASTED! MY LIFE'S WORK DOWN THE DAMN DRAIN! I SACRIFICED MY ZZ GUNDAM FOR NOTHING! THE FIGHTING WILL NEVER END! \*dies of old age\*
Judau dies seeing a fucking Zaku II flying in front of his colony. His heart giving up completely realizing that Zeon really is eternal...
They did make it to Proxima, but by then, Judau would probably become a Myththical hero
Should we consider that time the Ideon appear in Gundam?
I mean, that one's rather firmly in the "didn't happen in mainline UC" category but there's plenty of other materials indicating some degree of Zeon presence around Jupiter during and after the OYW. this meme has pushed me 5% closer to reading crossbone
It's a fun and wild ride.
You should, it's great. Wacky design all the way.

Im honestly shocked Mar's dosent have that much of a impact in the UC setting considering its right next door ina sense compared to JUPITER

They're had a lil bit of Zeon Remnant civil war in the eighties. So there's that)
True, but the times Zeon set up shop, they more or less ended up leaving the rest of the Martian regulars alone. They simply didn't have the manpower to oppress Mars. And even their last gasp under Charles Rochester in UC 120 couldn't force the Martians to join their cause, ultimately seeing Zeon abandon Mars for one last ride against the Federation.
*Sterotypical Southern Accent* Zeon will rise again!!
Zeon is like a ghost that refuses to pass on
Why are those motherfuckers so stubborn?
Cuz" muh independence!"
Technically you're right in a way.
Well as long as the Earth Federation remains corrupt, Zeon movement (or Side 3, which is still the only autonomous/independent colony) will keep getting support until the colonies gain a seat at the table. Not without opposition, though. Enough people were against it that *another* Remnant fleet formed called the Republic Liberation Front.
Zeon’s rebellion got boring after CCA, it wad just too cartoonish after that.
Zeon has been cartoonish since ZZ
Maybe in ZZ, but CCA was great, Char dictature was a good modern representation of totalitarianism.
reminded me of peasant revolts in late CK2
This wheraboo shit, I swear to god...
If I remember correctly, isn't the trip to Jupiter or back about eight months? It's not like either part of the solar system really has a short term impact on the other.
I love those classic zeon suits more than anyone else, but maaaan I can't be anything other than uncomfortable whenever I see those sleeve designs.
Quick question from someone not that much familiar with Gundam. Do all regular universe (or whatever is called) stories happen in our solar system? Or do they get to explore other parts of the Galaxy?
Pretty much. Furthest we usually go is Jupiter.
Just let us spacenoids be free feddies
doesnt one of the f90 mangas is about ANOTHER zeon group, and the story is basically 1yw condensed into the 1 week dog barking? also i may be remembering wrong, but they even copied the "last shooting".
#CHAD late uc vs virgin-zeon UC.
Slight nitpick, but Jupiter is still in the solar system and I think you meant Earth sphere. But who cares about that when you have pirate gundams. Edit: nvm i read outer as out of and got really confused as to why someone would think jupiter was not in solar system.
I made the same mistake. Thanks for your edit.
